On August 2, 2024, around 2:27 PM, Trooper Gannon Tiller initiated a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 49 near Texarkana, Arkansas, after spotting a white 2013 Dodge Charger driving recklessly at 121 mph. The driver, a black male with long hair wearing a black t-shirt, was fleeing southbound from Miller County, Arkansas.
The chase began near the 24-mile marker after the Charger dangerously passed vehicles on the shoulder. Despite several Tactical Vehicle Interventions (TVIs) and attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver continued to evade capture, speeding through multiple intersections and re-entering I-49 southbound. The pursuit reached speeds of up to 120 mph as the suspect disregarded traffic signs and endangered other drivers.
The Charger, identified by its Louisiana license plate 670GJI, eventually crashed near West Fork Kelly Bayou in Texarkana. Unfortunately, Trooper Tiller's vehicle was disabled after hitting a cable barrier during the pursuit. Despite this setback, the driver, identified as Xavier Javuan Wright, was apprehended by Caddo Parish Deputies after attempting to flee on foot.
Wright now faces multiple felony charges, including Fleeing by Vehicle with Substantial Risk, Aggravated Assault, and Battery 2nd Degree with Injury to Law Enforcement. The pursuit also revealed additional passengers in the vehicle, adding to the complexity of the incident.

The TWO witnesses that stopped to aid the Trooper (you hear them on mic off camera) attest to CLEARLY seeing the perp knock him off the road. So, you either didn't watch the WHOLE video or you're choosing to completely IGNORE this very important detail.

I actually ghosted a cop over 20 years ago. I was a teenager with a brand new jet black mustang with tinted windows and chrome rims and did some crazy stuff in it. Was speeding on a 2 lane highway without a center divider when a cop went by in the opposite direction. Figured he likely clocked me and when I looked in my rear view mirror I could see he was preparing to pull a U turn, but there was a lot of traffic so I knew I had time once I got out of his vision to find somewhere to turn off real fast. Fortunately, there was a parking lot for some business right there that I quickly pulled into and immediately parked the car. A couple seconds later, the cop absolutely FLEW by going the direction I was going trying to catch up with me 😇

As someone who has done motorsport racing, that's what it called weight transfer.
When you slam on the brakes, all your vehicle's weight goes forward pushing the front wheels down to the ground, and the front gets a lot of traction. At the same time, the weight comes up off the rear wheels making the rear of the car light, have less traction, and be prone to sliding out from under you. If not controlled properly, this can cause a crash.
I don't believe the other vehicle made any contact with the state trooper's vehicle at the time of the initial slide towards the median, or at least not enough to cause a crash. I believe the officer was too focused on the other vehicle's unpredictable movements which "tricked" the officer into unsettling his own car, and eventually crashing on his own.
I'm glad the officer is ok, and hopefully he can learn something from this to be better prepared in the future.
(Side note: Weight transfer isn't always a bad thing, professional race car drivers use weight transfer to their advantage by using a technique called "trail braking." It's basically using your rear tires to help steer your car into a corner while braking without going into a full-on drift which would otherwise kill your speed throughout a corner. The state trooper "Jacob Byrd" uses this technique when he is able to in his pursuits, hence how much better he is able to take corners than most of his suspects, but under your average everyday driving situation, it is not needed unless you take your car to a "track day" event at a race track.)

@@magreeable California the max speed for a safe pit maneuver is 35mph, in Illinois the pit maneuver is considered to be lethal force when done above 35mph, you're not trying to stop a fleeing suspect, you're trying to kill them.

Played him like a violin. He remained in control of the pursuit rather than the officer being in control. He dictated the moves and the officer had to react, rather than the other way around. He's going to live rent-free in the officer's head for quite some time....

I live in GA and this chase would have been over 2-4 minutes in the video via GSP.

I will agree this guy must be a rookie when it comes to pursuits because in other videos of Arkansas troopers would take any and all opportunities even if that means totaling their car while stopping them. It's wild. I wish the California highway patrol would adopt Georgia and Arkansas way of handling pursuits.

The suspect didn't pit the trooper. It doesn't even sound or look like the vehicles made contact. If the suspect did pit the trooper, then the trooper's vehicle would have spun in the opposite direction of where he ended up. This is basic physics.

I don't agree with fleeing from cops, but this was some masterful driving. Alot of these cops can't drive & sometimes you just have to let the chase go, so innocent people don't get hurt. Put your ego down.

I noticed a couple things. only ONE officer was chasing him. every video I've seen, they always, I mean, ALWAYS, have back-ups, but this cop didn't have any back-up. another thing I noticed, either the officer was a rookie driver, or the getaway driver is a professional race driver.
There could be a variety of factors to this. Arkansas is a rural state and I'm not sure how many troopers they actually have but regardless, the trooper per land ratio seems pretty big based on some of the other videos I've seen from ASP. As far as this chase goes, the guy he chased probably has done this before in both Arkansas and Louisiana

Most videos you see are in Troop A which is "Little Rock" Arkansas and they have the most troopers station there. This is "Texarkana" which is Troop G, they have way less troopers

The charger did not pit him. It does appear that the charger was trying to set him up to pit him a few times however. The officer lost control because he slammed the brakes and turned the wheel at the same time. When you hit the brakes, weight transfers off the rear onto the front, and if you turn the wheel at the same time you will get oversteer! When driving race cars will often trail break entering the turns, dragging the brake to help the car turn if it’s tight. And sometimes actually be on the brakes and slightly on the gas at the same time if the car is very on edge and you’re trying to get more speed out of it for a qualifying run or such.
Trooper definitely was not pitted or side swiped, he just lost control of his vehicle.
I have seen an actual video of a car pitting a state trooper. What happened is the trooper is chasing a suspect but does not realize there was a second vehicle which pits the trooper allowing the 2 vehicles to temporarily get away.

Police officer swerved at high speed - don't think the cars even touched.
Cutting the wheel at 35 mph is one thing. At 60mph your going to skid. At 100mph, you have to worry about the aerodynamics as well. Bottom line, he put the car into a skid and didn't have the room to correct and stay on the road - he straightened out the car... but it was pointing to other side of the road. A decent recovery on his part - but it looks like he did it to himself.
Note: the fleeing driver can be charged for that as well. If you lead the police on a high speed chase, typically you are responsible for EVERYTHING that happens during that chase.
I waited 15 mins to watch how he was gonna pull off something so masterful, only to realize this video was technically clickbait. I can’t put a like on this one, you could have got away with saying, driver tries to pit maneuver, but he wasn’t even behind him when the trooper actually lost control. He hit the brakes while trying to turn at too high rate of a speed and lost control himself.

After watching these for over a year. What is amazing to me is. You never see any old, overweight , and very few women, State Troopers. Mostly white males under 40 look like they just came from the gym. What in Arkansas after 35 if you don't get buffed they put you behind a desk??.

Trooper slammed on his brakes and swerved to the left. To regain control, he let of the brake and at that speed he had no choice but to go that direction.

The Trooper should have known early that a PIT wasn't an option. Should have had stop sticks out ahead of them and just called out location updates.
