thanks a lot for these two videos. Yesterday I built in my MG4 a Viofo A129 Duo and with your description it was like a homerun! Everything is functional now. I needed just 1 to 2 hours. At beginning I bought everything you need also for build in. It's wondeful! Thanks again and have fun with your dashcam! And greetings from Germany!
@@TomsManShed It would've been useful if they had. I made the same mistake and decided to find out what it was. I measured battery voltage between it and the chassis, that's when I followed the wiring diagrams siteguru had linked from the MG EVs forums and found there was a 12V feed from the front fusebox to the interior fusebox
Only just seen this vid as I’m looking into an MG4, I used to watch your 3D printing vids for the CR6-SE which were very informative. I had the same issue when I got my VIOFO A129 ~4 years ago. You actually don’t need to plug into the base, you plug into the main camera unit and that powers the GPS base. I think the power into the GPS base was for some of the much older dashcam models.
Hi Callum..thanks for the kind words. Re the base....you do need to plug the power supply to the base if you want GPS location info on the clips. It's the base that contains the GPS chip...and they do seem to break down often...I have had 3. The cam will still work with the power supply plugged directly to it (as I am using now because am fed up replacing faulty bases) but it wont record any GPS info...just time and date etc.
@@TomsManShed hi Tom, I was able to display gps info on my A129 camera when powered from the camera, not from the base, this also seems to be backed up in the Q&A section of the VIOFO website for the gps mount. Could it be an issue within the camera itself that is affecting your gps module?
Hi, thanks a lot, i was pulling my hair trying to figure out a switch +12v on the mg4. Now i know where and i need the fuse double plug thing (ordered) and i can ( hopefully ) finish my project. Thanks again.
Hi Antonio...Thanks for the comment...I don't know if an aftermarket module can be fitted to close the windows. Before going EV I had a Ford Focus ST3 and you could close the windows via the key fob and it's a feature I miss on the MG Hope I understood your question correctly from the translation.
Hi Tommy...yes I suppose they could (like Teslas) but the problem is that the built in cams on the car are for traffic sensing etc and the rear cam is placed to help with parking and not in an ideal position or field of view for footage of drivers behind like a dashcam is....one day though it will be standard on all cars I reckon.

Both very detailed videos, brilliant !.
Jeff.
Thanks again Jeff
Thank you! Greetings from Germany!
Danke für den Dank, das weiß ich zu schätzen
That connection you thought was an earth but wasn't is the 12V feed from the front fusebox!
Thanks for that...useful to know...you would think with it being live they would have put a plastic cover over it hence me thinking it was an earth

Hello, MG hs model gasoline vehicle is 2022 model, what is the fuse type? Micro 2?
Sorry I don't know what fuse sizes are on that model.
@@TomsManShed thanx
it make no sense, Why MG has chosen not to use the onboard cam for DASHCAm and/or Alarm. i do hope that will come in time.
