Rachel is 💯 a liberal! And I love her for it. She represents my group of people, progressive socially, but fiscally conservative. Dave is too secretly 😂
Rachel is so sweet, she tells Mr. Ramsey "you don't have to be so dramatic" but he's sooooooooo right, you can destroy your kids life by handing them lump sums of money prematurely. I've seen it and I was with someone who's life was literally destroyed 20 years ago with a lump sum of money his dad left before passing away. At 18 my ex received the money and he consumed all the drugs you can think of, bought a Lexus and crashed it, HE WAS NUTS, he did nothing productive with the money, he started drug addiction, he "invested" his money trying to bring drug from Mexico and he went to jail. His life was never the same after all that. There's a time for everything and it's not about being a legal adult it's about being mature and build the skill on how to handle money properly and that takes time and training.
Most of gen Z has been sheltered from "stress". Filing taxes is stressful for everyone. Stress is part of being a responsible adult. As an adult, you learn to deal with it.
A zero turn is probably $5000 for one that isn't going to break down in the first year. They want $200 to cut an acre and a half every time here. It doesn't take long to eat up $2,000.
I've worked for Costco for over five years. As a supervisor, the caller's husband would be making around $30 per hour and time and a half on Sundays. Because he's a 17 yr employee he was also getting bonuses twice a year. Matches and a discretionary contribution to his 401k. In addition to that Costco would insure each of his three children and wife at a little less than $50 EA for medical dental and vision. Most of the time when an employee returns they are given their previous income and benefits status. They do lose seniority but that's not as important for his situation. I'm thinking she is way off saying that his current job is comparable.
Hi, we happened to listen to this episode and realized it was our daughter who called (Kayla). You are right. His Costco job was a very good situation for him and his family. He cashed in his 401k and moved his family 2000 miles away to TX. Now the money is gone and he has put them in this predicament due to some of his very unwise decisions. His wife and kids (our daughter and grandkids) are suffering because of it.
@@theclothingcottage Thanks, yes they have some very tough decisions to make and it will be hard. We are praying for them. he is desperately trying to get his COSTCO job back. 1:22:37 Rachel giving examples of the "suck it up" mentality and the "tell me how you feel" mentality made me think of something I witnessed the other day at my son's Special Olympics soccer practice. There was a family of a Special Olympian there...mom, dad and younger siblings. It was almost time to go, and one of the sibs (looked about ten years old) started whining at his dad because he couldn't go get ice cream on the way home. This kid was literally in tears. The mom gently reminded him he "needed to be respectful to adults." All the whole, I wanted to tell him "this was the no whining zone." That, or asked him if he "wanted some cheese with that whine." I kept my mouth shut and went with my go to thought that the boy must be on the spectrum because of his out of character behavior for a ten year old. Or maybe it's now considered normal for a ten year old boy to have a mini meltdown over no ice cream.🤷🏼♀️
@@pamsmith1665 if he has been my son...well, if he has my son, he wouldn't have been whining and crying about not getting ice cream. BUT, when he was really young and had been around a couple of whiny sisters for a weekend (we were visiting friends), he tried whining when we got home. I shut it down right away.😂
The nurse who paid off her loans in a year. My husband is a med tech who works with nurses wbo make more than double, killing themselves to pay $700 a month in car payments gas and insurance... meanwhile we have older reliable cars that we paid cash for and sometimes do maintenance for ourselves. Some of the nurses have asked my husband for car advice (one wanted to buy a $65k 3rd car all the while being anxious about finances). I love the instacart idea.
You can start a UTMA that will transfer to the child by age 21. Any growth is taxed at their earning level not yours. Can’t do a retirement account unless they have earned income.
It would be better to not put any of the money in the child's name in case of "misbehavior." Simply grow your wealth and you'll be able to "gift" money to the young adult. Talk to your tax advisor about that.
The Gen Zers who are so stressed about taxes that they have to see a therapist are going to be even more stressed when they add the therapists' bills to their student loans. Having a therapist seems to be on the "necessary" list of expenses for lots of people now. Talking to the mirror is just about as effective and a lot cheaper. There's something about saying what you are thinking OUT LOUD that clarifies your thoughts more than just silently thinking about it in your brain.
So glad I leaned from other financial minds that Dave's advice is only good for a small group of people. I would have had much less net worth if I had followed him the last 15-20 years.
The more you make your kids work for things, the more they will appreciate it. We don't need to be giving anything to our kids when we die. It might be better to give it to charity. If we give too much, it may make them soft. Let kids struggle and figure it out, it will behoove them greatly. My parents are worth more than 10 million dollars, and I haven't gotten or don't even want a dime. I can do it on my own. I don't need someone to wipe my financial butt.
I think Rachel is liberal but she can’t say too much because Dave is a dictator and to publicly disagree with him could possible be her forfeiting her inheritance.

Lara with the $10,000 IRS debt - husband is a pastor - taxes were figured incorrectly. Taxes for people in ministry are done COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY than for non-ministerial people. You and your husband should be seeing a tax pro who specializes in taxes for ministers as you need to schedule your pay so that the maximum is going to housing rather than to non-housing. Housing is tax-free for ordained ministers and that bucket includes things you might not think of like pest control, etc. However, in some instances to meet IRS regulations the church budget has to divide the salary into two separate categories (housing and non-housing) and those categories have to be approved and voted on by the church. So, it's very important to not only take advantage of the opportunities to minimize taxes, but to do it with all of the boxes checked on how to do it so the IRS does not flag you. Housing "costs" are not necessarily what you are actually spending, but what the going rate is in your area for those costs. Ministry, for the most part, is a low-paying job unless the church is very large and generous, so it's important to maximize the other benefits that come with being a minister. You can file revised returns for several back years if a tax pro finds you have been over charged. You may be paying due to HOW your return was filled in. Dave was giving away free stuff today and I wish he had volunteered to have you checked out by one of his tax pros experienced in helping ministers.
people in ministry should pay same as everyone else , fucking gross. If you believe in Santa should you get to evade taxes ? No, so what's the difference ?
Not in Florida they don’t depreciate lol, they are more than a regular home some more than that, some have doubled and tripled, so Dave Ramsey I think you might be wrong about this one lol
How about putting them through college then give them a car to get to work and the down payment on a house then leave them nothing in the will but set up a trust so their children and grand children will have college or technical school paid off. I am child free by choice but this is what I've done for my siblings children.
I think Rachel might be unaware of just how costly it is to pay someone to cut the grass. Our guy is very good, but cutting and edging 1/3 acre is $125 every two weeks ($250 a month) and we have the lawn cut between March and December.
Regarding the flipping houses segment when Rachel talked about her husband doing it. I heard him say on one of her instagram post that he has a partner and it’s 50/50. I thought that was a Ramsey No/No. Dave always says the only ship that won’t sail is a partnership.
The heroin rant 😂 it’s true Dave. I know someone who’s dad left the three kids equal amounts ($50k plus) and the son had and still has drug and alcohol problems and believe he’s out of money!!! Wake up parents!
She thinks Dave is being dramatic by saying the kid could get into drugs but it can and it does happen. Rachel needs to realize that giving kids money without working for it or proving good character can be extremely dangerous.
Dave im sorry but you make it too easy to have success on construction. Having a construction company is one of the hardest things you can do in life, the market is crazy, the variables involved are crazy, the risk of the activity is crazy, nothing is clear. Working on rich people's houses is easier because you mark up everything by 100% and then you have the margins to show up, to be on budget and to work with pride, but that is not the reality of 99% of construction companies. We have slim margins, that makes us have to take on multiple jobs to make a bit more money, we exaust ourselves on hard work, the variables are way too unpredictable, jobs get delayed because we are dependent on a lot exterior subcontracts that don't show up on time, weather gets in the way and we're screwed etc etc.. Construction is the wild west, it's absolute caos and it shouldn't be.
In 2024,don't set new year financial goals without consulting a financial adviser.there expertise ensure a solid plan for success.Building wealth involves developing good habits like regular putting money away in intervals for solid investments.

I want to vote for somebody that will Implement 15% tax across the board regardless of income. I'm tired to pay 30% while the super rich pay almost zero
The same people you vote for writes the law that gives them breaks. And big corps wealthy do pay taxes. Instead, let's vote for those that don't give our money away to illegals, foreign countries, and nonsense.
I wish they’d simplify taxes too but it won’t happen.. If you are just talking fed taxes, 15% would be an increase for most Americans. Our family income is $200k/yr and our effective fed tax rate is usually 12-13%. And the biggest hurdle, too many lobbyists to prevent real change from happening. Tax prep is big big business…~$35B annually.
Glad Katie got out of debt, but the numbers don’t add up, if she made $113,000, her take home pay wouldn’t be more than 85,000, leaving basically nothing to pay for living expenses, insurances and for charitable contributions. Drives me nuts that Dave doesn’t question the numbers. Dean
Haven't gotten there yet, but it can include items like cars on loan which are sold, which can mean a reduction of a $50k loan to a $5k loan which is then paid off for example.
If you listen to her explain… she did lots of side hustles, took extra shifts to pay off the debt, etc. She told him her annual wage went from 20k-something t0 over 100k as a nurse. She didn’t say that included all the extra work she did to pay off her debt. It makes complete sense.
Follow the baby steps. If debt free (and not saving for a house), do steps 4/5/6 simultaneously: save 15% towards retirement, save for kids education, put all other funds towards your mortgage. Personally, I’m not a fan of RH.
That was awesome. Along with Dave’s answer about the CBBC poll on taxes. Vote!!!! That is the solid truth and sweet Rachel laughed it off (probably afraid it would get too political) but seriously. Kids hear the rhetoric that ‘we should pay for all x and we should give everyone y’ and now they are growing to adults and realizing that all those government goodies have to be paid by someone. That’s the taxpayers! I’m not against having a safety net, but congress is out of control and doesn’t keep a budget. Young people need to know that who they vote for matters! Vote for people who will get the budget in control! Dave was completely right.
I just looked this up. 10 acres is like 8 football fields, or 435,600 square feet. So, he plans to mow and maintain 5 acres of that? So, 4 football fields? Wow. That's a freekin yard. I whine about my yard and it's like tiny. I'd say 40 feet by 20 feet. Lol

The answer is if they can afford what they asking about. The income is important the common answer is act your wage.
How much you take home every month?
"One day at band camp..."
Hahaha, I thought the same thing, like you weren't prepared for that question or don't know! lol
Cuz they don’t wanna admit they make enough lol or don’t dispose income with their spouses I would assume. But then again assuming doesn’t help anything lol
You read my mind 😂
What a great Dad Dave is!
This one was helpful for me! Thanks
Rachel is 💯 a liberal! And I love her for it. She represents my group of people, progressive socially, but fiscally conservative. Dave is too secretly 😂
Gotta take care of the widows and orphans, amen 🙏!! Called to. God bless y’all for always doing so ❤
I’m a liberal but I like you guys. No hard feelings
Same here lol.
Vote America 1st. Save America from social communists. : )
🤣😂
Classical, Modern, or Neoliberal?
That just means you vote wrong, Dave still loves you 😂
The call from Tara… 😂😂😂😂 I’m dead. 💀 “Oh use cash?? Okay” hahahaha
I love it when I see the most beautiful sports car I've ever seen or a experience BMW and watch them pull up into a old trailer where they live.
The Debt Free screams make me so emotional every time 🎉🎉🎉
Brilliant advise.
Agree! Saw something very similar. Not to mention there needs to be time for grieving without that windfall being doled out.
He’s not being dramatic, he’s right, don’t give kids control of your assets especially your home.
Even if the kids are responsible, you’ve also got to consider who they might marry.
It's total weakness if you need a therapist because of your taxes!!!! It's a blessing to pay taxes it means you have money 💰 🤑 💸
I love how Rachel is a balance view on the show
@Rachel - Come to Seattle! (Renton, WA to be exact :))
He's not being dramatic- it's very true. Happens all the time
Most of gen Z has been sheltered from "stress". Filing taxes is stressful for everyone. Stress is part of being a responsible adult. As an adult, you learn to deal with it.
I feel like we all need Rachel children’s book… mostly the people that call the show with crazy scenarios about debts 😮💨😮💨😓😓😓
@@jammer777 Oh my, I'm sorry. Hopefully they will start moving in a better direction after she called in for help.
@@theclothingcottage Thanks, yes they have some very tough decisions to make and it will be hard. We are praying for them. he is desperately trying to get his COSTCO job back. The thing that is so difficult is he put our daughter and our grandkids in this position. all we can do is pray for them and give advice when asked.
I’m 34 and i threw a tantrum about ice cream like 3 days ago
I would not have gently reminded him of anything.
@@Treehandler 😂😂
@@pamsmith1665 if he has been my son...well, if he has my son, he wouldn't have been whining and crying about not getting ice cream. BUT, when he was really young and had been around a couple of whiny sisters for a weekend (we were visiting friends), he tried whining when we got home. I shut it down right away.😂
Go you!@@bettedavis9261
In my Dave voice…….. Katie, YOU’RE A ROCKSTAR 🎉🎉🎉
i love the father daughter dynamic between dave and rachel lol
I want to know how you do a monthly budget when you only get income once a month?
In what way? That’s probably the easiest situation. You have but one input to budget against for the month.
Hold aside money for weekly grocery and gas trips (average them) so you don’t have more month than money
Does that plan work for getting money to nieces and nephews? or just kids??
You might want to check with a tax specialist. You can "gift" family members and others every year up to a certain amount.
"You won't hear any of that on TikTok" but they post on TikTok...
How could I start a retirement or investment account for kids that would grow interest over their lifetime instead of college/education accouts?
I agree with you on saying it out loud. There are some thoughts I’ve said out loud to myself and it sounded so ridiculous that it cured itself 😂
He's not being dramatic it happened to me I had to say no on money. A young child should not have money. So dangerous
Dave, everyone knows its Eclipse Spearmint.
So glad I leaned from other financial minds that Dave's advice is only good for a small group of people. I would have had much less net worth if I had followed him the last 15-20 years.
So excellent!
Buy subject to, they call the loan due and it ain't your credit
I bought a zd 1211 in 2018 for 16600 today they cost 21800
The more you make your kids work for things, the more they will appreciate it. We don't need to be giving anything to our kids when we die. It might be better to give it to charity. If we give too much, it may make them soft. Let kids struggle and figure it out, it will behoove them greatly. My parents are worth more than 10 million dollars, and I haven't gotten or don't even want a dime. I can do it on my own. I don't need someone to wipe my financial butt.
What are Dave’s actual political views? I’m interested
As far as a one-word General answer, Republican
@@motoryzen do you think Rachel is too?
I think Rachel is liberal but she can’t say too much because Dave is a dictator and to publicly disagree with him could possible be her forfeiting her inheritance.
Loved Katie from Dallas, TX!
I love how Rachel tries so hard to avoid being political. 🤣
She's smart. No point alienating half the audience.
@@ThePolypamYeah, except we all know she’s a republican, which is fine. Belonging to a different political party, shouldn’t make you feel alienated. It’s good to listen to people who believe differently than you do. Im so tired of everyone living in an echo chamber these days. I’m nowhere close to being a republican and I follow many republicans. I’ve never felt “alienated” from it.
@@williamehlers5158 Do we? We know her father is, which is not the same. Not sure what that has to do with your chagrin about the echo chamber effect; she's precisely trying not to get pigeonholed into that very thing.
Even if she has family members who vote wrong 😂
@@ThePolypam Yes I do know, because like Dave said, she wouldn’t work there if she was liberal. Also, I have followed her for over a decade. I’ve seen books she’s recommended on her page that are clearly conservative. And I’ve also read her books, which also imply her political party. No, she doesn’t outright say it, but there such thing as context.
@43:30 ... I was like ... kinda wrong person to ask about flipping houses
🤣🤣🤣
Actually the Right person
Obviously she’s never listened to the show 😂
Lara with the $10,000 IRS debt - husband is a pastor - taxes were figured incorrectly.
Thanks, once again, for sharing your expertise. I gain so much knowledge from you.❤
Not in Florida they don’t depreciate lol, they are more than a regular home some more than that, some have doubled and tripled, so Dave Ramsey I think you might be wrong about this one lol
How about putting them through college then give them a car to get to work and the down payment on a house then leave them nothing in the will but set up a trust so their children and grand children will have college or technical school paid off.
I am child free by choice but this is what I've done for my siblings children.
2:05:00 watched half way through
I think Rachel might be unaware of just how costly it is to pay someone to cut the grass. Our guy is very good, but cutting and edging 1/3 acre is $125 every two weeks ($250 a month) and we have the lawn cut between March and December.
My guy is 95 every 2 weeks for 2/3rds an acre
Where I am, it's normal for someone who pays to get their lawn cut in the city and lawn care is 900 a month
Regarding the flipping houses segment when Rachel talked about her husband doing it. I heard him say on one of her instagram post that he has a partner and it’s 50/50. I thought that was a Ramsey No/No. Dave always says the only ship that won’t sail is a partnership.
10 acres of grass, let a farmer make hay off of it for free for a year or two
The heroin rant 😂 it’s true Dave. I know someone who’s dad left the three kids equal amounts ($50k plus) and the son had and still has drug and alcohol problems and believe he’s out of money!!! Wake up parents!
My manufacturer home has increased in value since I purchased it 4 year ago
🎉yay katie!

@@republicunited2183both parties have given themselves substantial raises.
Coulda had 10-20k in the bank prior she was working before school
If you listen to her explain… she did lots of side hustles, took extra shifts to pay off the debt, etc. She told him her annual wage went from 20k-something t0 over 100k as a nurse. She didn’t say that included all the extra work she did to pay off her debt. It makes complete sense.
I assume the side hustles were included in the $113,000, side hustles are assumed to be part of “what did you make”.
She was embarrassed about him telling the world about the money she was handed
Aye.. What about GEN X.. We Ruling the WORLD

Follow the baby steps. If debt free (and not saving for a house), do steps 4/5/6 simultaneously: save 15% towards retirement, save for kids education, put all other funds towards your mortgage.
Personally, I’m not a fan of RH.
Ha ha ha. The liberal part. Lol
I like it without a cohost
I just looked this up. 10 acres is like 8 football fields, or 435,600 square feet. So, he plans to mow and maintain 5 acres of that? So, 4 football fields?
Wow. That's a freekin yard. I whine about my yard and it's like tiny. I'd say 40 feet by 20 feet. Lol
I love it Dave. No crazy libs.
2:01:00 she should be investing 20% not 15% she's already older, I agree with Dave on everything except the 15% part. Maybe when he was younger
