I profoundly miss the good days of gwent beta. The top tier content creators, and joy that community fostered. You were a pillar of that and I am glad to still get my nostalgia feels through your snap videos. It’s not the same, but it is a comforting alternative.
I was so grateful when Freddy did that series on the fan remake of beta, I joined the project since, nostalgia stonks. But I admit it's not the same without the tournaments and the streamers :/
Gwent is the one and only card game that i ever played, other game just seems overwhelming and unnecessarily complicated. The reason i play Gwent is because of my love for the Witcher. And wow! Its simple and really fun, the art is just stunning and the best part, its F2P friendly. Its sad to see it gone Its not gonna stop me though, I'll keep playing
Gwent was awesome. I loved longer games, completely different approach to resource management, stunning art. Fingers crossed for community keeping it alive.
I will say this without a shadow of doubt, but Gwent at it's peak was, and still is, best card game I ever played. I am enjoying Snap but some of these new foul monetization practices are making me wanna quit. Gwent was never like that. If you needed certain card, with a bit of grind you could get it. But,,sadly, card games are very competitve market and HS (for reasons beyond my comprehension) is still on top. I mourn Gwent's passing I really do.
@@DarkSpells87 MTG and YGO both have online video card games lil bro aka Yu Gi Oh Master Duel and Magic the Gathering Arena what planet are you living on?
Sad times, Gwent definitely earned a place in card game history and influenced other games so it's heritage will live on. Thanks for that recap Freddy!
Gwent was beautiful. I love the community as much as the game itself. I sunk soo many hours into it and I can happily say I’ll never regret one second off it (even the Kolgrim games)
Love you freddie ❤ thx for your gwent videos. :) Gwent is really fun to play right know. Coming back from time to time play a while get to pro rank leave it and come back again after a bit is really nice 😊
I wish they could release the beta as a free expansion or mode, I recently came back to gwent and yeah, I'm having a hard time adjusting but now hearing that it's actually going to get dropped is very saddening. I'm still gonna play but it sure is an end of a special era.
Thanks Freddy. I've played more Gwent than any game I've ever played and got better at it than I could ever dream I could be at a game. Sadly, like so many others, homecoming sapped all the fun away from me. I held out for maybe 6 months, but it didn't get good again quick enough and I left. Never to return. Really appreciate this summary. I still won't be re-joining the community as (like you) I don't feel the fun will be worth the time investment, but I'm somehow pleased to see it returned to a good place before it died for good. I do and will continue to miss your videos, as I'm more of a casual gamer, so investing the time to know every move in another card game just isn't for me (even if that game has significantly shorter win/lose times). Gwent just enthralled me like nothing else.
Yesterday I opened Shinmiri stream on Twitch and asked how the games is doing and he said, it's actually good, the community is still great. It was nice to hear that.
I don't think I'll ever like any other card game more than Gwent To the point that after the announcement I got disheartened, stop playing and haven't looked back Lol
The game is still super fun, and Gwentfinity looks to retain a dedicated following and player base, with ever-changing meta from community balancing. There is no need to be disappointed or leave the game!
Now I remember why you aren’t invited to marvel snap twitch rivals 😂 Gwent was an amazing game deep strategy and skill. I just took a break from it at some point (was my main game) and never went back
Gwent definitely ruined its niche with homecoming. It was the one card game that was fast, do to only having one active input per turn and no potential additional abilities slogging down the game. Manual ending of turns alone probably doubled the average game length. Another good example are the leader animations, that nobody cares about but take a good moment to fire for no reason. I think a good shake-up of the structure and meta of the game with a homecing-esque update would've been good, but it should never have sacrificed its speed. I stil think it's okay, but it destroyed what gave it appeal with that update.
Gwent was great during Beta until they've changed the entire game and all the big streamers left the game. I miss playing it but CDPR didn't know how to monetize it properly.
I absolutely loved Gwent on the Witcher 3. But I couldn’t get into Thronebreaker: the Witcher tales, I loved the OG Gwent too much that when they changed it I couldn’t jive with it. I actually never tried out this Gwent game. It looks cool though
Meanwhile you play on all ranks against experienced players. This makes it difficult to climb. Also it‘s hard to find a dominating list for an easy climb.
I feel this. Pre homecoming post midwinter every deck had a viable deck and I would play every faction. I loved deck building and knew every card in the game. After homecoming I just never could get back into it 😊
As someone that played and enjoyed beta version, believe Homecoming definitely needed to happen, but as you said, it needed to be much closer to what Gwent was after the first 2-3 expansions. I definitely think they were way too generous for too long, especially in regards to Premiums, which are still hands down the best looking cards in any online CCG. Even without those mistakes, I'm still not certain Gwent would have avoided it's current fate, for a number of reasons that you mentioned, ie complexity and long matches. Biggest one to me is, the card game market is just not that big, and there's a ton of competition, so finding a niche is tough. Even though I don't care for Snap, their design around quick games was super smart. I think LoR is in exactly the same spot Gwent was, Riot has already reduced staff on it, though they are willing to keep it going for the time being. Anyways, good video, I have some good memories playing Gwent, definitely the most fun I've had playing a card game.
Gwent and LoR dont/didn't suffer as much from being f2p friendly as people like to believe A serious major factor is the balance issues, after pretty much every single expansion in both games balance was terrible. Beyond op decks got created But the worst part is those decks stuck around for far too long, usually months. Got barely touched and were still dominating the meta for another few months When the meta is stale and busted from day 1 even expansion days which are usually the height of playerbases people won't stick around Both of these games just took far too long to fix things again and again which won't keep players around Other card games were far quicker at that
If anyones interested in playing the older version of the game before homecoming theres videos on my channel showing gameplay and directing you how to play! :) ( if this isn't okay freddy you can delete my comment.)
Nope, completely deserved. Bad management decisions, lack of relevant communication (there was A LOT of communication but most of it didn't have any consequences whatsoever) and inability to set priorities in development (most notably the switch to 2 lanes which afaik was influenced by the Thronebreaker development and that game didn't even sell well) are among the most impactful breaches that ultimately sunk that galley. Good riddance, Gwent, I played you almost since the very beginning and most of the time and money spent I consider now wasted.
What an awful title for the video. If you don't play doesn't mean it is dead. Just to justify something for your video. Game will go on and peoole will play it simple as that
@@awsometomato1825 no new cards, no balance updates. Instead the community gets a voting tool that ends up doing a handful of minor balance changes (only single points or provisions) each month automatically.
Even though its a shadow of itself, I still hop in every other month or so for a few games and have a decent time. I dont care about playing "Meta" decks I just find those that I have fun with. I still like reading the card descriptions. What I hate most about it is they added way too many weird tags to cards that are almost useless, I still dont understand really how the fucking Nilfagard cultists work
