I bought a watch from MaMaCoo lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
I was also thinking a Hamilton (and staying well under $1000 for reasons best left unsaid), but as this is for a wedding, I was thinking something a bit dressier, like a Jazzmaster Viewmatic or maybe a Tissot Visodate. The Visodate skews a little dressier but has the better movement in it, where the Jazzmaster has the more attractive dial imo and is more versatile. He should also be sesitive to whether his groomsmen want the upkeep on an automatic. They may very well want the set it and forget it virtue of quartz (the quartz Visodate is also a better looking dial imo).
If someone gave me that Louis Vuitton watch, I would flip it immediately and buy something with some real class and horological history....like Hugo Boss quartz 😂😂😂😂😂
I remember when the Aquanaut first came out. I heard that name and I thought “awesome, PP is finally making their first foray into the dive watch market!” Then I saw their joke of a water resistance rating and wondered how in the hell does a brand have a name that strongly suggests “diving watch” that could only actually go diving in its wildest dream!
Patek stated that all its water resistance watches are now rated to 30m and that this means that they can be used for swimming and even diving down to 30m. I think this is Patek trying to make its non-sports watches comparatively more attractive by emphasizing that they mean it when they say “30m”, and it’s not just code for “splash-proof” (like it is for Lange).
This is correct here is the press release from Patek regarding the topic: Unified criteria for water-resistance To ensure the homogeneity and clarity of the information provided to clients, Patek Philippe has decided to introduce a new unified standard of water-resistance set at 30 meters for all watches certified as water-resistant -having been tested in air and underwater by immersion at an overpressure of 3 bars (corresponding to a depth of 30 m). This measure makes it possible to guarantee the same performance level across all the models concerned and to provide perfectly comprehensible information as to the day-to-day activities in which clients can engage while wearing their watch: washing their hands, showering, bathing, swimming and other aquatic activities, including diving to a depth of 30 m - which corresponds in large measure to actual utilization.
I love that GP Evo 3, Fed. The white dial is where it's at. Prices remain higher than I think they should be for that model, but I hope to acquire one in the near future.
Amazing value in the 2000's Panerai right now! Though I would agree with Fed on the 40mm sizing being too small... unless you're very slight of wrist. I've picked up a number of PAM's from the era over the past couple of year, and they are outstanding. Even several precious metal pieces selling for a trivial premium over stainless.
The 40mm Panerai’s from the early 00’s are bold. First, they’re pretty thick (they house the 7750) so they stand proud of the wrist. Second, the square case wears larger. Finally, on a person with a smaller frame or narrow wrist, they offer a ton of presence. It’s like fitting a shirt. If you’re 5’6” for example, you’re not wearing an XL. It’s all relative to the size of the person wearing the shirt. Same goes for a watch.
Buy a Tandorio, it's less than a hundred bucks, works and looks great and if it goes down in value, all you can lose is a hundred bucks..!! It's a no brainer...!!! 😊
Hey Fed, actually the new LV tambours are for sale by order only, 3 months wait, they re really nice and they are making a real effort to turn around the brand
@ 2:55 Oh please! You're only propping it up because you have one on inventory and are desperate to sell. That watch is ugly as sin and if it's true that LV sold out on them, it means people apparently have a lot of spare cash but ZERO taste. If you like it, more to you I guess. Besides, you probably bought it for pennies on the dollar anyways so let's hope you do as you say and keep it!
I used to (still do) really like the 40mm PAM51. White dial (which I know the ‘purists’ hate) and the original style bracelet which is ‘shiny’ and has the raised ‘half oval’ centre links. Something about those 40mm PAM’s drew me to the brand.
I love the Central Second Boutique edition with Arabic numerals but overall I think that the Zenith Captain is a very classy, understated range of watches.
About the Panerai movements : at that point, the Valgranges or "7750 without the chrono" were quite new and they were a good way to increase diameter for time only and time + date watches. The movement is wider that most automatic movements, the small seconds is far enough from the center to fit in well with the proportion of a 40+mm watch, the movement is generally sturdy as it pretty much only has one bridge. You still see it in use today for these reasons. Tag re-labelled it and used it in some no-complication Carreras, Chopard used it in the time-only Mille Miglia.
And easy to match to the wedding’s color theme if there is one. The Tsuyosa from Citizen also fills the bill. Modern, tasteful and reliable. Both are more versatile than the Khaki.
