As a non pro thank you for the info. I like to support MiUSA when I can and for a fair price I went with a few sets of sockets from my local CAT dealer while they are still available. Just a little higher than Harbor Freight’s ICON line in terms of price but supports USA manufacturing. Also lets me avoid the overpriced stuff at Home Depot and Lowes. But to be clear I have no issue with harbor freight personally since im not a pro and dont necessarily need the Snap On quality.
I think the reason the cat stuff is so much cheaper is cat is able to buy a sh*t load of tools at once so they can give there technicians a deal on tools, I read on here that cat tech got all his cat tools at half of full price. I’ve also heard that they don’t want and aren’t really supposed to sell to anyone but cat technicians. That being said Snap-On should be held to account for their crazy prices.
Snap On offers a service, it is a Truck that comes to you, they have inventory on hand for you, if they don't have it they can get it for you. Snap On does not compete with their own dealers so they keep their prices the same as on the truck vs their web site. It costs a lot of money to operate a tool truck, the cost of the truck, insurance on the truck, health insurance for the drive/family, maintenance on the truck, inventory costs and they work long hours having to make many stops each day. This does not count the time they spend receiving product from Snap On that they have to deal with and it does not count the time they spend packaging up warranty claims to send back to Snap On. Now here is my question to you why do you think your shops hourly labor rate is worth $100 plus dollars an hour, I have seen labor rates ranging from $80 dollars an hour to $150 dollars an hour. Answer that and maybe you will start to understand some of what is involved in running a tool truck.
CAT uses snapon Williams Grey canada Jet tools tiger and Mc master car and been doing it since 1977 and at one time you had to be a cat employee or a cat certified mechanic to buy them
Those pliers are definitely snap on pliers They just have yellow grip instead of the other colors They're exactly the same and made in the USA. The wrenches are Williams wrenches They're also made in the USA I have them there's some of the best wrenches you can get They feel amazing in your hands
Dealers are upset because they were told they had exclusive rights to a territory to sell the tools, and the same tools are available at local stores at half the price. That's not exclusive rights. So the dealers paid huge fortune for their territory which they no longer own. Why wasn't it a problem in the 80s and 90s? Because folks didn't know about this loophole. When it blows up on the internet it becomes a thing. Before that, it doesn't exist to most people.
So, doing your research before you invest in a franchise is not your fault got it. I remember when mac did the same to me and then they said it was all in your contracts if you read them so I accepted my failure to be responsible still a hard thing for people to do to this day.
Funny thing is that their website now features what seems to be different style plier set on the cat website. Am I blind or are they now selling another set?
I was wondering did the dealers not know about this? Seems like a lot of people and many techs have known this for decades. My snap on guy stops at the cat dealer after he stops at my shop and he’ll warranty some of the cat tools. Well he’ll warranty them for a few of the guys I know but we also spend good money on his truck too. So he takes care of us.
I believe it's very possible they knew but it wasn't widespread info for a long time. Lately it seems to come up more and more online, as a way to get Snap-on stuff for much cheaper and without either having to chase a truck or bite the full list price if you're not working a place a truck comes to, and for those who are already serviced by a truck, a way to save money. Lots of money. The truck model is predicated on "these are only available through us" with some of the companies also doing online sales but expecting full list, which would push folks more toward the trucks. Now the word is getting spread more that the exclusivity isn't entirely true, and at least has the potential to interrupt the dealer's bottom line when folks pick a different middleman now that they know of that middleman. The territory exclusivity goes out the window, the tool exclusivity pitch goes out the window.
I work at a mine. We have Snap-On, Cat, Williams and a lot of other brands in my department. The Cat wrenches are really nice actually those thick bean ones that have a reduction before the open end. And we have CAT impact sockets that are identical to the snap on’s they just say CAT. Including the pinned universals.
You can’t buy most of the socket sets. My order was not processed and when I talked to them they said they are “restricted” stock they can’t sell them anymore not sure what that really means. They are sold in overseas markets like Australia. Maybe snap on discontinued their private label contract
@@roninbushito that's interesting.. I know the tools have been removed from the search function on the parts store website maybe they are cracking down.. only other way is to call your dealer or go into the parts department with part numbers and ask for cash sale.. it may have something to do with not having an account
What it comes down to is how easy is it to warranty these cat branded tools? If you have to jump through hoops then it’s not worth the money ( in my opinion)
I bought some cat tools in the late 90s at that time they sold a value line it was proto the tools I bought were by snap on the ratchet had a vapor blasted finish it has held up great the finish on the tools is not quite as nice they were a bargain my dealer looked at the sealed ratchet said if it ever needed kitted that he would if he could the pawl was different in my ratchet but buy what you can and hopefully it's what you like there is no bad tools only bad dealers.
I tried to check Cats website, but it’s a pain. I can’t find any of the wrenches, sockets, pliers, etc. may be cheaper but sure is a lot more complicated to buy.
Tbh if you have the time you can smart shop for snap on tools. Some pros absolutely need and want to buy from truck but alot of others dont. Snap on is the best period so might as well buy it. Would rather over pay for tools that are usa made by the actual company than pay 4x price for taiwan rebrands from mac matco or cornwell 😅
@@rockyrococo2584 the majority of the hand tools are, sockets, ratchets, wrenches pliers. Except knipex and bahco of course. The majority of snap on tools from the truck are oosa made. Go on the Mac truck every single thing you look at and touch will say Taiwan on it. I love Mac but they fucked up. I’d rather buy gear wrench now.
People just don’t understand that there may well be differences in metallurgy or other specifications that may reduce costs as well. In fairness, Mac isn’t exactly the same thing because they’re owned by a larger company that owns those other companies. I’ve lost count of how many there are under the SBD umbrella. Craftsman, Mac, Stanley, B&D, USAG, Facom, Dewalt, and god knows who else. And in Mac’s case, it seems to be partly a case of using different names based on what part of the world’s market they’re selling to.
Unpopular opinion: perhaps they're all manufactured as first quality, and they don't cost even nearly as much as what they're gonna charge you. Snap-on is posting Apple-like margins and throwing hundreds of millions of dollars at shareholders annually. Their bottom line is consistently over double what is considered a "normal and healthy" margin for a corporation. And they're making that money selling to dealers, already ripping them off. Now the dealers have to make their expenses (including getting scalped on their inventory) plus whatever they consider a livable salary off of us. Snap-on themselves have posted a decent bit of videos and such showing their processes and we can eke a little more info from that. For example, taking a shine to automation. Each cold-forming socket machine can make a socket that's already over halfway finished (turned from coil fed in to an unbranded socket that already has the square and hex formed in them), and it averages a socket produced per *second* while simultaneously cutting American jobs out of the equation. Their cold-formed pliers also have automation involved, with the "forging" being automatic. Blank goes in, pliers halves that have already been roughed blocked finished and trimmed come out. That's the job of 2 operators gone, saving money, without passing the savings on. They're a business, not a charity, and they exist to make profit sure. That's reasonable. But my gosh you should listen to the recording or read the transcripts of quarterly shareholder conference calls. The CEO talks money a lot of course but does seem to have at least a bit of passion about what they're making. Then the shareholders, a lot of big faceless investment firms, get to ask questions. Money. Money. Money money money money money. No passion whatsoever for the product. And the shareholders are the ones who actually OWN the company, so no matter how much passion their C-suite has for the products, they have to ultimately satisfy their owners. Snap-on wants up to a list of $40 for a replacement hard handle. Obviously the dealer isn't gonna charge you that, but that's crazy money. It's injection-molded plastic with a stamping, you know how much that costs to make? Less than a dollar. Or let's take a screwdriver. $30 for Snap-on, $10-11 for Mayhew, $10 for Klein, $5 for Tekton. All made in USA, Tekton even also has the extra overmold step like Instincts do. Differences in metallurgy used sure, but not enough to want up to 3x as much for like 3 ounces of actual metal along with a very very very cheap-to-produce plastic handle.
Got plenty of cat tools.. People on about warranty on hand tools just buy a snap on to replace it if one breaks you'll still be miles infront on price..

I look for snap on to stop building cat tools soon so when a cat tool needs warrantied they’ll eventually have to give people Taiwan tools. I could be wrong
Doubtful just , salty dealers in fanboys getting their panties in a ruffle Snap-on still making good profit margins on these tools they're just mad because they're not selling for huge markups like they are
Whats this Google thing you are referring to. Snap on used to make tools for case ih their combo wrenches looked very simular but ratchets looked more like williams.
Cat tool sales just sky rocketed and snap on is happy because they still benefit but consumers are going to be crying when try to warranty because a tool truck is more readily available than a cat dealer
Cat power tools are made by Positec Tool Corporation...same company that makes the WORX and Rockwell powertools...not a great rep so far, but might be decent..haven't tried them to give an opinion...
Also, i wish snapon would have a buy it now, cash price, and then a regular retail price for people who finance, but of course that would never happen...😂😂😂
The cat tools i will say are alright but alot of them arent really a deal when alot of them are mac prices. Cat does seriously lack alot of stuff youd need. Its alright for basic stuff like ratchets and wrenches but the rest doesnt exist
If you get a torque multiplier that has the round head and long ratchet handle the snap on, Cat. Mac, Proto, and a couple others were all made by gear tronix in Massachusetts. And Cat was not any cheaper than Snap On plus you had to deal with some walking talking foreskin at Cat parts counter. ( At least the Cat dealer nearest me was useless as far as parts go)
My cat angle wrench’s are the same as my snap on. I have cat screwdrivers and some sockets. Warranty is a pain in the ass. So I on look y bug stuff that’s cheap or probably won’t have to warranty. Biggest advantage of my Mac guy is warranty. I used to work for a cat dealer years ago most all of used snap on or Mac tools and boxes. Warranty was such a pain even working there.
Truth is the tool trucks are a necessary evil And most shops wont even let you work there unless you have either snappy mac matco or cornwell tools and since they are all close in price I choose snap on the leaders in this game
These tools are made by a company for Snap-On and CAT and Matco and Cornwell. Just buy Harbor Freight or buy Snap-On used online. Remember all these tools are consumables. Impact sockets and other tools wear out over the years. Will Snap-On warranty the tools 10 years later or Harbor Freight.

Not Wright those are super combo Wrenches
Lot of them are snap on but the snap on dealer not going to warranty them if should bring down the price on the truck
Unreal it's nothing new you just need to find a good dealer that isn't greedy keep them coming CP 👍😎👍
I agree!
@@pablosgarage707 come vist Pablo you will end up living here
@@pablosgarage707 Pablo you need to come visit you bvb will end up moving up here 👍😎👍
Dealers are upset because they were told they had exclusive rights to a territory to sell the tools, and the same tools are available at local stores at half the price.
Snap on is ridiculously over priced...they are great tools but charging up to 5x more than other high quality brands is greed on another level.
Good video CP, for those who don’t know. Hope you’re doing well bud.
Hey, thanks. I'm doing much better getting the train back on the tracks!
Morning Mr CP. Seeing that old CAT emblem takes me back to the start of my career. Is that good or bad 😂👍🇨🇦🔧
On the box?
No collars on the new cat swivel impact sockets. It’s a lot easier for me to warranty the cat tools cause I work at a cat dealer lol
Even on eBay Snapon prices are way up. Way up.
Funny thing is that their website now features what seems to be different style plier set on the cat website. Am I blind or are they now selling another set?
I learned recently about this ....but since the 80s? snapon has done catapillers hand tools? (At lease some) WOW
Yes it is 100% true
I was wondering did the dealers not know about this? Seems like a lot of people and many techs have known this for decades. My snap on guy stops at the cat dealer after he stops at my shop and he’ll warranty some of the cat tools. Well he’ll warranty them for a few of the guys I know but we also spend good money on his truck too. So he takes care of us.
Exactly supposedly they are all stirred up about something they singed up for long before most of them were dealers lol
Can you add a website link for the cat hand tools. The website sucks. I have tried 3 times to find a way to buy tools on the cat website.
It's a app you have to download
@@CPthetooladdict what app
Just download the cat Hand tools and shop supplies catalogue
You can’t buy most of the socket sets. My order was not processed and when I talked to them they said they are “restricted” stock they can’t sell them anymore not sure what that really means. They are sold in overseas markets like Australia. Maybe snap on discontinued their private label contract
@@roninbushito that's interesting.. I know the tools have been removed from the search function on the parts store website maybe they are cracking down.. only other way is to call your dealer or go into the parts department with part numbers and ask for cash sale.. it may have something to do with not having an account
Yup, and Cat licenses out boots that are sold in Walmart.
Bingo!!
Thanks for sharing
My Cat combo wrench set is identical to the Williams set
This is reason I watch your channel CP because you are not afraid to tell like it is
Thank you!!
You need to make a video about new holland tools managed by snapon
I tried to check Cats website, but it’s a pain. I can’t find any of the wrenches, sockets, pliers, etc. may be cheaper but sure is a lot more complicated to buy.
There all in there dealer tool catalog
Some of the originl snap on tools had a club stamped on them
Send me Pics I don't do word of mouth
Williams CAT, and snapon all cross with each other with a lot of items
So.. is CAT sockets and wrenches Blue Point, Williams or Snap-on.
Williams
Tbh if you have the time you can smart shop for snap on tools. Some pros absolutely need and want to buy from truck but alot of others dont. Snap on is the best period so might as well buy it. Would rather over pay for tools that are usa made by the actual company than pay 4x price for taiwan rebrands from mac matco or cornwell 😅
Not all Snap-On tools are made in USA and even more aren't even made in the USA
@@rockyrococo2584 the majority of the hand tools are, sockets, ratchets, wrenches pliers. Except knipex and bahco of course. The majority of snap on tools from the truck are oosa made. Go on the Mac truck every single thing you look at and touch will say Taiwan on it. I love Mac but they fucked up. I’d rather buy gear wrench now.
Snap on also makes certain tools for CNH /case new holland
Yes, they do they have done this for several manufacturers over the years.
Great video CP!
Thanks man appreciate it
Got plenty of cat tools.. People on about warranty on hand tools just buy a snap on to replace it if one breaks you'll still be miles infront on price..
Hello again, CP and Sunny
Thank you for another Great Video 👍 I admit I knew about the rebranding. I just didn't know at what extent it got too 😕 Just to be sure I understand. Cat Tools could be rebranded Snap-on Tools. How do I make certain I am getting what I am paying for! Again thank you 😆
Thanks, you too!
I look for snap on to stop building cat tools soon so when a cat tool needs warrantied they’ll eventually have to give people Taiwan tools. I could be wrong
It wouldnt suprise me if that ends up being the case
Doubtful just , salty dealers in fanboys getting their panties in a ruffle Snap-on still making good profit margins on these tools they're just mad because they're not selling for huge markups like they are
Caterpillar is soo much bigger along with all there subsidiary companies that would be a big loss for snap on
I have some of the Williams Taiwan ratcheting Wrenches, that price is high for sure. They’re a quality wrench but not at that price point.
Whats this Google thing you are referring to. Snap on used to make tools for case ih their combo wrenches looked very simular but ratchets looked more like williams.
Does anyone know if the 239-6824 3/8 Ratchet or the 233-1637 ratchet set of either of them are snap on?
I think 239-6824 is a Williams B-52EHA the downside is that it's a 36 tooth. The set is probably also Williams.
214-7340 is an 80 tooth, can't tell if it's Snap-On though.
Cat tool sales just sky rocketed and snap on is happy because they still benefit but consumers are going to be crying when try to warranty because a tool truck is more readily available than a cat dealer
Those CAT wrenches are Williams supercombos not Wright.
CP, will S-O corporate warranty these tools?
No, have to take them back to CAT
You don’t watch the video do you?
@@sydneykillian3685 LOL
Cat power tools are made by Positec Tool Corporation...same company that makes the WORX and Rockwell powertools...not a great rep so far, but might be decent..haven't tried them to give an opinion...
Also, i wish snapon would have a buy it now, cash price, and then a regular retail price for people who finance, but of course that would never happen...😂😂😂
Great video CP 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
The cat tools i will say are alright but alot of them arent really a deal when alot of them are mac prices. Cat does seriously lack alot of stuff youd need. Its alright for basic stuff like ratchets and wrenches but the rest doesnt exist
Great research adapt ape did a similar video but he just scratched the surface. More videos like this.
Thanks, will do!
( At least the Cat dealer nearest me was useless as far as parts go)
This is 100% a true statement, same here. I totally get it, and great comment!
Haha same at mine! Try my best to submitt through SIS and have the parts delivered. Top 3 dumbest person Ive ever met.
Mustang Cat in Houston is lousy to deal with. Seems everything is a hassle when dealing with them
My cat angle wrench’s are the same as my snap on.
Regardless of how bad it is for the economy, making money online is one of the easiest and fastest ways to get rich.
What is the best way to profit from the crypto market, I wanted to trade crypto but I don't know how it works
That won't bother you if you trade with Avi Gilburt
Wow I'm just shocked you mentioned Avi Gilburt, I thought people don't know him... he’s really awesome!
I heard that his strategies are really good
Yeah I raised up to 125k USDT trading with Avi I bought a new House and a car here in the states
You let the CAT out of the bag.
Lmao thats hilarious
Truth is the tool trucks are a necessary evil And most shops wont even let you work there unless you have either snappy mac matco or cornwell tools and since they are all close in price I choose snap on the leaders in this game
My 3/4 cat impact sockets look identical to the snap on ones
I believe you sent me an email, and we discussed this before, am I right?
Yes you are sir
Some are williams some are snap or rebranded..
Larger ones tend to be williams
Buy them for 1/3 from the companies that supply them…
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
$100.00 for a large magnetic tray? Blue point. Snap on high on crack
Let's not get carried away lol
Snapon won’t wear out for home use my sockets barely have any wear. I don’t buy used never have I can buy new for half list
There is no warranty with the CAT tool. It's not worth it.
I recently scored a new 100 tooth stubby flex head ratchet from Snappy for free, when I bought my new 40" slide top cart. I'd gladly trade it for a 'Cat' one. If id paid the $135 retail price, I would theow a fit. Fucking junk. I was told" it has to break in". Lol
Dawwww poor little Snap-On dealers
CP The Tool Addict, wanna collab keep it up
I just checked caterpillar website on that pliers set and it’s totally different than that pic in the video, definitely not snap on now.
Check the part number 233-1639. You must have been looking at the wrong site.
It’s cat’s website and the pic is totally different. They must have changed them or are rebranding some other brand
That's because the pictures aren't updated. The part number is the picture I showed with the first set. Just as I said, it is a tricky thing that it's complicated to navigate. That's why I warned people about it.
Alright I see 👍
