To claim the Eurovision is not and hasn’t been affected by international politics is to have not being paying attention. In international sports competitions political and international events have shaped who can compete and how solidarity is displayed. Some believe politicians should control institutions that have a choice in how to react to international events but that we all understand is a dangerous step towards dictatorship.

Russia was not kicked out of Eurovision for invading Ukraine. Eurovision is organised by EBU, and they excluded Russia for not following standards of union, but it was more about how Russian television behaves not how the Russian government.
