    Big thanks to Casekoo for sponsoring this video.
    We tested the iPhone 14 Pro Max's Always on Display to see how much it drains the battery and how it compares to the Galaxy S22 Ultra's AOD.
    TEST NOTES:
    - All phones were factory reset before testing with no apps or iCloud sign-in.
    - Airplane mode enabled on all phones.
    - We used the larger iPhone 14 Pro Max for all tests. Battery drain will likely be higher on the iPhone 14 Pro.
    - Screens calibrated to 200 nits on all phones with auto-brightness turned off. However, AOD adjusts its own brightness even when turning off auto-brightness.
    - Lab lighting calibrated to either 150 or 1000 LUX.
    - We had our robots wake the screens every hour on each phone to prevent the AOD from turning itself off due to inactivity.

    Can the date and time burn in since it is an OLED display? Is that the reason why on the other phone, the date and time moves around the screen? Because I don’t want to leave the AOD if it does burn in the screen after a while.

    • @Mannwhich

    Hi, I just want to mention when the phones are charged at 100% they behave differently from each others. Some manufactures wants to keep the 100 number longer than usual, there is no a such phone that use 0 percent idling 24h. The real test will be if the testing starts from 80%.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England ปีที่แล้ว +23

      The real reason and this has been proved and is not a conspiracy, as you imply, is that an iPhone battery is usually 5-8% higher than the stated capacity to avoid Apple being sued by the usual lawyers looking to make a buck out of Apple. Whereas Samsung phones I have owned rarely have the 5000mAh capacity they claim, and also, Samsung does not charge to full; they keep a reserve to save degradation.

    • @hatsonchickens
      @hatsonchickens ปีที่แล้ว +6

      A phone can’t lie about how long it lasts. That’s like saying a car can last longer on one tank because when you fill up it stays at 400 miles for a bit longer than other cars.

    • @ThinkCleverAndSmart
      @ThinkCleverAndSmart ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@hatsonchickens Funny you say that, because that's very true for a lot of cars. Thing is, this is just an estimate, and it's more difficult to estimate a correct value until you got some usage. Especially for cars, since the estimated range might be calculated based on your driving.

    • @henryc4799
      @henryc4799 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very wrong, starting the test at 80% would make it worse, like you said some companies make 100% last longer. if you were to start teh test when batteries aren't fully charged its hard to determine how much the phone is actually charged (Example, 0-50% could really be 0-30% and 30-70 could be 50-100%)

    • @kirakira9906

    Hi, tell me if I buy a 15W Samsung adapter and I will charge my iPhone 14pro so as not to harm the battery with fast charging, will my battery last longer?

      No, but 5w trickle charge over night, will make a slight difference over 2-3 years

    That does make me curious, is Apple not concerned about burn in? I haven't seen many iPhones with burn in compared to Samsung phones, does Apple use panels that are less susceptible to it? Higher quality? I do also wonder if Apple can improve the efficiency in future generations of the AOD, maybe using the different fonts available for the time could impact battery life as well?

      Well Apple buys their Oled displays from Samsung, so who knows. They may even have the same problems as their rivals.

    the one with AOD off showing 100% after 24h? start using from that point, see if the battery draining rate is much higher than others.

    0,6 per hour, if you unplugg at 07.00 and go till bed time att 11.00 .. that is 16 hours, with AOD in use you will loose about 10% over a day like that just on AOD, so it could be a difference between having 15 % at the end of a heavy day, or 5%.

    PSA best of both worlds is AOD Text Only, but flipping over the phone face down when you don't need the clock - it turns off AOD while face down.
