This feels like a really really early version of Mech Tech and those dark of the moon Vehicle modes that just cracked apart to reveal a billion weapons
A lot of these late G1 lads have a lot of charm to them. I recently got my hands on the last member of the Skyscorchers-- can definitely recommend all four, even if their shared gimmick of 'the weapon pegs into the underside in vehicle mode' is laughable, they've got some really fun transformations.

All I know is that the middle G1 period (post movie, pre micro masters) has some excellent designs only held back by the lack of possibility that was dictated by the safety standards of the time. The sparkabots and firecons had a lot of personality as well as the throttle bots and the whole Headmaster/Targetmaster/Powermaster dynasty.
That's a bit of speculation that makes sense! Kinda glad they switched it up for variety of design, though. Agreed about the Sparkabots too, I'm gagging for a modern take on those characters (even if they can't burn our fingers off).

Just opened up the modern legacy update of Ruckus earlier today, and I can’t help but think these guys were the first version of the planet key gimmick we’d later see in cybertron trilogy (that whole plug something in and guns flip out idea). Pretty cool, and these lads don’t even need a power up to do their gimmick.
Collected these and the Triggerbots up last year and they're all pretty delightful. Definitely recommend the Triggerbots too. Especially Backstreet and Override.
I love the triggercons and bots, I would say for me the G1 series 5 1988 wave of toys are my all time faves as a kid and as a sad hairy man, Transformers or otherwise. Only need 3 more figures to complete this wave.
Absolutely loved these guys. My faves were always Backstreet and Ruckus. Poor lads haven't got much love over the years with any new toys...save Crankcase. Guess he just moaned until Hasbro gave him one.
Absolutely love these. This was precisely my jam when I was little. Cool vehicle, cool robot, nifty gimmick, awesome colors, fits in my pocket. Mm, cozy nostalgia. EDIT: Also, mad jealousy that your Crankcase and Ruckus still properly do the thing.
These feel like an early version of some Cybertron toys. Crankcase has the same gimmick as Deluxe Cybertron Red-Alert, Windsweeper has the same gimmick as Voyager Starscream, and the buggy guy that I've already forgotten the name of has the same gimmick as Cybertron Scourge.
Apparently, Ruckus was originally going to be in Combiner Wars, but ultimately became Offroad instead. Offroad still has some Ruckus elements in his design (the head and the leg details), which was what prompted the Collector's Club to repaint him as such.
There's a Toyhax set to convert Off Road to Ruckus. Colours aren't perfect but a long time Ruckus fan, I'm happy with it and it's better than forking out the obscene prices the Collector's Club Ruckus goes for. The chrome stickers on the vehicle mode look great.
We have a new Crankcase in Legacy now, so fingers crossed for a Ruckus retool of Beachcomber. It's either that or a Gobots Buggyman homage in terms of mold reuse.
One of the Rotor Force Decepticons got a new figure years back but they gave him the other guy's name. I agree with you on updates of the Laser Rods and Rotor Force. Throw in the Stormtroopers, Axelerators and the Skyscorchers as well
Crankcase is great (Ruckus looks good too, but I don't have him) but Override from the opposing Triggerbots takes the concept to an excellent extreme with his squat stature and massive guns. You just know he'd use his own name as a catchphrase.
I feel odd, I only found out about the Triggercons through the new Crankcase and a weird bootleg of Windsweeper I picked up while toy shopping in Peru.
Oh nice, I did not knew Crankcase original toy or team. I guess he got lucky to get a toy last year. It annoy me a bit (but not that much) when they split the original teams. Hasbro, keep friends togethers please.
Legacy (and WFC, and Prime wars) is all about recolors and remolds. Crankcase was an easy remold of Skids (who was recolored two more times too), but there weren’t any other recent molds that lent themselves easily to becoming the other Triggercons. Except that Beachcomber can totally be reworked into Ruckus, and Needlenose can be an inaccurate but acceptable Windsweeper.

What's wrong with the name Windsweeper? I had all three Triggercons growing up. I liked Ruckus in the UK comics for his loyalty to Megatron and his advising Thunderwing. Plus Ruckus and Crankcase made cool bodyguards for Actionmaster Megatron. There's a Toyhax set to convert Off Road to Ruckus. I bought it last year and it's great to have an updated Ruckus. The chrome stickers look great in his truck mode. I got the set to convert Triggerhappy to Dogfight too and the Adventure Triggerbot Override repainted from Legends Groove. Last year was a good year for my Triggermaster collection. I know they're not called Triggermasters but I always liked the name. I'd hope for an update of Windsweeper but he'd likely be a retool of the disappointingly small Needlenose. I've long considered customising the Cybertron Starscream figure as Windsweeper. It's got that terra cotta colour similar to Windy and also has flip out weapons on his arms. I still think G1 Override's chrome, flip out, particle beam cannons are one of the coolest gimmicks of all time, especially how they land so he looks like he's holding them. Fingers crossed for a Backstreet repaint of Tracks.
I would like to request a video about the esso gas station robots, which I found out about while trying to find the completely unrelated jim henson esso gas attendant robot
Not a Triggercon: Triggerhappy. Sometimes you remember the simplicity of the line and what has been lost for better sculpting and articulation. I do love a lot of the new toys more so since Siege, sure, but I suppose it's a hard ask to have both.
So do you subscribe the the Theory that Windsweeper's chrome flip outs mean he was meant to be a Tiggerbot while Dogfight's whirrr-guns mean he was originally destined to be a Triggercon? i like to look at cranckase with its clean design... rather then the horrid legacy one with big ass hinges, and front part that badly attaches. Any toy with gimmicks is always awesome as it gives them their own identity
