    We were just up there. Saw a couple ships come in. Both were daytime shots, though (no nighttime arrivals while we were there). Did not realize there was a light on the bridge that also did the salute at night. One of them was the Anderson, which did a master salute!

    Love the low bellow of Canadian Olympic, but they are ALL wonderful! Thanks for posting. God bless America and all the ships at sea!

    Probably the Anderson, her history having alot to do with that. I lived all but the last three years in Toledo Ohio. Not much I miss about it, but I do miss those boats!

    10 year old footage looks like it was filmed with a potato, but other than that cool video. I love a good sail by salute.

      That's more or less accurate about that clip, camera was very cheap for its time.
      Thanks for watching.

      Ah, the master salute! Immediately following a captain's salute, too!

    I was always wondering where the train horn was coming from now I know it was the bridges horn lol

    • @NorthlandTrains
      @NorthlandTrains  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The horn has changed or been adjusted over the years, it sounded different pre-2011 than it's current sound, heat/cold affect it as well.
      Supposedly it is a Westinghouse 6-chime horn, similar to on trains but I'm made to believe this horn is specially made for the bridge. It certainly adds to the excitement of the horn greetings. It's fun to watch people new to Duluth look in surprise at the bridge when it responds to a vessel.

    Why is the Alfonso in the thumbnail when you didn’t record that ship saluting?

    Hey Northland, which of these ships was your favorite?

    • @NorthlandTrains
      @NorthlandTrains  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I like classic freighters like the Anderson, I must say I take a liking to the appearance of certain saltwater ships, like Cornelia or HHL Congo.

      @@NorthlandTrains I personally like the massive ones, namely the Mesabi Miner, James R Barker, and the Paul R Tregurtha.

    Do you know what model of horn the lift bridge has?

    • @NorthlandTrains
      @NorthlandTrains  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      some type of Westinghouse 6-Chime, or dual 3-chime (3 facing the lake, 3 facing the harbor)

    Anyone got a recording of the fitz?

    • @xHadesStamps
      @xHadesStamps ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly, very unlikely. It wasn't anywhere near as easy or cheap to record video back in 1975 and earlier. An audiocassette may exist. However, it's still not very likely.
