Something I’ve considered, as a society, we “train” children to sit for hours per day school systems. Growing up sitting in tight public school chairs, back muscles don’t develop as they’re supposed to, you grow up and it hurts to do anything but sitting (unless you start training). It’s hard as a parent. I want my child to grow up with a good social life, but I also want my boy to play and move like he wants to.
U r right, we should try to help ur children in their physical growth along with education. My baby girl is 3 years old. I am planning to take her to my aerobics class once she turns 7 or 8 years old.
Ask home school parents how their kids have a social life. As a, and I hate using this word like this, "community" they've pretty much figured it out. Humans solve problems we are faced with. Public and private school parents never have to solve the "my child's social life" problem. The home school parents did, and they did.
Plenty of social activities can be fun and encourage socializing. Even if your kid's not into sports or outdoorsy stuff, you might be able to get them into VR games. If you have to put your foot down about it, tell them they have to join a school sport, but let them choose which one. Maybe they're into photography? Nature photography would be a good way for them to pursue that and get outdoors in their free time when they're a bit older. It's not easy, but making sure it's something they'll at least give a chance will help them keep up the habit and make it part of their social life.
@@Heeroneko VR games can be fun, but as an adult who plays them, there are... issues. For starters, gamers have a word for children on voice chat in their games. "Squeakers" and they're universally hated. It's not uncommon for gamers in many games, to pick on, bully (usually not overtly, but more like ignore them and let them die in team games without helping them in hopes they leave) or just outright tell them to get off the voice chat or leave the game. Mainly in games like Operators, Call of Duty or Onward, though COD isn't a VR game. This is because they don't want to deal with small unattended children who don't understand the game and take up a team slot from an adult who could play better. The other problem that links to this is online interaction. Yes yes, we all know about creeps and pervs on the internet coming for kids. But the much more common thing your child is going to be exposed to, is the conversations of older teens and adults, that are in a place where they consider "not safe for kids". Your kid is going to hear a lot of profanity. F words, C words, sexual phrases, obscene language, and things you probably don't want them to hear. Some people will think it's funny to expose your kids to it, others will be annoyed that your kid is around and they have to self censor for them when they didn't consent to be around them. It's a lot like letting your child into a dive bar. Realistically, none of us can really believe that if our kid went into a bar, they'd be served alcohol. Because that's logically ridiculous. But they could be exposed to a lot of things they shouldn't be exposed to. Online gaming, is the same way. A lot of gamers resent parents who let their kids play online games with them and consider it a parenting faux paus akin to letting the internet parent your child for you. Source, I've been a gamer my entire 29 years of life, and seen everything I just mentioned, first hand.
@@alexanderrahl7034 Which is why you don't just buy a bunch of random games and let your kid play them without seeing whether they're appropriate for them. I highly recommend playing a game yourself first before letting your kid play, so that you get a good idea of the content and the community in a game. Looking at online reviews geared towards parents is also a good idea. I've been in the online gaming space for over 3 decades, kids are not 'universally' hated. The majority of negative attitudes in online gaming come from competitive fps and moba games and are mostly from other, older kids. Cooperative games like Warframe and most non-pvp focused MMORPGs are pretty welcoming places. Regardless, it's up to the individual parent to determine what kind of online environment is appropriate for their child. For myself, I'd probably let a 13 yr old play WoW or Warframe and not worry about it, but I'd be leery of letting them play CoD or LoL. Avoiding pvp games is usually the best bet to avoid most of these problems. I don't know what it is, but competitive games really do tend to bring out the worst in ppl. That said, there's plenty of offline co-op games and single player games out there. Side note: Explaining all this different stuff to a parent that's not familiar with the gaming space can be overwhelming for them, that's why I didn't mention it earlier. Personally, when I play a pvp game I play with a small group of friends and turn off voice chat cuz of how obnoxious ppl are. My first online fps was the original Unreal Tournament and I never really started having problems until the days of CS:Source. But anyways, I'm aware of all the problems, some are unavoidable as your kid grows up, others you can try to mitigate some. That's just life.
Being sedentary plus eating poorly = 2023. Modern life isn't necessarily good for us but luckily we have channels like yours that uplift, inspire, and educate💪
this is one of the things I was talking about with my crewmate the other day. We work for the ambulance service, both ex military and despite being middle aged we try to keep ourselves fit. Our job is really very sedentary, lots of sitting around and general inactivity, then occasionally we are called on to do something very strenous (get an obese patient down a flight of stairs for example) and a lot of people in the service are not fit enough. Combined with 12 hour + shifts and it's difficult to get some exercise in outside of work. We were arguing that our employer should give us time in our shift to exercise 3-4 times a week ideally. Not gonna happen of course ("the service is under extreme pressure").
so many of these jobs that require a lot of fitness way above average level, like police, medical emergency service, firefighter, construction etc. leave the workers with very little time to actually build and maintain the ability in their bodies to do the work. at best they will exercise on their own time, but it would be ideal if these jobs had trainers who were specifically provide functional fitness training for the work and its needs. from bottom line capitalism perspective, you will at least prevent injuries and avoid worker compensation which will cost way more than having in-house training to prevent such things and like you said, many of these people will be forced to sit at a desk for most of their work time and be expected to be capable and athletic for these small parts of the work time, regardless of the fact that if you make a guy sit all the time they're gonna be better at sitting than the work they have to actually do. with ai taking over what would have otherwise required a human sat at a computer table for hours and hours developing carpal tunnel and bent lumbar, we can have the human do more healthy things with the saved time and effort.
If you have lots of time sitting around then you have lots of time to exercise. Push ups, mountain climbers etc can be done in a tiny space. If you have a wall you can do handstands. Some bike stands can be used for dips, swinging and leg raises. Sounds a bit like excuses to me.
@@fiveleavesleft6521 I dunno, doing press ups when we're with a patient or driving an ambulance may look a bit odd. You seem to be under the impression we spend a lot of time sat around on station, that is not the case. Some shifts we have so much work we don't even get time for a meal break.

I love how much you focus on mobility and movement. So many people who have diseases like arthritis that restrict them from what most fitness influencers profess can benefit from mobility exercises.
funny thing is that a lot of fitness influencers have terrible mobility themselves. they just look good, but when it comes to feeling good, the stuff they say and how they behave overall would raise some doubts when it comes to that.
As someone with arthritis (had since I was 14), this is absolutely the truth. My goal isn't to look like a GI Joe it's to feel good and pursue my work and pleasures as long as I can
I had arthritis from my mid 20’s to my mid 30’s and was dependent on pills for it. It disappeared when I stopped drinking soft drinks, drank more water and adopted a healthier diet . That was more than 10 years ago and I have never had it since 🤷♂️
This is one of the greatest video essays abouy fitness and modern life I’ve ever seen, if not the greatest. I always felt guilty for not having any desire to chase goals that could take me higher on the financial tree, but would also mean that I would have to compromise my health and relationship with my family. Thank you for reassuring that this is not wrong, it’s just a choice.
This is a fantastic video Adam, loved the vision of "motionpunk" you gave at the end. It's refreshing to see a fitness youtuber who is actually willing to consider social problems with thought and nuance and a look toward progress instead of using conspiracy nonsense to try and sell something.
If I could run to the office in gym shorts and a tank top, take a climbing wall to get to the third floor, do pull-ups during boring conference calls, and descend at the end of the day using a slide, life would be a blast. No lie. Of course, I could just find a job where I can work from home and accomplish half of this pretty easily.
I love love love this. I’ve always thought that there should be ADULT parks, not just kids. To add to this, we should also maintain a harmonic relation to nature, promoting its place in the world, because that’s what it is, it is the world as we know.
I just learned about the UK's parkour parks. I love that. In the US we've seen a boon of skate parks / BMX parks, which is ALSO cool but not quite the same.
bosses definitely want us to be weak, and they apply thé following : - Make any work debilitating - break ppls relationships work (Shuffle teams, unoredictable schedules, part time...) - degrade cognitive work environment (openspace, scheduling, impossible deadlines) in the late 1800 and early 1900 bosses even provided hard alcohols onsite for fast workers, so the smart ones are too drunk or alcoholic to unionize etc. no need to think about conspiracies about chemtrails or whatever, any seasoned unionist would tell you that. fun fact, unions were the firsts besides clergy to create sports clubs for workers
Conspiracy theories are just excuses for not taking responsibility. Work has just followed a narrow and niave path optimising against easily measured but poor parameters. Many can chose to accept less pay and have more freedom (not all....). We all need to just chose to do what we can when we can and accept this means watching less TH-cam while eating biscuits and moaning about poor health. As Adam demonstrates, there's loads of options to just do something you enjoy.
I mean, I dont think bosses care how weak you are, they just want the work done and see it as something to be done outside of work. "Bosses" is very broad too, could be a business owner of 3 people or a manager in a chain of many at a corporation. They're not all deliberately attempting to physically harm their employees, its just a bi - product of the desire for financial growth over all else.

A year ago I took a job with the Post Office as a letter carrier, so I'm now walking 6-8 hours a day, five or six days a week. In many ways I'm more fit than I've ever been in my life, and thinner than I was in college. It has really taught me that if you want to achieve the fitness that doctors tell you is important, it's gotta be during your workday. If your wage labor requires you to sit 40 hours a week, there's literally just barely enough hours in the day after that to get the amount of movement they want you to get.
Yeah, I've done a lot of manual labor type jobs of all kinds. The most recent were Amzn warehouse. Shifts were 10hrs, and if you did picking, you walked fast for most of that time (or at least I did usually). It beats up your feet, especially when you're on the first floor which is hard concrete, but after awhile, you get more or less used to it, and its definitely physically good for you. Psychologically not so much. Helping an obscenely rich person just get richer and richer, while you're paid as little as they can get away with. And mandatory overtime during the holidays isn't so great, unless you really need the money.
In the past, standing desks were widely popular in workplaces and educational institutions. Many historical figures used them, such as Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens, Otto von Bismarck, Winston Churchill. People in the past were well aware that prolonged sitting can be harmful to health.
Hi Adam, The points you make in this video are great. As a martial arts teacher I really see the difference movement, coordination and confidence has in the lives of children. As someone who has also started a 9-5 job I realise how rushed modern work life is and how people think you shouldn't be fun anymore because you're an adult now. The coolness factor of being able to do forward rolls and backflips like a power ranger is also gone from most kids nowadays. It's really a shame. Movement and fitness needs to be implemented into everyone's life. We'd all be happier.

He believed that the original "man" was free from sin, appetite or the concept of right and wrong, and that those considered "savage" were not brutal but noble. I appreciate your work and normally have nothing to comment on with your content. There are some things you say in this video that make you come off as naive though. from you denying conspiracies (you really think the government wants you to be strong?), you better believe they are putting stuff in the water, even if it's just at worst fluoride and chlorine). I know the birth control in the water isn't really impacting hormone levels in males and that is allegedly a myth but when 90% of scientist if not more are getting funded by some corporation, you better believe the actual results are being manipulated, therfore you can't believe what they say. There's some pretty nasty parasites in the soil etc in Africa and other places, e.g. heel-burrowing worms. Britain is generally nicer by comparison. Mother Nature can be a B. Just by sitting for a couple of hours, you’re doubling the weight pressing down on your lower spine and hip girdle . And people do this for 8-10 hours of their day. Then they hop into their cars (where they sit) and go home (where they sit). Then they sit to eat. And what are they stuffing their faces with? Mostly processed foods, of course. There was a time where the majority of us had to move in our jobs. We also took care of our farms and crops better resulting in better quality of food. I believe we should go back to those ways instead of chasing conveniences.

Love it! One piece of "MovePunk" I would like to add and encourage is gardening. Rebelliously grow your own food. Turn lawns into wildlife havens. Share extra produce with your community. Not only is it incredibly rewarding and gets us outside, but it can also be a great workout to dig up beds, haul buckets of water, and plant trees.
You have been an inspiration to me for a couple of years now. I work from home and watching your videos helped me to realize that I can get up every one or two hours and get in a 5 - 15 minute workout. I'll watch your videos and pick exercises that I like. I'll take short walks after work when I can. Progress is slow, but it's there. Gradually, I have more energy and focus and my weight has become stable. I am older and not without any health issues, but quite frankly, 99% of my blood work and physical tests at the doctor look great. Please keep up your work. It is helping people. Thank you.

Really enjoyed this video! The motionpunk part reminded me of classic Disney attractions that talk about the future! I work for the US air force and am lucky enough to have an hour for fitness every day. I also live pretty far, so I usually use that hour to drive home and only sometimes work out. Thanks to your channel (it always motivates me) I've been more consistent with my workouts and have lost a percent of my body fat! I am grateful that I can get home earlier and spend time with my family, whether I workout or not. Keep up the good content!
Adam, thank you for making this video and what you do. Now that I’ve become a mom, I can’t relate to many of the fitness TH-camrs who don’t have the same goals that I have. You are the most realistic out there and I appreciate that. You are making the right choice in being there for your family and keeping up with your training. This video is just what I needed to get back into my training after being sick for a couple months straight!
I absolutely love how raw and real your videos are. Nobody talks about how hard it is for people who don't have money or parents or people who are overwhelmed with work, etc to consistently workout, eat healthy, and get good sleep. At the end of the day, there is always something you can do to improve your situation, but being screamed at and told you're a failure doesn't really help if you are depressed and overwhelmed. Thanks for bringing a much-needed perspective to the internet.
it was a wonderful video, thank you adam. so much of what you say is something i can totally relate to. i WANT yo live in a motionpunk world. i quit my office job and went freelance because i hated being sedentary, wearinh shoesat least 50 hours a week, using exclusively my fingers and forarms for typing and touching bloody screens. i am so much happier and grateful for the opportunity to be a freelance artist, making my time the way i want it and finally getting to terms with the necessity of movement for health.
This is what we need. Honest, authentic, well thought out, genuinely uplifting, and considerate. Kudos. Let’s work towards this vision together. Celebrate movement.

Just got your ebook! I'm an example of how bad our "society" can be for our body nowadays. I'm a 35yo freelance web developer. I've been sitting for 8~12h mon-fri (and sometimes weekends) and noticed how much worse my posture and mobility got in the last few years. I've been watching your videos recently and I like your life philosophy too. Your kids are lucky to have you as their father! I've been going to the gym for the last six months, looking to improve mobility and strength. I walk my dog twice a day, for about 45 mins each time. And I now take breaks more often, even if it's just for quick stretches. Feeling much better already! Thanks!!

Well... I'm 58 and grew up during a time when apparently kids played until the sunset and drank from a hose. I didn't do any of that and had friends that didn't do that either. I was a bookworm and preferred to sit in the library, didn't like sports or being outdoors. I don't know where people get that people in the 70s and 80s were always outside, we weren't--maybe a little more but I don't remember it being significant. Further, my parents used to turn the TV off because we were indoors so much and even then, I'd retreat to my bedroom and read or draw--but I really didn't like being outside. This is just my experience and observation. Maybe research shows that people were more active, maybe it's to sell fitness equipment. I'm different today. I'm still a bookworm, computer programmer, but I run 25 miles a week and do a lot of resistance. I'm far more active now than when I was a kid. I know that I'm likely in the minority here but, my kids and I eat much better than when I was a kid. In many ways.. things are better today.

I grew up in the 80's, and though I was (am) an introvert and bookish etc, I still liked being outside--especially in nature. If we lived near nature, especially when younger, would often be out in the woods (often alone, but sometimes with others) building forts, mock tracking animals, etc. And if not in the woods, biking around (again, often alone but sometimes with others). As I got older, tended to do less of that, and happiness levels definitely went down. My adult version of that is to go backpacking out in the woods sometimes on the weekends and for that, I definitely do prefer to be by myself. But that is a fall to early spring activity, as where I live, it gets quite humid and hot for much of the spring and the huge majority of the summer, and I'm not built for hot/humid climes (mostly of Scottish Highlander and northern Germanic type descent, and grew up in the northeast--one of those who wore shorts for much of winter).
Always love your videos mate. I believe society certainly can make you week, but like you said it's based on the relationship. To me it's about the mind set, does what doesn't kill you make you stronger or weaker because in this manner your mindset will manifest these results in your body.

I use a tree for pullup & chinups... A rope in the tree for resistance training... A blanket taped around a tree for boxing.... Old car tyer for kicking... Heavy rock for Squats & deadlifting...
This is one of the most important videos Ive ever seen. The best part is, you have come up with solutions, not just identifying the problem. I dunno how realistic these solutions, especially the 4 day workweek, but giving people who come acoss this video something to think about is all that matters. I absolutely agree about cities needing to integrate with nature more. This video has honestly been a breath of fresh air.
I always found it interesting in Dune that the human response to the elimination of AI humanity turned to the mind, to train it like a computer (for psychic powers too, which is of course awesome…). But Motionpunk and and the pursuit of the mind like that in combo would be an incredible society - Mentats, Bene Gesserit, and The Movers would be epic! Great video :)
I have been inspired by the physical culture of the 1850-1930s, it is also interesting to read all of the utopian ideals from back then too. I find that if I spend 20 minutes with my chest expander and 10 minutes with weights or calisthenics a day I feel so much better than when I just go to work. 30 minutes is nothing, not even enough time to watch a show on netflix but it makes a huge difference throughout the day
Sitting down most of the time, I definitely noticed my legs feeling a lot better after a gym session with a couple of sets of high rep squats, avoiding failure. I think I need to make a serious effort to slowly build up my exercise routine.
Love the message. Sharing this video on my Facebook. I feel blessed to be able to integrate active play into both my role as a father and (more often that not) my job as a pedagouge. Along with martial arts, some movement training here and there and lifting/calisthenics and stretching... I feel I'm doing pretty well in terms of moving. I could definitely improve in terms of sleeping, and while I eat some healthy stuff the majority of my calories come from unhealthy foods and cake and such :p So that's where I nould raise the bar... anyways, thanks for inspiring people to move and doing it with empathy, keep it up. :)
5 years ago I stopped driving and owning a car and ride my bike everywhere. So this tug a feeling I had but couldn’t express. Yes! I value using my body as a form of transportation.
One of the few if only voices out there that pair mental health with physical health and breaking the paradigms of what fitness means for most people. I'm not gifted or privileged, but I've always, always put an emphasis on fitness. When I was young, my mother once said, "If you don't have your health, you don't have anything." Later on, I learned that being strong and fast and able to run or climb trees gave me a sense of freedom. This dedication has made some thing difficult, because my physical fitness has taken priority over some career choices in my life, but as I get older, the more grateful I find myself that I've made those choices. I feel good (kinda, My body always feels somewhat punished) and I have greater mobility, flexibility and strength than most others my age could dream of. I CAN have FUN playing with random obstacles on my commute or walking with friends; trees, walls, rocks and cliffs. Further, the lifelong habit of keeping this machine in check has strengthened my mind, allowing me to remain strong and confident when the work day stretches on beyond the 12-hour mark. Fitness is important. It is crucial. It's relieving to see content like this that pushes actual overall health instead of the body builder fantasy that the rest of social media tells us we need. Keep this up, it gives us hope. Cheers.
Bioneer, while I'm a very conservative leaning American, I also can acknowledge the challenges of staying fit in our current societal structure. I can tell from the points you brought up we would have our disagreements politically, but I respect the work you do. You were one of my inspirations for getting back into fitness in 2021, and I've managed to stay 30lbs lighter consistently. I'm pursuing fitness certifications on the side in hopes of being able to train others to find ways to improve their overall fitness and health, no matter what their situation. Your creativity and outside the box thinking is something I hope to incorporate in this endeavor.

I'm a leftist and I love working out. I even carry around a 50-60 lbs kettlebell with me every day while attending classes. It's so disheartening seeing fellow physical culturalists adopt the right-wing "I'm better than you because I work out" mindset. You inspire me because you show folks that there's a better path toward becoming strong that doesn't put others down. Even if you aren't a lefty, I love this message because it demonstrates the necessary mindset to forge a better world where everybody can actualize their full potential without being encumbered by the chains of poverty, gender, race, class, caste, nationality, stigma, food deserts, excessive working hours, etc. I hope we can all live in such a world one day with walkable cities, calisthenics parks on every corner, easy access to healthy non-processed food, and as much free time as possible to enjoy all of it.

I used to identify with the left. Would suggest considering checking out of the con game of left vs right, because at the highest levels of power and wealth, it doesn't exist. It only really exists (well, in our perception) amongst us commoners and as a divisive device to keep us polarized, divided, and squabbling amongst each other so we don't focus on our true enemy--the psychopathic plutocrats who really run things behind the politicians and bureaucracy. An excellent resource for understanding just how illusionary this is politically and government wise, is the Ted x talk titled, Our Democracy no longer represents the people. Goes deep into the history of Tweedism in politics, high level research studies that show that core policies change very little whether the "left" or "right" is primarily in power on a surface level, etc. It is given by a Harvard professor. It is most applicable to the US, but I suspect a good portion of it applies to many other nations to varying degrees. Ultimately, the psychopathic plutocrats want us commoners to be polarized into these teams/sides, and they facilitate this through their influence on the corporate media, politics, and entertainment industry. Another good one is the Boston Globes article, Vote all you want, the secret government won't change. Primarily comes from an interview with long time white house insider. Also references to how core policies don't change much whether this or that party predominates.
While we are each responsible for our own well-being, I wouldn’t rule out a conspiracy of keeping us weak/compliant just yet. Maybe not where you live, Adam, but I’ve noticed that despite the “free speech” I have, there are several things I’ve noticed that slip in rather subtly, slowly conditioning us to pay less attention to important things and care about the non important things to an unhealthy degree. It’s been happening for decades, and the signs are there if you watch closely.
Free speech sure took a nose dive during Covid, especially in relation to social media platforms and public discourse/debate. So many people, including actual doctors, formerly highly respected epidemiologists, etc, got shut up, banned, shadow banned, ostracized, and the like real quick. If you even hinted at questioning the wisdom of taking a largely experimental and very different vaccine, you were automatically labeled things like a Trump lover (I'm not, never was) to significantly worse. And then some folks in some countries, like in Australia, had it much worse with their "free-speech". So yeah, all in all, I'd have to agree with you. People need to do a lot of research into ASPD (formerly called psychopathy and sociopathy), and then realize that a lot of the wealthiest and most powerful people in this world, are on this spectrum, and when you really truly understand what that means, entails, and implies, then you don't need to ever watch horror movies or the like, because you understand that you are living in one. One that they are inching closer and closer to their plans and desires, as most don't even pay attention. Those plans and desires include full, total control over everything. That is the wet dream of wet dreams of every clever, more self controlled, and already materially powerful psychopath.

I seriously don't think a video has ever felt more catered to me as a person. My wife and I have a 7 month old and we are barely making ends meet. Fitness is such a big part of my mental health but I feel guilty anytime I try to work out knowing there's a million other things I could or should be doing. But my absolute favorite way to workout is to just run around the forest like an absolute weirdo just climbing and jumping, throwing logs, etc. I want to pass that on to my son. That its natural. How ideal would it be if the world around was catered to, as you put it, a movmenet punk? Sure life would still be hard with making ends meet and prepping for the school year or even just general drama in your life. But then you for a grocery run and you can get a work out in just doing that. The world is in such a weird place politically and culturally (especially here in the US and ESPECIALLY here in Texas) why not build a society around movement? I don't want my kid stuck behind a desk just to grow up and end up stuck behind a bigger desk. I friggin love this channel and all the work you do. I also wish we could go on a double date with our wives and leave the kids with grandma and grandpa while we nerd out about fitness and movement and embarrass our better halves but thats neither here nor there.

Your job isnt responsible for you health. And a universal "living wage" and childcare isnt economically feasible at all. I dont live in the U.K, i live in the U.S. I have some minor understanding of "the norf" as ive heard it called in the UK. And it sounds a lot like the south here in the US. A "living wage" despite being as nonsense a term to economists as "assault rifle" is to gun enthusiasts, is entirely dependant on _where_ its being applied. In West Virginia, the 2nd poorest state in the Union, a "Living Wage" could be as low as 14 bucks an hour. Whereas in a state like California, it could be as high as 35. Not only each state, but each municipality can have their own local economies of their own. I find, that gas is cheaper in Beverly MA, than where i live. So i primarily will get gas when im going out of town, rather than in my town. This is a minute difference in "local economy" So to return to "living wage", a political buzzword if anything, what would that honestly look like? Dont forget, just a few years ago, american activists claimed a "living wage" was 15 bucks an hour. That "if we can only get a living wage, we would be able to live contentedly." Now? There are repeated bills on the Massachusetts house floor, cosigned by dozens, demanding a 20 dollar "living wage". They got their 15 and now they want more. Its not sustainable. But thats just minimum wage, and economists have known for decades that minimum wages are harmful to the lower classes because of long term damage. So what if the government gives it to us? Still nothing good. "Basic Economics 5th Edition" should be required reading for every 17 year old school kid. The government doesnt have infinite money. Here is some maths Before taxes, the yearly income of a 15 dollar minimum wage is $31,200, when working 40 hours a week. Not accounting for overtime or holidays, just straight 15*40, then multiplied by 52. According to the 2020 US census data, 77.9% of the US population is over 18. Rounded up to 78% thats 265,197,319.14 people. Multiply them by this hypothetical, now "obsolete" "living wage" of 15 dollars an hour, and you get.... *drum roll* $8,274,156,357,168. 8 *trillion* and a quarter, dollars a year. Thats what youre asking for when you say "universal living wage" in terms of the United states. 8 trillion dollars. The government *physically* cannot provide you with that. Thats why its nothing more than a political phrase for garnering votes from people ignorant to economics. If we lived in a magical world where we could confiscate all the wealth from every billionaire in the U.S and turn it into liquid cash withouf collapsing the economy or devaluing their businesses, we would get a lump sum of 2.5 trillion dollars. Which, as of 3 years ago, is enough money to run the federap government for just under 8 months. Meaning the federal government's budget alone, right now, is floating somewhere around 3-ish trillion dollars. To give this "living universap wage" youd have to almost quadruple that (to keep the 3ish trillion and give out 8 trillion more) And where does that money come from? Taxes. In the push to give everyone "free money" to "raise their standard of living" in the US. You would have to basically tax everyone into poverty. A mass redistribution of wealth on par with that of regimes led by history's greatest monsters. And in the end, the rich would _still_ be vastly better off than everyone else. While everyone else would be vastly worse off than when they started. This doesnt even include childcare, look at the DMV or the public school system and see if you trust that sort of oversight with your infant. Not everyone is in the position to focus on their health, its not their fault. But it is their responsibility
Oh no, a mass redistribution of wealth? 😏 Yeah raise taxes for sure and make sure it’s proportionate to income. And tax big corporations. And the landowners. Taxes aren’t the boogie man - they *should* be a fair way to make sure you don’t end up in a situation where 1% of the population owns some crazy proportion of the wealth - while countless others struggle to pay bills. And it has nothing to do with skill, or value provided, or hard work… not that that should even matter. And sure you can overcomplicate manners by trying to adjust for every state and inflation and whatever else. But I never said a living wage. Just give people some money, some safety net, so that they can at least afford food. And take care of things like housing in other ways.
@TheBioneer what is "fair"? "Rich" people are taxed already, more than the average person. "Fair" isnt often defined here, it's usually used to hide feelings against people who have more than you or another. If you're middle class and make 65k a year, but someone else makes 95k a year. Is "fair" taxing you 40%, and taxing the other person 55%? By no definition of the word "fair" is that fair. You're just taming more from them on the basis that they are better. Fair would be to tax everyone at the same rate, but you'd still have some form of wealth Disparity with which to claim "unfairness" And it would just motor towards the equity fallacy. Even if you dropped the amount of money to 500 dollars a month, you'd hardly be doing much help. Stripping back on government spending, reevaluating regulatory laws that harm the "little guy" more than the big guys, and focusing on expanding economic productivity are _all_ proven methods of improving the quality of life, and livelihoods of the general population. Attempting to control the economy by legislating these things is like trying to use your brain to control the individual cells of a given part of the body. The "economy" as a perceived entity, behaves like the body's autonomic nervous system. We can do things to help it along and improve, but if we don't listen to the warnings of experts on the subject, we risk doing tremendous damage. Regardless of what the snake oil salesmen or "bros" tell us. Gotta admit, I'm kind of bummed out that the first time I've ever gotten a reply from my favorite fitness youtuber. @TheBioneer I must recommend the best sources for my economic understandings, those being The Foundation for Economic Education on TH-cam, and the man himself, Thomas Sowell's book "Basic Economics 5th Edition" which I listen to at work while I clean. Economics is one of those fields that you cannot expect anyone to gain a big understanding of, that isn't an economist. Hell, I'm a janitor, the only reason I know anything is because it interests me enough to look into as a hobby. But it's that very same esoteric nature of it, that allows for groups and politicians who either don't know anything themselves, or do and have selfish intentions, to politicize it. Why can't we tax all the rich people? Well if you just did 500 dollars a month, that would round out to 1.5 trillion dollars. Economists will show you data that states the rich and corporations pay a ton in taxes. Others will claim they don't pay anything or not enough and invoke the term "corporate accounting" or "creative accounting" which absolutely happens. But raw numbers won't lie. you just have to be interested enough and motivated enough to sift through esoteric documents and financial tax records for the government. A way to help you sleep if I ever heard one. Officially, by economists and not self reporting, the amount of "corporate accounting" that happens is far less than people think is going on. Again, at least in the US. But a guy like Musk or Bezos, while they both may be worth "billions" with a capital B. Neither of them have that much in liquid wealth. It's net worth. You yourself, being a successful youtuber, father, and homeowner are likely worth several hundred thousand pounds, or is it quid? This includes the value of your vehicles, your house, your luxury goods like a TV, your income from TH-cam and workout program sales. But if someone looked at you and said "bioneer is worth 500k. We should tax him 20% of that." How exactly can anyone reasonably expect you to pony up that 100k? You might have to sell your house and downsize to something smaller in that case, just to pay a tax. Which is essentially what a "wealth tax" would be like. In the case of 500 bucks for everyone, if you acquired the 1.5 trillion through taxation, it would involve a hefty tax. In certain cases you may even be taxing someone _more_ than 500 bucks, in order to give them 500 bucks anyway. If you exclude the rich or wealthy from the benefits of the UBI, they're going to be pretty unhappy about it to be sure. The one thing that's never considered is "humans do human things". If you're on a boat that's sinking, you get a life jacket and jump. If you're in a burning building, you try to escape. If you're in a very uncomfortable situation, you try to get out of it. If you find yourself somewhere you don't want to be, you leave. And if you, under the idea that the rich "don't pay their fair share" increase taxes on the wealthy, you incentivize the group of people with the greatest ability to do so, to leave the situation. And this happens, _all the time_ You don't often hear much about it, because why would you? But it does. States like California and Massachusetts will raise taxes for the exact same reason "the rich don't pay their fair share" and members of the rich pack up, sell their stuff, and leave to another state. Instead of getting _some_ tax money from them, they get none. Taxing the ever loving bejesus out of the wealthy, the upper middle class and beyond, would only incentivize them to escape it. The paradox of the idea of "corporate accounting" is that it's been proven to happen _more_ the higher you tax them. Incentives drive everything in the economy, because they drive most things we do. You mentioned you couldn't understand why rich people and politicians don't think the same as you, and that you think they may have lost their souls. Think on this, try to rate from a scale of 1 to 10, how versed in Economics you are. 1 being none at all, 3 being you passed Economics 101, and 10 being a masters degree in Economics with a 10 year career. Then ask yourself, "could there be anything in the knowledge I don't have, that could play a role their perspective?" When someone is evil, it's usually obvious. But we, as men who seek improvement, are always enriched by asking "is there something I don't know?" Or searching for a flaw in our own understanding. Much more so than by placing the blame or flaws onto others. We don't have infinite time on earth, and most probably don't want to spend it learning Economics. But if you feel it enriches your understanding, then go for it. The world's problems are all so complicated beyind our imagining. We would love easy solutions to them, the very same way an overweight person wants easy solutions to weight loss and may fall victim to fitness influencers pushing Tran or other dangerous things, before they ever find your content. Content loaded with the esoteric knowledge of fitness, for their understanding. "Give the homeless houses" "give everyone X amount of money a month" "give everyone free X" are all the Tran and steroid equivalents of Economics. There's plenty of esoteric data, case studies, failed economies and nations no longer around, who all stand as solemn and silent testament to it. The biggest hurdle, is getting people to hear about it, before they make the same mistakes.
As someone who enjoys movement and has both experience being physically disabled (Fibromyalgia) and many loved ones with a wide range of physical disabilities I would fully support something like this! I am so glad that you have brought this idea to youtube. I know that in spaces where accessibility for the disabled is discussed, ideas for an integrative, holistic, respectful and varied human created landscape comes up a lot. There's also the idea that accessibility isn't just for disabled people but for people who are "able-bodied" as well. Working together to decide how to create this future together is a necessary task and must include everyone. Thank you for this wonderful and thoughtful video.

There are just so many different aspects of health and fitness I really want to incorporate into my life, but even as a kid moving through high school, I find that I have increasingly less and less time. Although im still young, and although I dont want to miss out on taking advantage of training different aspects of my life, I'm effectively forced to put the majority of my effort into my career, and I just barely make enough time for calisthenic skills and flexibility/mobility work.
As Adam has pointed out before (I think it was about cold showers in greater context), there are so many things we are told we need to do every day. But it’s just impossible to do everything! Sounds like you’re focusing on the right things. Just do them when you can.
I hear you! That said, I say you're on the right track in terms of health while juggling education/socializing with family and friends. Your focus on mobility, calisthenics, flexibility, and aerobic training should be the foundation for your current and future physical health. It's about balancing prioritization and consistency. That which you prioritize may change day to day, while being consistent does not mean being rigid and inflexible. You should be flexible and adapt to your circumstances as they change keeping in mind what outcome or goal you want to strive for.
I work as a food server. I love that I am active at work and constantly moving. I also do it because I’ve worked behind a desk for 8 hours a day and it killed my soul. It’s a hard job but I have a hard time leaving it because of how much I get to move doing it

As someone who’s kind of introverted one of the best things helping me with being consistent with my routine is working out at home. I love and enjoy callisthenics+cardio at home I’ll never be out of shape since my fitness stuff is not at gym
A nice overall view. I often comment on videos dealing with diet, often the diet wars. What is always ignored is that referring to ancestral diet is fine but it is relatively meaningless without underlining the importance of ancestral lifestyle as a whole - including sun exposure, exercise, social engagement, chemical exposure, sleep etc. This video is a pleasant exploration of some of those issues.
Depending on where you live your water supply is contaminated from the materials that pipes were made out of back in the day. Then we’re further contaminated from the chemicals they added to try and stop lead from being in our water. Not to mention the pesticides and other hazardous materials that have been implemented to help sustain and supply a mass production of food products.
Not really. Also, protection and power? Odd terms. Power over what and/or whom? Power is for egotists, narcissists, sociopaths, and psychopaths. The true power comes from within and in relation to a purely positive and purely loving creative Source. This is the real power, and the more one truly aligns with that consciousness and force, the more truly powerful one becomes. The more one disconnects from that, the less truly powerful one becomes, though such a person may appear to be powerful in the world and from the standards of the world. There was one human who so aligned with that creative, purely loving Source and true power, that no even physical death could limit him. The way is open for *all,* if we would but just walk it. And he had the very real power to completely smite those that unjustly attacked and physically hurt him, and yet he did not. Instead, he prayed for them.

Something I’ve considered, as a society, we “train” children to sit for hours per day school systems. Growing up sitting in tight public school chairs, back muscles don’t develop as they’re supposed to, you grow up and it hurts to do anything but sitting (unless you start training).
It’s hard as a parent. I want my child to grow up with a good social life, but I also want my boy to play and move like he wants to.
U r right, we should try to help ur children in their physical growth along with education. My baby girl is 3 years old. I am planning to take her to my aerobics class once she turns 7 or 8 years old.

Humans solve problems we are faced with. Public and private school parents never have to solve the "my child's social life" problem. The home school parents did, and they did.
Plenty of social activities can be fun and encourage socializing. Even if your kid's not into sports or outdoorsy stuff, you might be able to get them into VR games. If you have to put your foot down about it, tell them they have to join a school sport, but let them choose which one. Maybe they're into photography? Nature photography would be a good way for them to pursue that and get outdoors in their free time when they're a bit older. It's not easy, but making sure it's something they'll at least give a chance will help them keep up the habit and make it part of their social life.

For starters, gamers have a word for children on voice chat in their games. "Squeakers" and they're universally hated.
It's not uncommon for gamers in many games, to pick on, bully (usually not overtly, but more like ignore them and let them die in team games without helping them in hopes they leave) or just outright tell them to get off the voice chat or leave the game. Mainly in games like Operators, Call of Duty or Onward, though COD isn't a VR game. This is because they don't want to deal with small unattended children who don't understand the game and take up a team slot from an adult who could play better. The other problem that links to this is online interaction. Yes yes, we all know about creeps and pervs on the internet coming for kids. But the much more common thing your child is going to be exposed to, is the conversations of older teens and adults, that are in a place where they consider "not safe for kids". Your kid is going to hear a lot of profanity. F words, C words, sexual phrases, obscene language, and things you probably don't want them to hear. Some people will think it's funny to expose your kids to it, others will be annoyed that your kid is around and they have to self censor for them when they didn't consent to be around them. It's a lot like letting your child into a dive bar.
Realistically, none of us can really believe that if our kid went into a bar, they'd be served alcohol. Because that's logically ridiculous. But they could be exposed to a lot of things they shouldn't be exposed to. Online gaming, is the same way. A lot of gamers resent parents who let their kids play online games with them and consider it a parenting faux paus akin to letting the internet parent your child for you.

@@alexanderrahl7034 Which is why you don't just buy a bunch of random games and let your kid play them without seeing whether they're appropriate for them. I highly recommend playing a game yourself first before letting your kid play, so that you get a good idea of the content and the community in a game. Looking at online reviews geared towards parents is also a good idea.
I've been in the online gaming space for over 3 decades, kids are not 'universally' hated. The majority of negative attitudes in online gaming come from competitive fps and moba games and are mostly from other, older kids. Cooperative games like Warframe and most non-pvp focused MMORPGs are pretty welcoming places. Regardless, it's up to the individual parent to determine what kind of online environment is appropriate for their child. For myself, I'd probably let a 13 yr old play WoW or Warframe and not worry about it, but I'd be leery of letting them play CoD or LoL. Avoiding pvp games is usually the best bet to avoid most of these problems. I don't know what it is, but competitive games really do tend to bring out the worst in ppl. That said, there's plenty of offline co-op games and single player games out there.
Side note: Explaining all this different stuff to a parent that's not familiar with the gaming space can be overwhelming for them, that's why I didn't mention it earlier. Personally, when I play a pvp game I play with a small group of friends and turn off voice chat cuz of how obnoxious ppl are. My first online fps was the original Unreal Tournament and I never really started having problems until the days of CS:Source. But anyways, I'm aware of all the problems, some are unavoidable as your kid grows up, others you can try to mitigate some. That's just life.
Being sedentary plus eating poorly = 2023. Modern life isn't necessarily good for us but luckily we have channels like yours that uplift, inspire, and educate💪

this is one of the things I was talking about with my crewmate the other day. We work for the ambulance service, both ex military and despite being middle aged we try to keep ourselves fit. Our job is really very sedentary, lots of sitting around and general inactivity, then occasionally we are called on to do something very strenous (get an obese patient down a flight of stairs for example) and a lot of people in the service are not fit enough. Combined with 12 hour + shifts and it's difficult to get some exercise in outside of work. We were arguing that our employer should give us time in our shift to exercise 3-4 times a week ideally. Not gonna happen of course ("the service is under extreme pressure").
so many of these jobs that require a lot of fitness way above average level, like police, medical emergency service, firefighter, construction etc. leave the workers with very little time to actually build and maintain the ability in their bodies to do the work.
at best they will exercise on their own time, but it would be ideal if these jobs had trainers who were specifically provide functional fitness training for the work and its needs.

with ai taking over what would have otherwise required a human sat at a computer table for hours and hours developing carpal tunnel and bent lumbar, we can have the human do more healthy things with the saved time and effort.
If you have lots of time sitting around then you have lots of time to exercise. Push ups, mountain climbers etc can be done in a tiny space. If you have a wall you can do handstands. Some bike stands can be used for dips, swinging and leg raises. Sounds a bit like excuses to me.

I love how much you focus on mobility and movement. So many people who have diseases like arthritis that restrict them from what most fitness influencers profess can benefit from mobility exercises.
funny thing is that a lot of fitness influencers have terrible mobility themselves.

I had arthritis from my mid 20’s to my mid 30’s and was dependent on pills for it. It disappeared when I stopped drinking soft drinks, drank more water and adopted a healthier diet . That was more than 10 years ago and I have never had it since 🤷♂️
This is one of the greatest video essays abouy fitness and modern life I’ve ever seen, if not the greatest. I always felt guilty for not having any desire to chase goals that could take me higher on the financial tree, but would also mean that I would have to compromise my health and relationship with my family. This is a fantastic video Adam, loved the vision of "motionpunk" you gave at the end. It's refreshing to see a fitness youtuber who is actually willing to consider social problems with thought and nuance and a look toward progress instead of using conspiracy nonsense to try and sell something.
If I could run to the office in gym shorts and a tank top, take a climbing wall to get to the third floor, do pull-ups during boring conference calls, and descend at the end of the day using a slide, life would be a blast. No lie.

- degrade cognitive work environment (openspace, scheduling, impossible deadlines)

Conspiracy theories are just excuses for not taking responsibility. Work has just followed a narrow and niave path optimising against easily measured but poor parameters. Many can chose to accept less pay and have more freedom (not all....). We all need to just chose to do what we can when we can and accept this means watching less TH-cam while eating biscuits and moaning about poor health. As Adam demonstrates, there's loads of options to just do something you enjoy.
I mean, I dont think bosses care how weak you are, they just want the work done and see it as something to be done outside of work. "Bosses" is very broad too, could be a business owner of 3 people or a manager in a chain of many at a corporation. They're not all deliberately attempting to physically harm their employees, its just a bi - product of the desire for financial growth over all else.

A year ago I took a job with the Post Office as a letter carrier, so I'm now walking 6-8 hours a day, five or six days a week. In many ways I'm more fit than I've ever been in my life, and thinner than I was in college. It has really taught me that if you want to achieve the fitness that doctors tell you is important, it's gotta be during your workday. If your wage labor requires you to sit 40 hours a week, there's literally just barely enough hours in the day after that to get the amount of movement they want you to get.
Yeah, I've done a lot of manual labor type jobs of all kinds. The most recent were Amzn warehouse. Shifts were 10hrs, and if you did picking, you walked fast for most of that time (or at least I did usually). It beats up your feet, especially when you're on the first floor which is hard concrete, but after awhile, you get more or less used to it, and its definitely physically good for you. Psychologically not so much. Helping an obscenely rich person just get richer and richer, while you're paid as little as they can get away with. And mandatory overtime during the holidays isn't so great, unless you really need the money.

As a martial arts teacher I really see the difference movement, coordination and confidence has in the lives of children. As someone who has also started a 9-5 job I realise how rushed modern work life is and how people think you shouldn't be fun anymore because you're an adult now.
The coolness factor of being able to do forward rolls and backflips like a power ranger is also gone from most kids nowadays. It's really a shame. Movement and fitness needs to be implemented into everyone's life. We'd all be happier.

I appreciate your work and normally have nothing to comment on with your content. There are some things you say in this video that make you come off as naive though. from you denying conspiracies (you really think the government wants you to be strong?), you better believe they are putting stuff in the water, even if it's just at worst fluoride and chlorine). Just by sitting for a couple of hours, you’re doubling the weight pressing down on your lower spine and hip girdle . And people do this for 8-10 hours of their day. Then they hop into their cars (where they sit) and go home (where they sit). Then they sit to eat. And what are they stuffing their faces with? Mostly processed foods, of course.
There was a time where the majority of us had to move in our jobs. We also took care of our farms and crops better resulting in better quality of food. I believe we should go back to those ways instead of chasing conveniences.
It's almost as if the infrastructure is highly car dependent and processed foods are cheaper and take less time to consume/make

You have been an inspiration to me for a couple of years now. I work from home and watching your videos helped me to realize that I can get up every one or two hours and get in a 5 - 15 minute workout. I'll watch your videos and pick exercises that I like. I'll take short walks after work when I can. Progress is slow, but it's there. Gradually, I have more energy and focus and my weight has become stable. I am older and not without any health issues, but quite frankly, 99% of my blood work and physical tests at the doctor look great. Please keep up your work. It is helping people. Thank you.

I work for the US air force and am lucky enough to have an hour for fitness every day. I also live pretty far, so I usually use that hour to drive home and only sometimes work out. Thanks to your channel (it always motivates me) I've been more consistent with my workouts and have lost a percent of my body fat! I am grateful that I can get home earlier and spend time with my family, whether I workout or not. Keep up the good content!

I absolutely love how raw and real your videos are. Nobody talks about how hard it is for people who don't have money or parents or people who are overwhelmed with work, etc to consistently workout, eat healthy, and get good sleep. At the end of the day, there is always something you can do to improve your situation, but being screamed at and told you're a failure doesn't really help if you are depressed and overwhelmed. it was a wonderful video, thank you adam. so much of what you say is something i can totally relate to. i WANT yo live in a motionpunk world. i quit my office job and went freelance because i hated being sedentary, wearinh shoesat least 50 hours a week, using exclusively my fingers and forarms for typing and touching bloody screens. i am so much happier and grateful for the opportunity to be a freelance artist, making my time the way i want it and finally getting to terms with the necessity of movement for health.

I'm a 35yo freelance web developer. I've been sitting for 8~12h mon-fri (and sometimes weekends) and noticed how much worse my posture and mobility got in the last few years.
I've been watching your videos recently and I like your life philosophy too. Your kids are lucky to have you as their father!
I've been going to the gym for the last six months, looking to improve mobility and strength. I walk my dog twice a day, for about 45 mins each time. And I now take breaks more often, even if it's just for quick stretches.

Well... I'm 58 and grew up during a time when apparently kids played until the sunset and drank from a hose. I didn't do any of that and had friends that didn't do that either. I was a bookworm and preferred to sit in the library, didn't like sports or being outdoors. I don't know where people get that people in the 70s and 80s were always outside, we weren't--maybe a little more but I don't remember it being significant. Further, my parents used to turn the TV off because we were indoors so much and even then, I'd retreat to my bedroom and read or draw--but I really didn't like being outside. This is just my experience and observation. Maybe research shows that people were more active, maybe it's to sell fitness equipment. I'm different today. I'm still a bookworm, computer programmer, but I run 25 miles a week and do a lot of resistance. I'm far more active now than when I was a kid. I know that I'm likely in the minority here but, my kids and I eat much better than when I was a kid. In many ways.. things are better today.

I grew up in the 80's, and though I was (am) an introvert and bookish etc, I still liked being outside--especially in nature. If we lived near nature, especially when younger, would often be out in the woods (often alone, but sometimes with others) building forts, mock tracking animals, etc. And if not in the woods, biking around (again, often alone but sometimes with others).
As I got older, tended to do less of that, and happiness levels definitely went down.
My adult version of that is to go backpacking out in the woods sometimes on the weekends and for that, I definitely do prefer to be by myself. But that is a fall to early spring activity, as where I live, it gets quite humid and hot for much of the spring and the huge majority of the summer, and I'm not built for hot/humid climes (mostly of Scottish Highlander and northern Germanic type descent, and grew up in the northeast--one of those who wore shorts for much of winter).

I believe society certainly can make you week, but like you said it's based on the relationship. To me it's about the mind set, does what doesn't kill you make you stronger or weaker because in this manner your mindset will manifest these results in your body.

I have been inspired by the physical culture of the 1850-1930s, it is also interesting to read all of the utopian ideals from back then too. I find that if I spend 20 minutes with my chest expander and 10 minutes with weights or calisthenics a day I feel so much better than when I just go to work. 30 minutes is nothing, not even enough time to watch a show on netflix but it makes a huge difference throughout the day
Sitting down most of the time, I definitely noticed my legs feeling a lot better after a gym session with a couple of sets of high rep squats, avoiding failure. I think I need to make a serious effort to slowly build up my exercise routine.
Love the message. Sharing this video on my Facebook. I feel blessed to be able to integrate active play into both my role as a father and (more often that not) my job as a pedagouge. Along with martial arts, some movement training here and there and lifting/calisthenics and stretching... I feel I'm doing pretty well in terms of moving. I could definitely improve in terms of sleeping, and while I eat some healthy stuff the majority of my calories come from unhealthy foods and cake and such :p So that's where I nould raise the bar... anyways, thanks for inspiring people to move and doing it with empathy, keep it up. :)
5 years ago I stopped driving and owning a car and ride my bike everywhere. So this tug a feeling I had but couldn’t express. Yes! I value using my body as a form of transportation.
One of the few if only voices out there that pair mental health with physical health and breaking the paradigms of what fitness means for most people. I'm not gifted or privileged, but I've always, always put an emphasis on fitness. When I was young, my mother once said, "If you don't have your health, you don't have anything." Later on, I learned that being strong and fast and able to run or climb trees gave me a sense of freedom. This dedication has made some thing difficult, because my physical fitness has taken priority over some career choices in my life, but as I get older, the more grateful I find myself that I've made those choices. I feel good (kinda, My body always feels somewhat punished) and I have greater mobility, flexibility and strength than most others my age could dream of. I CAN have FUN playing with random obstacles on my commute or walking with friends; trees, walls, rocks and cliffs. Further, the lifelong habit of keeping this machine in check has strengthened my mind, allowing me to remain strong and confident when the work day stretches on beyond the 12-hour mark.
Fitness is important. It is crucial.
It's relieving to see content like this that pushes actual overall health instead of the body builder fantasy that the rest of social media tells us we need. Keep this up, it gives us hope. Cheers.
Bioneer, while I'm a very conservative leaning American, I also can acknowledge the challenges of staying fit in our current societal structure. I can tell from the points you brought up we would have our disagreements politically, but I respect the work you do. You were one of my inspirations for getting back into fitness in 2021, and I've managed to stay 30lbs lighter consistently. I'm pursuing fitness certifications on the side in hopes of being able to train others to find ways to improve their overall fitness and health, no matter what their situation. Your creativity and outside the box thinking is something I hope to incorporate in this endeavor.
As a liberal learning American, the fact that we both subscribe to this channel says we could probably get along. We need to get back to the time when we could talk across isles in this maddening world...
I'm a leftist and I love working out. I even carry around a 50-60 lbs kettlebell with me every day while attending classes. It's so disheartening seeing fellow physical culturalists adopt the right-wing "I'm better than you because I work out" mindset. You inspire me because you show folks that there's a better path toward becoming strong that doesn't put others down. Even if you aren't a lefty, I love this message because it demonstrates the necessary mindset to forge a better world where everybody can actualize their full potential without being encumbered by the chains of poverty, gender, race, class, caste, nationality, stigma, food deserts, excessive working hours, etc. I hope we can all live in such a world one day with walkable cities, calisthenics parks on every corner, easy access to healthy non-processed food, and as much free time as possible to enjoy all of it.

I used to identify with the left. Would suggest considering checking out of the con game of left vs right, because at the highest levels of power and wealth, it doesn't exist. It only really exists (well, in our perception) amongst us commoners and as a divisive device to keep us polarized, divided, and squabbling amongst each other so we don't focus on our true enemy--the psychopathic plutocrats who really run things behind the politicians and bureaucracy.
An excellent resource for understanding just how illusionary this is politically and government wise, is the Ted x talk titled, Our Democracy no longer represents the people. Goes deep into the history of Tweedism in politics, high level research studies that show that core policies change very little whether the "left" or "right" is primarily in power on a surface level, etc. It is given by a Harvard professor. It is most applicable to the US, but I suspect a good portion of it applies to many other nations to varying degrees.
Ultimately, the psychopathic plutocrats want us commoners to be polarized into these teams/sides, and they facilitate this through their influence on the corporate media, politics, and entertainment industry.
Another good one is the Boston Globes article, Vote all you want, the secret government won't change. Primarily comes from an interview with long time white house insider. Also references to how core policies don't change much whether this or that party predominates.

While we are each responsible for our own well-being, I wouldn’t rule out a conspiracy of keeping us weak/compliant just yet. Maybe not where you live, Adam, but I’ve noticed that despite the “free speech” I have, there are several things I’ve noticed that slip in rather subtly, slowly conditioning us to pay less attention to important things and care about the non important things to an unhealthy degree. It’s been happening for decades, and the signs are there if you watch closely.
Free speech sure took a nose dive during Covid, especially in relation to social media platforms and public discourse/debate. So many people, including actual doctors, formerly highly respected epidemiologists, etc, got shut up, banned, shadow banned, ostracized, and the like real quick. If you even hinted at questioning the wisdom of taking a largely experimental and very different vaccine, you were automatically labeled things like a Trump lover (I'm not, never was) to significantly worse. And then some folks in some countries, like in Australia, had it much worse with their "free-speech".
So yeah, all in all, I'd have to agree with you. People need to do a lot of research into ASPD (formerly called psychopathy and sociopathy), and then realize that a lot of the wealthiest and most powerful people in this world, are on this spectrum, and when you really truly understand what that means, entails, and implies, then you don't need to ever watch horror movies or the like, because you understand that you are living in one. One that they are inching closer and closer to their plans and desires, as most don't even pay attention. Those plans and desires include full, total control over everything. That is the wet dream of wet dreams of every clever, more self controlled, and already materially powerful psychopath.

I seriously don't think a video has ever felt more catered to me as a person. My wife and I have a 7 month old and we are barely making ends meet. Fitness is such a big part of my mental health but I feel guilty anytime I try to work out knowing there's a million other things I could or should be doing. But my absolute favorite way to workout is to just run around the forest like an absolute weirdo just climbing and jumping, throwing logs, etc. I want to pass that on to my son. That its natural. How ideal would it be if the world around was catered to, as you put it, a movmenet punk? Sure life would still be hard with making ends meet and prepping for the school year or even just general drama in your life. But then you for a grocery run and you can get a work out in just doing that. The world is in such a weird place politically and culturally (especially here in the US and ESPECIALLY here in Texas) why not build a society around movement? I don't want my kid stuck behind a desk just to grow up and end up stuck behind a bigger desk. I friggin love this channel and all the work you do. I also wish we could go on a double date with our wives and leave the kids with grandma and grandpa while we nerd out about fitness and movement and embarrass our better halves but thats neither here nor there.

I dont live in the U.K, i live in the U.S.
I have some minor understanding of "the norf" as ive heard it called in the UK. And it sounds a lot like the south here in the US.
A "living wage" despite being as nonsense a term to economists as "assault rifle" is to gun enthusiasts, is entirely dependant on _where_ its being applied. In West Virginia, the 2nd poorest state in the Union, a "Living Wage" could be as low as 14 bucks an hour. Whereas in a state like California, it could be as high as 35.
Not only each state, but each municipality can have their own local economies of their own.
I find, that gas is cheaper in Beverly MA, than where i live. So i primarily will get gas when im going out of town, rather than in my town. This is a minute difference in "local economy"
So to return to "living wage", a political buzzword if anything, what would that honestly look like? Dont forget, just a few years ago, american activists claimed a "living wage" was 15 bucks an hour. That "if we can only get a living wage, we would be able to live contentedly."
Now? There are repeated bills on the Massachusetts house floor, cosigned by dozens, demanding a 20 dollar "living wage". They got their 15 and now they want more. Its not sustainable. But thats just minimum wage, and economists have known for decades that minimum wages are harmful to the lower classes because of long term damage. So what if the government gives it to us?
Still nothing good. "Basic Economics 5th Edition" should be required reading for every 17 year old school kid. The government doesnt have infinite money.
Here is some maths
Before taxes, the yearly income of a 15 dollar minimum wage is $31,200, when working 40 hours a week. Not accounting for overtime or holidays, just straight 15*40, then multiplied by 52.
According to the 2020 US census data, 77.9% of the US population is over 18. Rounded up to 78% thats 265,197,319.14 people.
Multiply them by this hypothetical, now "obsolete" "living wage" of 15 dollars an hour, and you get....
*drum roll*
$8,274,156,357,168.
8 *trillion* and a quarter, dollars a year. Thats what youre asking for when you say "universal living wage" in terms of the United states. 8 trillion dollars. The government *physically* cannot provide you with that. Thats why its nothing more than a political phrase for garnering votes from people ignorant to economics.
If we lived in a magical world where we could confiscate all the wealth from every billionaire in the U.S and turn it into liquid cash withouf collapsing the economy or devaluing their businesses, we would get a lump sum of 2.5 trillion dollars. Which, as of 3 years ago, is enough money to run the federap government for just under 8 months. Meaning the federal government's budget alone, right now, is floating somewhere around 3-ish trillion dollars.
To give this "living universap wage" youd have to almost quadruple that (to keep the 3ish trillion and give out 8 trillion more)
And where does that money come from? Taxes.
In the push to give everyone "free money" to "raise their standard of living" in the US. You would have to basically tax everyone into poverty. A mass redistribution of wealth on par with that of regimes led by history's greatest monsters. And in the end, the rich would _still_ be vastly better off than everyone else. While everyone else would be vastly worse off than when they started.
This doesnt even include childcare, look at the DMV or the public school system and see if you trust that sort of oversight with your infant.
Not everyone is in the position to focus on their health, its not their fault. But it is their responsibility
Oh no, a mass redistribution of wealth? 😏 Yeah raise taxes for sure and make sure it’s proportionate to income. And tax big corporations. And the landowners. Taxes aren’t the boogie man - they *should* be a fair way to make sure you don’t end up in a situation where 1% of the population owns some crazy proportion of the wealth - while countless others struggle to pay bills. And it has nothing to do with skill, or value provided, or hard work… not that that should even matter.
And sure you can overcomplicate manners by trying to adjust for every state and inflation and whatever else. But I never said a living wage. Just give people some money, some safety net, so that they can at least afford food. And take care of things like housing in other ways.

"Rich" people are taxed already, more than the average person. "Fair" isnt often defined here, it's usually used to hide feelings against people who have more than you or another. If you're middle class and make 65k a year, but someone else makes 95k a year. Is "fair" taxing you 40%, and taxing the other person 55%? By no definition of the word "fair" is that fair. You're just taming more from them on the basis that they are better. Fair would be to tax everyone at the same rate, but you'd still have some form of wealth Disparity with which to claim "unfairness"
And it would just motor towards the equity fallacy.
Even if you dropped the amount of money to 500 dollars a month, you'd hardly be doing much help. Stripping back on government spending, reevaluating regulatory laws that harm the "little guy" more than the big guys, and focusing on expanding economic productivity are _all_ proven methods of improving the quality of life, and livelihoods of the general population. Attempting to control the economy by legislating these things is like trying to use your brain to control the individual cells of a given part of the body. The "economy" as a perceived entity, behaves like the body's autonomic nervous system. We can do things to help it along and improve, but if we don't listen to the warnings of experts on the subject, we risk doing tremendous damage. Regardless of what the snake oil salesmen or "bros" tell us.

You’re right, there is no objective “fair”. But there is certainly “fairer” than the current situation. Where huge corporations pay barely any tax and billionaires achieve the same through creative accounting. And no, they are not “better.” And no, taxing everyone at the same rate is absolutely not fair. In any social situation if you took the “half” from everyone, regardless of how much they had to begin with, that would not be fair.
500 dollars a month would do a LOT to help a lot of people. That’s kind of the point.

I honestly can’t understand how some of these big name billionaires and politicians don’t think like this. I honestly can’t relate at all, I think they’ve lost their humanity.

@TheBioneer I must recommend the best sources for my economic understandings, those being The Foundation for Economic Education on TH-cam, and the man himself, Thomas Sowell's book "Basic Economics 5th Edition" which I listen to at work while I clean.
Economics is one of those fields that you cannot expect anyone to gain a big understanding of, that isn't an economist. Hell, I'm a janitor, the only reason I know anything is because it interests me enough to look into as a hobby. But it's that very same esoteric nature of it, that allows for groups and politicians who either don't know anything themselves, or do and have selfish intentions, to politicize it.
Why can't we tax all the rich people? Well if you just did 500 dollars a month, that would round out to 1.5 trillion dollars. Economists will show you data that states the rich and corporations pay a ton in taxes. Others will claim they don't pay anything or not enough and invoke the term "corporate accounting" or "creative accounting" which absolutely happens. But raw numbers won't lie. you just have to be interested enough and motivated enough to sift through esoteric documents and financial tax records for the government. A way to help you sleep if I ever heard one.
Officially, by economists and not self reporting, the amount of "corporate accounting" that happens is far less than people think is going on. Again, at least in the US.
But a guy like Musk or Bezos, while they both may be worth "billions" with a capital B. Neither of them have that much in liquid wealth. It's net worth. You yourself, being a successful youtuber, father, and homeowner are likely worth several hundred thousand pounds, or is it quid? This includes the value of your vehicles, your house, your luxury goods like a TV, your income from TH-cam and workout program sales.
But if someone looked at you and said "bioneer is worth 500k. We should tax him 20% of that." How exactly can anyone reasonably expect you to pony up that 100k? You might have to sell your house and downsize to something smaller in that case, just to pay a tax. Which is essentially what a "wealth tax" would be like.
In the case of 500 bucks for everyone, if you acquired the 1.5 trillion through taxation, it would involve a hefty tax. In certain cases you may even be taxing someone _more_ than 500 bucks, in order to give them 500 bucks anyway. If you exclude the rich or wealthy from the benefits of the UBI, they're going to be pretty unhappy about it to be sure. The one thing that's never considered is "humans do human things". If you're on a boat that's sinking, you get a life jacket and jump. If you're in a burning building, you try to escape. If you're in a very uncomfortable situation, you try to get out of it. If you find yourself somewhere you don't want to be, you leave.
And if you, under the idea that the rich "don't pay their fair share" increase taxes on the wealthy, you incentivize the group of people with the greatest ability to do so, to leave the situation. And this happens, _all the time_
You don't often hear much about it, because why would you? But it does. States like California and Massachusetts will raise taxes for the exact same reason "the rich don't pay their fair share" and members of the rich pack up, sell their stuff, and leave to another state. Instead of getting _some_ tax money from them, they get none. Taxing the ever loving bejesus out of the wealthy, the upper middle class and beyond, would only incentivize them to escape it. The paradox of the idea of "corporate accounting" is that it's been proven to happen _more_ the higher you tax them. Incentives drive everything in the economy, because they drive most things we do.
You mentioned you couldn't understand why rich people and politicians don't think the same as you, and that you think they may have lost their souls.
Think on this, try to rate from a scale of 1 to 10, how versed in Economics you are. 1 being none at all, 3 being you passed Economics 101, and 10 being a masters degree in Economics with a 10 year career. Then ask yourself, "could there be anything in the knowledge I don't have, that could play a role their perspective?"
When someone is evil, it's usually obvious. But we, as men who seek improvement, are always enriched by asking "is there something I don't know?" Or searching for a flaw in our own understanding. Much more so than by placing the blame or flaws onto others. We don't have infinite time on earth, and most probably don't want to spend it learning Economics. But if you feel it enriches your understanding, then go for it. The world's problems are all so complicated beyind our imagining. We would love easy solutions to them, the very same way an overweight person wants easy solutions to weight loss and may fall victim to fitness influencers pushing Tran or other dangerous things, before they ever find your content. Content loaded with the esoteric knowledge of fitness, for their understanding. "Give the homeless houses" "give everyone X amount of money a month" "give everyone free X" are all the Tran and steroid equivalents of Economics. There's plenty of esoteric data, case studies, failed economies and nations no longer around, who all stand as solemn and silent testament to it. The biggest hurdle, is getting people to hear about it, before they make the same mistakes.

As someone who enjoys movement and has both experience being physically disabled (Fibromyalgia) and many loved ones with a wide range of physical disabilities I would fully support something like this!
I am so glad that you have brought this idea to youtube. I know that in spaces where accessibility for the disabled is discussed, ideas for an integrative, holistic, respectful and varied human created landscape comes up a lot.
There's also the idea that accessibility isn't just for disabled people but for people who are "able-bodied" as well.
Working together to decide how to create this future together is a necessary task and must include everyone. Thank you for this wonderful and thoughtful video.
I went from "obese but working at a supermarket on my feet 8-9 hours a day" for ten years to "obese but sitting behind a desk" for the last year and a half and holy wow I feel awful. Interviewed for a retail job today

There are just so many different aspects of health and fitness I really want to incorporate into my life, but even as a kid moving through high school, I find that I have increasingly less and less time. Although im still young, and although I dont want to miss out on taking advantage of training different aspects of my life, I'm effectively forced to put the majority of my effort into my career, and I just barely make enough time for calisthenic skills and flexibility/mobility work.
As Adam has pointed out before (I think it was about cold showers in greater context), there are so many things we are told we need to do every day. But it’s just impossible to do everything!
Sounds like you’re focusing on the right things. Just do them when you can.
I hear you! That said, I say you're on the right track in terms of health while juggling education/socializing with family and friends. Your focus on mobility, calisthenics, flexibility, and aerobic training should be the foundation for your current and future physical health. It's about balancing prioritization and consistency. That which you prioritize may change day to day, while being consistent does not mean being rigid and inflexible. You should be flexible and adapt to your circumstances as they change keeping in mind what outcome or goal you want to strive for.

I work as a food server. I love that I am active at work and constantly moving. I also do it because I’ve worked behind a desk for 8 hours a day and it killed my soul. It’s a hard job but I have a hard time leaving it because of how much I get to move doing it

As someone who’s kind of introverted one of the best things helping me with being consistent with my routine is working out at home. I love and enjoy callisthenics+cardio at home I’ll never be out of shape since my fitness stuff is not at gym

A nice overall view. I often comment on videos dealing with diet, often the diet wars. What is always ignored is that referring to ancestral diet is fine but it is relatively meaningless without underlining the importance of ancestral lifestyle as a whole - including sun exposure, exercise, social engagement, chemical exposure, sleep etc. This video is a pleasant exploration of some of those issues.

Depending on where you live your water supply is contaminated from the materials that pipes were made out of back in the day. Then we’re further contaminated from the chemicals they added to try and stop lead from being in our water.
Not to mention the pesticides and other hazardous materials that have been implemented to help sustain and supply a mass production of food products.

Not really. Also, protection and power? Odd terms. Power over what and/or whom? Power is for egotists, narcissists, sociopaths, and psychopaths.
The true power comes from within and in relation to a purely positive and purely loving creative Source. This is the real power, and the more one truly aligns with that consciousness and force, the more truly powerful one becomes. The more one disconnects from that, the less truly powerful one becomes, though such a person may appear to be powerful in the world and from the standards of the world.
There was one human who so aligned with that creative, purely loving Source and true power, that no even physical death could limit him. The way is open for *all,* if we would but just walk it.
And he had the very real power to completely smite those that unjustly attacked and physically hurt him, and yet he did not. Instead, he prayed for them.
