      Best of luck, yeah this is one of the best looking/performing WRX generation (cheap to modify and lots of fun for the money, and best part is there are a ton of aftermarket parts for this car already and issues/problems have already been resolved) 👍

  • @aredd92
    @aredd92 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    You pretty much nailed it. Have had my 19 wrx base for over 3yrs now. The 1 - 2 shift is absolutely abysmal, but I have learned to try and live with it. It's by far the most disappointing thing about this car. Not only is the rev-hang bad, but it is my opinion that 2nd gear is slightly geared too high/long in respect to first. Yes, it makes for great "magazine 0-60 times", but as for daily driving, it sucks a**, and makes your synchros (which aren't that great) work way too hard, especially when it's cold. But what can you expect for an awd 250+ hp car that's under $30k. There had to be some cost-cutting somewhere. A Cobb AP with a decent tune can help, but the rev hang is unfortunately an inherent part of the 15+ powertrain, and is thus pretty involving to fully remove. And with any tune comes the added risk of possible warranty denials.

    I have a 2023 WRX base model that I got just over 3 weeks ago now. I love it. Subaru fixed the rev hang for the newer WRX's because there is none in my car. I had a 2020 Si Coupe before the WRX and that car had terrible rev hang and it drove me absolutely bonkers. I hated driving the car because of it. I am relieved Subaru fixed this issue for the newer WRX's and that I no longer have to deal with it. It legit made me wanna drive the Si into a ditch it pissed me off so bad. I will never purchase another Si again because of that issue.

    What have you had to do as far as maintenance? I’m looking at a 2018 with 28k miles at a pretty good deal (rebuilt title) but I’m not sure what to look out for.

    • @4enthusiasts
      @4enthusiasts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not much really. Just do frequent oil changes and you’ll be good. Regular maintenance is key with these cars. Take care of them and they’ll treat you right. If you can check if there is oil in the intercooler. The only main aftermarket part I would highly recommend to have is an air oil separator (still keeps factory emission parts and is a must for any turbo engine) best of luck

    • @4enthusiasts
      @4enthusiasts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The WRX is great from the factory, but a simple stage 1 OTS tune can clean up the stock tune’s imperfections without sacrificing reliability. To make the car more fun I would recommend getting a muffler delete for a full catback exhaust. Depending on the trim you get, the speakers are not as good as other cars. And if you get the 2019+ it comes with apple CarPlay 👍

    • @4enthusiasts
      @4enthusiasts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you care about Apple CarPlay I would get the 2019+ as it comes with it. But an aftermarket headset will work as well. The instrument cluster/gauges and the front bumper for the 2018+ looks much better and more modern compared to the 2015-2017. But if you don’t care about those things than the 2016 is great. Be sure to check the service history if the previous owner did regular oil changes. Not sure if you want to modify your car but the very first thing I would highly recommend is to get an Air-Oil-Separator. They can be a pain to install but it is essentially for any performance engine. Also when you test drive it go over bumps to see if the shocks squeak as my old WRX had this issue around 30,000 miles. Best of luck 👍

    I guess it really depends which base model you have because my base model does not have your rear-view mirror but I do have heated seats there's a few things that you are saying differently than my base model 2018

    • @4enthusiasts
      @4enthusiasts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s because it depends on the market the car was sold in. I’m in the USA and the base model comes with the cloth seats no heated seats. Looks like your from Canada and heated seats come standard. Homelink review mirror is an option which my car has, can be down with any Subaru and most dealerships tick this option.

      Mine didn’t have automatic headlights, I had to manually turn it off or it will drain the battery. Not sure if the 2021 has this issue or not (or if there is a different system Subaru has for the push to start cars) My 2021 STI does automatically turn off the headlights as it has the auto feature 👍

    Would you recommend this car?

    • @4enthusiasts
      @4enthusiasts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I would definitely recommend a WRX to any car person (specifically the 2019+ as they have Apple CarPlay which makes it feel a bit more premium) If your into modifying cars parts are very cheap compared to other platforms and there are a ton of parts available; instead of waiting for the new gen WRX. It’s fun stock but with any car it’s not perfect from the factory

    I've had my car for two years and if there's anything I can suggest to people when you get your base model and driving it for a couple of years you're going to want the STI or Sports Limited I know I'm trading mine in for an STI 2021 mostly because it has everything I want to upgrade my base too

    • @4enthusiasts
      @4enthusiasts  ปีที่แล้ว

  • @yourmanzach2307

    at what temp do you drive the car? say its 40 degrees and you are warming it up. i just bought a new wrx and I want to really baby it.

    • @4enthusiasts
      @4enthusiasts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it’s 40 degrees Fahrenheit for ambient temp, during the cold start I would let the car do its cold start cycle until the rpm drops below 1000 rpm at idle (~750 rpm). The best part of the WRX is that it comes with an oil temp gauge which is very useful. Drive to warm up the engine/transmission (transmission may be hard to get into gear when cold). The coolant temp should be at operating temp before the oil temp. Once Oil temp at 160-170 degrees Fahrenheit, then you can process to drive the car normally (have fun). If oil temp reaches above 210 drive to cool it down before doing any pulls. And after you drive hard, drive normally to you end destination to cool down the car. Don’t lug the car (floor throttle at low rpm). It is very helpful to know the rpm range at which peak torque/power is made with the WRX; this will tell you where to shift the car.
      Have fun with your WRX, it is one of the best daily drivers out there for the street.
      If your WRX is brand new, please follow Subaru’s break-in procedure. Do a lot of engine braking (coasting in gear to let rpm drop) as this will help break in the engine. And vary your rpm and for my personal experience introduce some boost at the later period of the break in process so the engine gets used to boost 👍 hope this all helps

    • @4enthusiasts

      For me it didn’t matter as I knew I wasn’t going to keep the car for long. There isn’t a big difference besides some amenities like led headlights/auto headlights and better audio but overall they are practically the same. Although I encourage you to at least get a 2019+ as they have Apple CarPlay. If the price is good go for it, my base WRX cost me $26,000 and I was able to sell it for $24,000 at the time 👍

      I have a 2021 Base WRX and I chose it over the higher models because I wanted cloth seats and no sunroof. The downside to having the Base is that the stock wheels are ugly and the fake plastic "foglight" blanks look cheap. I did buy some nice Enkei 18" wheels for it so that is fixed now. I don't have a headlight preference, halogen vs. LED, so that didn't matter to me.
