    Thanks so much for posting this. I bought this game back in 1991 but I could never get past 3/4s of the game. There was some kind of software error. I think later they posted a fix. Sadly, it did not get onto the CD. Therefore, fun to see how it ended with your series of 6 videos. Such memory lane!

    Took forever to try and remember the name of this game, but once I did, the nostalgia of my childhood came rushing back. Loved playing this game as a kid. I remember thinking how advanced and involved this game was for it's time. Crazy to see how far games have come in the last 25 years.

    I had not thought about this game in more than a decade. I remember playing this on my family's old computer as a kid and loving it. Most of the really old CD games of that era were, well, horrible. But Spaceship Warlock always stuck in my mind as one of the fun ones. I think it was that it gave you more freedom to do things than one would have expected from a game of it's ilk.
    Thanks for uploading this. It's a nice nostalgia trip. Wonder if I still have my old CD somewhere.

    SW was awesome. It came with our Mac LC II in 93 or so and I thought it was so cool that you could order different drinks at the bar in the spaceport. I was about 10 and would always ask my dad the names of different alcoholic drinks that I could type in.

    Looking back on it, I was 3 when this game came out, And it is probably the first video game (back then we called them computer games) I ever played. Of course I didn't beat it till I was 10, when the disk resurfaced from out basement. My last playthrough wason a original I Mac with OS9. Hard to belive the program still worked after that long, but I made it farther than my Dad ever did on it. The disk vanashed and resurfaced several times over the years, we could never find it when we wanted to play it. Such an underated game, way ahead of it's time with the graphics. Love it!

    @madmadhatter Right on! As far as I know, this is the first full-color CD-ROM game. There were other CD-ROM games out, but this one was a milestone for the visuals/multimedia. Most people didn't even have color Macs at the time of its release.

      +Jürgen Mayer As far as I know, this was the first color game with audio released exclusively for the CD-ROM, so everything that came afterwards took a ltitle inspiration from it. I actually got to speak with the developer last year, and it sounds like it was a struggle being the first ones to do something like this: obscuritory.com/essay/joe-sparks-interview/

    @TokyoDawn1984 How I'd love to... getting the raw music files is impossible without having a copy of Macromind Director (not even Macromedia!), but I can attempt to rip a few songs by recording them.
    People have requested the music from this quite a bit, as with Robot City. Before I start a playthrough of Eastern Mind, I might do a series of music uploads.

    And one of the FIRST EVER (if not the first) adventure games made with MacroMind Director to boot... especially because at the time, Director's main use was for business presentations and interactive kiosks, and it was a tool far less suitable for game creation than it has since become.

  • @ebrules
    @ebrules 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I still have my CD of this game, I played... basically this part as a kid (5 or so). A lot. I wasn't any good when it got to actual combat-y stuff so I'd just replay again and punch the guy out and everything. Never knew you could actually go in the bar, though. That's totally new to me. The game played very similar to how this played since we had a 486, I believe, so the trailer that came with the game always ended sound clips too early and stuff like that.

    • @ebrules
      @ebrules 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And I kinda feel like you weren't supposed to be standing there in the orbital space port for so long while it played peaceful music. It's exactly how it went for me, but I bet the cutscene with the shuttle was supposed to last longer.

    That's what I have been using. If it's running choppily, consider using different video drivers with 3.1 (this has been helpful for Warlock specficially) or manually adjusting the cycles on DOSBox. The number of cycles it automatically assigns for Windows could always stand to be higher. Hope that helps!

    @Kalaida Wow! I knew there were a lot of details and such, but not some of those. I was wondering what else you could do with the phone... It's a shame that the Warlock didn't have as many interesting interactive areas, outside the Engineering Deck.
    I agree, this isn't the sort of game you can blaze through, even if it's possible. Half of the fun is the exploration. I just had to condense it down for the sake of getting videos online to show people about it. :)

    Like @0:51. If you click on the trash chutes, you can see trash being dropped down.
    Or what about @1:35? There are some pretty cool sounds and animations of cars flying overhead.
    And 4:06, you can call the Kroll Overlord Office!

    I remember if you get something called "brainfizz" or something like that, you immediately become super drunk. If you were to keep ordering drinks until you got drunk, you'd get the same effect. Your sight becomes really blurry, and I think you can die from drinking too much, but I don't exactly remember doing that.

    Import the .MMM files via the "Import Raw Data" function as 11127hz, 8-bit unsigned mono PCM with no endianness, and there you go. The game's raw sound.
