Magoulas, you did a damn good job. I can only agree with my colleagues here: Why didn't MG include this as an extra and optional on their list. The trunk is overall the biggest drawback on this vehicle, far too heavy but there is room for your solution. Thank you for your time to document it, stay tuned and hope there are some more ideas that no one expects so quickly!

Awesome job! Looks very complicated for a novice like me. Hey, can you provide a link to where this kit can be purchased from. I am in Australia and have the same MG4 (only Right Hand Drive)

Hi Magoulas, hello from Malaysia. Fantastic video. I love it. I have watched it so many times I am now confident I could DIY the installation of the electric tailgate. One thing though, the installation of the kick sensor - removing the rear bumper looks daunting. Would it still work if the sensor is placed inside the rear end of the boot?

      Thank you!
I have never tried this so I can not answer this question. But the bumper is easy to take off.Do not be afraid to take it apart.
The cars are made from pieces 🙂.

You're back!! This IS what I wish the MG4 had stock.. I doubt I can even start to work on that mod though... but given your mods I'm sure you're good to go. Btw where did your sub woofer go ? I could not see it when you opened up the trunk, I can only see your amp now
Where is the link to the kit also please?
Oh and bless your gf/wife for sticking through all this time to record this footage
Edit: Nevermind not the gf this time haha XD
Question: Would any of these steps change if it was a left hand drive (UK) MG4 ? And is there any alternative to drilling and using the rivets? I do not have this rivet where I live :(

      Hi !!!!
The subwoofer is out because I sold the box to a very nice guy!I also built his sound system! Now I will upgrade mine little bit more.
      My girlfriend is a hero!
I do not think is there anything different in the right hand drive just make sure if the fusebox is still at the left side!
If you do not have rivets you can just make o hole with a screw and a nut. Just make sure you put some paint and silicone so is not rusting 🙂.

  • @hwaccessories

it is supposed to be a plug and play tailgate kit and you've made it more complicated than it should be. have you read the fitting instructions supplied by the manufacturer? firstly, don't drill any holes through metal, it is not needed! factory warranty is gone if you do that!... secondly don't need to cut any wires... thirdly, never tap to the fuse box like the way you did and why did you run the power cord to the battery? This is not the way recommended by the manufacturer. too much prep work and you are like dismantling the new car and you don't have to remove the bumper to fit the kick sensor. And by the way this is one of the cheap low quality tailgate kits and kick sensor on the market, there are better options, at least with no drilling thru metal.
And you don't test the anti pinch system like that.. It's not a Tesla. Honda CR-V has sensor strips along the edges. To test this kit, you can stand under the tailgate when closing, it hits your head or shoulder, and it will stop and retract.

      @@hwaccessories Hi there.
Yes this is a cheap kit with no instructions included.
This is how I did the installation.
For anyone doing a DIY install check with the kit supplier regarding the warranty.
I recommend to be installed by the dealership to avoid any warranty issues from Mg

@@magoulasfabrications7766 I haven't fitted one yet to the MG4 but I do have a fitting instruction from the supplier for MG4 (seems to be the same one that you've got with a golden control box). The instruction is written in both chinese and english.
Yes you are right, please consult MG regarding warranty if DIY.
