LOL. He inherited a 4-8 team and coached them to 14-1 in two years, without the benefit of a team loaded with 4 and 5 star players. That should tell you that he can do even better with Bama's current roster of 19 5 stars and 46 4 stars. The Bama football program is far more than just the head coach. It's a system with a century long winning tradition. Even though Mike Shula didn't win to Bama's standards, 52 of the players who were on Saban's first championship team in 2009 were brought there by Shula. Meaning: Alabama will ALWAYS get great players, no matter who the coach is. You need to understand that today's high school players have been watching Bama win championships since they were in diapers. A lot of those kids are honored to be considered by the top program in the nation.
As for Penix, when he was coming out of high school, he was not a blue chip prospect. Tennessee rejected him, so he wound up at Indiana. DeBoer saw his potential and brought him to Washington, and turned him into a Heisman finalist and high NFL draft pick.

The problem is that the Big 10 Midwest teams have laid out the blueprint for stopping that in two national championship games with 2014 OSU beating Oregon 42-20 and Michigan beating Kalen's Washington team 34-13. I expect more of the same with Kalen. These videos are puff pieces because social media need some more Alabama videos.

He’s gonna be able to recruit because of the simple fact of what he did at Washington. It showed that he could do it at the D1 college level just like he done it at the other levels he was at. It’s the same thing that Nick had done at LSU that helped him do what he did at Alabama. It’s the school does a lot of it but Calen DeBoer will probably be almost as successful or as successful as Nick Saban unless he leaves for another job.
