    When audio was released of Kirby and Saban talking after SEC championship, Nick said “you were right about one thing, I’m too old for this” Kirby immediately corrected him, but followed that up with “I appreciate everything you taught me coach” that sounded like a respectful and admirable “farewell my friend” and I really felt like Saban was done after the playoffs. The DeBoer detractors don't give this guy enough props. This guy was the AP Coach of the Year, 3-0 vs Lanning, 2-0 vs Sark, and has won everywhere at every level he has coached. He will bring several great players with him through the portal, has a great offensive scheme that will feature a Heisman caliber qb in Milroe, and if he can hire Coach T-Rob at DC-will have the defense solid. Most of the talent on the UW team was already there, recruited by the previous staff. DeBoer brought MPJ and a few other players in, but a lot of talent was already on the team (receivers, o-line, defensive players) and underforming due to the lack of leadership and no star QB. He had the perfect storm for immediate success. DeBoer has been on the move every couple of seasons to new jobs recently, so it'll be interesting to see how he proves himself over the long term 🤷‍♀

    Kalen is a good hire from an Xs and Os standpoint and seems like a good dude. My big question is not what's on the field but off it. Can he recruit and more importantly how much control will he have at setting the tempo and culture at Bama. Saban had a unique way of running his program that very few could match. Does the fans, boosters, donors, etc. fully except Kalens way? Or quietly are they whispering that's not what Saban would do. That is going to be the big question for me. Bama needs to go all in on Kalen and effectively commit to the whatever type of program he wants to run. Not just lips service or changes in some ways but everything. Anything less and it won't work

Everyone has been fawning over Dan Lanning, but Lanning took over a program that has been recruiting well for about 2 decades and was well stocked by Christobal and DeBoer came into a program that has been very inconsistent and has had frequent turnover in the coaching staff and he beat Lanning twice even though Lanning had the advantage on resources.

In fact, Washington's recruiting class was ranked 95th the year before DeBoer arrived, they've had zero 5 star recruits since 2019. As for Oregon, Nike does their recruiting, not Lanning. There is a reason why Oregon has had the most money donated to their program since 2005 in all of college football at 1 billion! Nike. Oregon leads the next team on the list in donations by a whopping 120 million since 2005. Washington has only had 420 million donated to them since 2005. Was UW irrelevant when Don James dominated college football and won UW their 2nd natty? Was it irrelevant when Rick Neuheisel took them to the Rose Bowl, or when Chris Peterson was HC and took them to the Peach Bowl? UW is in the Top 25 of the winningest colleges in NCAA football history. In fact Washington has the 2nd most wins in Pac12 history (behind USC). I know it’s not the coveted SEC or the 6 other colleges that are always talked about, but UW isn’t irrelevant.

    Well JP, I know what I’ll catch from some Bama ‘fans’ for saying this but I don’t worry about them, so here goes: I LIKE IT. I trust Saban, we have a really great top drawer AD, and I LIKE IT. I like it, I trust the heads that be at my Bama, and I LIKE IT. It’s going to be a transition. But everything is transitional now with the portal and NIL and CFB as I’ve known it for decades is dead, dead, dead as a door nail, so let’s light this candle! The Saban era is gone, but he’ll still be whispering.
    Trust the process. RTR 🐘🏈
    Kalen DeBoer, welcome to Alabama, welcome home, sweet home!
    Edit: Yes, born in Bama, been for Bama since the Bear, seen it all. I definitely remember all the Saban naysayers when he stepped off the plane. They don’t remember panning Saban but ooooh, I remember them pouring out the hate. I’ve seen it all. Gonna see some more, RTR!

    Meteoric rise. We'll see how it goes. I think Bama will chug along pretty good for a couple of years just based on what Saban has built. He's IMO a PLENTY good coach, an excellent coach. The key is at a place like Bama, although there might not be any fan base quite as spoiled as Bama is, CAN HE DEAL WITH THE PRESSURE? That's the key. That level of pressure just wrecks a lot of folks. About as good a hire as I think they COULD have gotten.

      I’m not sure if you’re being insensitive and using the circumstances to mock and laugh at Washington fans, or if you’re actually trying to be empathetic and sympathize with our pain… It’s actually really hard. Devastating, like your eloquent example. We get to the natty but lose the natty. But we have hope because we have a great HC. Pete Carroll gets fired, so that’s devastating. Then our awesome UW HC, that carries our hopes and dreams of getting back to the natty, rug pulls leaving us with a bare bones team and nothing recruited. It’s kind of a big middle finger. Its crushing. So, thanks if you’re genuinely sympathizing. It’s been a crappy week.

I get that it’s the Bama job, but it’s going to come with so many strings and issues I’m surprised he wants to deal with that when he already had such a great program that literally got farther than Bama this year. Kalen DeBoer is a great coach but his lack of recruiting is a massive question mark and it never bitten him because he had great transfers and inherited a great talented roster . 40th ranked recruiting class will not do it every year

    • @robh_tex
      @robh_tex 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      THIS is the main red flag I see with Kalen. He hasn't built a roster at any of his D1 stops, he takes the inherited talent and succeeds with it, but he hasn't stayed anywhere long enough at the FBS level to demonstrate he can sustain success in one place cycle after cycle. The second flag is the defenses have been suspect. Fortunately for DeBoer, Saban is an expert in D and in recruiting/talent acquisition, so will no doubt help the new coach improve in those areas if he's receptive to taking that advice.

    I don't know much about Kalen DeBoer, but I will say that the man has to have nerves of steel. Either that, or he really has no idea what a buzzsaw he has just walked into. I hope for his sake and the sake of other Bama fans like me, that it's the former. Because he has just taken on the most difficult job in the history of college football to date. In an era of unprecedented volatility with the playoff format changing, NIL, transfer portal craziness, and massive conference realignments, this man decides to try to succeed the greatest head coach in the history of the sport at a school, after 17 years, in the most brutal conference with possibly the most unforgiving fanbase in college football. And it's not like Nick Saban's coaching acumen had started to decline, and the cupboard was bare at Alabama. Saban had just won an SEC title and made it to the playoffs for the 8th time.
