Redwing should offer a total blackout boot as an option, maybe they do. The finished product reminded me of Corcoran jump boots.
They did offer the 9218 through Brooks Brother, but it is discontinued. Cheers!
@@U2Blades I found a pair of 9218s on Ebay in my size but the auction ended 3 weeks ago.
They offer a blackout option if you mail to them and pay extra
They look more like Garrison boots. I've never had red wings but do have Garrison.. as much as I love them they're not the most comfortable.. are Redwing comfortable? Please advise as I've never owned a pair. Thx
How much does it cost to get a black our done of my IR?
That was cool. For me leaving the brown accent on the midsole right before you stained it black would have been perfect.
The teaching part is fascinating. As an old guy, I love to know how things are done right, no matter the industry. I wear boots, so YES, I like learning what RIGHT looks like. Your videos have really enlightened me a great deal. Nothing wrong with lifelong learning, even if it is not needed for your particular occupation. Turning work boots into dress boots turned out beautifully.
While there are a couple of very good cobblers on TH-cam...I dare say, of them all...Tony is likely the very best. I love his work. (And...his shop, is by far, the cleanest and tidiest, of all on TH-cam. In my opinion, that is a tell-tale sign, of a cobbler who goes the extra mile to do everything the right way).
I was literally looking at these boots last night, trying to figure out how I could black them out, so I could wear them at work. I may need to see if these guys can do this again for me.
I'm no apprentice cobbler, but I really appreciate learning how things should be done. Thanks.
I think you guys have customized more Iron Rangers than all the cobblers on TH-cam. Nicely done
Doesn't get more classic than a pair of sleek black boots.
great work! I love when you're just showing us the ropes. I like watching stuff being broken down and rebuilt, especially old stuff that can be brought back to life.
You do great work. Really appreciate you explaining each step and the helpful tips. Something I do not see in most other cobler videos.
Great work Tony, these turned out amazing! Really enjoyed the detailed instruction, it’s cool to watch it be remade but to understand why things are done a certain way is even better.
You guys are the go to place for the iron ranger. Amazing recraft again !
That there is one fine looking pair of boots! Outstanding craftsmanship Mr. Tony!
Great looking finished product. Hats off to the craftsman and craftsmanship.
Two "thumbs up" from this ole Kentucky boy. 👍
Very nice! I can tell you they're going to get a lot shinier when that pilot get's a hold of them.
A good spit shine and those toes will be glass
A lot of great info for folks who want to learn about the process here! Thank you
Beautiful commentary, beautiful camera work, beautiful craft.
Them Kicks are BAD ASSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! only a Dream to have a pair of Iron Blacked OUT Rangers Great Job Thanks for Sharing this Amazing Video ☝👍👍👍
Those are amazing! Great work!
Another home run. Gorgeous work and awesome video, Tony and Team!
A hell of a great job!! Great craftsmanship, and I really like the way you explain your job. Also the little details, how you were trained by your brother long time ago. Now you explain via these videos to some professionals out there, and also entertain to customers like me. Thank you very much from Germany…Harald
This is incredible. As always, fantastic work!
You’re such a great teacher! This video was fantastic and the boots came out great!
What a great teacher. Very enjoyable.
Excellent job as usual and making it look easy!!
Those look hard as hell. Excellent work!
"Lead Wing Iron Ranger" would be hilarious, but also the "Airborne Ranger" named for the Army Ranger airborne units. Red Wing likes naming boots after certain towns or trades, so I think Airborne Ranger is a pretty cool name.
Hey Wyatt! It was nice meeting you at the stichdown Bootcampt last week! I could not believe it. Thank you for your time and all the advice. I am honored and grateful🤝
I enjoyed meeting you too!
@@WyattDadCobblerCompanythank you!
Worth the wait, great lessons too as always. You guys never disappoint.
Really fantastic work!
Outstanding! Great job.
Wow, those came out way better than the original ones. Job well done sir!
Amazing! Great work!
Nice .. all black they look like Garrison boots. Which is on of my favorite boots.
Love it enjoyed seeing the video. For sure that pilot guy will or enjoys that all black pilot boot 🙌🏽
Today I sent the Wyatt & Dad Cobbler Company a pair of shoes to get a custom recraft with these soles. I am excited to see them make my choices and their ideas come to fruition. I am looking forward to speaking with a Cobbler once you receive my shoes. I hope you keep making these videos!
Great to see you! Love the transformation. Saw you and Cobbler Tobias on Bedo’s Leatherworks Boot Camp video. My wife and I were watching Steve’s video and I shouted, that’s Tony Wyatt, my cobbler!
That’s awesome! Thanks!
@@WyattDadCobblerCompany You’re a celebrity! Can’t say enough about the re-crafts you’ve done for me. Your craftsmanship is amazing.
Classic jump daddy. Well done!!!
They look AMAZING! I would like to see a sneaker turned into a dress shoe or work boot.
Great Job Tony !! I have a collection that is growing and will let you know if I need some work done
Amazing work
Wow they look awesome
Beautiful look.
Great job, thanks for share
I actually feel like an apprentice watching this video 😂 awesome work as always ❤
Great work.
Just found your channel. Loving it. Ty sir and son. 😎
Those look sweet!!
Just love this version of the Iron ranger
Oh man these look sick.
I wish redwing made a boot like this with a couple more inchers over the angle I bet they would feel like top quality military boots
Reminds me of my old uk army boots!!
Well done and maybe call them the Iron Biker!
boot look great , thanks
Beautiful
Well done ❤
Great video!! Maybe call it the Iron Aviator?
Mr. Tony you are definitely a master craftsman. You do some awesome work and the narration Yuki is outstanding. I am a newbie at this, but I love watching shoe repair. I have questions to ask what type of thread do you use to sew the welt on and what type and size of thread do you use to sew the sole on
Thanks! We use beeswax coated thread for sewing on the welts, and 1mm braided thread for stitching the soles on. If you are a cobbler and want detailed links on the threads, email me at wyattndad@gmail.com

Beautiful Work Dad 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🇧🇷😎
Great video
Great video!
Curious if that Pro Dye does a good job of keeping the eyelets black or would it start to wear off after a bit?
Amazing skills, Santa 🎅 workshop
Fantastic job, what a great looking boot, wonder what it would look like with a 360 welt.
We did a 360 welt conversion in another video. Some people like it and others say it’s too much. We think the larger heel rand is a better balanced look for the boot. But, we offer either choice to the customer.
Love the work as usual, but I would have like to have seen how you blacked out the hardware as well.
There are black eyelets and speed hooks available to be installed. That is the best way.
Bravo!
That was a great video, I hope one day I can afford a pair of work boots that are had made and fit better than the off the shelf 100 dollar boots fit, Keep up the great content, its fun to watch.
Great recraft! Maybe call it the Iron Winger?
Great work as always.! Why didn't show us more pictures of those beautiful boots finished? 👍👍👍
I was wondering the same thing. I will ask editing what happened
Excellent. Would it be OK to follow up maintenance with a leather conditioner like Saphir, then a a coat or two of wax or polish, then spit shine ? In otherwords, I would want to prevent flaking of additional products !
Yes, the main place to be careful with a cleaner like Saphir is around the white stitching that was dyed. You could strip some of the color out and make the thread look grey instead of black. Spit shining the toes and heel counters is definitely possible now.
So sick
Great video. I'm curious why there still seems to be a substancial void after you glued in the cork. Does the entire cavity not need to be filled?
The void only appears to be there. When forcing the sides up during the removal of the original cork, it makes them appear taller. The important part of the void to fill is the height of the sidewall of the gimming. Our cork is exactly that thick. I talked about hammering that over after welting. But it doesn’t completely lay over until the soles are hammered on and the boot flexed during walking. If you put too much cork in the center of the boot, it will feel like a lump is under the ball of the foot and make the metatarsal heads sore.
Thank you for the explanation, it makes a lot of sense.
cool they look like military jump
boots
I need a pair of these (same career field)!
How about Sky Rangers! Great job Tony.
I like it!
I absolutely love how these turned out. Can you disclose how much it costs to have this treatment done to a new pair of Iron Rangers?
The sole package and dye job was $370. If you want to change the eyelets and speed hooks to black, that runs $140 more.
Love it
Great job! But tell me, what did you end up doing with the lace holes and hooks to make them black? Just painted?..
We can switch the to baked enamel ones, but in this case, we just sprayed them
The Iron Aviators!
Bravo 👏 👏👏
Really beutiful!
Tony, great look for a boot, I may want to try that. BTW who makes that apron?
That apron is from JR leather by Kilger. Jim McFarland can get you one
You did a great job. Quick question, did you replace the eyelets and speedhooks?
That’s the best way to do it. The black is baked into the metal and holds up better. On this job, the customer decided not to go that route. I used a leather spray dye to cote them. It will work for a while but eventually rub off. The customer was made aware of this
@@WyattDadCobblerCompany oh ok, I was just curious. I own the charcoal rough and tough iron ranger and they use black nickel speed hooks and eyelets on the pair I have.
Thanks for the wisdom Tony. Gotta Q, did you stitch the new welt onto the gemming?
Blacked out "Pilot Ranger" = NICEness!
Thanks. Yes, the gimming is stitched through also
I would like to see yall do a Grant Stone boot like the Ottawa’s or the Diesel’s. I have a few pairs of GS’s and I just would like to see how they would look during a resole. I think you are wearing in a pair of Diesel’s in Storm Kudu. I would like to see how you guys would resole them with a doctor soles 1/2 sole or any half sole for that matter. Thank you.
Correct. I am wearing a pair so I can give a full review of them during the recraft video. I haven’t decided on what sole I will go with for these though.
could tell the parts of boot shoe are called I have some experience of shoe repair about 45 years ago I want to go back to it I am 65 now I have retired from my tire is no where to go to school for this trade I like your videos to get kownage about shoe repair thanks for your videos
Nice
Almost identical to my military parade/ankle boots
The boots look great. Did you change out the hardware to black ones or is it TV magic??
We can do that, but on this pair, we only sprayed them with black spray dye. It won’t last forever, but that was the customers choice.
How did you get the black eyelets and hooks black to stay on metal.
In the video, I used a spray dye because the customer wasn’t sure if he wanted black or not. It easily cleans off if he didn’t want it. The best thing is to remove them and install black eyelets and speed hooks with a baked on enamel
Would it have been a good idea to topcoat with resolene?
It’s not necessary in this case.
Just bought a pair of these and I like how they look but is it possible to just dye the brown part black instead of fully blackening it out?
Yes. We have done that too. There is a risk that the stitching can eventually turn grey and then white in enough wet conditions. Besides getting black stitching for the soles, this boot got other modifications as well.
@@WyattDadCobblerCompany thank you so much for the reply, you’re amazing 🖤
Why no nails in the heel cap? Is just glue enough, or will that fall off later?
Good question. The heel bases are nailed, but the rubber portion is not necessary to nail. The cement’s used today will hold it plenty strong enough.
Did you change out the eyelets for black or paint the original?
The customer opted to just have the existing ones sprayed instead of changing them out.
What kind of conditioner or cream did you use to
Give them that gorgeous sheen??
I used Angelus paste polish.
@@WyattDadCobblerCompany thank you!
Beautiful!!!
I've alway thought the iron ranger looked like a Corcoran jump boot.
How about a recraft involving the top of the boot, instead of the bottom? Example - a pair of Cocoran Jump Boots. Cut them to 6", roll or stitch the edge, sew a pull loop and create a Munson Ranger lookalike!
We may start doing some videos of that type stuff in the future. Our craftsman that does that work is camera shy
How much was that job? And did you put in black eyelets? I would want that done to a pair of black smith boots.
The job was $290 for the soles and $20 for the dye shine. It costs more to dye a different color boot to black. This customer opted to just spray the eyelets with black dye. We can change them out to black for $140. Here is the link for the job on our website

Do you think it would be possible to resize a pair of Iron Ranger from size 8 to 7 1/2 while resoling?
It is possible. However, we don’t offer resizing services. Check out Manny The Bootmaker on TH-cam. Also, Bedos on TH-cam. They offer resizing services
sweet😎👍
