Hey Fed. It's been a minute since your last video. Hoping all is well with you. Thank you for your content over the years. I've gained a lot from your knowledge and enthusiasm
I will say this about my modern Cartier Santos. The lack of a screw down crown doesn’t bother me one bit. But the actual grip on the crown does. When I pick up my watch, I want to be able to wind it a few times to get it going, and make sure I’ve got the mainspring coiled a bit before I throw it on my wrist. The Cartier crown, while handsome as all hell, is not the most practical. It’s tough to grip.
But I think that really relates to what the first question is asking. He’s saying, there’s no screw down crown on a this watch. The Cartier Santos, isn’t really a tool watch. It doesn’t NEED a screw down crown, but it achieves a 100M water resistance anyway.
All this to say, this is why the Santos is one of the most perfect watches to me. Historically, it’s important. And historically, it should be considered a “tool watch” and perhaps even, the first tool watch. But also, Cartier’s classic roman numeral dial makes it a dress watch. If I want a casual watch, I keep it on the bracelet. If I want a dress watch, I throw it on the leather.
In short, to answer the first question… yes, just get the Cartier Santos. You absolutely will not regret it.
Great points!
I love my 2 tone large Santos!
It's getting more wrist time than my Rolexes.
There’s a NYC, USA-based microbrand called Stella Watches that makes linen dial watches.
40x20 and 12mm thick. Date at 3, STP and Sellita movements, really cool box dome sapphire. Leather straps. About $1k.
I have their Stella Felix model and the lightplay is unbelievable. They have a few different models and colorways.
I promise I’m not from the company, just a fan of something cool trying to answer one of Fed’s questions
The King Seiko SPB369 has a lovely linen dial, beautiful watch too.
Fed rocking them Miami Hurricanes colors
Stella Watch Company is producing stunning linen dials.
4:00 OUCH! man, be careful there's like 10K on your wrist 😆
Good morning from Kuwait 😊😊😊😊. I own a Santos Gray black dial and bezel, it has 100 M WR… amazing watch
I’ll take that Moser
For folks that are interested, there are a few modern Omega De Ville Tresor models that have linen adjacent dials
The oyster quartz is my all time favorite Rolex, hands down. It’s something about that genta esq styling, along with the massive amounts of engineering and development that went into creating that movement. Even the movement itself is something I admire, it’s quartz, but it still retains some of the same drive train elements as a mechanical……..for a modern variant, I feel like the prx gives a lot of that visual appeal the oyster quartz did. So I’m glad it’s on the market
Totally agree. Super cool watch. I own a few mechanical watches but I love a well made quartz watch.
JLC is sublime classic casual, dress and great for a nightcaps in a five star hotel bar..
Thanks for hitting my question - always a great show. you’re the man.
Thanks for reassuring Santos owners, in regards to water resistance and lacking a screw down crown.
I love my 2 tone large model.
Regarding the Oysterquartz, I'm currently waiting to get mine back from Rolex Canada. They've essentially refused to service it unless the crown and hands get replaced, which is a bummer, but I'd rather have it functional instead of just be a paperweight. Total will be around $2,067 CAD plus taxes. They offered to replace the heavily patina'd dial for an additional $500 but I immediately said no :) I need that mojo!
Omega de Ville Tresor has a blue linen dial
The 16570 is a great choice for an everyday watch, that won't also catch a lot of eyes.
I agree. I love mine more than I thought I would. They look a bit bland in pictures but in the metal on wrist it’s just right for me. It gets more wrist time than my 16713 Root beer.
@@thatguy6111 Agree, I have mine on a white rubber B, always a go to Summer watch.
It’s the Rolex for watch people .. most other Rolex for numpties
I love you but I have to ask. What tf is up with the scars on your hands? If it were just one, I’d assume it was an accident. But, it’s both and in the same place on each.
the Breguet Classique belongs with Rolex Sub and Cartier Tank as one of the true iconic watch designs. i absolutely love it !
I have a green dial large Santos. Love that the dial appears green sometimes, black other times, depending on time of day and lighting conditions. Awesome watch and bracelet. And looks even dressier on the green alligator strap.
Great video. May be out of context but what do you think of the new "Moser X Undefeated" Wall Clock released 2 days ago for around 4K USD?
Black bay 54 then spend the rest on travels with an awesome watch!
Fed, I get my Oysterquartz President Serviced at Rolex Service Center Dallas. Never had a problem with wait times or links or anything of that matter. I think this is more of a misnomer than a reality respectfully. They even replace the battery free of charge.
On the linen dial question, there was a recently discontinued Tudor Prince Date mosaic dial which looked very similar to linen
King Seiko makes a modern linen dial. It’s quite nice.
Micro brand Stella has a few dials with Linen texture.
Would think that a "watch industry guy" would know that it's 'juh-jher', not 'yayger'
Screw down crown: The one time a watch of Mine fell on the floor, it was a Zenith without screwdown crown. It fell on the crown and because of the damage inside the repair cost were 800eur.
Linen dials - Jack Mason watches have a gold and green linen dials the Ellum model. Only one I know of that makes them today.
Just saw some of the inventory you guys have, full of dog 💩 watches, loll how are you in business
I've got a Santos and swim with it regularly and haven't had any issues so far. I would not be worried. I probably wouldn't take it scuba diving but regular swimming or snorkeling is fine.
As someone who swims and wears watches … I never understood why people wear watches while swimming. Can you explain the logic?
@@Sovnarkom I like to know the time
I don’t usually talk to the Feds but all make an exception here
I met an owner of restaurant in Lecce Italy that looks like he could be a cousin of yours
Keep up the good work
As I prepare for yoga camp in the region before returning to Toronto
Unfortunately
I have a Cartier Santos… I live in Hawaii - would I go swimming with it on? Are you crazy? Who swims with a watch like that! Would I do dishes, heck, take a shower, even jump into the pool forgetting I have the Santos on? Yep… but not when I have the green gator strap! 😊
1. Oysterquartz looks amazing. Several people have had theirs with minimal/no issues. Just gasket and battery replacements.
2. Breguet is a beautiful piece but the 40 mm size with such narrow bezel may look quite larger on the wrist esp for a dress warch.
We will always watch Federico, even if it's not really practical to purchase from the UK. But I do miss some of his more analytical videos. I guess time is short and the days long in business. But Fed holding forth at greater length is so instructive and devoid of BS. And as a secondary watch dealer he is absent of dubious sponsorship and fellow travelling. He has inventory and opinions. It's perfectly clear and straight up. We could take more...
Absolutely love the Moser choice For under 10 grand!
Gooood morning, Fed, from Hell’s Kitchen NYC!
Keep up the great work.
I have great respect for JLC, but this look like an Invicta :D Great content. Keep up the good work.
JLC Polaris automatic $ 9,550.....
For less that 10k id go with the Blancpain 50f bathyscaphe
Yes!
What da best heavy hitter for up in da Club?
I had a Rolex OQ serviced at Rolex NY during the pandemic. I had no issue in having it overhauled.
The Patek 4947 1/A has a linen dial and it's currently in production, beautiful piece!
wellit will be five frugal years before i can do a reasonably priced patek; ittakes stubborn saving i guess
The green Moser w orange rubber combo=sick Miami Hurricanes combo!
The best under $10k: Omega waive dial all day. This watch does it all. I play sports (tennis and golf) wearing mine and it also a great travel watch; you will not get mugged when you travel abroad.
Thank you so much sir, I appreciate it.
@federicoTalksWatches
Why does no one talk about Carl F Bucherer? I think they own or are associated with Rolex. But no one talks about them or rates them. Can you enlighten us with a little history and ranking of Carl F. Bucherer watches compared to other tiers? Thanx.
Rolex bought Bucherer
You look like a swimmer. I knew it!
Oh man that Jeager Navy Seal….
Hello, Federico, from Illinois!
I am poor
Great video
Love mamacoo the way you show it! You really focus on showing off the watch. I don't think any other TH-camr can show off watches in as much detail as you.
Love the show. Hate that JLC. Looks like an Invicta
