100MPH wreck, 25th to 1st - TWS in a Spec Racer

  • Please check out my other racing videos! Several of them are as entertaining as this one, including one with over 40 lead changes and a wreck to end the race, plus it includes rear and foot cams. Thanks for watching and if you are looking for driving or race coaching hit me up at lightspeedmotorsports@outlook.com. I’ve introduced a video coaching format as well, details available and will be posted soon.
Hey subs! I think you're gonna like this one.
100MPH wreck/spin, 13 cars passed in the first lap, 25th to 1st in a deep field in 12 laps total.
Oh and some Star Wars Easter eggs if you're into that.
Props to RightThisMinute who grabbed this video and captured the essence well! www.rightthismi...
    Description:
This is a 33 car field. Going into T1 on lap 1, the cars on either side of squeezed down before I could get out of the way causing a sizeable wreck. My car suffered a fair amount of cosmetic damage (still working on it) but surprisingly was drivable. After that, it was just a question of "how far back up through the field can I get?". With national champion level drivers at the front of the pack, I surprised even myself with the results.
Enjoy, and don't forget to subscribe!
    Camera is a GoPro2.

    • @shooter7a
      @shooter7a 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Utter nonsense. Knowing "the line" means nothing if you can not go around a corner fast. The tactile seat of the pants and palm of the hands feel where the tires are an extension of your body is what matters. Knowing the racing line is comically simple for any competent driver. And there are lot of slow competent drivers. SCCA racing is not exactly deep talent pool.

That fine line where you're close to losing it, but not quite. It's hard to maintain that for such a long period, but it's what makes a great driver rather than a good one.

Your forward focus served you well in the very impressive run. But it was your undoing in the first incident. I learnt much later than I should have, that looking sideways for potential "issues" is just as, if not more important than forwards. But this was 2014, it's now 2020. I'm sure you are more than aware of this. Great video.

I know a lot of people call RacerX a “cheater”, but the fact is that a spec series like this is much more open than something like NASCAR. No matter what you do to level the field of any spec series, someone will figure out a way to go faster. That’s the spirit of racing: to see who’s the fastest. I bet you he spent hundreds, if not thousands, of man hours perfecting his craft. And yes, when you dial in every last drop of performance out of a chassis you *will* be faster, but that’s the whole point.

For most of the race, you got to breeze by the easier opponents, saving your tires more than the leaders that are likely tearing them up as they get caught up in battles. By the end of the race, it seemed that your tires were doing slightly better than your opponents, even though they were quite worn down! Great race!

So quick question, at about 20:00 you tried to make the pass but wasn't able to stick. That had been your bread and butter so far, drafting and then driving hard into that turn and accepting a little tire wear. Why was the 1st place able to jump back in like that? It looked like you had a huge draft advantage and drove that thing into the turn hard. Did you pop ouy of the draft too quick or something? How does a draft effect lead position directly after jumping out of the draft like that?

Unfamiliar with Spec Racer class. Seems clear there is a significant power differential to all but 2 maybe 3 cars. Disqualification in post-race inspection? Else what's equivalent about it?

brian jackson nope. All engines and transmissions are sealed and teched after the race. Down to the oil filter cars are identical. Corner exit speed, draft, and shift quickness are the main deltas. Thanks for watching!

Honestly, very good driving. Can't say you could have entered or exited many of the corners any better.

Agreed... though it’s all spec :). Engines and trans are sealed up and identical.

First of all, congrats for your podium finish. 2nd, those 2 cars who squeezed you seemed like team mates and serve them right. Your car has more top end power making it easy to catch up. Many of them are rookies, they brake too early into the turns. Some taking wrong lines. I like that you brake slightly early into a turn then continue full throttle during the turns which gave you quicker exiting those turns. You slip steam those buggers and slingshot out into the turns when they start to brake. Good slipstreaming. Strategy to be patient always pay as you wait for them to make mistakes especially when they see you breathing down their neck. As for some of your long high-speed turns, you could try tapping the throttle to gain even more traction from acceleration. Btw, how was your tire wear after the race? Especially the rear ones. I guess inside wear more than outside. Anyways, congrats again. Keep up the good spirit of motorsports.
