I told him that can't be true. (Can't trust written reviews these days). I'll send him your video. Thanks so much again!
You get better selection and more restaurants if you buy the star class package, you can book restaurants apparently. We didn't book that route. The food is ok generally. Surprisingly the burger and fries was a good goto for us. The Mexican restaurant was very good too. The teppanyaki, is fun if you get a good chef, others are not as vocal/entertaining. You get a choice of 3 proteins - chicken, fish or steak, we asked for all three, they ended up all seasoned the same. The sushi is not that great. You can also go to a regular table and order from the menu. Only the teppanyaki you have to reserve at 3pm the day of, in front of the restaurant. The rest are first come first served. If you go to the steak restaurant too late, they don't have spots left. When you get in, you can order as many entrees and appies as you want. The mexican restaurant closes on mondays, and they do a big buffet & show in the central stage area. Plenty of space for everyone.
If I remember correctly, the pools start to close at 6. So the swim up bars follow suit. However, the other bars on the campus remain open late. Some closed at 11, other closed well past midnight. It all depends on which part of the resort you're on.

Hi Jay, Hope you’re well & thanks for another helpful & informative video. It was good to find that you’d stayed here as your videos of Royalton Bavaro were really useful & helped us to decide to book that resort & also what rooms to pick. On that note, I know PH & Royalton Bavaro have a few similarities but seem pretty much like chalk & cheese overall in terms of the look & feel of the place but also how lively PH seems. We loved Bavaro & although we found the resort to be far from perfect, we had an amazing time & would go back but like to try different places. Just wondered how you would rate the 2 resorts against each other. Thanks in advance. Ben.
PH is newer and more "modern" if that makes sense. Don't get me wrong, the Bavaro is awesome and we had a great time but if I had to chose between the 2 again, i'd go with PH. It had more to offer and the layout of the campus is way nicer (in my opinion). Food, staff, and drinks are all amazing at both resorts. Either way, you're going to have a great time but for me, PH all the way!
Because of your video's, we just booked here. We don't have kids so we're doing Star Class, Adult Scene. We love your travel series. We watch them all. Cheers from Toronto, Canada!

Excellent video!! Really helpful to know what to expect. Going on July 2023 with my kid, can't wait! I was trying to decide between the Barcelo Maya (I watched your review on that hotel, excellent as well) and Planet Hollywood. I was initially inclined for the Barcelo, but I found a great deal and decided to experience Planet Hollywood this time (basically same price, I think PH has a better beach and it is closer to the airport). We're very low maintenance, not demanding at all (as you described yourself), so I know it will be an excellent place to take my kid and enjoy a great time :) Just a few questions: 1. The small cabanas right in front of the beach, are they on first come first serve basis? Or do they need reservation (cost included)? 3. I guess the only addon/extra cost activities not included in the all-inclusive package are the trampoline/games area and the Fast & Furious ride, correct? 4. Last one, I believe the hotel is located in the middle of nowhere (according with the travel agency). Is there an oxxo, walmart or another supermarket near the resort? Or would we need to take a taxi back to city centre? Keep it up! Great reviews, extremely helpful!!
Just a few answers: 🙂 1. According with your comments about the lazy river and the low number of floaters, would you suggest to bring our own floatation devices? I've heard that this was a temporary issue and that the floaties are now back out there for everyone. My advice, hit up a local 5 and below and scoop a few up just in case. If you don't use them, you can always return them. This way you're covered. 2. The small cabanas right in front of the beach, are they on first come first serve basis? Or do they need reservation (cost included)? They are first come first served. I've never used them before. We always had a cabana by the pool and usually spent 90% of our time there. 3. I guess the only addon/extra cost activities not included in the all-inclusive package are the trampoline/games area and the Fast & Furious ride, correct? This is all correct. Not 100% sure but i recently heard the F&F ride is now gone? If so, that's a shame. That was very short lived! 4. Last one, I believe the hotel is located in the middle of nowhere (according with the travel agency). Is there an oxxo, walmart or another supermarket near the resort? Or would we need to take a taxi back to city centre? Your agent is right. Nothing is within walking distance. I'd say anything like what you're looking for is a good 30 mins away via a taxi. @@JaysDMC that's amazing! Thanks for taking the time to reply and respond the questions. I agree, it is a shame if F&F is gone! I know we'll have a blast, anyway! :)
Just came back from there last week. Lazy river is still limited with the floaters. You had to wait until someone gives up theirs. I would recommend bringing your own. I regret not buying some when my wife suggested it. The lazy river is open from 7am to 7pm, and at around 4 pm a lot of people leave to get ready to go to a restaurant. So the floaters are free then. The Flowrider you pay at the front desk, and they give you a wristband(bad tan line from that) that the operators see, and let you use it. Apparently they limit how many regular guests a day, the starclass might have it all included. Tuesdays and Thursdays are 2for1 tickets. The hotel is all by itself. You can ask the bellhop at the front, and he can get you a taxi or premium driver, we did that, and the premium driver drove us to the mercado 28 (local souvenir area), and waited for 2 hours and drove us back. you can negotiate with the driver on the rates.
Thanks for the detailed review and video!! Much appreciated. Quick question you might have an answer to. Me and my wife are currently looking at book our vacation here.. we do like adult only resorts and prefer them but unfortunately the adult scene side is booked up during the time we would like to go so if we decided to stay here it would have to be on the family side. If we stay on the family side are we still able to lounge around on the adult side? In the pool areas? Can’t find a specific answer would appreciate your knowledge. Thanks
Yes, as long as you're an adult no one will bother you. My wife and I went over to the adult side and swam around many times. Kids are a no no but adults are fine.
@@chosen8477 As far as I know or how I ever understood it, if you're an adult you're ok to swim in the adult section. If the area is designated as Star Class and you're not a Star Class visitor, then no. Star Class pools are exclusive to Star Class visitors.
Loved the video, we are wanting to go in December. How is the alcohol selection do you have be a star member to get good alcohol? Also, Do you need to do reservations for the restaurants?
Hi and thank you for that. As I understand, star class gets you the top shelf alcohol. Not sure how you can get top shelf without it. The drinks are great here - we had no complaints. Restaurant reservations are a must, in my opinion. With our star class we had an assigned "butler" that took care of that for us. Each day or so we'd tell him where we wanted to eat on which day and he took care of that. I'm told without the reservations, the lines and wait times for the restaurants are crazy!
@Silvia Hoard Hi! There are DJs that pop up at all of the pools at various times of the day. Typically you'd start hearing DJ music in the afternoon - 1 - 2pm or so. This would go on until the pool closed for the night or if an event in that pool was to take place.
I don't want to mislead you. I honestly don't recall. When we booked the trip we asked for the best of the best and basically ticked pretty much every box. We usually do this for any resort we visit. So I'm not sure what the price difference is. I do remember it being small. There wasn't a HUGE difference in going star class vs non star class.
Amazing, we loved it. To be honest, we loved pretty much everything we had here. And we only "liked" the hibachi place. It was OK at best. Everything else was amazing.
Thanks so much for this! Do you have to be an adults-only group in order to do Star class? We have a 5 year old daughter and so dinner reservations would be nice. We eat early (5-6p). Thanks for any insight!
Hi! Nope, last time we went we traveled with my 2 teenage daughters and preteen nieces. We were all star class. No age restriction there - everyone can enjoy!
@@anniehubers6815 The slides and lazy river are for everyone, regardless of their membership level. However, there are star class reserved POOLS you may enjoy. They have less people in them and will have their own swim up bar which is nice!!
@@anniehubers6815 For this I cannot honestly answer. only because I never traveled here and not taken advantage of the star class program. My guess is you wouldn't pay for what they offer. But if you wanted top shelf items, then you'd most likely have to pay.
That's the rumor we're hearing as well. Someone posted a pic of 2 or 3 dozen floats stacked up behind one of the buildings. They looked new. So I'm guessing they're going to restock the lazy river soon. That's good!
I'm staying here in a few weeks. Because of your video I think I want to do star class. Do you mind sharing how much it is if you remember? I can't find the fee anywhere n the site (I might be looking in the wrong place)
Hi and thanks for watching! Honestly I wouldn't be able to tell you. For the 2 times we were here we just automatically booked star class. We didn't compare the price difference. I can honestly tell you though that with star class I believe we got an upgraded room and we had a butler which took care of all of our dinner reservations. That was great!!! And we had a big discount on the cabana we rented.
The usual water volleyball games, water basketball, etc .. every day they'd have a different sport or activity. Sometimes it was exercise, sometimes just fun game show type games that all took place in the pool
During the week I was there I didn't see anyone play beach volleyball. Not that it helps, but earlier in the summer we were at the Royalton in Cancun and we saw people play beach volley ball every single day. It was so popular at that resort.

Hey sir. I am getting married at planet Hollywood in December and have some questions for you if you don’t mind. I’ve watched all your videos on this resort and they are awesome! Is there anyway to comment privately? This is my first time ever commenting on anything so not familiar with it. Thanks!
We have our cocktail hour at the sunset terrace but it doesn’t state where that is within the resort. Where is the sunset Terrence? With starclass can you make reservations for the week or do you have to do it each morning? Is it the same for non starclass guests? Are the dress codes enforced where I need long pants and closes toed shoes for non buffet restaurants? Trying to buy out the cabanas at the main pool for a day. Is it just the six at the main pool or are there more? Thanks!!!!
@@mikehusen5255 I believe that terrace is above the restaurants, no? I could be wrong... When we were there, we made reservations for the entire week in one shot. Then if we wanted to, we'd adjust them daily. I never wore long pants. I always wore dress shorts, shoes, and a button down. But never long pants. I have seen others come in more casual and I never saw anyone kicked out. The cabanas are limited. I believe you are correct, less than 10. So yeah, most likely just the six.
Thanks for review on this resort any idea on how much the arcade room is for 1 day pass for teens? Also how many ala carts dinners are we allowed on a 7 day stay without star class?
@@loseto61 I'm sorry I honestly don't. When my kids and nieces went to the arcade we just loaded their cards up with money so they could play all evening Both times we stayed here we did the star class program so we never saw a bill for anything during our stay.
It's funny you say this. I agree. I've been here 2x and the staff at this Japanese restaurant is completely different from the rest of the resort staff. We were here 2 weeks ago. We watched the hibachi show and ate. When the chef walked off I approached and gave him his tip. From across the room, the lady that was filling out glasses with Walter runs over. "What about me? Give me money!" I didn't know what to say. I just smiled, sat down, and signaled to my wife and family that it was time to wrap it up Even the front staff that takes your reservation was very cold. As if we were bothering them when we showed up. Everywhere else on the campus was great though!

Thanks so much for this! Do you have to be an adults-only group in order to do Star class? We have a 5 year old daughter and so dinner reservations would be nice. We eat early (5-6p). Thanks for any insight!
Also, are there any slides/lazy River that are only for Star class guests? It looks like 1 restaurant is adults only.. is that correct? Thanks again!
Last question: if you are NOT star class, are there menu items and/or alcohol that you have to pay extra for?
Great review. I'd read on Facebook that someone vandalised the pool floats one night!
That's the rumor we're hearing as well. Someone posted a pic of 2 or 3 dozen floats stacked up behind one of the buildings. They looked new. So I'm guessing they're going to restock the lazy river soon. That's good!
@Silvia Hoard Absolutely! Both times we were there, never had any issues.
How’s the water sports activities?
The usual water volleyball games, water basketball, etc .. every day they'd have a different sport or activity. Sometimes it was exercise, sometimes just fun game show type games that all took place in the pool
Thanks so much! Very helpful! We go dec 2!
You're very welcome! And congrats you're going to love it here!!!
My sons love beach volleyball. Does anyone play there during the day?
During the week I was there I didn't see anyone play beach volleyball.
Not that it helps, but earlier in the summer we were at the Royalton in Cancun and we saw people play beach volley ball every single day. It was so popular at that resort.
It worth going to this place alone as a vacation?
You will positively have fun here. However, if I were to travel solo, I'd sooner go here - th-cam.com/video/DVaWWLwEVHg/w-d-xo.html
We were here about a year ago and it was awesome!
@@JaysDMC thank you for the advice!
@@wamsam21 you're welcome! I hope you found it helpful.
Hey sir. I am getting married at planet Hollywood in December and have some questions for you if you don’t mind. I’ve watched all your videos on this resort and they are awesome! Is there anyway to comment privately? This is my first time ever commenting on anything so not familiar with it. Thanks!
Hi Mike. Happy to answer any questions you may have here. Let me know.
Thank you sir!
Any Idea if there is a fee for the arcade room
Yes. You load a card up with $$$ so you can play games and go on the trampoline.
Thanks for review on this resort any idea on how much the arcade room is for 1 day pass for teens? Also how many ala carts dinners are we allowed on a 7 day stay without star class?
@@loseto61 I'm sorry I honestly don't. When my kids and nieces went to the arcade we just loaded their cards up with money so they could play all evening
Both times we stayed here we did the star class program so we never saw a bill for anything during our stay.
Staff and the restaurants were pretty good, except for the Japanese restaurant :)
Give me money!"
I didn't know what to say. I just smiled, sat down, and signaled to my wife and family that it was time to wrap it up
Even the front staff that takes your reservation was very cold. As if we were bothering them when we showed up.
Everywhere else on the campus was great though!
Food is amazing..just stay away from building 22
I agree about the food! What was your issue with building 22? I've stayed in 24 and recently was in 22. We loved it!
100th
YAY!!!
