no really ive been to jamaica for a birthday, i spent atleast an entire day out and about, eating patties. they are flakey, almost like a pastry, i can never find a good recipe because everyone makes them so thick... i miss being in jamaica and being able to get the real thing, the frozen ones and the yt videos on how to make them never compare 😩😩

Nah, I'm haitian Id prefer it the other way around. Can't stand Haitian patties and stick to Jamaican, simply because the meat ISN'T even there with Haitian patties. Most of the time it's like you're just eating deadass greasy puff pastry. MAYBE you can taste a TINY HINT of meat when you get to the very middle. Would like a Haitian tasting filling, except FILLED with meat the way the Jamaicans do......and a Jamaican crust, so it isn't greasy and overpowering the meat like Haitian crust does.

As a Haitian, to stary of we have 2 different patties. One that is mostly made in the home setting and by street vendors in Haiti and its more doughy and the other takes more skills due to the crust having to be flaking and does take more time to prepare and is made mostly by those with advanced cooking/baking skills. The amount of filling that are in the patties due tend to vary, however its absolutely delicious. The Haitians patties that I've had and continue to have (both versions), always have a great amount of filling in it. I love the spinach patties that Jamaicans have, i personally dislike the texture of the meat filling from the beef and chicken patties but the spinach ones be hitting the spot.
@@quelquun2018 exactly! My aunt makes the best haitian patties, they're very flakey and moist and there's chicken, beef, and fish fillings. I'm not a fan of the more "crumbly" ones though. Jamaican patties are great but I've only seen/had the beef ones and I'm not entirely sure if there's variety like that.
