You have NO idea how helpful this was for me. Sometimes it's just difficult getting your foot in the door when it comes to learning a new DAW. This definitely was a nice introduction to Reaper, and I'm super excited about all the gear I bought now. Thanks dude!
I’ve been sitting on Shure SM7B because I simply haven’t learned all the ins and outs of this kind of stuff. I just need to bite the bullet and do it so I can work on my passion lol
I just completed my poor man's studio setup with my first audio interface (presonus audiobox go) and just got an xlr to xlr mic cable. So now i am watching this to try some vocals. Hehe
Thank you so much for taking the time to cover this subject in such slow and deliberate detail. As a beginner this video has finally made sense of all the poor edits, quick clicks, and mumbled words of the vast majority of Reaper demo and explanation videos on youtube. Bravo!
Is there someone on this planet that can explain things as simple but as efficiently at the same time as Kenny Gioia? Nope, there no other! Thank you so much Kenny for all the light you bring to us regarding this DAW, the majestic Reaper....best DAW ever in a league of its own!!!
Just wanna say thank you for all of the videos that you put out. I'm currently working on my own channel and I wouldn't be able to put out the content that I do if it wasn't for you! Thank you for all that you do!
Please note, on a PC with ASIO driver, if you have an interface with multiple inputs, you'll need to be sure to select the "first" and "last" inputs to include the input(s) you plan to use. If you do not, and it's not selected by default (it may not be), then you will not find your input when setting up your track. (Visible on video at 1:53)
Outstanding-I am pretty versed in Logic and Pro Tools but a friend asked me to help him record a 30 piece female choir. He uses Reaper. This is great. thank you.
Some audio interfaces have direct monitoring which means that latency doesn't matter - provided you don't play back as you record and you don't mind a completely dry monitor sound. And why would you?
I know all of this info, but you explain this so well and help so many people with your videos, including me in the past. Thanks so much for what you do for new people to be able to express themselves
Thanks so much! I have been searching all day for a solution to why I kept hearing feedback through my headset yet not through my recordings. Turns out it was simply me not selecting with a checkmark the latency value of which I’ve changed to 128 as per your recommendation. And that did the trick! Thanks again.
This is a great video! Thanks for simplifying this for me! I'm recording vocals for the first time today, and you just taught me how to set it up exactly how I want! Thanks again! Will be checking out more of your stuff
With the evaluation license (first 60 days) are you not allowed to save the recording as a file and use it (say on TH-cam)? Is there a method to save a track and use that file within the first 60 days? Like an MP3 file.
Im a make my first song On this reaper tomorrow as was big on cool edit sounds more clear on here than cool edit so thanks so much kenny for this great tutorial 😊 I'm a singer songwriter and i know this will do me justice mixing and mastering is hard on certain software but this is classic
how would you preceed, when the vocals are recorded? would you keep the FX on and just stick to tuning and de essing ? or would you delete these effects, and start all over when the time came for actual mixing? are these fx and settings only a guide for when recording? they sound good and i would assume they'd fit in a mix, ofcourse only if the rest of the instruments were properly recorded and mixed aswell. hope you can answer these questions, have a nice day.
Great video! I do have a question: how do you optimize volumes for the singer (say in a booth)? Is adjusting track volumes the only option if they want to hear more of their voice in the monitor compared to the track?
This is THE MOST INTUITIVE VIDEO IVE EVER SEEN> THANKYOU!! I was about to drop this awesome app because i didnt know how to work it. I sound awesome!! thanks!!
Hey Kenny. I was hoping you could make a video on how to fly hooks/chorus. Or copy and paste hooks/chorus while keeping them in time. Thanks for the vids.
Thanks for such a wonderful and informative video. I have been following the same but in my case the Recording track, when armed with recording shows level meter moving UP and Down, while the Karoke Track is being played which is not in your case. End result is the out put of the recording contains both Vocals and poor recording of Karoke track. I even tried configuring Recording as Output and then selecting No input but in this case the signal from Mic is not shown in the level meter. Pls help me configuring so that when I play Karoke track, it should not be recorded in Recording track. Only the recording track should be recored with Vocals from Input Mic. Thanks
Hello Kenny! Would you kindly list for me the videos needed for me to watch on how to operate REAPER for VOICE OVER ACTORS only? I would much appreciate it ! There are many videos on the website that kinda got me lost, and I want to get straight forward to understanding on how to use the software for V/O work only! I came here from the BOOTH JUNKIE! So thank you so much for your time and effort into explaining everything about reaper ! You are a legend!
Appreciate all you do for the Reaper community Kenny.
The best tutorials by far . Simple ,no frills , no ego , fantastic 👍
Totally agree. Easy to follow (important for me...lol) and it covers all the basic stuff. Great video.

Agreed. I'm in the same situation as you and these basic tutorials are just perfect.
I’ve been sitting on Shure SM7B because I simply haven’t learned all the ins and outs of this kind of stuff. I just need to bite the bullet and do it so I can work on my passion lol
Welcome back Kenny , glad to hear again from you😊
Hope you are safe
...a whole new world (for my self-recorded vox)! Thanks, Kenny!
I just completed my poor man's studio setup with my first audio interface (presonus audiobox go) and just got an xlr to xlr mic cable. So now i am watching this to try some vocals. Hehe

There's no way I would have dared, at my old age, to enter the amazing world of home recording without Kenny's help. I will be eternally grateful!
You are a straight up LEGEND Kenny!

True beginners guide, no assumptions. Brilliant.
I pretty much owe my entire producing career to this man. I'd be lost without his videos.
Like others have mentioned, appreciate the guidance and the well thought out method you use! Thnx!

I love how no bs and easy to follow all these vids are. I've learned so much, thank you!
Great how to video. Answered many questions.
I don't know why but 3:56 I spat out my coffee laughing the singing came out of nowhere lol
Best tutorial video i’ve watched so far. Not so fast and not so slow, you will really understand everything! Thank you!!!
I used reaper when I was just beginning, like 4 years back
Might fall in love with it again, after so much experience with other DAWs

@@vintageheels Turn record monitoring on for the track
Great video! Thank you!
Congratulations, Kenny! Could you do another tutorial showing how to record an acoustic guitar track?
Not very different. Point the vocal mic at the acoustic guitar and skip all the effects.
Your videos are so clear thank you!
Thank you Kenny, you have taught me a hell of a lot.
you are my number 1 reference whenever i have questions on reaper! you're the man!!
Vocals sound good in reaper for sure I'm excited to begin using it thanks

Dude thank u so much I’ve been on a search for a great daw n this one has been catching my eye 👁 on a lot of my search comparisons
Good tutorial, especially with that template trick at the end. I won't go for THAT much delay but for showcasing the feature you did very well. =)

I have a problem. I sing into the mic and it doesnt end up recording anything and just shows a bunch of dots on a line
Make sure that you select your audio card as the recording input !
Great video! I do have a question: how do you optimize volumes for the singer (say in a booth)? Is adjusting track volumes the only option if they want to hear more of their voice in the monitor compared to the track?
It's the most sensible one.
When I see forum questions on which DAW to use, I point people to your channel and they choose Reaper.
Thanks for this tutorial. It is direct to the point and quickly got me started in using Reaper. Thanks much and more power to you!

Brilliant, Crystal clear, well done. I assume we can save the finished song as an MP3 or other file type?
Render it out!
