    I think I like the Edward L. Ryerson's horn best. Although I also sort of like the American Fortitude's horn. That little squeak at the beginning is my favorite.

      american fortitued reminds me of when I used to go here 10 years ago. Also why was the bridges horn that quiet for a few months?

      From what I've heard, the Ryerson has the same type of horn that was on the Edmund Fitzgerald. So when you hear the Ryerson, , you're hearing a close approximation of what the Fitz sounded like.

    Elliot Legos, Ferries and MO! I agree 100%! If you look up the now-scrapped cruise ship called SAGA RUBY, her two-toned horn or “whistle” is pretty much the same, except air driven I think. The Edward L Ryersons were steam driven. Kind regards from Auckland, New Zealand!

    Herbert C Jackson is being converted to diesel. Will it be renamed like the Oberstar? As of now, the Badger and Alpena are the only steamers left.

    • @LNERMallard
      @LNERMallard 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, the Arthur M. Anderson, Cason J. Callaway, Phillip R. Clarke and the Wilfred Sykes are all still steam powered, and running.

    • @redbrobster
      @redbrobster 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Spaghettios I had always thought that they were diesel powered. Also, is that the same horn that they would have had in the past?

    • @LNERMallard
      @LNERMallard 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The three AAA steamers used to have Leslie Tyfon 300's, but now carry Kahlenberg piston horns. The Wilfred Sykes still has a functional 300/425 pair, but seems to use a modern piston horn more often now.

    • @LNERMallard
      @LNERMallard 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, Michipicoten still retains her original Tyfon 300's, but sounds then on air, giving them a deeper pitch, which I don't mind. :)

      The Jackson was repowered to diesel in the winter so sadly her Leslie 300 steam horns were replaced with the boring KPC-130 Electric piston horn that nesrly every ship has these days!
