My late father told my siblings and me that if the police ever called him to come and pick us up for something "stupid" that we'd better have a quarter to call somebody else or the police could keep us. "You get in trouble by yourself then you can get OUT of trouble by yourself." We never put that to the test. None of us ever got in trouble. 10 young people in a 5 compacity car while driving 90+ MPH. The ending to this story could have been tragic.

Dam that was stupid an scary. I lived in a state where laws had be passed that police cannot engage in hi speed chasing. My three children husband an I was coming home th of July an a speeding car passed us in our mini van. This was before the laws had changed. The speeders didn't even come close to us however the 3 troopers almost ran my family off the road. On a hyway no traffic late at night. They could see the headlights up the hyway. It was a two lane hyway not enough room for 3 troopers traveling at hi rates weaving around my family split second off goes my passenger mirror one cop passed on the left shoulder. One on my ass one in the passing lane. At first they had no overhead lights on until they got to us. Certainly opened my eyes.

'Don't ever let me get a phone call from the police because you did something stupid" They would want to stay with the police for protection because if I come down there to pick them up they'd wish that they never got in trouble in the first place. The phone call never came from the police and my boys never got in trouble with the law. Now they are 36 & 33 years old and they have famiies of their own and well adjusted men. He said since they were punishing me too he would talk to the judge…. @@johnmichaelkarma Perhaps you misunderstand where I come from? If I were in a car with someone driving like that from the police trying to kill me, my friends in the car, and other drivers on the road, I'd be very angry at their attempts to kill myself, the other passengers in the car, and aggressively try to stop them. Perhaps I would not have actually pounded on them, but I would have subdued for the police to be able to detain him and/or been hollering "he tried to kill us all!" I grant you that there may have been one or two victims of circumstance who found themselves in that car, but again where was their defensive behavior to the maniac driving? The bulk of them knew better and all should have verbally and physically insisted the driver stop. Also, I do know, teens are idiots. People should be careful trying to deflect their accountability for the situations they find themselves in because of the choices they make. Don't make excuses for their idiotic behavior. Unfortunately, I've had to pick up a teen when the police called. Similarly he found himself with a group of about ten other boys around his age where one of them had the great idea to go through neighborhoods and tear up people's yards, steal items, and destroy city and private property. Initially they all pointed fingers at each other and no one would take responsibility. In my view it didn't matter so I set out to make sure that my kid knew and understood that even mere bad judgment in life has serious consequences at times. And that at times it can get you killed. I wanted him to know, because I love him, to associate consequences with his judgment and choices. Fortunately, they had to sweat it out for a couple of weeks while the police and the victims decided whether to refer them to the d.a. for vandalism and destruction of property criminal charges, which they ultimately did not. BUT, during that time my son went to each of the victims, apologized, made arrangements to come and repair and replace the damage, and offered other services for free as punitive payment for what he'd done. I made him introduce himself and do the talking. One of the victims, a vet with ptsd, explained to him how lucky he was to not have been shot creeping around his house at 3 in the morning due to his post-war problems sleeping and hearing noises in the night. I also explained to him how lucky he was to not have been shot by the police. That vet had more of an impact on him that any of the sweat and work he had to do as retribution. He spoke to him "man to man" and I could see it in my son's face, something clicked. He copped to his participation, took responsibility and was held accountable for his less than criminal but bad judgment. My son has gone on to live a crime free life. I long for these kids to sincerely appreciate how close they came to being killed because of the sad fact we have some trigger happy and racist officers who don't give two cents about life. Thank goodness for this outstanding officer here or they may well have been killed in an aggressive p.i.t. maneuver or shot bailing out of the STOLEN vehicle the way they did. More bad judgment on their part, as they are old enough to know better. Their parents should kiss them in gratitude of still having them alive and then make sure they understand that other human life has value and they are playing with a serious and potentially deadly matter when they are in a vehicle in this manner. My two cents for what it's worth. Don't care if you agree, but hope you may understand where my head is at. I don't believe in making criminals out of every idiot teen.

One nightmare that still haunts me is that of 5 young people in a stolen SUV who were trying to run away to Florida. They were fleeing the state patrol, lost control and crashed.
Two of the five ended up DEAD. all under 20 years of age. A beautiful young girl with flowing red hair died in my hands as we cut the crushed door to free her from the wreckage. We had two large bore IVs flowing and two helicopters arrived on scene during the extrication process. Bright, full moon. I cried and apologized to her when some of her long beautiful red hair got stuck in the zipper of the body bag.
    Too much death and destruction.
The driver was charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide along with the stolen vehicle and host of other charges related to the theft and pursuit.
Two lives lost, three affected for life.
I've treated, packaged, and flown out an officer friend that was so badly injured that he was unrecognizable.
    Nobody wins in these situations.

As a 21 yo nurse working SICU/BU, back in 1971, the things I saw were horrifying. Drunk driver crashed into a deputies car, drunk was fine, deputy has small forehead scratch & spinal injury at Cervical 6-7, with brain stem involvement above C1. His wife came in, 8 months pregnant. He was on a respirator, kept going into cardiac & respiratory arrest. We could not save him. Another crash - 2 young guys. One paralyzed from high cervical fracture, his buddy was burned (2nd & 3rd degree) over 80% of his body - he could feel everything, I don’t think either made it. First responders, ER, SICU & Burn Unit staff are all witnesses to trauma. We don’t forget what we’ve seen. It affects all of us, right down to the tow truck drivers. I don’t think people understand how the trauma we witness is life altering. Much of it could be avoided, kids learning to drive need to see what we see & there has to be consequences for their stupid actions. It’s not just them that are affected. But 50+ years later & it still goes on. Thank God there are people willing to put in the 100’s of hours of training & working in the field to help those who do these crazy actions. This carload was fortunate with no injuries, that is not usually the case. My guess is that they will not suffer any major consequences for their crimes & they will do it again. 🙏 to all who make the commitment to help others & don’t expect anything in return.

When the valedictorian says I "graduated high school" instead of "from high school" things are bad. Government schools tend to do that. Like a clown car. We had a 1960 4-door Renault. My Dad was driving us to church. The priest was outside greeting everyone. My Dad pulled up in the front, my Mom got out with the baby, we 3 older kids were holding the 3 other kids in our laps. The priest had his mouth hanging open as he counted the 9 of us climbing out of that little car. Was real safe, lol. We were so crammed in there that we most likely wouldn't have been thrown around in a crash. The look on Father's face was priceless.
Ten young people in there was crazy. They're lucky they didn't roll that Jeep going that fast on that winding road. Bet they'll think twice before getting into a car like that again. Sounds like they didn't know the driver. Insane!

Anyway, one of us spotted a cop car, so we all hid in some bushes. Less than 5 min later, a sheriffs deputy walked up right next to my bush and knelt down until our eyes met. I remember saying "Oh my God", to which he replied "God can't help you now son". He was right, the wrath that my mom unleashed on me was far worse than anything God would have deemed appropriate.

US are far too lenient on what they call juveniles. Here in England, you are an adult at the age of 16 so you better behave. My son watched as some kids threw stones at windows and he was charged because he was 13. He got a years probation which meant that he could go to jail if anything else happened. At 15, he watched a bunch of kids ripping a fence down at the local pool. He was taken to the police station and they called me. I told them to deal with him as he knew what would happen. My mother went to the station at 2am as she felt bad for him. I did a little, but wanted him to realize that he had done wrong. He wasnt charged, but they kept him afraid for some time. He was more upset that his grandma had to pick him up and never did another thing. Some times you have to scare the crap out of them before they learn. I would have never let my son get away with this behaviour - not that he would dare do such a thing. He is now 37 and a great human being. He would still be under house arrest if he had done this lol

Once they get into your car you're responsible for them and everything they bring into your car. I once got stopped driving home from work with other riders in my vehicle, I was giving them rides to and from work. An officer stopped me because he said I went over the yellow line. I explained to the officer that I had 2 cans of soda pop that rolled under my feet toward the door, which I showed him and that we were just leaving work which was only 2 blicks from where he stopped me. Thank goodness the policeman didn't check anyones I.D. but mine. One of my passengers had a warrant out for him and another passenger had weed on him. I stopped giving rides after this and they had to find a different way to and from work. You should have seen how scared those two idiots were. We all lucked out, even me because I didn't get a ticket. Be careful of who you let in your car, truck or any moving vehicle.

I'm super curious about what was being said inside the Jeep during the chase. Were they encouraging him to run? Were they telling him to stop? Were they freaking out? Were they excited? Part of me thinks they were all telling him to keep going, and then they changed their tune once they were finally stopped.

i actually know most of the people in the car and the driver was scared and everybody else was yelling something different . He didn't know how to react to any of that and he was under a lot of pressure but i also don't know why he didn't stop, it was a stupid decision...

I went to a lower middle class public school in a rural area in the 1980s. In either late elementary school or junior high we learned how to write checks and form letters, had civics classes... these kids don't know what "legibly" means and had to ask if "01" was January? Are you f*cking kidding me?

I make no excuses for these young men, and I know they have to be held accountable. I am just so thankful there were no injuries To anyone. I can’t imagine the thoughts that went though the officer‘a head as he saw TEN men get out of that SUV. Once he pitted it and they unloaded, everyone was cooperative and respectful. Even though I have no idea what criminal history the young men have or don’t have. From what was shown on the video, I trust they will be thankful they didn’t cause a catastrophic collision. May God continue to bless the officer with wisdom, patience, and courage, and with a hedge of protection as he serves his public as a genuine peace officer. Kudos, Sir, to you and your brothers in blue.
I also trust these young men will “give thanks in everything”, realize things could have gone so much worse, and see this situation as a turning point to get their lives in order.
