It doesn't quite have the hellacious engine/auto-transmission combo of the BMW M3 ( I owned the F80 from 2016-18) but I'd contend, for a car enthusiast, it does everything else better. I got a chance to test drive a 2022 M3 with the manual and it's a monster. Yet, I chose the BW over it because this is the better sports car of the two. Outside of that magical inline 6 engine, Cadillac has the better chassis, steering (not even close), braking, seats, gauges and suspension (again, not particularly close) when compared to the Bimmer. Most importantly, Cadillac's manual is better than the M3 and ultimately leads to a more robust driving experience. I love the M3 and wouldn't fault anyone for buying it. But I think it's been dethroned as the preeminent sports sedan by the BW. One last thing: this isn't loaded at 75k. I don't have all the Carbon Fiber options and I passed on a few more minor options that would have made my car closer to 81k. But if you don't need to have all the carbon fiber bits, you'll be in the 75k range with darn near everything.

Cadillac is as good as it's ever been right now, the chassis has been there for awhile and everything else is catching up. My friend's been working for Cadillac as a product trainer for a few months now, their management really shifted in 2017 and turned its back on a lot of the dumb things GM does that hobbles their brands. Not to say all the demons are exorcised, but most of them are. My friend sent me a vid of his bosses taking one of these over 180 on some empty interstate highway in Montana or Nevada or somewhere, it looked stable and it does those speeds...don't recommend repeating it but just saying that 189 MPH top speed is not a lie!
The Giulia is top dog in the chasiss department. This is right up there though. Both are far ahead of the competition imo. They are sharper and more engaging than the Germans.
@@MrSchn3ll The CT4's Alpha platform was developed in 2012. The CT4 is a phenomenal vehicle no doubt but the Giulia just has more character. Ig Cadillac management is turn ing its back on GM's buffoonery, why is the LT2 not offered in the 4VBW? These would sell like hotcakes if that were an offering. Having said that, I LOVE my ATS V. But I'd love it more with a factory installed LT1.

Was cross shopping between the M2 and the CT4V Blackwing and honestly it's the redline that killed it for me. I like high reving engines. Have actually never owned a car that's redline is below 7k and the 6,500 redline is criminal
The Blackwing's ecu has been cracked, so a tune for 7k is possible! But also, as a 4BW owner, I'll tell ya, the power band in squarely 3500-5500. Only reason to even get close to 6500 is for no-lift shift.

I saw a comparison of the CT5 Blackwing vs the BMW M5 CS. The Beemer crushed the CT5 off the line, but was actually slower around the track. Like you say, launch specs are not what is important.
@@Bad_Company666 the point is that it handles better. Driving through a twisty canyon road is way more fun than launching with AWD which involves almost no skill.
@@norwegianblue2017 Handles better? LOL, sure dude whatever you say. Would rather have my 2021 M3 Comp over the Cadi. If you think the only time the BMW "Crushes" that car is off the line, then go watch some more videos. You can have the track the .00005 percent time you decide to go. I’m glad you like your BMW, but it’s lost every comparison test to the CT4 I’ve seen, plus you spent another $20K on something uglier. P.S. From reviews I’ve heard, the last Accord V6 coupe was actually pretty sweet
You guys are exacting, and what an excellent, objective review. Though I’ve almost exclusively owned German manual transmission sports sedans, I’ve always wanted to buy a Cadillac but could never quite pull the trigger due to some unfortunate compromises (interior or packaging, etc)…but now, no more excuses. I’m glad to hear this manual CT4-V Blackwing is best in class. We’ll done Cadillac! One last ICE hoorah, and you nailed it!
I know it would probably have been unfeasible, but it would have been really cool if Cadillac put the LT2 in the ct4v blackwing. The LT2 weighs about the same as the engine in the ct4v blackwing and makes about the same power, but has the character of a small block V8.
I've heard a lot of people say that, and I wonder why GM didn't do it. I know GM has a storied history with turbo V6s but just imagine a blown LT2 in a car this small.
I'm surprised you compared the sound to a modern BWM inline. I have yet to hear one I like in the last 5+ years. This sounds amazing for a V6, which I normally dislike.
Very entertaining review! Nice to see that Cadillac is making better sedans than BMW, at least in this segment! My wife loved your “murdering vuvuzellas” analogy too (we had to listen to a vuvuzella TH-cam clip, as we’d forgotten how irritating they sound).
Awesome video guys, you two have Balls of Steel to drive that fast on public roads. I still have my 14 Fiesta ST tricked out with 98,000 miles on it, I’m on my 6th of tires, love driving on three wheels. The Fiesta Flash 🤙🏼🍺🍺🍺
Zack most brake by wire systems can actually provide nearly full braking capability even if the fluid is completely boiling... pretty much eliminating the concern of brake fade even on track
It's not about capability, it's about lack of feedback and driver confidence. These brakes can fade, and the driver doesn't know. It actually was one of the biggest thing C&D complained about the Blackwing at Lightning Lap.
I was literally looking for a comparison video for these this morning! So random and great you just uploaded this! I have an order in on a G80 M3 manual and wanted to see if this stacks up.
@@Boomtowndogs lol. Their sells earrings beg to differ mate. Cadillac has more to be worried about as they are not in the league as the premium German 3 brands.
U obviously haven't seen it with an aftermarket grill like the adro or vorstiner. Looks way more aggresive then this . Like the other comment said BMW is selling record numbers . So nice opinion
when I first heard about this car I thought they did a minor refresh on the ats-v and were being a little lazy on the engineering.. I was very wrong. the market's kind of broken in general but they are being particularly greedy on these things. I'd like one, but it's a little out of reach. found a mach 1 that I am picking up instead.. we have some great final hoorah's here for driver's focused ICE cars with some manuals. these are going to be very desirable for years to come.
Yes, great review! I disagree with their comments on the track mode. It’s not meant for the street at all…it’s for track. I have run mine on the track hard and it is for sure planted and gives me plenty of confidence to push the car HARDER than my ATSV. The issue they had on the drive modes is not user error…I had that too but it went away on its own. Other than that …super solid review! Sorry M3…Matt would chose the 4V Blackwing over you:)
I’ve got a 24 CT4 BW and the issue they had with the ESC/V Mode is supposed to be that way. It’s so you can lock in a mode and then toggle between traction modes on both the wheel and toggle.
I think it is something psychological but when you have the number 4 in the model name it looks/sounds cheap when you see it or hear it. I hope it doesn't turn people off because this thing is a beast.
The rear end styling and the sound are the only thing that would keep me from wanting this.. the ats v was better looking outside and this is had a better interior by far. Screw cue lol
In person the rear styling is much better, I promise. As for the sound, I love it. I prefer my old M2's exhaust my a tiny margin, but this has a very unique character I've come to adore.
as someone who has driven the new g80 m3 (both 6 speed and auto) and was disappointed with both, this looks like a great alternative. It's too bad there's not much Vs out there (southwest) to actually go look at let alone drive, hopefully this will change in the next coming months.
I agree with Matt that track setting for the suspension is too stiff, sport suspension is the best, and touring suspension is a bit wallowy and boatlike
FYI, the engine and transmission development was performed at the Holden Proving Ground at Lang Lang, Victoria, so there were a few floating around in Oz before they were all crushed or shipped back to USA. It's a great package. #I_Used_To_Work_For_GM
Really hope these come down about 15-20k used in a couple years. I'd love to have one in combination to an electric pickup truck. That plus track car = dream garage
They won’t, value on anything V holds high. My dad purchased the 2019 ATS-V that they used for sema in 2018 and they gave him a $1k discount because they put 20miles on it from driving in and out of show room floors for sema. My dad just put it back up for sale and he got 100% return on it + some extra cash.

They won't . You will have to wait until gas prices are so high that no one can afford to drive a non EV car, then these will be CHEAP. I just don't see these prices coming down since there won't be anything new that's interesting to replace it, ever.
It would still have the older Mag ride, smaller rear brakes, worse sounding induction and exhaust, and countless other small improvements. BUT, the ATS-V doesn't have a bad angle.
You guys pointed out why I'm against so much technology in the newer cars. The brakes that Zack mentioned which could be very dangerous and Matt mentioned the car getting stuck in said mode. And if it gets stuck in said mode odds are that the driver will try and fix it WHITE driving. I thought the V6 Mustang sounded great until Ford turned in into a rental car.
Would definitely choose this over the BMW M3 my only issue is the mark up price on this car .the dealers are insane just like everything else everything else out there so I would be more likely wait for a used One
Currently trying to decide between buying a used ats-v or leasing a ct4-v (non blackwing). Leaning towards the ats-v, but man I wish I could afford the blackwing!
Here's what sucks. My 2020 m340i xdrive is 11.9 at 116 dead stock and 11.4 122 e40 tune. But its boring to drive I want the ct4 blackwing but that much slower is a hard pill to swallow. I'm probably going to do it anyways and just get it.
Tune, drag radials and downpipes has already gotten an 10spd auto down to 11.1 at 127mph. This engine in the ATS-V has been known to do 600whp as a common recipe.
Are you regularly transporting adults in the rear seats? If so, Acura. If not, Blackwing. More cylinders, more turbos, more power, better shifter/clutch, and something very special/unique.
Not bad, but still the buggest area where the M3 is superior. S58 sounds better, much more powerful, and has better fuel economy. I want this chassis, with M3 engine and interior, and PDK 😅
Great review guys. For future consideration in instances like this, mind touching on maintenance costs if you can? Example: the car is American and the only competition is German or Italian (Alfa). I figure it’s advantage American, but it would be great to know either way! Edit: for a car real people can afford, running costs in a video can really sway opinion. Cheers!
They can’t predict maintenance costs for new cars unless the manufacturer lists them, time will tell. It won’t be cheap, it’s a twin turbo after all, but probably less than any German competitors
while the front end of the M3 is.... love/hate, the rear end of this CT4 just will never look good. For me, its a base 6MT M3 at the 75-85k price point, in some crazy individual paint color with the carbon seats and that's it. but if you want the M3 comp and all the options, at 95k+ i'd just go to the CT5 V BW. That car handles just as good as the CT4 but actually has a characterful engine like the BMW. And will probably always hold its value if not appreciate if you go easy on the mileage. Last V8 + manual sedan ever, and its damn near perfect. CT4 V BW will always hold value, but it won't be a future classic. Also, My 2017 Golf R has 2 inches (!!) more rear legroom than this CT4 that is a foot and a half longer? wtf? Poor packaging.

@@jjchockey You think the Guilia is better than a car developed about 6 years later with mangaride? I have my doubts...
@@MrSchn3ll The CT4's Alpha platform was developed in 2012. The CT4 is a phenomenal vehicle no doubt but the Giulia just has more character. The steering and front end are more precise, the engine is more rowdy, and the chassis is phenomenally balanced like the Cadillac. Plus it looks SO much better imo inside and out.
Ig Cadillac management is turn ing its back on GM's buffoonery, why is the LT2 not offered in the 4VBW? These would sell like hotcakes if that were an offering. Having said that, I LOVE my ATS V. But I'd love it more with a factory installed LT1.
Love it, would definitely consider this if I needed 4 doors. Hopefully prices stay reasonable.
Dealer markup is still a thing. Give it a couple years and you could get a deal on some clean CPO/used ones. Assuming WWIII doesn't kill us all.
@@Celestion321 probably not in a couple years either since it’ll be closer to every car going electric. they’ll turn into a luxury to buy a gas car since they’re going away.
They’re not. Local dealer has one marked up 18k over sticker….
Good luck trying to get one of these
Was cross shopping between the M2 and the CT4V Blackwing and honestly it's the redline that killed it for me.
Tapout tuning is getting about 600 hp out of them
@@fzr1000981 tapout is about 20min away from me in Columbus. Solid shop. A big reason why I was ever considering one

@@fzr1000981 I still have my RS3. Been waiting for a buyer for the right price and for prices to come down on the M2. Looks like that will be happening this coming weekend if everything goes well
I saw a comparison of the CT5 Blackwing vs the BMW M5 CS. The Beemer crushed the CT5 off the line, but was actually slower around the track. Like you say, launch specs are not what is important.
And how much time are you going to be at the track? LOL….
The BMW checks all the other boxes. You track your Honda Accord lately?
@@Bad_Company666 These guys said they couldn't think of another performance sedan for the $75k price that they would rather have. If you think your M3 Comp is worth the extra $20k-$30k, then by all means, enjoy! You just sound REALLY defensive about it though.
I’m glad you like your BMW, but it’s lost every comparison test to the CT4 I’ve seen, plus you spent another $20K on something uglier.
P.S. From reviews I’ve heard, the last Accord V6 coupe was actually pretty sweet
when you're in V mode, the mode changes PTM. all you have to do is hit the v button again to come out of V mode. learned that on mine!
Love this! Want one. Have been considering the m240i, but this, with a manual, for not much more money... It might be time to buy 'Merican!!
V6s can be incredible, though. Evora, F Type, and GTR come to mind, as well as (gasp) modern 6 cylinder Camaros.
It sounds better than the turbocharged BMW inline sixes of recent
@@evanwheeler7687 dude, you are SO right about that V6 Camaro, especially with the manual. Total sleeper car!
th-cam.com/video/Qrs0oa-XIV4/w-d-xo.html listen to this
Yeah this thing sounds very muscular compared to my Accord V6, which i think sounds good for a V6
I always forget how fast Matt can mob on those canyon roads. Hugely impressive!
Wow you guys really like this thing. Was not expecting this glowing of praise for the “lesser” blackwing
I loveee the CT4 Blackwing! Best drivers car, especially for the money!! Good job Cadillac!
Very true, if your brakes fade, you want to know. Maybe a pad and fluid swap will give more peace of mind if you beat on it often
I am an M car guy but I would definitely take the CT4 blackwing over a new M3 Car looks fantastic!
this videos going viral for sure, the recommendation aspect + exciting enthusiast car= algorithmic
I was literally looking for a comparison video for these this morning! So random and great you just uploaded this! I have an order in on a G80 M3 manual and wanted to see if this stacks up.
Front end of the M4 is enough to buy the Caddy.
BMW is really finished and it’s sad to see
@@Boomtowndogs lol. Their sells earrings beg to differ mate. Cadillac has more to be worried about as they are not in the league as the premium German 3 brands.
@@dblezi sales may be fine but their identity is gone. That's what car people care about. Take ur bean counting elsewhere
Great induction roar. Good ol’ Cadillac.
I loooove this car Soooo Murch....another great review...hint I love when Matt gets on it!!!
You guys be putting out straight bangers of videos
My daily is a ATS-V sedan and I prefer the way it looks compared to the g80 M3 or the ct4 BW.
A shame we don't get these anymore in the EU. I'd definitely take this over the new M3
This is the reason I was convinced to get one of these next week when it comes in.
Looks like a great car! For that kind of money though you’re also could get an Alfa Romeo Giulia QV
Another awesome review guys
Really like this format, more than. The new more polished format.
Love mine. Took delivery in Dec and getting ready for first tack day next month.
6spd or 10spd. If you got the 10spd does it shift fast in manual mode?
Lmao 11:00 I thought the footage was sped up I almost spit out my coffee
I’m a BMW fan but I really like this car and the CT5 Blackwing. Good job Caddy 👍🏾
It's a damn shame we only have a short time to appreciate such an impressive sport sedan from a brand that used to only cater to old people
I'd still rather have the CT5-VB but the little brother is still fantastic.
Great video. I’m so excited about these cars.
FYI, I bought this exact car. Thanks for burning all the tires off. Steering wheel number plate matches up to mine
Blown away that you guys would pic this over the CT5v !
Really great review. Nice to see this car carving up canyons v seeing a review on a track or city streets.
Skip the yap 2:50
Great review guys. I'm ready to pull the trigger on one.
LOVING that Cannon Ball patch
Awesome car, superb color combo!!!
Yo Matt, you're looking good brother! Love all your content, hope you see this!
as someone who has driven the new g80 m3 (both 6 speed and auto) and was disappointed with both, this looks like a great alternative. It's too bad there's not much Vs out there (southwest) to actually go look at let alone drive, hopefully this will change in the next coming months.
I agree with Matt that track setting for the suspension is too stiff, sport suspension is the best, and touring suspension is a bit wallowy and boatlike
How does it compare to a Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio? The manual transmission puts it over the line for me.
“really fast around the canyon parking lot” made me lol hard
What a great car for what seams to be a solid price
Thanks for the review. The new Blackwing cars get me all hot and bothered!
We won’t see these in Aus so I would never have the opportunity to buy one but i sure did enjoy watching you fellas review it!
FYI, the engine and transmission development was performed at the Holden Proving Ground at Lang Lang, Victoria, so there were a few floating around in Oz before they were all crushed or shipped back to USA. It's a great package. #I_Used_To_Work_For_GM
@@richardggeorge that’s cool! What a shame we’ll never see them!
Props on the shot @14:11
Really hope these come down about 15-20k used in a couple years. I'd love to have one in combination to an electric pickup truck. That plus track car = dream garage
They won’t, value on anything V holds high. My dad purchased the 2019 ATS-V that they used for sema in 2018 and they gave him a $1k discount because they put 20miles on it from driving in and out of show room floors for sema. My dad just put it back up for sale and he got 100% return on it + some extra cash.
@@Jjjjjjj750 although I agree that v cars will hold value well I don't think you can realistically use a recently sold vehicle as an example. I won't be buying any more vehicles until the car market settles down
@@grantkendrick277 ats vs at there lowest were still in the 30s...... These aren't dropping to 15-20k any time soon.maybe wait a decade and get a rebuilt title one sure. They won't sell well either most likely just like the ats v which will make them more rare.
They won't . You will have to wait until gas prices are so high that no one can afford to drive a non EV car, then these will be CHEAP. I just don't see these prices coming down since there won't be anything new that's interesting to replace it, ever.
These are the last of the internal-combustion Cadillacs. Don't expect these to EVER be cheap.
Dope review guys!
I want to know this?? If the ATS V had the same style interior as the Black wings. Which would you buy?
It would still have the older Mag ride, smaller rear brakes, worse sounding induction and exhaust, and countless other small improvements. BUT, the ATS-V doesn't have a bad angle.
I just think its a prettier car over all being a coupe
@@southerncomfort1339 coupe is a plus if you don't need 4drs. I have a 2 seater and a wagon in my stable so the sedan is most appealing.
Wish they made this an NA LT1 V8
You guys pointed out why I'm against so much technology in the newer cars. The brakes that Zack mentioned which could be very dangerous and Matt mentioned the car getting stuck in said mode.
And if it gets stuck in said mode odds are that the driver will try and fix it WHITE driving.
I thought the V6 Mustang sounded great until Ford turned in into a rental car.
Would definitely choose this over the BMW M3 my only issue is the mark up price on this car .the dealers are insane just like everything else everything else out there so I would be more likely wait for a used One
That's everywhere right now, man. The dealers around here aren't even discounting Mitsubishi Mirages.
Order it. Good dealers order @MSRP.
Try looking at dealerships in softer markets. Delivery will cost more, but if you find a deal with no mark up you’ll still be thousands ahead
I had to drive to Iowa for mine at msrp. Worth it. There's also an official list of good actors on the V-Forums if you're serious.
Currently trying to decide between buying a used ats-v or leasing a ct4-v (non blackwing). Leaning towards the ats-v, but man I wish I could afford the blackwing!
You can get an 6mt in the ATS-V, so that's a big win. The 2.7 in my wife's CT4 is a tq'y MFer but still a 4 cylinder in the end.
Shit that might be the growliest best sounding V6 I've heard in a whiiiile
Here's what sucks. My 2020 m340i xdrive is 11.9 at 116 dead stock and 11.4 122 e40 tune. But its boring to drive I want the ct4 blackwing but that much slower is a hard pill to swallow. I'm probably going to do it anyways and just get it.
Tune, drag radials and downpipes has already gotten an 10spd auto down to 11.1 at 127mph. This engine in the ATS-V has been known to do 600whp as a common recipe.
Facts. M3 competition definetly quicker
Enjoyed the video.
Wow. Really great praise of the ct4bw. Especially when they say can't come up with a better new vehicle for 75k.
A simple tune on that car will put it high 10 quarter mile at 500 whp (: Thanks Tapout Tuning!
Need some input. This or the new Integra Type S?
Are you regularly transporting adults in the rear seats? If so, Acura.
If not, Blackwing. More cylinders, more turbos, more power, better shifter/clutch, and something very special/unique.
Cadillac,
You’ve come a long way, Baby.
Wish they had made a 2 door version.
Makes me miss my ATS-V. Question tho: would you take the CT4-V Blackwing over the Guilia QV (another great sounding V6)?
Two pedals vs three in the US and reliability of the QV is a deterrent
Lots of people have had trouble with the Alfa V6, and they say the Giulia’s breaks are really weird. Plus the Cadi will be cheaper to service
Price reliability chasis
Nice engine sound.
Definitely not a bad sounding v6
Not bad, but still the buggest area where the M3 is superior. S58 sounds better, much more powerful, and has better fuel economy.
I want this chassis, with M3 engine and interior, and PDK 😅
@@The_Stanman man!!! That sounds like a dream combination!
I just ordered one of these, because dealers were marking them up over 10k. trading in my M2
I was debating saving for an M2 but this looks like a no brainer, especially with M2s over retail used
Great video. This is a compelling car without a doubt.
What does downpipe + tune do for the ct4?
Fully built, there's 4BWs out there putting up 9s.
Hey fellas that was one of the more fun and entertaining two takes you've done. 1. Amazing car. 2. It was nice seeing you guys enjoy the drive.
Better looking than the CT5 with that rear fake rear window kink, and better looking than the buck-tooth M3.

this because the m3 is ghastly
