  • This video will show you what lock we chose to use on our inward folding bus door and also how we installed it! We had a heck of a time finding the right lock that we felt would be secure and easy to use/install but we finally managed to get one. We hope this video will be helpful for others out there with the same style of door and the same problem!
Lock we used can be found here:

We did have to buy a drill but specifically for steel plate as well.

Wish I had the wide band between my windows, like yours. This would be such a great option.

I had one of the "jimmy proof" locks on our bus for a while, but it fell apart. I just installed one of these, and it's so much better. The tolerances don't have to be as perfect as the old lock, and it feels more secure.

Nice! Do you think this would work with the 2 separate doors that fold into each other?

It one of the only locks that works for the bifold but for the two doors that come together people usually seem to use something else. Which you can find in most videos here on TH-cam, it’s a type of master lock.

Could this lock be used for the other type of doors that swing open from the center?

Don’t see why not. It’s long enough and super sturdy

To be honest, I wouldn't trust that lock with my life or household valuables - it is at best an honest person's lock the way it is installed. Perhaps it could be made stronger by welding heavy metal plates on both bifold doors that nearly meet, then drilling and tapping them with interior bolts. Or carriage bolts like you have. But there is only about 1/4" to 1/2" of the bolt going thru the catch, and a swift kick will open it. That, and you posted the "keyed alike" number so some bad gal could theoretically order a copy of the key and get in without the kick. The best bifold door locks I have seen involve a bar that extends all the way side to side and rests on sturdy brackets on both sides. The problem with them is you can't open them from the outside, so the slight modification I described above should make your lock more secure. Hope this is sounds more helpful than critical.

Hi, John here, the one that installed the lock. I appreciate the concern but the lock is really just to keep nosey or opportunistic people from entering our bus unimpeded. Any determined thief can easily bypass a door lock as door locks are really just deterrents. Even house locks are designed to be able to be kicked in to give emergency personnel access, unless you purchase a security door. Honestly if a thief really wanted to gain access all they would have to do is kick in the windows on the doors or the windshield as these are designed to allow easy access in case of an accident or emergency since buses originally were designed to transport children. Oh and the lock slide goes over a full inch into the latch, In video I don’t think I slid it all the way over.

@susanpidgeon9683 that’s the risk with every house and rv on the planet. They all have windows.
