I was living in Pahoa HI in 94 and was the original shack man. I had to move out because my landlord said his musician friends from the east coast were coming to town. I was kind of resentful but saw them play later and was impressed. Had no idea who they were but years later I heard shack man and it all clicked.

THANK YOU!!!! This was the year I discovered them thru a local college Jazz DJ friend. 25 years years later, and still they give me a spring in my step, and a groove in my bones. Seeing them live was always a treat, and hearing this just makes me feel good. Viva MMW !!!!!!!

Thank you for this!! I'm shocked that MMW doesn't self release more live shows. They have done so many interesting things over their career...there's just an un-ending supply of material there. I would be totally on board for a live series that documents all the craziness.

MMW and you with Jacob Fred both played at the Berkfest I went to, the final year of it. MMW played their usual wonderful self, JFJO I caught a late night tent set, you guys played "loopy", as I call it, constant tempo changing, very out, but people were dancing! I personally loved it.

Where did this show occur? Fox in Boulder? This was around when I saw them for the first time at the Covered Dish in Gainesville....they made a lot of fans that night. Started trading for tapes of their shows next day!

Hey Reed man! I searched "MMW" in youtube and you was the first result with this treasure, here. Props amigo! First time I saw JFJO was a "life-changing musical moment," indeed. It was upstairs at Rudyard's Pub in Houston, TX in January or February 2002. Then one time i was on a Mississippi river boat queen during voodoo fest in New Orleans in like '06, catching a sick groove on the packed dancefloor of a Greyboy Allstars Show. Who was I to see playing a stellar (and straight ahead) funk bass, but Mr. Reed Mathis, the avant-guard hero. Do you remember me Reed when I shouted out to you between songs and asked you to "play some weird shit!"? I recall making ya laugh. Anywhoozle, Karl D. shouted you out on the mic right after that, and I felt pretty cool. Good day, Sir.
