do you mean unknown or underrated ? I've never met a musician thats aware of MMW that doesn't think all 3 of them are amazing.
Saw these guys live at small coffee house back in the 90s. Probably the best show I've ever seen. These guys just have something.

they put him in the middle, he’s illyB and John’s anchor. With out Chris, it would be chaos as we know it... nuclear winter.

I heard these guys at a theater in Hollywood in 99 i think! I couldn't watch them because I couldn't sit still, and so listened and danced on the side walk outside this sit down event! I would love it they'd come back to the states for a tour!

These guys still have the greatness. I wish they were still touring the country, not just playing the odd big gig like Red Rocks. It would be most joyous to see them in the heart of the USA.

Saw them live in Vail Colorado back in the 90’s in this opera house…it was nuts…they need to do another tour of small Colorado venues again

Heard MMW on a Philly jazz station years ago, and never forgot their name. That one song I heard just grabbed me good. Fast forward to now, 20 some years later. Just purchased Last Chance To Trance Dance, to dip my toe in the water. They've got a real nice combo of different genres mixed together to form a great sound.
My fave trio is The Nice, (after Davy List was canned) because of the mashing together of jazz, rock and classical music. Yes, though: Lee Jackson's vocals can be an "acquired" appreciation. Check out "Country Pie" by The Nice, combining Bob Dylan and J.S. Bach and a whole original instrumentation & arrangement. Unique at the very least....

First MMW video I ever saw. I feel like I just returned from a black hole. I understand nothing and everything. A strange and wonderful trip.

I love medeski’s rhodes playing. He uses such tasty overdrive, he turns that gentile rhodes into a screaming machine that gives any wurly a run for its money.

I like the fact that they use mostly classic electric keyboards rather than the soulless digital electronic stuff.

it's a cryin shame the crowd for this insanely talented band, in 2016, was 10 people.

The first one I was these guys was on Austin City Limits years ago maybe in the late 90s. At around the same time Soulive was coming up. I wish the came to Panama City Beach

Aww 🤗That shit was sentimental -a kiss in the 25th minute, but... the subtext. Is that the building of tension ? Perhaps to cloak an imminent betrayal. There's a very dense meta narrative at play, in addition to the concrete narrative, which is shaping up to be downright -Shakespearean- Nay more like a peak the originary Opera, before it's inception or any notion of it at all.

how many people were in attendance at this thing? it looks like ~20 people up front with space to spend. Concerts like these are the best.

ironically, it looks like some of the audience have no idea who MMW is, but they all seem to be enjoying themselves.

Not slamming either band, they are both excellent. I just it funny that MMW often gets compared to ELP, however they completely opposite in almost every way. ELP was very big and played stadiums, MMW prefers the small clubs with an intimate atmosphere. Each member of ELP was constantly fighting for the spotlight where as MMW generally thrives on working together as a band. ELP, MOSTLY, changed with the times in terms of their instruments and technology, and were very synth oriented. MMW generally uses more traditional sounds and old analog instruments and various exotic percussion, remaining very organic. Point is, each band are very much a Yin-Yang to each other.

most "modern" looking setup I've ever seen Billy play lol. That front bass drum head with a hole and control ring.....PINSTRIPE HEADS!!....a freaking china cymbal that doesn't have a huge crack in it...the room is spinning.

The frat bros are synchronically vibing at, what appears to be a state, very nearly approaching the stratum of _peak shit faced_ and there's 49 minutes to go ... I'm sticking around for the theatrics.

funk or avantgarde? It is modern jazz.

  • @scotty6124
    @scotty6124 4 ปีที่แล้ว

MMW is easily my favorite modern "jazz type" band but this performance is not a good reflection of how amazing they are, probably because they weren't playing together very often. Go back a couple years before this when they were touring regularly and then you will really hear how insanely good they are.
