The Doors did the the same thing in the US when invited on TV.. they were told not to say the word "higher" Jim agreed... then sang it anyways... The Doors were the original rebels of rock!
That's like JIM MORRISON on the Ed Sullivan show, performing "LIGHT MY FIRE" with the DOORS. The show producers told him NOT to sing the line " Girl we couldn't get much HIGHER". ( they freaked out over the reference to getting high on weed). So they do the song....and he lunges towards the camera and deliberately did the line AS WRITTEN ❗🎵 . Yells "HIGHER". They were banned from ever coming back on the Ed Sullivan show. Bravo Jim Bravo ❗
The British public once bought this song en masse during the christmas period to make sure that the X Factor winner wouldn't get Christmas number 1 as they always did. They actually got it and the radio had to keep playing this song. Rage did a free thank you gig in the UK not long afterwards.
the forces/crosses line references the Ku Klux Klan or KKK's burning of crosses and that some of those that work forces (police forces/armed forces) are the cross-burning kind of racists. If Rage are known for anything, it's being hardcore activists and their music is a call to action. It's got that funky rhythm section and innovative guitar playing along with angry vocals that are honestly quite educational as they reference a LOT of stuff the powers that be have swept under the rug

This song is about police brutality. Getting a vaccine to stop a virus is not something Zach would be opposed to. In stark contrast to most people nowadays, he is educated and cares about doing something for others.
i first know of the song in 2008 during junior high when an upperclassmen played this in a school fest and my mind was blown... im not a native english speaker but i got the gist of the song back then... but after a few years later the lyrics just sinked in to me... and its both amazing and scary that this song is still so relevant
Love the way you can almost instantly analyse and come to conclusions on the lyrics and possible meaning behind them, smart lad. Best reaction videos on TH-cam.
hey !!! im listenning ratm for 20 years and more, all the morning and i m going work...Just....LOVE !!! Thank you for your video ( sorry i m french, very bad english)
If I'm not mistaken when Zack DeLaRocha was a kid his mother was highly involved in activism for various social justice causes. He grew up amongst free thinking people and activists, so this was ingrained into him from a young age. So sad that it's still as relevant today than it was 30 years ago. Requesting Bulls on Parade if you haven't already seen it.
dude… i think you would love Download festival 😃 i was trying to describe the vibe to my niece tonight because i’m taking her for the first time next year and what came out of my mouth was “it’s a crazy chill vibe. i mean, the whole place is collectively off the fucking chain, but everyone is super chill with each other.” she was a little worried she won’t fit in because she’d only ever been to hip-hop and r&b shows but listens to a lot of rock and metal as well. it’s a very welcoming environment and i felt like i was among 100,000 family members last year for my first time there 💜
saw em live after the got back together the first time years and years ago.. probably well over a decade now.. i think i was 21.. im 35 now.. man, this shit absolutely slayed.. they closed the festival out with this song and shit got intense... never seen so many people jump and scream...
Loving your reactions! I've looked at all my favorites starting with Tool, Jinjer and then Disturbed. I grew up listening to RATM and history does tend to always repeat itself. Keep going with these great reactions!
Bro check Rage Against the Machine "Bulls on parade live" the guitar solo you will be blown away. and thats the famous song they have I think or one of.
Love seeing this again so I don't mind! Watching you is always great. I feel a bit attacked personally when you continued to specify that this was 30 years ago LMAO 😂 I don't feel I needed that bit of information pointed out, I already feel old enough lol But you're right, the fact that it's still relevant today is just crazy. Just proves that the people(or the type of people) that have always been in control, still are. It's obvious that's getting us nowhere. I don't know a lot about the government where you are but here in America it constantly amazes me. People divided, fighting and picking sides. Constant back and forth between Republicans and Democrats. And all the while most people fall right into it, eating that shit up, never realizing what's right in front of them. In front of all of us. Democrat or republican it doesn't matter, it's the entire government that's corrupt. Who's President? To an extent, that doesn't matter either. He's the fall guy, the one to blame for everything done by the ones pulling the strings behind the curtain. The entire system is flawed and as long as people fall for it and stay divided things will never change. Just the same cycle of ignorance. In the immortal words of The Doors and Pink Floyd "The time to hesitate is through"- The Doors "Together we stand, divided we fall."-Pink Floyd
1993, Paperdoll lounge, Charlotte. I knew she chose the song, and I watched her mouth every lyric When she squatted in front of me, and said "f*** you I won't do what you tell me" , I slid her a $2 billI and replied "who the f*** does this song!?!?"😂 absolutely never forget the first time I heard Rage Against the Machine
Okay so I dunno if you are still reading comments on old videos, but the pedals, well, they do different things. You have overdrive pedals, distortion pedals, Wah Wah pedals, loop pedals. It's basically a way to affect or enhance your song, for stylistic effect. When you step on one, the circuit becomes active and the current runs through it, performing its dark magic. Think of it as when you play a keyboard and you play around with the sound. If you did manage to read this comment and you enjoyed it... Please react to the song "Buckethead - Soothsayer" to see one of the masters of guitar plying his art
I was there. 18 years old, 1993 Lollapalooza (ok, I'm not sure if it was this specific show but it was this tour). The energy of the crowd was *insane*.
Some of those that run office are the same that burn crosses label made them change it to work forces so they weren't going directly for whitehouse and its the only time i know of that they bent to the pressure of the machine
there is 5 differents pedals, the first one is an distortion by ibanez, the second one and the fourth one i can't tell, the third one is an equalizer to, for exemple, boost your sound on a solo, and the big red one is a whammy and that's what does the sound wher he go wayyy up,
went to my first ever festival last year, I am ND so was super nervous but people were to plight and helpful. Last year was only a single day but this year I went for 3 whole days and it was amazing but I was also completely smashed afterwards. Both physically for moshing, dancing and walking for hours and psychologically for the overstimulation but it was worth it and def going next year. Might even go as volounteer.

"Some of those that work forces (police) are the same that burn crosses (KKK)." In the US, the beginnings of the state policing industry had very close ties to the KKK, especially in the South, some were in the KKK or were leaders. The systemic racism in the US police system, endemic in the harsher treatment, profiling, illegal searches, police brutality (and worse), and poorer protection services towards minorities--Black, Brown, Central and South American immigrants, Native Americans and Indigenous Peoples, and recently Asians as well is what this song is about. During and just before the Jim Crow era, the police--KKK ties were extremely strong and there were multiple cities and towns in America that were mainly prosperous Black towns. These were looted and burned to the ground by jealous, racist White citizens. In many of these violent occurrences the local and state police forces did not stop the violence, they joined and helped the White citizens and were violent against the Black citizens. This is just one example.--police brutality against migrant workers, Native Americans on reservations in the past, and many other instances all stemming from poisonous historical ties to racism.
They could whip a crowd up into a frenzy in a hurry. (Watch their live stuff in Mexico City, Mexican and South American crowds are insane in general!) Rage are so powerful. I'm sorry your full hour got blocked, but thanks for uploading it again!
"I didnt know Greta Thunberg has dreadlocks"
I howled at that line 😂😂😂
Also, the pedal he uses is affectionately called a "Wah wah" pedal cos when you use it the sound goes "wah wah" 😂😂😂😂
This song is about police brutality. Getting a vaccine to stop a virus is not something Zach would be opposed to. In stark contrast to most people nowadays, he is educated and cares about doing something for others.
i was looking for a comment like this! i was so baffled that he even made that comparison in the video... honestly how ignorant can you be?
“Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses”
Didn’t know Greta Thunberg had dreadlocks.. 😂😂 I am fucking dying.. You Sir, are a bloody legend 🇦🇺
They didn't force you
Man that's so fun to watch the reactions you make on theese iconic songs! great reaction I must say! It helps us all see it from another angle👍
new Sub...this has been My national anthem since it dropped!!!...I'm 56yrs old. Play this on the regular.... Texas here....yep.
I had exactly the same reaction when I first heard it in the 90 on MTV
The BEST FRICKING reaction to this😎🤘
i first know of the song in 2008 during junior high when an upperclassmen played this in a school fest and my mind was blown... im not a native english speaker but i got the gist of the song back then... but after a few years later the lyrics just sinked in to me... and its both amazing and scary that this song is still so relevant
thank you, you made me remember my childhood
How ironic that you hear a police siren right outside your window as this song plays. Message!
the pedals are known as "wa wa pedals" they are used to distort the sound of the guitar to produce different sounds from them
Love the way you can almost instantly analyse and come to conclusions on the lyrics and possible meaning behind them, smart lad. Best reaction videos on TH-cam.
I appreciate that!
Fun fact: the guitar player, Tom Morello is friends with Tool members, especially Adam Jones, as they all originated hanging out in L.A.
Man your enhyped state is just infectious! Love it!🔥
hey !!! im listenning ratm for 20 years and more, all the morning and i m going work...Just....LOVE !!! Thank you for your video ( sorry i m french, very bad english)
man it's awesome you remind me of me and my friends listening to this drunk at parties for the 1000th time and still goin crazy
It is a reverb pedal it back flows the sound to remove spaces of empty sound in between the cords being played.
Bah hahahahaha the shit going flying past the screen was hilarious as fuck. So much fun watching you discover the greats!
"Some of those that run forces, are the same that burn crosses"
The crosses reference is klu klux clan/racism . It's talking about how there's racist cops who have power over people, specifically POC.
It's a whammy pedal, also called a pitch shifter. They usually raise the played note 1 or 2 octaves higher.
And I told him he'd like it
dude… i think you would love Download festival 😃 i was trying to describe the vibe to my niece tonight because i’m taking her for the first time next year and what came out of my mouth was “it’s a crazy chill vibe. i mean, the whole place is collectively off the fucking chain, but everyone is super chill with each other.” she was a little worried she won’t fit in because she’d only ever been to hip-hop and r&b shows but listens to a lot of rock and metal as well. it’s a very welcoming environment and i felt like i was among 100,000 family members last year for my first time there 💜
RAGE Iis the Goat!!
That's called a "wah-wah pedal"
Rage Against The Machine got me thru my teenager years and it was GLORIOUS! btw ALL their songs are superb , just pick one..
Efects "wah-wah">"equalizer" lithe bass off>"overdrive" 15~20%> "delay" 0.067 ms or 3%. Or Pedal Zoom G3 effect 43
He's using a Digitech whammy pedal to get that +2 octave pitch shifting effect in the solo
Thank you Brother....
saw em live after the got back together the first time years and years ago.. probably well over a decade now.. i think i was 21.. im 35 now.. man, this shit absolutely slayed.. they closed the festival out with this song and shit got intense... never seen so many people jump and scream...
More Rage!!! 💯
Loving your reactions! I've looked at all my favorites starting with Tool, Jinjer and then Disturbed. I grew up listening to RATM and history does tend to always repeat itself. Keep going with these great reactions!
Dope reaction man! New sub 🤙🏼
We made this the Xmas #1 in 2009, how did you miss that?!
Saw these dudes live right before they hit it big. Was 19 years old and it was such a great show.
Bro check Rage Against the Machine "Bulls on parade live" the guitar solo you will be blown away. and thats the famous song they have I think or one of.
I was at this show. Great memories.
At 9:33 you basically got it, there's a chain for the distortion etc but the one his foot's on is a wah wah pedal. Makes it go wah wah
In the immortal words of The Doors and Pink Floyd
"The time to hesitate is through"- The Doors
"Together we stand, divided we fall."-Pink Floyd
Great reaction, and this definitely became my theme during the pandemic as well!
Wow, the last 30 + years just passed me by!
Changes the sound and tune of the guitar
@0:40 well Zach is all healed & so Rage Against the Machine is going back on tour w/ Run the Jewels!! should be mindblowingly breathtaking
9:38 when you hook multiple pedals together you can get some weird effects and sounds
Some of those that run office are the same that burn crosses label made them change it to work forces so they weren't going directly for whitehouse and its the only time i know of that they bent to the pressure of the machine
there is 5 differents pedals, the first one is an distortion by ibanez, the second one and the fourth one i can't tell, the third one is an equalizer to, for exemple, boost your sound on a solo, and the big red one is a whammy and that's what does the sound wher he go wayyy up,
Imagine all the talent still undiscovered.
The pedals? Everything. You want an effect, you buy a pedal. (Or a digital super pedal now) Like a kind of analogic sound workstation.
Some of those who WORK forces, are the same that burn crosses
Painful to see a wyt reactor take this message and twist into an anti-vax statement. 🤦♂️
real G.O.A.T RATM
That begining part feels like something you would hear a black preacher say in a movie
went to my first ever festival last year, I am ND so was super nervous but people were to plight and helpful.
Last year was only a single day but this year I went for 3 whole days and it was amazing but I was also completely smashed afterwards.
Both physically for moshing, dancing and walking for hours and psychologically for the overstimulation but it was worth it and def going next year.
Might even go as volounteer.
I remember hearing this for the first time when i was 11.
As much as you enjoy the guitar sounds youd love Bulls on parade by Rage
"sirens!" The deciders heard your brain changing
Love this so much!
Geezus the drummers pace is up and down and up and down. Thank God for the metronome!
Bro you need to watch the song bullet in your head from the same concert it’s insane Zach goes into his on zone best performance ever man it’s crazy and the guitar sounds are bad ass on the track
It's nice of Elliot Stanley to be making review videos. My man.
I love your expressions sooooo much!
you would love the video of them being kicked off of live tv for singing this song after they were told not to sing it lmao
"Some of those that work forces (police) are the same that burn crosses (KKK)."
In the US, the beginnings of the state policing industry had very close ties to the KKK, especially in the South, some were in the KKK or were leaders.
(Watch their live stuff in Mexico City, Mexican and South American crowds are insane in general!) Even just listening to the studio versions makes you wanna break stuff lol I swore off listening to RATM late at night because I get hyped, and yet here I am 😂 But I love watching a metalhead being born, it's freaking fantastic. Over the garden wall!
