    I remember ~ Years ago when most of those ships were still steam powered, their steam whistles were deep, resonant basso-Profundo in pitch, and if you were near the water when they sounded them, you could feel it resonating in your chest. We were kids, and to us, it looked like they weren’t moving at all, but when we’d run along the waterfront trying to race them, it didn’t take long for them to leave us panting behind. The modern Diesel powered ships have air horns, and although they’re loud as all Hell, they just don’t have that magical presence of the old steam whistles. And it seemed like each one had its own unique sound. Today, it just sounds like you’re hearing a REALLY Big truck blowing its horn.

      I did get an update: after researching, it’s the same horn the CBJ have had over their 24 year tenure: a Kahlenburg S-203C
      Similar to the American Fortitude, however very inconsistent in terms of sound from game to game due to age (similar to the fortitude)
      Your welcome

    • @bluerazor7049
      @bluerazor7049 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Originally, the Fortitude, ex-Ernest T. Weir and Courtney Burton came equipped with a Leslie 300-425DVE steam horn combo that was later taken out of the stack and moved to the self-unloader following the conversion around 1982. In 1994 however, the steam horns on the Burton and the Reserve, which also had the same steam horn combination were replaced with S203C, probably because they got worn out.

      Yeah. Imagine being out on the water in a rowboat in Duluth, on a foggy day. You hear THAT, look up to see Jackson sailing at you at full speed out of the fog. I’d nope out of there faster than an Olympic rowing team.
