That's cool, he helps me in my outlook too. He's a mighty and nice chap isn't he! A scholar, gentleman and bada$$. It nice being reminded that some people out there are actually like that. A little motivation is nice too, won't ever be on his level but improving a little bit of extra strength and ability here and there goes a long way to feel more comfortable in yourself.
Same bro, I was underweight, depressed, on drugs and drinking a lot when I began my fitness journey. 3 years on I still look up to this guy and I look up to this guy as an inspiration.
Cycling is really good for balance. As a food courier, I remember getting back from my first shift feeling extremely wobbly. I had ran ultramarathons before and cycled 50 mile bike rides but something about delivering in a city with lots of random stimuli thrown into the mix really tested my balance. I also do my uni work at a standing desk, this a passive way to improve balance and I swap it up by standing in various fighting stance positions which I believe will improve general comfort whilst performing moves.
Doing balance exercises in the dark does work (not sure about the blindfold thing). I lost most of my vestibular system to a head injury. It took a long time to retrain what little was left, and I found that you rely on seeing the horizon a lot more than you might think. The balance triangle is vision, proprioception and the vestibular. A complication with loosing one of those is that the vestibular is tied neurologically to eye movement. But even blind people can achieve amazing balance with enough practice, so there should be no limits for the unimpaired.
Yep, lost a chunk of mine to covid, and have noticed the same thing. Mine's probably not as bad as yours but I'm working on retuning my internal gains.
I have been wearing the Vibram Five Fingers for over a year now, and there's no going back. I even ran a marathon in them, just months after getting them (I've been training with other barefoot shoes and occasionally running barefoot, so don't do this until training for you have been completed, dear reader). As for balance, I started out closing my eyes in the shower. Eventually, I would slowly lift up a leg and try to remain balanced. I decided it was best done outside, next to a wall, so I could control the balance when needed, with just a light touch to the wall. After that, balancing on anything I could find. I intend on creating a slack line with quick release ratchet straps soon.
@@TheBioneer yeah , for complete body/mind mastery, five Fingers allow movement and thus utilisation and improvement of underused human abilities just like learning to control individual extrinsic and intrinsic ear muscles (there are several of them, Wikipedia explains their movements and functions ) Please consider making a video with this topic?

I found this channel about 21 months ago, about a two weeks after getting into Dragonball, and since then I’ve lost 30 lbs, went from being able to do 0 to 20 consecutive pull ups, I got personal trainer certified, and realized how much I want to help people improve in the same way that you (the Bioneer) have helped me. Thank you so much for all of your help over the years :)
I'm so happy for you that you got a Vivobarefoot sponsership. I love my pair and in a shortly after firsy using them to go on walks and workout in I noticed the muscle in my feet got so much stronger
I noticed when doing anything (pushups, pullups ect.) with closed eyes, I can focus much better on adequate muscle contraction. Same way when you turn down the radio in the car while the situation requires more of your attention
I do one balance exercise in my routine everyday (except weekends). I rotate through stuff like pistol squat regression (haven’t made it to full progression yet), wall assisted handstand hold, shrimp squats, weighted single-leg deadlifts, Hindu squats or traversing balance stuff like kettlebell suitcase while walking heel to toe on narrow wood boards I put on the ground in my yard. Great content as always!
This channel has shown me a whole new way of training, i am always adding or chaging out some exercices each day to be more functional. its really nice to see when youve practiced a pistol squat and finally can go all the way down without losing balance. balance is one of my main criteria and this video has certainly added alot to my knowlegebase
I periodically go to yoga classes so always had a decent foundation for balance and stability but it wasn't until I started practicing kicks on a heavy bag at my gym that I started to notice my balance wasn't as strong as I thought while actually moving. So that has been included a couple times a week along with handstands and headstands. I am trying to make the leap to more complex moves that include rotations like in say fighting or break dancing. I immediately noticed how crucial balance and how difficult proper balance is once you start adding any kind of movement to it. Great content as always and also for balance now an active user of the One Leg Row after your video on it!
I am 72 yo. When I was younger I thought of conditioning as strength training and endurance. Now I realize that balance and flexibility are just as important.
i train my balance a little every time I take a shower haha! its one of my weird shower rituals where I stand on one leg, folding the other so it rests against my thighs, close my eyes and try to keep balance for as long as possible (at first) and eventually settled on a 30-second timer for both legs. To make it harder I start using different foot positions, such as raising them, putting weight on the heel or the toes, etc. Pistol squatting is also part of the routine as shown in the video!
Interesting content as always! I'd be very curious to hear your thoughts about including swimming into weekly fitness routine - you're always advocating for lots of variety in physical.activity, so this might be a decent idea for a video sometime, discussing benefits of swimming and how it ties into different styles of training. Thanks and best regards from random Polish guy!
My Muay Thai gym trains balance by having us balance on an unstable surface. The main tools are Bosu and exercise/stability ball. For the stability ball, you can begin by sitting on it, feet off the floor, balancing on your butt. Then balance on your knees. Very advanced is balancing while standing on the ball. We also hit the heavy bag while balancing. When you get good, you find a lot more power. The basic level is standing on the Bosu. Then invert the Bosu so the flat side is up. Then kneel on the stability ball while hitting the bag. Other exercises are squats or jump squats done on the Bosu, or lunges done with the front leg balancing on an inverted Bosu. Great channel ... just subscribed.
Your videos always get me in the mood for training when I'm struggling for some discipline! You've also helped me retrofit my routines in a good way. On the track for one million!
Tbh mine is very much a work in progress. What’s worked for me is building strength specifically with pike push ups and military press. Stronger you are, easier you can save yourself from falling. Rotate the hands slightly if you feel yourself under balancing. Get lots of practice in against a wall - I use my back to the wall just because it’s easier to get in and out of. Then I try to balance the handstand but the wall is there if I need it. That way you can really get in the practice and just put in the reps. Strengthen the core and keep the glutes tight. Finally mobility is really important to get in a straight position. This is an area I’m still working on but hanging helps me a lot as does opening the shoulders against a table or door frame. It does take FOREVER though lol. What’s the challenge for you? Over or under balancing?
@The Bioneer just can't nail the balancing. I do against the wall, can hold my weight. But try free hand standing on lawn can get up but can't keep the balance. Always falling over. I have your Ebook and following the superfunctional program. I also started doing mobility training, bodyweight training. I'm from NZ and watch your channel regularly, gaining a lot of knowledge and skills. Getting very fit, doing keto and lost weight. My goals are flexibly and fitness. I used to do heavy lifting (210kg deadlifting) which is great, I was strong but slow & inflexible. I'm 46yo and got a 6yo son, need the fitness strength speed to keep up. Handstand is a goal I gave myself, my son Alexander is trying as well. I will practice your advice, especially the shoulder strength, I weak there. My other goal become a super hero 🦇🤣 Thanks mate 😁🇳🇿

I had a workplace accident that lead to a pretty serious ear injury and then chronic random vertigo. I had studied martial arts pretty much constantly(no less than 3 days a week but usually 5 or 6) for most of my life at that point and it was a huge shock to suddenly not only lose the good balance I had developed over time but to get random attacks where the entire world seemed to be spinning. I unknowingly used many of the concepts you described here to develop a different type of balance and take martial arts to an entirely different level. I still get vertigo but overtime I've noticed that tightening my core and bringing my awareness to it(roughly around the belly button) will almost always help make sure I don't lose balance even though I'm feeling vertigo.
