He would have smelled that...I think he knew it and stopped the 40Hz tone. You're right - he doesn't mention it at all.......something fishy here.
well at 40hz that much power yes it will start to smoke not only that he was also clipping it. its a giving that it was smoking thats to be expected
@Mark Seven he said that the only way to destroy it would be to clip it to death (which is what caused the smoking, playing 40hz.)

This is straight gangster !!! I can't even imagine how loud those get in a car. I have a pair of SA-12s on a 2400 amp and it's bout as loud as I can handle. Sometimes almost too much. Those ZV5s are absolute hogs !!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Probably wasnt sending even 1000 watts to it. Free airing take a lot less wattage. Id highly doubt that 12 can handle 4k watts rms free airing

@@jayydudley5897 you clearly don't own sundown zv5 because I got the 18" zv5 and I got a sundown sae2000 pushing 2800 rms to the 2000rms zv5 and it barley moves. But everything in my truck moves. These zv5 can handle around 3500 rms

They got a zv512 and a single cab GM truck on 5K doing 151.8 on the dash on music look it up. I got one in the other room getting two SAE 1500ds strapped and running to it.... waiting on a couple small things and wire. It's also going in a single cab GM truck ..

I don't blow subs up.
I match the RMS power rating to the RMS rating on the amplifiers.
The two amps here average 1,500 watts and I devided that by three.
500 watts to each sub.
I'm shocked that the MTX single stack single coil 2Ω subs take the power. I haven't toasted or slinky the coils yet.
When I do.. Sundown will replace them.
No coil is a single coil surely not at 2 ohms. Just cause there's one connect doesn't mean it's not an 8 layer bifilar coil......fkn dummies.

As for modified music, I would highly recommend DJ Slow'N Throw. He does proper remastering of tracks before slowing them down, so that they don't clip.
Have my Zv5 on 8k and it takes a beating. I’ve also tried to kill it (got two now so I need a recone) but no luck. Sundown For The WIN!!!!
Wikkitt Klown My first zv5 was running alone on a 8k at 1ohm. Now that I have two, I need to change the impedance so I can run them both at 1ohm on that same 8k.

Just a tad of smoke I seen but it was overpowered, free air, and beat to death over 5 minutes straight. Great sub guys.
Random question. How much difference would it make in an enclosure? As far as the surround flex and the occasional popping?
Normally, running a sub at high power in free air wrecks it.
Cheap subs need the air to compress in an enclosure like suspension, to protect them from over extending.
This is clearly not a cheap sub.

Can you do two of the bigger SFB amps one on each coil of the subwoofer, maybe a 5k or 8k on each coil ... plus you can torture test the new amps at the same time .... and see what survives

I bought a couple of U-10’s on the yard sale great deal they had very minor cosmetic defects that 99% of people wouldn’t even notice.
Watching this validates my purchase of the NSV4 15s that’s are coming in.

They only fail due to excessive amounts of clipping, for extended periods of time. Same thing I've been saying forever and a day.
Same thing pretty much applies to amplifiers as well. Soft clipping is one thing, excessive clipping is a whole different animal. The equipment destroyer!

That's box dependent, not subwoofer.

That’s why Sundown is my favorite brand, there’s only a couple of other subs if your lucky that could take that kind of abuse.

Blowing a speaker helps you make it better, to upgrade a speaker you have to rip it completely apart so do it in a fun way

Absolutely love this brand. I have an SA 12 for over 2 years now and it takes every bit of the 1.2-1.4K it's receiving like a champ and never fails to surprise me. I had a question for you @SundownAudioUnofficial, I live in Ontario, Canada. When I went to see how much shipping would be from your yard sale website it mentioned free shipping. Is it really free shipping to Canada?? That's something unheard of.

Blew my zv5 on a bassclef 4k at .5 ohm. gain was at half way and it didnt even distort, just popped and rattled.
I think is best if you have a "control box" so that the coil alignment is not compromised as much when in free air tones

I love the ZV models. I still have two ZV3 18s in my truck with the stock coils. I've clipped them sometimes when I play music. And now I have fed them over 6k watts of power and metered a 155 db.
