Marc, to be honest, I first started watching you to share in your adventures in a new country. Then I really became invested in Dave , whose absence has left a big hole. Now I just enjoy seeing how you are fairing in the winter in your lovely old home. Keep doing your daily inputs, and viewers will keep traveling along with you.
Salut Marc, it was also the anniversary of my mother’s passing, 14 years ago. I watch for several reasons; I am planning on ‘going solo in France’ be it, I am in my sixties, female & currently live in Australia. I’ve just sold my home. I would also like to purchase a small cottage in France perhaps not so rural & but renovated with a garden. It’s interesting to watch your daily life, the highs & lows, the seasonal changes in your garden, the weather & how you generally manage as a solo English speaking person in France. I also appreciate your unpretentious & honest chats you have with us viewers. It’s also good to simply know how you’re getting on, like a having a catch up with a local friend. Like so many others here, I also enjoyed watching you & Dave together. I would be interested in seeing more outside your home & garden for eg., the local area, the supermarket/ market where you shop etc. more of your daily life by car. Perhaps you could take us for a drive every now & then, to your supply stores. Take care & see you in the next one 😊 Alice
Hi Marc, I started watching your channel to follow along with your kooky renovations (sorry, I meant that nicely) and I’ve also enjoyed your outdoor antics with your garden, Dave, nature reserve etc but what keeps me interested is your authenticity. I love animals but I think that getting one to keep youtube viewers happy isn’t a great idea, I suggest you get one only if it works for you.
Hello Marc! Personally, I enjoy watching you build things and improve your property. Gardening, vegetable patch, your epic struggle with decor and such. We all miss Dave. Don't get a pet if you are not 100% committed to accepting an animal as part of your family. Best wishes From South Africa 🇿🇦
Mark, I started watching you when you were arranging your furniture and I was fascinated. I did fall in love with Dave but knew he wasn’t going to be a permanent fixture on your blog. I just enjoy your rambling and get a chuckle out of your stories. Keep up the good work and don’t be so down on yourself. You’re living your best life and that is wonderful!
that's a not bad potato haul for December, well done. Build a little greenhouse on that side of the house so you can open the door and let the heat in. I tune in to see how you are doing, what you are up to, how you are sorting things out. I tune in for You Mark. Keep talking to the camera - I will keep watching you talk to your camera. Hoping that someone will gift you a pony or Bring Dave back for you 🙏
miss Dave get a rescue pony love to see what you are doing on the house. You definitely need some help with that..I would have definitely done it differently but you are a man 😉 on your own.keep up the good work
Hi Marc happy Christmas well done for a good year of vlogging I believe your still grieving Dave and he was a big part of your life and ours every time you walk pass his shelter I feel sad new year new beginnings press on keep getting up in the morning your never short of a project that’s for sure I don’t want you to change anything on your vlogs it’s you and how you live we just nosy friends ❤
Dave was your IKIGAI. One of the reasons why the Japanese people in the Blue Zone of Okinawa live so long. The easiest meaning is IKIGAI = Raison d'être. Dave gave you something meaningful to do everyday that you enjoyed and you were also making a positive contribution. Of course this is an oversimplification but there is a book called IKIGAi by Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles that I found very useful. There are 5 designated Blue Zones in the world where people have the longest life span. The research explains what are some of the common contributing factors. Not exactly sure why I follow since I have no real interest in your stone house renovation since my house needs no related work, and I don't understand most of what you are doing. I have a live on a good size property on a little kettle pond that is on conservation land so I can relate to your love of your nature reserve. It is interesting to read comments from folks in other parts of the world and see what we have in common & how we solve all kinds of challenges. Seems that just about everyone can relate to your relation with Dave and empathize with your loss and are anxiously waiting to see when and what kind of a pet you will get. I have 2 cats but I believe you will be happiest with a dog who is in a shelter who desperately needs a good home. Keep looking and you will know "the one".
I like to see nice people doing well, Marc, and you've grown a lot since I first started watching. I too would recommend a rescue dog as a great companion.
I guess I watch because I can identify with all your daily struggles. I know I'd be bumbling through a lot more than you Mark. It's great to see someone from the UK going for it in France and look how far you've come!
Our neighbour's cows have detoured into our yard too. Major damage to my carefully babied shelterbelt 😠. Took about 3 years before I couldn’t see the damage anymore. Have had horses come by too. And of course, deer and moose. Never a dull moment! 😀 I like watching the daily travails of other acreage folk. Nice to see how people do things in other parts of the world. Dave was certainly a draw, I have 3 minis and a "re-homed" mini-mule amongst my menagerie. I think animals are a huge audience draw. But - if you do get a new friend, be prepared for endless comments, many of which will be stupidily critical 🙄.
Hi Marc, I first started watching because I enjoyed your banter and how you took care of Dave. Now I tune in just to see what you’ve been up because it feels like catching up with a friend. I enjoy the outdoors more than the indoors. Love seeing your land change with the seasons. Those pesky cows did quite a job on your pasture. Hope it smooths out with a heavy rain. I admire how meticulous you are when you take on a projects. Keep being you. And I love the rooster.
Answer: like it all, the renovations, your veggie garden and your chat as you walk up and down your field. Seems to be a formula that works for your regulars such as me. Best wishes and merry Christmas. What are you doing on Chrissie day?
Hi Marc. I watch because enjoy all of it, love the nature reserve, and the cows will have done the field good, it will settle. Enjoy you waffling & saying how you feel, so just keep doing what your doing. Have you thought about getting a donkey instead of a dog or cat, but if not sure maybe stay as you are for now. Take care 💙🌲💙🌲
Hi Marc, I tune in mainly because I like your sense of humor. Your first video intrigued me, driving from the UK to your place in France. I loved the fact that you began tidying up the property immediately, so that was binge worthy to see the progress. Then came Dave the Rockstar. I was hooked. Then heartbreak. Your adventures keep unfolding, so I like to check in and see your progress. I appreciate your gumption, plus you are very amusing. All the best for the new year🎉
We watch as we enjoy your chats to your subscribers. You give us a giggle when you bumble around, just like we do in Bulgaria. Cried when Dave went and could see you were genuinely upset, only get a pet when you are ready for one but they are great company. Will continue to watch you and wish you luck in all you do.
I started watching your vlogs, from near the beginning, because you are a genuine guy that has a heart, that lets us see the true life of everything. So from the start you have achieved your goal. So my advice, is keep being you.❤
It's interesting to see what people are doing in other parts of the world. I enjoy watching how you solve all of life's little problems. It's a bit of a detective drama. Thanks for the videos.
Saying “hello”! I enjoy your channel because you’re just doing ordinary things… fixing the house, doing the gardening, looking after a neighbour’s pony. It’s very easy watching and a chance to see a regular life. If you miss Dave, you can get a pet (or two) of your own. Have you though about a couple of chickens, who will reward you with fresh eggs? And a cat or a dog (or both) for family time in the evenings. I think you would enjoy that
I am interested in what's going on in your world. I like seeing work inside and outside. You give me a connection to France. I said it before, watching your videos is like catching up with a friend over coffee. One day, I hope to be able to do it in person but until then, I will wait for your next video.
Hi Marc, I watch because I am also moving to France soon and like to see what life is like for the average foreigner. I’m American rather than British, but your channel is still very relatable. I really enjoyed the Dave content and am sorry he was taken away, I do hope he is ok wherever he is now. I also enjoy seeing the house and garden work as I will be purchasing an older cheap house myself. What I’d like to see more of: the general area of the Charente and what it’s like to live there, what kind of town do you have nearby, what amenities does it have? Any good hiking spots nearby or historical attractions? I’d also like to know more about your visa process and how you were able to move there. The only thing I dislike about the channel is the sometimes conspiratorial thinking. I tend to disagree with most of that, but you seem like a very nice guy with a good heart so I brush it off. Would like to see/hear less of that personally however. Overall, I enjoy watching :)
I miss Dave too he was cute in his own way . Just hope he is okay and being well looked after like you did xx. Any cutting down of trees and bushes is the correct time for year to do it xx
Have you considered installing a solar heater panel on that wall? They are not free by any means, but they are not that dear. Maybe an idea to utilize some of the sunshine in the winter? Take care and keep on trucking 🙂
I think you tube recommended your channel to me because I was watching other people who've left their home country and started new lives. I like watching people renovate, work the land, learn new cultures, etc. Dave was also a big draw, but now it's just nice to see what you're up to. I do hope you get yourself a creature for company at some point. I think we all feel a little sad about Dave.
You asked why folk watch … an interesting question I don’t watch television and have a raft of you tube things I watch usually property Oriented but I always watch yours first, why. I find it calming. It’s real
You seem to struggle with the loss of Dave and I think a lot of your viewers do. 😞 I enjoy watching your day to day life in France. But you need some company you are a caring person and need some thing (pet) to care for I think you would feel better but only you can decide when that the right time. 😘
I came across you by accident and then somehow stayed on. Get frustrated with your actions in the house but I am not sure if you need another woman telling you what to do, so I watch and moan to myself. And be kind to yourself, it is winter so we do not have so much energy as in the summer. My husband had a massive heart attack in October and it shown me that we should be thankful for every good day. Pet would make a difference to your live, my dog gave us 13 happy years, but not getting another one as at our age it is getting too much responsibility, but I still think of her. Nature reserve looks great. 😊
Mark I love your nature reserve it is such a good haven for the wildlife as nowadays there seems to be less and less land for the birds and small animals to feel safe. I enjoy all of your videos as both outside and inside brings joy to my life as I'm mostly housebound. Also you have a good sense of humour and your honesty is so refreshing rather than just saying what you think viewers like to hear. Also to learn about your different lifestyle in France and differences in culture from my own is very interesting. I do miss Dave very much but life must go on and I'm sure there's a four legged friend waiting around the corner just for you with its tail wagging who would enjoy going down to the nature for a lovely walk beside his master. Keep chin up Mark, anniversary can be hard think happy times. Florence Scotland
Can’t wait until you get a dog I have a rescue best thing I ever did they don’t answer back no they are the best company and it get you out and make friends
I had a little laugh at you hanging up your washing, I used to do exactly that when I lived there, moving the washing as the sun moved round. Living in a foreign country does feel lonely sometimes but over time it gets easier… building a group of friends around you and having a pet helps.
Came across your channel by accident, but have stayed and watched most of the back catalogue of videos. Loved seeing Dave, I'm a keen gardener so like that. Find the inside fascinating, how and why you decide to alter it, and seeing the result. 😮😊. The only thing I'm finding odd is why all the time effort and money into doing chicken run, but still no chickens? Have I missed something 😂... Sorry for the ramble..
Hiya Marc sorry been quiet due to internal water leak damage !!! Not anything you have done, totally Understandable your buddy's secret disappearance has unsettled you Rockstar was a major part of your day , gave you a purpose and distraction from home improvement decisions and more importantly rambling company with just an occasional bite when he got fed up listening , it's ok to take time out and regroup you normally are on the go busy with one thing or another don't be too hard on yourself I'm sure you will spring back when ready, yes the cows sure took a liking to your beautiful green grass hopefully they managed to dig in their manure on the way out it will spring back just like yourself , as for hot wall I have similar at the back of my home I grow successfully tomatoes, cucumber ,beans , strawberries, raspberries all in tubs against it maybe something you need have a think about utilising one way or another I think you a homemade greenhouse may help to keep up your food supplies obviously but bit of a winter headspace purpose too , mixture of DIY, gardening and the odd ramble and your sense of humour with your sneaky one liner gems x
Hi Marc I just watch all that you do from the very start as you make me laugh. You are a down to earth bloke ans says it as you see it, Plus I like to see what you been up too
Hi Marc I started watching as your an inspiration to people post 50 to go and try something new. I then came completely invested in Dave’s adventures and I’m saddened for you that he’s gone and you don’t even know where. I like it when you complete a project in the house and we see how you get there. Talking therapies can be helpful, that’s having someone listen to you as you find your own solutions to your situations in life…..TH-cam has become your way of talking out loud what’s on your mind and gives you the space to process your thoughts as you talk to all of us. By the next video you’ve found what works for you and a way forward. I’d love to see you have the company of a pet of your own. Keep on keeping on
I enjoy watching you Marc.I live in France too in Sarlat la Caneda. My husband & l do similar chores gardening & looking after the house, both retired now.Keep up the good work!!
I tune in because we have had a house in france for the last 22 years and absolutely love it, but never d he opportunity to live full time in france. So I watch you and see what life is really like because I have this idea in my head what it would be like . Also I think you a brave soul to do what you’re doing solo. Keep up the good vids. Meilleurs voeux de l'Angleterre et de la Bretagne
Marc, you are a lone fighter. I respect every person who leaves their home country and sets off for foreign lands. It's interesting to see how you settle in there, how you design your life, your garden and your house. Maybe you'll have a pet next year. That would be an enrichment for you and us as viewers.
I just enjoy having a little visit, getting to see how you’re doing with whatever you’re up to. It’s your channel and you should just film whatever you want to, people will either watch or they won’t😂. Crazy that the cows got into your field, they must have been looking at it and thinking the grass was greener on the other side of the road so decided to try it. At least the manure will help the field green up well come spring. I’m surprised it was so hot there, it’s been cold here for at least a month or more, we’ve had 2 or 3 snow storms already. Currently it’s 11c , pouring rain and the wind is blowing a gale. We’re under an alert for high winds, storm surge and possible flooding . I am really hoping for a white Christmas though, brown muddy ones just spoil the joy for me. I live below ground in a lovely apartment of my daughter’s family home, it would be cold here except I have a lot of windows in the kitchen and living room that let the sun in and they heat the apartment well. The whole end of the house is windows and French doors and not underground. I wake up around 7:30 or 8 and turn on a heater and get back in bed to read for awhile until it warms up when the sun hits the windows and it stays warm till around 6 or 7 when I have to turn the heat up for a little before bed. The sun shining in the windows really helps my winter depression too, I rarely shut the blinds or curtains so the sun can come in. Take care, be happy 🙋🏼♀️
Hi Mark , i like to watch what you are doing in live ... different things ..as gardening your opinion on subjects i like also ... and you are asking things about in side the house of the viewers .. so i have the feeling to be there ... i love how you think about animals and so one and so one ..I watch your channel for what makes you ,you no nosens guy with his one struggles and solutions ... me and my hubbie going to France 27/12 to look for a house ( in Normandie )...maybe do also a video for friends and family.. like you do... we inspirit by you ..... have a nice week, with sunshine ....
Mark, If you fill a piece of green or black garden hose with water and hang it up in a u shape against the hot wall for an hour or so and then tip it out you be surprised how hot it gets. You can recover that heat and use it to heat the house somewhat. I am sure there will be plenty of Yt videos on the subject. At least the cows left you a bit of manure in the field. I watch to follow your journey and like the rambling nature of it. Not really into gardening or cooking but am interested in how other people live or cope with life. ATB regards from the UK
Hi Mark I watch and have been binge watching over the last few month mostly because i liked the first vlog i saw of yours from a few years back so decided to watch them all Well im this far so far by next week i might be up to date lol My wife and i are coming to france to get the hell off the rat run and also this sinking ship that is the UK Keep up the good work
what append to Dave was unfair. We miss him too. It was too quick with no warning where he went. I watch because I like to get different opinions of what other people do and like etc. I also watch a couple in Scotland that live on an island. It is interesting to see how as people we are alike while being so different. Your channel has a calm and easy going format while finding out how you live in a different country. (I live in the USA, Richmond Virginia, in a rural area too.) We are a very historical area with the civil war and the revolutionary war too.
Hi Marc, Have watched your videos from the start of your channel and for me the highlight was the picture you made using left over paint. I am always drawn to it when you do your interior shots. You have access to loads of materials right there on your land ie: twigs, stones, wood offcuts, and foliage etc so I think you should get creative and see where it takes you.
Why do I watch your vlogs? All of the reasons you mentioned and I enjoy getting to know a kind hearted, honest, level headed, hard working, modest person. I have enjoyed nearly 100%, I did not enjoy watching you so upset, that made me sad. But thats bound to happen now and then when others share their worries or heart aches and I wouldn't want you to stop being honest about what's going on in your life. We got a bit of snow today, 35°f here in Michigan. Take care, ~ Deb 🌲❄️🌲❄️🌲❄️🌲🎄❄️🎄 ⛄🦌🛷🍪Merry Christmas!!
I'm interested in you because you started life over in another country. I enjoy watching your channel because you're pretty easy going, logical, reasonable, say what you think, you work hard. It's obvious that you try to plan ahead but also adapt quickly to deal with issues but you have the patience to not rush so you csn think things through and you're not afraid to change your mind. You communicate well, I enjoy your field chats. I enjoy the majority of what you film both inside your home and out. I'm looking forward to seeing what animal(s) you aquire to befriend and care for.
I watch because you are telling the story of a maverick, someone who is living differently. My life, working in the NHS for 36 years, feels like drudgery, you offer the fantasy hope of living another way. That's why I watch. It's keeping a dream alive.
Honestly initially I subscribed because of Dave as we are a horsey family and no doubt the YT algorithm thought it might be of interest. My sister has a second home in the Charente so it’s an area I know a little and I quite enjoy your antics even “sans Dave” so haven’t unsubscribed yet so it can’t be all bad - just do you ? I liked that you continued to care for your little “shitland” buddy even after he bit you so badly so I’m interested to see what might come next on your meanderings through French country life
Hi Marc, we enjoy watching your video's for your chat and to see how you are going about making a life for yourself in France which includes work on your land and property. As this something we have started doing ourselves. 🙂
Well where do you start ,I like the way you chat away as if I am the only person your talking too , I injoy watching how you can put your hand to just about anything , and it turns out amazing Trees are my favourite thing and yes I will give tree's a hug and a thankyou because without them we wouldn't be able to breathe , well that's my way of thinking . The birds when your outside sound amazing including the cockral , your art work I watched you do is brilliant , and looks so good on your wall ,I could go on for ever but I need a cup of tea all this talking has made my throat dry lol would you like one ? Oh I do have the same beard of coffee as you if you prefer ❤
PG Tips sorry about your field etc are u sure his taking for a walk ? Could be milking twice a day !!!! Hope y get back on track and focus on jobs love watching what u do and achieve 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
First I started watching because I want to buy a little cottage in the french countryside to fix up and I thought watching you I could learn the problems and solutions you might get with that. I wanted a normal little cottage not a chateau and a normal person who could be a neighbour
Hi,Marc reason I watch your videos is your home how it's coming along and your land and I am hoping in the future to buy my own property in France and need to start french lessons soon.
Yes Mark I’ve felt a bit like that with some of the videos I’ve recently done… in fact I’ve just deleted one , I thought nobody would be interested in it. 😐
The "warm" wall of your house? Does it face south? Your veggie patch? for the first couple of years grow the easy stuff, Beans, Leeks, Onions (from sets), Tomatoes, Chard, Radish, Lettuce. Never grow Spuds in the same possie as last year (Blight!), Get yerself a freezer so you can freeze the surplus, a few Berry bushes, helps too Rhubarb is also easy. My Veggie patch is 3 1/2 metres by 3 metres I have a green house 8x6 and with a bit of forethought, I can grow enough veggie to last me thro the winter, YES! we only grow the quick growing stuff, and the long lasting ,high producing stuff, (from 5 Black Current bushes we get enough berries for our cerial to last several months) Learn by your mistakes you can't hurry Mother Nature!
I tune in because I’d love to live like you … small house in the county side where I could make nice home for myself … so I admire that you had the courage to leave your comfort zone and turn your life into something new … also your kind of funny and I enjoy your rambles 😊
I tune in to see what you’re up to! I hope you don’t get a dog…I worry about the vet bills most of all! Also if a herd of cows can get onto your land, how are would you keep a dog from roaming the countryside without going to a lot of expense?🤔keep well,Marc!
I just like you chatting away telling about what you have planed, don't know what it is I just like watching, maybe it is because I have no life in Kansas
I started watching re the renovation stuff as I follow a few for similar reasons, I must admit I dont tend to watch your videos all that often anymore as the walking, talking and Dave dont interest me and I switch off 😬. I like the ones that show renovation and life in the country they are living in, one turret short of a chateau is my fave and they show life outside their house and garden not just talking.
I watch because I enjoy listening to you chatting. You are natural no nonsense .
Marc, to be honest, I first started watching you to share in your adventures in a new country. Then I really became invested in Dave , whose absence has left a big hole. Hey
I love the cosiness of your channel. What's not to like, the talk, the everyday life, the improvement of the house and garden. I like I all. 😊

I'm missing Dave.
I watch because you are very down to earth and say how it is in your own way on all aspects of your way of living in France

To see walking in the garden. I wish to see some chickens around you to replace David.

Good natural fertilizer for your field.
The reason I watch your channel is because I found you funny and relatable...and of course sweet old Dave.
It's interesting to see what people are doing in other parts of the world. I enjoy watching how you solve all of life's little problems. It's a bit of a detective drama. Thanks for the videos.
I like hearing your British accent . It's like hearing a little story, Sometimes funny and always encouraging me to get on with my own task.
Cows can churn up a good field in no time… but it sometimes does the field good in the long term… great manure.
I watch your videos from Perth Western Australia, I like your videos that have a variety of tasks and chatting in them 🙂
I miss Dave too he was cute in his own way .
You asked why folk watch … an interesting question I don’t watch television and have a raft of you tube things I watch usually property
Oriented but I always watch yours first, why.
They probably have been eyeing that delicious, juicy, unsoiled lawn for a while, and grasped an opportunity. Xmas dinner,😊😊
😂
Thanks for taking the time to comment Florence :-)
Hi Mark. What about two goats? They make great pets and will keep your grass short too!
I tune in because you're such a great bloke. It really doesn't matter to me what you get up to. Sorry if this doesn't help much. x
I’m sure your mum will be smiling down on you in rural france and what you have achieved. Hope you are keeping well
Marc, you are a lone fighter.
I would love to get more sunlight in to the house :-)
A couple of goats? To graze in the nature reserve and keep the brambles down. Tethered during the day and live in Dave’s old home.
Hi Mark
I watch and have been binge watching over the last few month mostly because i liked the first vlog i saw of yours from a few years back so decided to watch them all
Well im this far so far by next week i might be up to date lol
My wife and i are coming to france to get the hell off the rat run and also this sinking ship that is the UK
Keep up the good work
what append to Dave was unfair.
I watch because I like renovations both inside and out. I sometimes get bored with too much chatting. ❤
Take care, ~ Deb

⛄🦌🛷🍪Merry Christmas!!
Merry Christmas😀
I'm interested in you because you started life over in another country. I enjoy watching your channel because you're pretty easy going, logical, reasonable, say what you think, you work hard. It's obvious that you try to plan ahead but also adapt quickly to deal with issues but you have the patience to not rush so you csn think things through and you're not afraid to change your mind. You communicate well, I enjoy your field chats. I enjoy the majority of what you film both inside your home and out. I'm looking forward to seeing what animal(s) you aquire to befriend and care for.
Thanks Hanna :-)
Just keep doing what you are doing. Doubt that helps but hope it helps.
😊
PG Tips sorry about your field etc are u sure his taking for a walk ? Could be milking twice a day !!!! Hope y get back on track and focus on jobs love watching what u do and achieve 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Hiya Marc, I love watching your channel because I like to see how Brits get on when moving to another country oh ok and I am nosey lol.
Love all your content Marc🎉
Srry for YOUR Mothers Los, Love YOU from DANMARK🙏🙏🙏🇩🇰🇩🇰❤️❤️❤️🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
My Veggie patch is 3 1/2 metres by 3 metres I have a green house 8x6 and with a bit of forethought, I can grow enough veggie to last me thro the winter, YES! we only grow the quick growing stuff, and the long lasting ,high producing stuff, (from 5 Black Current bushes we get enough berries for our cerial to last several months)
Learn by your mistakes you can't hurry Mother Nature!
I tune in because I’d love to live like you … small house in the county side where I could make nice home for myself … so I admire that you had the courage to leave your comfort zone and turn your life into something new … also your kind of funny and I enjoy your rambles 😊
May be wild life hide and a wild life camera in your nature reserve somewhere you can sit and enjoy the quiet time
I tune in to see what you’re up to! I hope you don’t get a dog…I worry about the vet bills most of all! Also if a herd of cows can get onto your land, how are would you keep a dog from roaming the countryside without going to a lot of expense?🤔keep well,Marc!
Because you're cute. 😊
😊☺
Alpacas?
I think most people want to jump off the rat race & live somewhere peaceful 👍🏻
Ask around maybe someone has an extra puppy 🐶 they would want a new home for
I just like you chatting away telling about what you have planed, don't know what it is I just like watching, maybe it is because I have no life in Kansas
