My Grandfather was at D-Day landings, he fought for Humanity, in his later years he fought for Palestine and the good Palestinian people. We must stop the genocide. Free Palestine!
My Father and 4 of his brothers were all WW2 veterans. My Dad took part in the invasion of Normandy! He was 23 yrs old at the time. I can't even imagine what was going through his mind that day! Thank God he and his 4 brothers all survived the war and made it home. Tomorrow will be the 80th anniversary of the invasion. Thinking of that I get very emotional! My Father passed away July 17th 2011 at the age of 92. Since then his 4 brothers have all died! I just want to say Love you Dad and miss you very much. Thank you for your service and sacrifice!
My great uncle Jim was a British tank commander during D Day. He was sitting on top of the lead tank with the top hatch open when a German anti aircraft gun, with its barrel lowered, sent a shell directly into the front of his vehicle. He was blown 30 foot in the air suffering extremely bad burns and landed in a ditch. His life was saved when a platoon of African / American soldiers found him later that day. He was so badly burnt and blackened from his injuries that the African American soldiers assumed he was one of their own and he later regained consciousness in an American field hospital! Amazingly he survived and subsequently lived well into his 80’s. Heroes
I get a tear in my eyes every time I see these great men going over for the D DAY memorial week. My own father was there a week after D DAY. Thank you everyone who fought 80 years ago for the freedom of the world. RIP all those who died for the freedom we have today 🙏🙏

It was so moving to see these old soldiers, each with their own personal memories of comrades they lost, and the exspirinces of being in a fierce battle where death could come to you at any moment on that momentous day in history, June 6 1944.
Ignored by the media circus, eighty years ago today Rome was liberated and the British Indian Army was getting stuck in out in Burma. In far worse conditions than Normandy. No media hype for them I’m sad to say. Let’s remember all theatres and a little recognition for them wouldn’t go amiss. Fergal Keane, hats off for the brilliant work you did for the 14 th Army out East.
Whats also ignored was that the US was able to stage an equally impressive amphibious landing around the same time on the other side of the planet with the invasion of Saipan.
Totally agree and it is awareness like yours that gives those who sacrificed the necessary attention, gratitude and respect they deserve. D-day will always have so much significance in WW2 due to landing in a fully occupied France, that this is always going to be the case hence the amount to attention it receives.
So many gave there lives to keep UK a free & democratic country. It must be so sad for those still alive to see what the UK has become & what those brave men did for us. Most of UK now must now be ashamed of what we have now become.
There will never be another generation like them , brave men and women facing the worst things you can imagine and they did it ! Gave the ultimate sacrifice. And for what. Today's generation? The youth of today don't deserve the sacrifice those brave men and women made .
I once saw a TH-cam video of a WW2 vet that knew an American civil war vet when he was a child. To speak to somebody that’s alive today that spoke to a civil war veteran is mind blowing to me.

And I wonder when the old generation is going to stop quoting Hollywood movie lines. The D-Day was just a conversion to ease pressure on the advancing Soviet troops in the East. They were just cannon fodder because of a deal between Stalin and Churchill. As a German, they didn’t fight for my freedom but rather the fact that we are now communicating in English with each other.
I would like to buy each and everyone of these heroes a beer and shake their hand. Different breed of magnificent people then. Truly humbled watching this.
We owe all the freedoms we have today to these brave men. I am 38 years old now, and even now I often imagine what it must have been like to arrive on those beaches on D day. To see your friends and comrades fall, to know you must push on, to know that the future for your grandchildren, and their grandchildren, depended on you that day. How all the Jews trapped in concentration camps depended on you for their futures as well. How I would love to spend hours with them and hear their stories. We must also make sure that those who fought and those who lost their lives on D day so we can live in freedom and peace did not do so in vain. All talk of a 'world war three' needs to stop, now. We must be better, we must think better and we must do better, for us and for them.

It didn't take long for the Atlantic Wall to fall. The Third Reich was ruthless and efficient. But they weren't nearly fast enough. For you had already passed the torch. And because of you, we established a foothold and, with conjunction with our Eastern Front allies, shattered our enemy's resolve. Our victory - your victory - was so close. I wish so many of your fellow soldiers could have lived to see it. But they belong to the sands of France's beaches. Their bodies, their armor - all washed away to the sands of time. Everything… except their bravery and courage. That, they gave to the world. And with it, we were able to rebuild.
