We often get confused that we should go in search of our purpose in life. I offer that the journey isn't about finding... it's about realizing what you can let go to reveal what has always been there underneath. You have everything you need deep inside. Just keep learning to let go of all the things that are covering up the magic! 🤘🕓

I would also like to add a quote by Picasso that Ive found very helpful in my creative endeavors and it translates quite well to hiking. "Inspiration exists...but it has to find you working". I'll keep on creating, you keep hiking. It will come. It always does as long as your not on the couch like I am now. I know you're not so I have to get up and finish building my trail head camper shell. Cheers. great seeing you out on trail again. Thank you for the effort.

Great book, “the Four Agreements”! I’ve listened to it a few times and it helped get me through some significant trials. As for life and finding a purpose, may I say this, the purpose of life is to LIVE! And you’re doing it! I’ve been enjoying watching videos of your odyssey. Keep it up!

The Four Agreements are wonderful and deceptively simple. I’m currently doing a virtual apprenticeship with don Miguel and his sons. It’s eye opening! Keep reading, they have lots of great books. Each time you read the work you will learn something new. It’s the journey not the destination... 🙏 ❤️

The trail has a way of brining out all kinds of emotions. In one of your post AT videos you talked about droughting yourself and your ability to finish the trail, but in the end you made it to katahdin. I am confident you will find your life to be the same. Don't allow anything or anyone to cause you to see yourself as less than the strong, beautiful and adventurous young woman you are.

"What you flush back east, you drink in the west" - NOLS instructor 1993. In New Mexico I had to get water from a cow pond with floating cow turds. You filtered through a bandanna into your Nalgene, and popped an iodine tablet in it. Yum. This was the days before Sawyer filters, and even the early PURs were expensive and rare then.
Uggh - I probably sound like the old guy hiker in your "types of hikers" videos.

Dear Julia, I really enjoyed your videos. I love to hear your honesty and narrative while you are hiking. I love your videos on the Appalachian trail. Thank you for sharing. I saw your video tonight and thought I should comment on what you have said in your video. I feel like Life is always confusing. Life has no logic. We give it logic to illogical existence and give it purpose where there isn’t a true one. I am sorry about how you feel about your apartment, boyfriend, child, money, etc… But I think having those things would still not erase that “void.” It would just be some other “void” that you would feel if you had accomplished/obtained aforementioned things. No one knows what they could/would have in their lives. But you have something very few people have. You have the physical strength to hike a long trail and enjoy your accomplishment of hiking it. I think that is truly priceless. You also have memories and have seem some amazing landscapes that few people let alone humans have seem or experienced. I know it is hard to enjoy the “Now.” I also struggle with this enjoyment as well. But I think that is something we need to learn how to do and cherish because once it is gone that part of our life we can never go back to. One day you may marry, have children, have a mortgage, have a van, have a job, etc… That life demands a certain expectation and responsibility where you cannot take 6 month off for a hike. To quote a famous wizard “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” So, I say enjoy your knees, back, feet… and hike then rest for a while. -George

I was just re-watching a couple of your AT videos. I ended with your ascent video, clip #27. You had some rough days getting to that point, days where you questioned yourself. In the end, you did it.
You'll pull through any rough times ahead of you right now and you'll have the same success on this trail. I am sure of that.
Focus on yourself and the tasks you face each day. The other stuff will fall into place. Whatever happens, you'll still have achieved more success than if you had stayed home on the couch eating peanut butter cups. Everything happens for a reason. You may not know the reason for a long time. You may never know the reason, but it's there.
Thanks for bringing us along on your journey.

I watched this video a few days ago, and I’ve been thinking about it since then. I saw something on Twitter a few months ago that resonated with me, so I saved it so I could refer back to it. This person said, “Unpopular opinion: I don’t think your life has to have a purpose, or you a grand ambition; I think it’s okay to just wander through life finding interesting things until you die.” I thought it was kind of liberating to think about that, so I am sharing it with you in hopes that it helps. There was more interesting discussion in the comments, so let me know if you want the name of that person’s account so you can pull on that thread. Be safe.

When I was in military people shit in the sinks in the Latrine. In the back of vehicles and once on the First Sergeant's desk.

A friend once told me that most of the people he knew who listened to music all the time apparently did so to avoid listening to what was going on in their heads. Old curmudgeon . . . but he was right, about me anyway -- so I have since then tried to accept what I found out about this "environment" and put it to good use. Of course, much of what is there is untrue or worthless, and the work of evaluating all this raw material is at times tedious and seemingly pointless. But didn't you say you've got nowhere else to be?
After a while, as a new understanding of myself emerges and my confidence strengthens, the outer world too becomes more comprehensible. It's almost funny that now it seems I am built to succeed in this world, even in spite of myself, sometimes.
Is there a chance a place with a stock tank full of algae and honeybees will become known to future hikers as "Sweetwater"?

I mostly listen to audio books in the afternoon. The morning is reserved for processing thoughts.
