This episode ripped my heart into a bunch of tiny pieces. Pedro’s acting was so good in this. Absolutely wrecked me. And that end! Oof. There needs to be a cross over where Ellie and Grogu meet and Joel and Din meet and it’s absolute chaos while the adults just talk about the struggles of protecting kids. It’s funny because both dad figures are played by the same actor. But it could be maybe a multiverse kind of situation?

Everyone saying to leave the bat in the wound are forgetting that he has to ride on a horse to escape. Having that still in the wound and then bouncing around on the horse would cause so much more damage inside. It's better to remove the bat and apply pressure to stop the bleeding then to cause more damage inside by leaving it in. Another main rule for impalement wounds is to NOT MOVE when the object is inside you to avoid causing more damage. Sometimes you gotta choose the better of bad options and bleeding is easier to control then internal damage.
It ended up being better to take the bat out for the reasons you said, but also because puncture wounds from wood are crazy likely to get infected. Bacteria and other tiny nasties love to hang out in wood and jump to other things.
You know it's filmed in Canada when Graham Greene is in it. Awesome actor.
Sucks TH-cam took this down because of a 1 to 3 seconds of a theme in the show. Hopefully they get their shit together in the future

I asked myself what did Tommy tell Maria about Joel, and why did he have to tell her anything about Joel, especially negative things? Tommy admitted to Joel that he killed people too, so he is not so innocent. He's not a bad guy, but it seems he certainly wasn't worried about Joel's welfare, although Joel risked his life and Tess died early on in their mission to find Tommy. All in all, it's a sad story.

5. To reiterate previously, a very strong episode.
It was awesome seeing Tommy and Maria in live-action. If idiots have a problem with Maria being race-swapped, they can screw off. Also, I believe I saw Dina from Last of Us 2 in the dining hall. If you don't know who Dina is, look her up, since she's an important character.
6. I also loved seeing the live-action version of the famous argument scene between Joel and Ellie ("You have no idea what loss is"). It was just as beautiful and sad as it is from the game.
Plus, Joel's breakdown over failing to save Sarah was heartbreaking. I know hardcore fans will cry foul at that, because "that's not what Joel is about". If you truly understood Joel, you would love that aspect of the character even more. I bet you Pedro Pascal wins an Emmy for his acting here.
7. Also also, if you truly know Last of Us 1, Joel ain't dead. I promise you.
8. I'm excited for the live-action Left Behind DLC episode, especially finally seeing Riley. I also hope to see Ashley Johnson, aka the original Ellie, appear.

I love how in the heat of the moment, the characters of the Last of Us never feel anything. They get bitten, don't feel it. They get stabbed with a broken piece of baseball bat? don't feel it. They give effing birth and don't feel it...

I'm telling all of you right now because I am a front-line mental health worker. Do not and I repeat do not write this down and tattoo it on your forehead ever ever ever pull out an impaled object. I don't care if it's in your eye. You do not pull out an impaled object because you will bleed out. That's the only thing that's holding the blood inside to stop it from gushing out of your body. You have to pack the wound with gauze. When I saw him do that I went oh my God, that man is going to die. If you bleed through the gauze bandage, put another one on top of it. That wound will get infected, and then one will develop a fever if the wound isn't cleaned. Yes I know it's the Apocalypse, but these rules still apply. That's why people who are preparing for the Apocalypse are stocking up on medical supplies. He passed out from a combination of shock due to loss of blood, lowered blood pressure. 😢

The only real issue I had with this episode was the university. Like yeah, we're not gonna have Joel mow his way through like 20 guys like in the game, but they couldn't have had a shootout where he pops off a few of them? Show off that nice shooting they just showed with him teaching Ellie? And really? None of these fuckin guys had guns? And Joel was stupid enough to pull out the chunk of bat instead of leaving it in? It felt pretty weak after how iconic the whole "falling onto rebar" thing was in the game. Maybe less realistic or whatever, but they could've had the wound a little more to the side, or just a smaller spike stabbing him or whatever.
It was also a bit of a plot thing in the game. David's people were starving in large part because Joel took out most of their adult manpower, and they thought of him as this terrifying crazy man because he killed a bunch of them
