  • One of the biggest menswear and fashion trends right now is the shacket. A shacket--sometimes called a shirt jacket or overshirt--is a hybrid between a shirt and a jacket, making it an optimal transitional piece of outerwear as we're going from winter to spring. In this video, I'm introducing you to the the shackets currently in the HSS Shop and showing you how to style a shacket five different ways. Enjoy!

PausePlay I agree. Perhaps this is now the evolution of professional office wear? Sans the suit and sport coat ensemble? Like part of the Smart Casual Outfit Template?
      Shirt Options:
      - OCBD White or Blue or White and Blue Stripes
      - Chambray Button-down collar shirt
      - Crewneck T-Shirt in Solid White or Solid Grey or Breton Stripes
      - Crewneck Sweaters in Burgundy or Petrol Blue
      - Grey Crewneck Sweatshirt
      - Cream Turtleneck
      Blazer/Sport alternative:
      - Overshirt (aka Shacket) that is in either Navy or Brown. Make sure the Overshirt has a jacket placket to the neck and not the same kind you would see on a button up shirt. The better design would be the CPO shirts so you can still wear it as an additional layer under a coat or parka in winter
      Bottoms Options:
      - Grey Wool Flannel Trousers
      - Tan Twill Chinos
      - Dark Denim Jeans (takes the role of a pair of navy chinos or trousers, as per the advice of Derek of Put This On blog)
      - Mid washed denim jeans
      - Off-white (non-blinding white) Denim Jeans
      Footwear:
      - White Leather Sneakers (like CPs)
      - Dark Brown Round Toe Euro style Penny Loafers with Dainite soles
      - Brown Leather Service Boots with Dainite Soles or Suede lace up ankle boots
      Outerwear for colder days:
      - Olive Parka
      - Navy Topcoat
      Accessories:
      - Sporty everyday watch like a diver on a stainless steel bracelet
      - Dressy Everyday watch on a leather strap
      - Brownline sunglasses

I love that linen herringbone in gray. It looks more “dressier” than the others. The safari shackets, especially the lighter colors, give off that Roger Moore era James Bond kind of vibe.

The shacket or shirt-jacket absolutely epitomises the very definition of casual chic menswear. A style in which you are relaxed, comfortable and sporty yet put together, refined and elegant. As we're all well aware that due to the pandemic the impetus is greatly shifted towards lounge attire, and as work from home has become a norm rather than an exception; people NEED a garment which is cozy, comfortable, unstructured and lounge appropriate yet professional and put together. They need a casual chic garment which is very much the dress code for most work from home outfits, and the shacket fits that bill perfectly if perfection ever existed, so I absolutely don't see it as a surprise that it has become a trend nowadays.

Wow! Been hearing about shackets for some time now, but I've never seen something as good looking as the ones you presented! I am quite fond of the safari jacket style, which apparently lends itself well to the shacket, but what really sets it apart from the others is the extra lenght and the ever so slightly tapered waist. Beautifil!

Hi Brian, fantastic vídeo as always. As a big proponent and uset of overshirts as a layering piece i just would like to point out something: i feel that an overshirt looses a lot of it's versatility when you have 4 pockets (safari configuration) instead of just 2 (workshirt configuration) -maybe that would be the difference beetwen shirt/jacket and plain overshirts, in wich case my rambling doesnt make sense, hehe-because you loose the alternative of tucking in the overshirt and use it as a substitute for knitwear/middle layer, and throw a sportcoat or Blouson on top of it when it gets colder. I guess what i'm trying to say is that overshirts are most versatile when you can use it as outerwear (untucked), middle layer (tucked in) or base layer (anyway) an layer on top of it or underneath according to temperature. Hell, you could even use a scarf and tuck it inside the overshirt if gets cold and it looks almost as a replacement for a tie

These shackets are so lovely but I think they'd probably suit a more mature audience. Shackets can be made even less formal and paired with just a T shirt jeans and white trainers. Also a personal favourite look of mine is combining shackets with turtlenecks. The materials can be very versatile also, obviously with spring coming up as said corduroy isn't an obvious choice but a lighter colour also helps fit the season

I noticed you rocking a JLC Reverso and the Vacheron Patrimony (what an incredible piece!). Do you think the rectangular shape of the JLC makes it unique enough to justify owning multiple traditional dress watches in a collection especially in 2021, where we as a society don't dress up as much, and trends are moving towards sportier pieces such as a Rolex DJ being able to serve as a dress watch?

Could not agree more. I have a belstaff trialmaster panther (take home piece from a shoot, I'm too poor to buy it myself) and a run-of-the-mill cotton corduroy safari jacket and even next to one another they look like they cost the same price. Also, because of its similarity to a shirt, you can have one made well and for little money in places like Thailand and even here in India. We men are given so few opportunities for embellishment, and the buttons are the way sieze one. A cheap safari jacket kitted out with some decent buttons from a craft store (horn and bone) and you'll look like $100k.
YOUNG GUYS: always remember, suede is cheaper to make and buy but more expensive to own. If you want that look plus durability at a low price, get a good Corduroy (pinwale).

How can I create a unique outfit? The ideas I like are already taken. For example, I want to wear a black t-shirt with a black or charcoal suit. But, Maury Povich has already done it and copying other people's outfits causes me to feel bad. I can't find my style because all the styles I like have already been done. I like t-shirts with suits and dark colors. There's many other outfits I like but can't wear them because someone else has already worn it and being a copycat isn't what I desire to transform into. Please tell me advice and opinions regarding what I should do.
