- This is an injured baby possum that was being rehabilitated after it's mom was hit and killed by a car. We thought people might want to hear the sounds that the babies make when they are looking for their mom. In this case, it was looking for it's human caretaker.

Seeing intimate views of opossum babies is rare and this is a welcome sight and sound. I've raised several batches of orphaned ones and that little bursting hiss gives way to a tiny hissing growl that is not easy to recognize. It transforms slowly over the months into a throaty growl as they approach ~6 months of age.
I hope that sweet little toddler baby grew up to be a welcomed adult somewhere in our world.

God I just handed my baby opossum over to wildlife caretaker and I miss her I actually freaking cried today and I only had her for a week just yesterday she was riding on my head to take my son to school because I couldn't get her to unlatch her feet from my head she was riding me funny as hell!I miss my baby and I spoiled her for that week too!I just don't have enough time for her nocturnal weird hours!!

I love possums they are cute animals I'am 51 years old but they bring out the kid in me.when i was younger me cb handle was possum belly.
This little baby needs to be held and kept warm, in nature, they are in constant contact with mother and siblings until old enough to be left alone.

Reminds me of the three babies my sister and I rescued in 1985. I had them a while before we could get them to a wildlife rehabilitator. Back then you couldn't just google them.

I thank you for this video… I have a Pyrenees mix who is a opposum killer! He once attacked a mom and 2-3 babies fell off! And she had been in my dogs mouth and shook etc. luckily this time I was there to tell him drop it and amazing he did… I got him in after tricking him for a car ride, the mom was still alive and I went back to tell her it’s ok now it’s safe and I said that out loud and apologized and she looked at me and said “ waaahhhh”. I knew she was thanking me… ever since I have had a soft spot for them….LONG STORY short… my dog must have came close to mom cause one baby was wet on my 100 degree patio….” Playing dead” fainted…. Got dogs in and we put it in box, warm and gave it puppy milk….. my girls absolutely love it…….BUT tonight I heard her clicking loud for him… I ran and got box and have put him out for her and he’s so tired and weak from my littles holding him, I played your video a few times and I heard her again… I tried to wake him and now I hope she comes….tmrw is Fourth of July and they will be terrified… I’ll let you know if he’s there tnrw, but I read they as smart as pigs so…. Anyway 🙏🏻 thank you

I have a possum that visits me almost every night from inside my kitchen cabinet.under my sink. She enjoys sweet potatoes, apples, and pears. I named her Patsy.

About 2 days ago when me and my siblings were coming back from the restaurant my aunt found a baby possum at are apartment stairs cases we kinda set it outside to release it but my aunts cats kept grabbing it and messing with it and we couldn’t let him outside cuz of the cats that kept trying to get it and after we put the possum somewhere else safe ( we eventually put him at a near trash bin we mostly possum usually roam in at night and so the cats won’t see it and grab it but after a few moments later one of my aunts cat had found the possum and brought it to the house because we couldn’t leave the bby possum outside on its own cuz of the cats my parents decided to take it in for the night and just to see what can we do abt it we called the wildlife sanctuary to see if they can take bby possum to a well care animal center so it can be safe but they said they couldn’t accept any domestic animal only if it injured and we couldn’t do much anything we did feed it someesbilac puppy formula we borrowed some from a neighbor and we told them if they can offer a take care of a possum but they couldn’t because they have dogs and they’ll easily try to attack it but then we still ended up keeping it for a while we ca i wondering if there’s anybody that are interested to take in a bby possum for it safety we just can’t keep it in the house anymore because my sister is allergic to it and we want a care taker to take it so it can be safe and release it into its natural habitat

Idk if you'll see this, but a Mama opossum was just eating some cat food on my front porch and she got spooked. When she did, two of her babies fell out of her pouch. I caught one of them, but can't find the other one. I tried playing sounds of a Mom opossum but the baby never reappeared. I'm sitting with the baby I caught on my front porch right now (wrapped in a towel to keep warm) hoping and praying Mama comes back and then I will let the baby down and hopefully the baby and Mom can reunite. However, if she doesn't come back tonight (I see her almost every night, but not sure if she'll come back tonight because she ate a lot while she was here) what am I suppose to do with this baby? I run an animal rescue (cats and dogs) so it's not like I can raise this baby. There is a wildlife rehab center I can take her to tomorrow, but I know it's always best for the babies to stay with their Mom. Besides making sure they stay warm, I don't know the first thing about how to care for an opossum. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Btw, I feel terrible that I can't find the second baby. I do have 3 outdoor neighborhood cats that I feed and I'm terrified that they're going to find it and kill it. 😪
Hope you follow up with a later report. Just use your intuition on taking care of the babies. Kitten milk you buy from the store or vet is adequate substitute and beating a raw egg to give them is fine too. Later on, breaking some cat kibble into smaller bits works well and finding the occasional cricket or similar insect to feed them goes well. They do need to be warm so I made a pouch that would hold them cuddled to my chest our of an old sweatshirt worked well. I also slept with them in a pillow case next to me for warmth. It worked out fine.
So sorry that I did not see this in a timely manner. The mama won't come back around to collect her baby, especially if you are there. But if that ever happens again, Please contact a wildlife rehabber in your area. Here is a link that should help you.
