I can imagine a young group of friends struggling with the housing market decide to band together and invest in the abandoned building to convert it into a block of apartments. They are all handy or creative, each one wanting a space to run their own business, an artist, candle maker, wood worker, musician, streamer etc. A communal area to socialise and a shared vege garden so they can be self sufficient.
I love this! In my head, it's about than 4 sims (they're all busy, you don't want to manage too many) and it's a retail lot but they all just live there bc we all do that anyway
@@thomascastelein5476 possibly, you could still design something around that though, would be fun, using uncoventional things to create dividers/walls, blow up beds from the camping pack, boxes to store their stuff, second hand mismatched furniture they had found and bought to location.
As a person from Manchester, England, abandoned factories/mills are as frequent as Sims 4 Kits. As a person who works in one of these buildings I can say they've been converted into: nightclubs, bars, restaurants, apartments, museums, workshops, sweet shops, heritage centres, indoor climbing venues, shopping centres, art studios - literally anything! It's one of the reasons old factories are some of my favourite types of buildings, and why this is one of my favourite builds XD.
I used to work in a store that sells furniture and I think your original loading dock area was spot-on! We had multiple lifts to get things from the loading dock, trash compactor, and high shelves. They were basically shelves like the ones you used because the furniture was all in boxes. The only assembled furniture was out on the sales floor.
I have 2 ideas i thought I might share for renovating/game play 1) leaving it mostly as is and having rebellious teens come here, have bonfires, make it into a club hangout, and paint murals 2) renovate into an actual furniture retail store, with lots of different styles set up as "rooms" kinda like an IKEA and maybe even a little cafe as well Seriously great build with so much attention to detail! 11/10 💖
“I’ll do it soon” he said. Eight years have passed since. The world is in it’s twenty seventh wave of covid. Cries for the remodel of the factory have thus far fallen on deaf ears. But, there is hope. The James Turner Cult on Metaverse 3.0 has been gaining followers, and if we reach 30.000 human subscribers James has promised us a part 2. I daydream of it’s existence.
The chimney would be use like that to get the building heated if it was in a cold climate. It would be for the boilers which would be huge to heat such a big building.
If it's a very old factory, it might have been steam powered when it was first built. Even though it's not steam powered any more, the big chimneys might still be there. Some modern industries (steal, ceramics, glass) still involve very high temperatures and use furnaces. I'm not sure what kinds of chimneys they have but you could imagine the factory was for one of those industries.
Thanks for the content :) Edit: I worked in a (food manufacturing) factory and the loading docks and shelves are pretty accurate as well as the place with high ceilings. You’d have a fork truck for moving the furniture off the tall dock to the shelves and the shelves would be huge for pallets. IMHO, anyway! Great video even if we must suspend some belief.
The inside reminds me of the shoe factory from jumanji. Would love seeing the reno, either an apartment like you said or maybe turning it into a community center space like a library or even a bowling alley/night club.
For the dirty windows or broken windows effect; I use the big plain windows and then put on jungle adventure cracks, Vampires pack Cracks, and the stains from StrangerVille pack.
When you showed the little bit of ski stuff in the storage area by the loading dock I reminded me of my mom working in a ski manufacturing shop in the 80’s! It makes sense for the loading dock to be used to ship out pallets of skis and the sliding back doors are where pallets of paint, tools and whatever else goes into skis are brought into the factory. The lower floor is where the work is done to shape the skis and up above in the higher floors is where they’re painted. The chimneys let out the chemical smog from the paint or steam from shaping wooded skis. The elevator also comes into play to take pallets of unfinished skis up to the area where they would then be painted. It could definitely just be a furniture factory and all the open room in the factory is where the manufacture lines once sat but they were sold off when the place went out of business. Either way the build looks great!
I'm definitely seeing a brewery with an onsite bar/restaurant downstairs, and a living space for the owner upstairs. This would definitely be my IRL hangout.
I actually love the shape of it for a house. Like if someone were to come in and renovate it into a home for their family, keeping some of the aesthetic of the place.
Industrial factory, this brings me back to Lady Bigwallet. I love how you supposedly were doing a shell but made up the story and envisioned the whole workshop, very very cool build though hahaha
This was really cool!! It's nice seeing you so these kinds of builds again. But I wonder if this isn't more of a fixer upper and less of a shell challenge, lol. Happy holidays to you, Deli, and Bowser!!
yup, this was awesome cause i do urban exploration and we have an abandoned big factory in my city which ive went to and this reminded me of that, so this is just awesome!
I was thinking this would be a great artists studio. I can picture someone who creates large sculptures using this big open space to build in. It could house a bunch of artists who all live together and have their own creative spaces.
This is definitely one of my favorite factory builds ever!😱 I imagine it being renovated into a big club with a lounge and bowling etc. … sth like a museum/gallery or even a wellness center could work aswell. 🤔
in the 19th century industrial era, any machine was steam powered or muscle powered, so if the factory had any automated machinery it would have to have a big furnace to burn that coal and a chimney to go with it. Maybe not such a huge , power plant size ones, but chimneys nonetheless
I absolutely loved the big shelves stacked up on each other. I work in a warehouse and that’s genuinely how part of our warehouse space is. Lots of storage for lots of stuff
I love the idea of you building this warehouse to have us renovate!! It’s more interesting than just a plain shell challenge because there’s a backstory!

I could totally imagine this as a Bikers hangout. Sons of Anarchy style. Have motorbikes everywhere and a bar and an office for gang meetings! Love this build James
As someone who works in a factory, the boss's office does sit overhead with windows overlooking the shop floor and the engineers do sit in open concept offices so I would say it is pretty spot on.
I mentioned just yesterday how I would love to be able to paint platforms regular wall colors. So glad I'm not alone in this! I love this build! I can't wait to see what everyone does with it.
This would be so cool as part of a game pack around halloween - like "Ghost Investigation" or something. Put a bunch of ghosts in here and have your sims go here on a vacation geared toward spooky haunted experiences.
Don't worry about the one door being too high, because that's very realistic. I used to work in a factory that looked like this. It had all the modern equipment crammed inside, but the build itself was a monument so they couldn't change that. I love the detailing, it's so on point!
I actually LOVE the build/buy of the Batuu pack. Or even an Arts center (it’s a really useful lot type but the one in San Myshuno is kind of lame).
I love when James uploads a new build video! I always watch them while eating meals for whatever reason, so its nice you uploaded it right before my lunch time hehe
This whole build gives off the vibes of a shoe factory as well, more specifically, 1950's style factory from the original Jumanji movie... it"s absolutely awesome
I really think Max Power could do with a new mansion whenever you jump back into Super Sim gameplay. Maybe a nice renovated factory mansion for the Sims nicest eternally youthful sim? The build is very fun. I struggle with old looking industrial builds and it is fun to watch others tackle them. The boss's overlook office gave me such a laugh!
It could have been an old shoe or toy factory, with those shelves. Also, this build would be a really great place to do like, a squatter LP or something along those lines.
I liked the shelves. If it was a furniture store you would have wood on shelves and flat packs and all sorts of packing stuff on shelves. I love this build. Can’t wait to download it and start playing with it. I think it would be a cool night club or science building for get to work
I actually work in a furniture factory, and we do have shelves “racks” like those, they are just much larger scale, I can easily walk under them. We use forklifts to put the stuff in the racks
The old mills (factories) in my town have been turned into various things. One has a bunch of artist studios and shops. Another that is smaller has restaurants and brew pubs. A third one has a mix of shops and apartments. Another one was torn down a while back and they put in baseball and soccer fields for the city schools to use. The artist one still has the original hand operated elevator. Very cool.
About the shelves. I work in manufacturing interior furnishings! And built pieces go out the shipping docks. All the parts we use to make the pieces come in on the receiving docks. We have a whole shelving area called the tool crib with all the fasteners etc (screws). So I think one row of shelves towards the interior and then against the walls just racks for the wood sheets and beams, and then a few ramps for the fork. But yeah never thought to imagine how a manufacturing facility would work in the sims, and what would balance to realism and what would fall under forget it it’s a game. W Well done!
I totally see this being something fun to renovate into a hotel or apartment venue! I once went to a wedding at a hotel that was a renovated factory a LOT like this,
I'm working on this myself. Just got done with the exterior and stuff! Did a kitchen, and am about to do dining. This is such a cool space. Like It's huge, but that's what I like about it.
You do definitely need BBB back. It now works when uploading to the gallery to not flag as CC. You can also shift click lights in build mode like TS3 now. I’d love to see you try out TOOL builds too because it’s accessible in build mode now too :)
It's funny cause I originally download TwistedMexi's BetterBuildBuy mode because I saw it on one of James' videos. I love it, so easy to use and update.
@@SarahWatches00 I couldn’t live without it now. It’s great when you have CC installed but don’t wanna use it. You can tag it off and won’t be able to see it in your catalog. Plus the obvious use of finding and duplicating debug and live edit objects
Looks great! I love all the little details you put in to make the place look abandoned. Looks pretty gross, yet also a prime spot for renovation! Interested to see what some of the renovations look like!
recommendation for lighting lower levels in a tall build like this: there are 'ambient wall lights' and 'ambient ceiling lights' in the live edit/debug menu. the wall lights basically disappear into the wall but still light up the area that they are placed in. ceiling lights can be raised and they lay flush with the ceiling (but I think are still visible in gameplay. I use these all of the time when I make faux light fixtures out of debug items, I'll place one of these around to give the illusion that it's actually lighting up the space even if it isn't actually a functioning light. also, if you use mods at all, for the ceilings I use theofficialeunola's ceiling replacement mod, it lets you change the ceiling to whatever in game flooring pattern you want. I use it for photos of my builds.
It would be so cool if we could do markets with several different shops and vendors! I imagine this as a cool renovated place to go that has a small art gallery, a cafe, a book store, yoga studio, etc. How fun would that be?? I wish it was possible in the sims.
I watch a lot of FGG and the abandoned builds she does are super cool. If they came out with like a "Crap Kit" or Abandoned Kit I would buy that in an instant.
I could see you renovating this into apartments on the upper levels and maybe a cafe, retail, or combination of shops at the bottom so it can be used as a home, a job, or a community lot!
When I was in uni a neighboring building had formerly been an old mill during the time of steam power so it had chimneys. This building reminds me of it and it was converted into condo spaces. I wish we could do our own apartment builds.. combine it with a shop and community space... It would be perfect
Textiles! They made textiles. Look along the Hudson Valley, NY, USA. Lots of stuff like that. They had big chimneys like that. They do like making apartments out of them too. Great idea!
Pittsburgh PA has some awesome old steel mills that look very similar to this. Those big smoke stacks from San Moschino look like ones they have down in the waterfront.
I have ideas… I like this form of a shell challenge! And I don’t have to worry about removing some items, since I don’t have all the packs. 😂 Too bad we can’t make functional apartments, it would be a perfect apartment building! BTW, I love the Batuu B&B items, they’re perfect for builds like this.
This would be interesting as a community space. Then you can renovate it three times.
Agreed!
I second this!
I had a similar thought.
such a good idea!

This is super creative! Love the small details
Textiles! They made textiles. Look along the Hudson Valley, NY, USA. Lots of stuff like that. They had big chimneys like that. They do like making apartments out of them too. Great idea!
I would love to see a co-op marketplace in this with lots of stalls where you could buy craftable items.
That looks like a perfect community lot waiting to be turned into a bar with lounge area or even a factory themed restaurant. :)
Epic, I love these builds!!
Pittsburgh PA has some awesome old steel mills that look very similar to this. Those big smoke stacks from San Moschino look like ones they have down in the waterfront.
This would make a cool wedding venue with some renovations.
Really truly a great build.
