We outfit all our apprentice technicians tool carts / boxes with tekton tools . They are dependable, affordable, great warranty . Are they Snap On ? No but they do not need to be. The only thing we haven't bought them is the wrenches ( instead we use a combination of snap on - gear wrench ) for everything else impact /chrome socket sets ,ratchets ,screw drivers ,pliers ,hammers ( hammers are made by Trusty cook ) punch sets, pry bars . So far we have been extremely happy using their tools for our apprenticeship program . Tekton's warranty and customer service is first class . I'd advise any lower tier tech and or apprentice or diy'er to look into and purchase their tool sets. You get incredible value ,durability with them , and especially starting as a technician you need more bang for your bucks .
One thing I noticed about Tekton is that they have attractive bundles like Sears used to. In the day, a Craftsman bundle could save you a lot of money. If I had a kid going to trade school, I would buy him a Tekton bundle to start him with just in case there was going to be a career change. If someone decides not to enter the trade, a $1500 set of tools is still an asset, a $10,000 set of tool truck brand would probably be a burden. There is plenty of time to transition over to the primo tools once someone is working.
I am not partial to any type or brand of tools and I’ve been turning wrenches for 40 yrs as a DIYer I’ve been working with tools since very young and I have a lot of tool truck tools and I’m more recently been buying tekton I have the 1/2impacts shallow and 3/8 impact shallow and three torque wrenches.. I’m very satisfied with them and feel they make a very quality product for the price.. additionally, their return policy is phenomenal.. I had a flex head 1/4 ratchet that the socket keeper ball was damaged in the drive and just took a pic and sent it to them and seriously a brand new replacement came next day. Since then I am very pleased with this company. But as I need supplement more stuff this company will be my first choice now.. good video 👍🏻
That's great to hear! I was wondering how they were with their warranty. Glad to hear they really do what they claim they do! I will definitely be doing more videos on their products! Thanks for watching!
Dude, you've got what it takes to make this channel a lot bigger. Subscribed. I'm one of the 'older guys' who knows that Snap-On isn't the be-all-end-all. They have some nice stuff that's worth the price, and a lot of tools that we can do without. No shame in buying Tekton or Gearwrench or even Harbor Freight depending on the application.
The prices are so high for Snap On wrenches now… The truck comes to my shop every Tuesday and not much is bought from him anymore. And he sure gets miffed about returns when you aren’t buying lolNapa Carlyle are not shabby and a fraction of the price.
Your right. Even harbor freight sockets now are usable. The warranty is big for me plus just the size of the sets. I don't know of many other brands that go that wide range with no skips. Thanks for watching!!
Good video. Some years back my top chest was stole filled with SnapOn, Mac and Proto. This was a huge set back. Over the years Ive been buying second hand Snap On wrenches and Proto, but now Im finding Carlyle from Napa are great for way less. Thinking of buying a huge set of Tekton now. Doesn’t look like theres anything to lose with lifetime warranty all the same.
Honestly man I want one of those for myself lol. Don't wanna spend that money right now but I absolutely love those sockets man. Use them every day and I am never missing a size I need.
You can buy a toolbox from them for about $7,000, comes with all their wrenches, sockets, ratchets, screwdrivers, and pliers. Not only are their tools great but their boxes are top of the line as well. If I had a kid getting out of trade school I would absolutely buy that box and have him make payments to me. If you let your kid buy the same products off the snap on truck he'll be paying $7.000 for the box alone at 30% interest and probably another $15,000 to buy those same tools. You're getting 95% of the quality for 25% of the cost.
I just ordered me a 12 point chrome socket set in 3/8 drive. Was disassembling an engine today and ran into 12 point fasteners. Didn’t want to break the bank and buy from the truck brands when I’ll rarely be using 12 points so for 64 bucks (68 after taxes) I couldn’t pass on the Tekton set!!!
@@GranttheMechanic-jc5nd I’m looking forward to using them. I hear nothing but good things about Tekton. I was gonna go with gearwrench but I’m glad I didn’t.
Tekton sockets and wrenches are great man been holding up in everyday shop use they been getting beat up with my Milwaukee 3/8 and 1/2 impacts and take it no problem. I don’t use chrome on impacts though some people do.
That's great to hear. I'm gonna have to pick up some of their impact sockets for sure! I'll be doing another video in the future of how these hold up. Thanks for watching!
i can say that hf earthquake red 1/2 impacts are excellent. I bought mine in 99 for $49. and it still works after decades of heavy dealership abuse. so if you need a good 1/2 impact get this one
Hello Grant I just found your channel and subscribed. Thank you for the tool review. I don't currently own any Tekton tools. I've been looking and researching for my next tool purchase. Again thank you 😊
I have both the tekton sets been using them everyday as a mechanic for 4 years never lost one never broke one however I do feel that snap on sockets are a tighter fit on bolts but for the price you can’t beat it
used to be able to buy tekton at KMART back in the day not sure if you still can - im a maintenance tech and one of the older dudes has a sae socket set in his toolbox from like 15 years ago. definitely nice stuff.
I bought a Benchtop brand ratchet at Kmart years ago and it held up better than the Craftsman sockets that I put on it. The trigger finally broke on it and I took it back for a replacement. They didn’t have one but they offered to give me my money back. I told them that I paid about $8 for it so they gave me $8 and tax. Don’t get service like that anymore.
Tekton tools are really making some good stuff at very fair pricing. There ratchets are very strong and reliable 90tooth. There hammers, angle wrenches, and crows foot / line wrenches are all USA made. I own all of those and don’t think Snap on is any better.
Well, the first thing to say is that at $20 per socket, the Snap-Ons better last three lifetimes. I don’t know how they get away with prices like that, but clearly they do, and in fact we have manufacturers here in Germany with a similar reputation and similar prices, like Hazet. Good for them, I guess. Tool manufacturers live by their reputation, and if you’re a trusted brand and your stuff can be seen in motorsports paddocks or you’ve had a contract for making on-board tool kits for famous car brands, people will pay up. It also depends on your location: if you make tools in Germany or Japan, people will trust them. If you make tools in the USA, at least Americans will trust them. And another thing that explains the success of certain brands is the “buy once, cry once” rule: everybody tells you to save up for the trusted, expensive thing instead of making compromises. The Snap-Ons probably are better, whatever that means: maybe they’re less likely to wear out, maybe they’re made to more exacting standards and have a more precise fit. Does it matter? Time will tell. They’re definitely not magic. Being a hobbyist, I buy my sockets as I need them - so far I’ve only ever needed a few common sizes, and I spent between 5 and 10 bucks on a socket. I might fill in the gaps with stuff I can find at flea markets, or I might continue to buy new ones as I need them , who knows. Anyway, looking at those Tekton sets, I would expect them to be quite good and I would probably go for something in that price range, because while they’re a lot cheaper than the Snap-Ons, they’re by no means dirt cheap. A scam? Not at that price. I have a small Tekton woodworking vice and it’s not amazing, but not bad at all - and at $50, it wasn’t dirt cheap, either. It checks out. That’s something I always look for, and it’s increasingly hard to find: a decent product for a decent price. I don’t see a lot of sensible products anymore, it doesn’t seem to be a winning business model: people either make high end, hilariously expensive stuff, or they join the race to the bottom and make cheap, flimsy crap. Sometimes these things are designed to fail, but most of the time they’re just bad. Tekton say they make 75 % of their tools in Taiwan - I take that as a good sign. I’m sure it’s perfectly possible to have inferior stuff made there, but all the tools I have from there have been excellent, matching the good reputation.
Completely agree. Not the most expensive tools on earth but they perform the task that they were designed to do. And to me a tool that does its job over and over and over again is a good tool. Thanks for watching!
I own the 1/4 SAE & metric chromes, the 3/8 SAE & Metric Chrome and Impact, and 1/2 SAE & Metric Chromes. Have had nothing but great things to say about them.
I'm just putting this out there but if you live somewhat close to a harbor freight I'd look at the icon pliers and the ratchets are pretty nice as well and they just put out a quinn socket/ratchet combo that's really competes with the tekton sets
I haven't been disappointed by my tekton stuff. but If you can get the Milwaukee impacts on a holiday discount would go for them though, they are thinner wall the numbers stand out more and with a good discount they run about tekton prices.
I bought their master set for $125 a few years ago. Came with a ratchet, breaker bar ect. Set has paid for itself several times over. I don't care for their trays. I got all my sockets in Hansen trays. All organized and labeled.
I do like the tekton tools I have, but their prices have gone up quite a bit the last few years. I'd personally rather have vim, gearwrench, capri or sunex for the $
I have one small Tekton screwdriver/ security bit set. It was nice but it rusted after a few months. It stays inside at my PC desk so no moisture. A lot of the bits rusted. Not impressed.
I got the gear wrench set honestly it sucked broke me of them and have been impossible to warrenty them the sockets have been amazing so far have made tons of money with them .
I can't wait for them to come out. The only reason I went for tekton for my main work box is the coverage of sizes at the price that tekton offers. Icon still can't compete! Thanks for watching!
now I always buy IMPACT sockets, you can use them for everything got tired of the chrome flaking off, and it's so shiny and BLACK is so cool looking yeah... Snap-On is way too $$$ anymore
I have all the complete sets from 1/4 to 3/8 to 1/2 inch. I love that I was able to order them all in 6 point. I can't remember in the last 3 years ever stripping a bolt or nut. Have never broke any of them. Would and will always recommend tekton sockets. Now I need to get all the impact sockets to match my chrome sockets. I just wish they all was cro moly instead of a mix of chrome vanadium and cro moly. But I'm sure they will be just fine !
@@GranttheMechanic-jc5nd I scored on a the two torque wrench (1/2 & 3/8 split beam two pack, a 24inch long handle ratchet and a 7 piece lug nuts impact socket 👍😁
When time comes to retire or crisis, your SnapOn collection is worth thousand of dollars, Tekton will give you in return a couple of nickels in a flea market.
The trays are made by ernst, socket boss. Tekton sockets are the only tools i have returned in the last 5 or 6 years. The broaching sucks compared to other brands. They are a cheap socket and they look cheap.
@narcissistinjurygiver2932 I started with at them when I worked at a high collision shop back in 2000 01 ish. They were trash. Chrome peeled on multiple sockets cut my so bad in between my fingers I needed surgery to repair the nerve damage. We worked on cars that were 250k and up the tolerances were absolute garbage. I have had snap on sockets sine the age of 17 and never looked back. Hammers suck, they fall apart, ratchets are backwards, and they feel like crap. I worked at Ford for almost a decade. I don't want to hear that I'm a professional, which means nothing. I was once a professional and decided to start my own business. It's great they work for you. It's all personal opinion. I have always been able to afford tools off the trucks and not hold a balance, I do have economicly priced tools as well I like grey pneumatic mayhew a little older gearwrench few other things. End of the day choose what works for you. HF doesn't fit the bill for me
@@GranttheMechanic-jc5nd I understand but anyone who buys Snap On realizes that they are getting a serious premium price and sometimes it's just for the name and other times it's for a seriously great quality tool. I love Snap On but they are getting out of hand. $800 for the 5 piece XLong metric flexhead ratcheting wrench and double box end wrenches when the new Tekton coming in November probably be under $300, u also have Icon, Gearwrench, used to have Mountain, KD TOOL etc for under $300. That's a crazy premium. Don't get me wrong they look awesome but $800 for 5 wrenches? I heard their complete set SAE N METRIC FLANK DRIVE PLUS COMBINATION WRENCH SET IS ABOUT $2500. ALL I CAN SAY IS, ID RATHER BUY A PROJECT VEHICLE FOR THAT.
Lol, absolutely. I'll be doing many more budget tool reviews. And who knows, if snapon makes something no one else has for a reasonable price, I may have to pick it up, lol!
To many skips the 3/8 is missing 11/32 and half inch don't have a 19/32 - 21/32 and 25/32 that u use on Mercedes and u said no skips u can't even order them online
This set comes with 11/32, 3/8, and 1/2in deep and shallow sockets. The other sizes are extremely specialized sizes! That being said this set is comparable to most sets in this price range. Thanks for watching!
Mercedes uses SAE? Interesting. I’ve always used metric since their bolts are stamped with metric markings. I guess I’ve been doing it wrong all these years.
@Volksoner619 haha I was thinking the same thing. I don't work on many German vehicles but I didn't think they would use American sizes lol. Thanks for watching!
Good luck finding 19/32 -21/32-25/32 socket that's not 12 point made recently unless your an aircraft mechanic or work on pre 1960 vehicles probably won't need it and all those size probably have a metric equivalent...
Tekton are ok, but they are not for heavy-duty or constant use applications. They will snap pretty quickly if u over stress them. Husky holds up better.
I've been nothing but thrilled with each tekton tool I own. No shade to any company. Tekton having no skip sets just can't be beat
100 percent agree. Find a bigger set then tekton lol. Thanks for watching bro!

I will have more Harbor Freight videos soon. I have used many of their tools for almost three years now! Thanks for watching!
I haven't been disappointed by my tekton stuff. but If you can get the Milwaukee impacts on a holiday discount would go for them though, they are thinner wall the numbers stand out more and with a good discount they run about tekton prices.
I've got some buddies that have the milwaukee sockets and they seem pretty nice. Thanks for watching!
I bought their master set for $125 a few years ago. Came with a ratchet, breaker bar ect. Set has paid for itself several times over.
I don't care for their trays. I got all my sockets in Hansen trays. All organized and labeled.
That's awesome. I do love those blow molded case sets. I also love hansen trays that's what I have in my home box! Thanks for watching bro!
I have tekton tools… no complaints so far
Thanks for watching!
I do like the tekton tools I have, but their prices have gone up quite a bit the last few years. I'd personally rather have vim, gearwrench, capri or sunex for the $
That is true but they do make warranty super simple!
Snapon prices are absolutely ridiculous.
@@davidsharp922 agreed
I work on aircraft and many of our guys including me run tekton sockets. No issues so far they are pretty nice no size skips
I been running them hard every day since that video and haven't had a single complaint!
I like Tekton tools but I`d like their deep well sockets to have a ridge on the inside to stop the nut from falling to the bottom of the socket.
That is a convenient feature of snap on sockets. Thanks for watching!
SK sockets also have the broach that won`t let the nut fall all the way down in the socket.
I have one small Tekton screwdriver/ security bit set. It was nice but it rusted after a few months. It stays inside at my PC desk so no moisture. A lot of the bits rusted. Not impressed.
They used to be a good value. Prices are too high now.
Tekton ALL DAY BABY 😂 LOVE THEIR TOOLS 🔥
Yes sir! Thanks for watching!
I'm a heavy duty diesel mechanic I agree I have alot of tekton stuff there dope
I agree! Thanks for watching!
Love all the TEKTON stuff I bought, but I still love Snap-on at the end of the day too!!
I love tools lol! Thanks for watching!
You don't have to hate one to love the other. My toolbox is filled with every manufacturer
@@tomwinslow5086 absolutely! Thanks for watching!
My only complaint is they are deep broached
Tekton open end wrenches did not perorm well in my tests. The Craftsman made in China out performed Tekon by alot.
I will have to check them out! Thanks for the info and thanks for watching!
I got the gear wrench set honestly it sucked broke me of them and have been impossible to warrenty them the sockets have been amazing so far have made tons of money with them .
Love to hear it. Thanks for watchin!
My son has a tekton set and he loves them.
Lolol
Weird. My brother has one too
TH-cam gonna ban me for yall tryna push the video😂😂😂
Trkton are good but Icon are better. And Icon will be stocking new ratchet/socket sets.
I can't wait for them to come out. The only reason I went for tekton for my main work box is the coverage of sizes at the price that tekton offers. Icon still can't compete! Thanks for watching!
now I always buy IMPACT sockets, you can use them for everything
got tired of the chrome flaking off, and it's so shiny
and BLACK is so cool looking
yeah... Snap-On is way too $$$ anymore
Completely agree! The impact sockets do look awesome. Thanks for watching!
Snap-on do the same socket rails probably at twice the price.
Lolol pretty close. Thanks for watching
Like tekton a lot, all their tools seem very solid. That being said prices have seen a decent increase over the last two years
Haha yeah that is true. That seems to be true for just about anything now! Thanks for watching!
I bought an impact socket set and let me tell you their quality is excellent. A bit expensive if you ask me.
They are pretty pricey but well worth it for what you get!
I have a few hammers from them ,, madenin USA , ans i have their wrenches. And 1 pic set . Wrenches and pics made in taiwain
That's great to hear. I will also be getting more tools from tekton! Thanks for watching!
Cool now do the ICON brand from Harbor Freight
Haha u got it. That is the one of the next video believe it or not lol!
tekton works great. better than icon IMO
Snap-On is the Yeti of the tool world. Nothing but a name and status symbol for over priced products now.
I would have to agree sadly for the large majority of their products. They definitely don't hold up to the reputation set 50 years ago.
They are decent enough,I have a set of the long flexible ratcheting wrenches in 6 point and man are they nice.
The ratcheting wrenches are super unique with the six point design. Super cool. Thanks for watching!
I have them also, they are nice. I bought mine in a pawn shop for less than half price.
@paulmatteson9387 even better when you can find a deal lol!
I know I love twist lock rails!
Dude I love them it keeps everything so solid
Be liking capri as well as tekton….
Capri is a brand I've been wanting to check out for sure. I've heard good things! Thanks for watching!
Tekton is good but think better alternative to Craftsman or Kobalt.
Craftsman and Kobalt are also great brands! You won't quite get the coverage the same as tekton tho! Thank you for watching
Nice burn bro. (dw im a welder I feel your pain)
Haha actually got that from a piece of slag that fell right down my glove😂😂😂 thanks for watching!
@@GranttheMechanic-jc5nd Yup. that is why I stopped wearing cargo pants with side pockets. Slag is by far the worst burn hazard.
@@C144RE oh absolutely. Definitely doesn't feel good😂😂
what is the length of the tray?
Sorry I'm just getting back to you I was on vacation. Both trays are 19.5 inch by 3.5. Thanks for watching!
I wish I knew about them when I started out
Lololol! That's what I'm trying to show people!
Thanks.... good to know....I must look into it
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
At their website now.... price are pretty good.... any recommendations on their torque wrench..... split beam or micro ?
@@stufftofu personally I like split beam and I know people who like tektons split beam
@@GranttheMechanic-jc5nd I scored on a the two torque wrench (1/2 & 3/8 split beam two pack, a 24inch long handle ratchet and a 7 piece lug nuts impact socket 👍😁
Great to hear! Let me know how they work for you!
When time comes to retire or crisis, your SnapOn collection is worth thousand of dollars, Tekton will give you in return a couple of nickels in a flea market.
You never retire from being a handy man !!!!
They are worth more, but finding someone to buy them at the original price is hard, because of the name.
🤡
Tekton is my new brand!
I love them. Thanks for watching!
drop the background music
Thanks for checking out the video I appreciate it!
The trays are made by ernst, socket boss. Tekton sockets are the only tools i have returned in the last 5 or 6 years. The broaching sucks compared to other brands. They are a cheap socket and they look cheap.
Thanks for the input! And thanks for watching!
i have been using Pittsburgh pro and have not had a single socket break since i bought them in 97 and I am a professional mechanic
HF doesn't fit the bill for me
Same line as Walmart tools hell their sold at Miejers
great video. God bless.
Thanks for watching! God bless!
do these tekton sockets fit with craftsman, harbor freight and other ratchets? thats my main concern.
Yes. They are 3/8ths drive. They won't work with a 1/2 in drive or 1/4 inch but they will work with any 3/8ths. Thanks for watching!
@@GranttheMechanic-jc5nd yeah i knew that they only fit their specific size, but i was just curious about fitting different socket brands. thank you!
I love my tekton tools
Love them more every day lol
Tekton all day
Absolutely thanks for watching!
good vid
Thanks for watching!
Tekton rocks.
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
Comparing Snap On to Tekton is comparing chop meat to Angus Filet Mignon. Different $; stratosphere. Tekton m Capri are great for their price point
Thanks for the input. I tried to show the extreme difference in price. Snapon is known for great quality though! Thanks for watching!!
And who knows, if snapon makes something no one else has for a reasonable price, I may have to pick it up, lol!
snap on is not better. i have been turning wrenches for 29 years now and use everything but snap on. they are not worth the money.
Homeowner grade
We will see how they work in a professional environment!! Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for watching!
Tekton are ok, but they are not for heavy-duty or constant use applications. They will snap pretty quickly if u over stress them. Husky holds up better.
Thanks for the input and thanks for watching!
