What a great piece and what a mature owner for someone in their 20s! I’m one of the quiet 987.2 owners of 3 years now. It’s odd because most things in life feel “normal” after a week or two, but I feel special every time I get in this car. I agree that the analog (raw) experience is superb. The car size and remarkable cornering are just right. I keep up on it meticulously and while I hoon it on backroads I feel I’m only scratching its performance envelope. I suspect at some point I will get a 997.2 911 for a new experience but I’ve been holding holding off because the 987.2 experience is so rewarding. It’s the only car I’ve owned that if I take a work trip and don’t drive it for a few days I feel a longing to take it out again.
I have a 987.1 that was the Hartech development car for the oversized engine so it has the 3.9 engine with 352 Hp. It’s not the greatest spec car but I don’t care about all of that , it’s got air con that blows ice cold and it’s all about the drive for me . Love it .
Hi i have a 987.2 with same all leather interior spec and sports steering wheel. fantastic spec Love it. Have replaced the Entertainment system with a JVC with reversing camera finishes it off
I’d happily let you see my Cayman 987.1. It’s a stunning car and be great to see what you think. Not only that but it’s a Tiptronic so should create some divided opinions:)
Picked up a 2010 guards red base, well speced 6spd in March and I'm loving it! Owned a few BMW 2002's many years ago, 2 Corvettes in the last 5 years,(C6&C7, both manuals), and the Cayman is the car I'll keep as it's a throw back to a real drivers car with fairly modern comforts and it's plenty fast enough to land me in jail.
1:44 - Combination of a hydraulic steering, 6 cyl engine, shortest wheelbase in the lineup, most flared rear fenders and manual gearbox is probably everything that you need from any Porsche. Btw, I have nearly identical, black 987.2S on CIIS wheel. Cheers!
I own a gen 1 cayman s manual box with catless headers and a short shifter , I bought it 3 years ago as it was a car that Hartech sold which had all the 6 cylinders full rebuilt and they used nikasil liners which only the turbo and GT cars use so for me it’s going to be a keeper for life I love the car and next mods are the whole interior to be wrapped in alcantara and leather mainly alcantara
987.2 is always a great choice......If it is a 987.1, the base is the better choice. Just saw some videos of someone who bought a 987.1 "S" for just a short time and now oil consumption and the threat of bore scoring is ruining the ownership experience. Repairs are 12K+ which bring you right into the 987.2 territory with no fears or concerns about all the engine issues.....
What...? No memory seats...? Just kidding :) Great car for sure. The extended leather makes the interior. Have it on my 987.1S. Has been featured on this channel a long time ago. Hold on to this one is my advice
Hi Guys, Great video! It seems as though I am following in Tom's footsteps as I also have bought a Cayman S Sport at 22, only bought it recently therefore haven't drove it to its full potential but its good people are finally talking about the S Sport! Cheers, Adam
Thanks for the video! Really enjoy the content on here and love seeing another great 987.2 Cayman S. Totally agree with Tom’s comments where this is the sweet spot of value, fun and reliability. My car is actually very similar to Tom’s one, looks like they were separated from factory! 987.2 Cayman S Black, xenons, manual and some other goodies as well. Been an amazing car for me and has taken me to Scotland and across Europe multiple times. Would love to have it on the channel at some point, if you live in the South East I’m at the London Porsche club meets quite often.
Your car sounds like another awesome 987, congrats! Yes I'm based South East too, so we can't be that far apart. If you'd like to feature your car on this channel (and I'd love to feature it), please drop me an email at maxrevscars@gmail.com
Crested headrests: THE most important option :) My 987.1 has them (ex-demonstrator - thus temptingly specced) and they make me smile every time I get inside. I know that’s silly, but I enjoy it.
Enjoyed the 'chat'. Wonder if you saw my 2011 Gen 2 2.9 on Autotrader back in November last year when you were surfing? PDK, Sport/Sport+, Sports exhaust, GT steering wheel and paddle shift, heated seats and as I now know, extended leather! and 29000 miles. I was the only non trade caller in 6 weeks and the private seller wouldn't move on the £22,500 price. Seems I got a bargain looking at current prices. interesting comment about the tyres. Mine looked fine on initial inspection but when I went to have the tracking set up, they had indeed perished within the grooves. £800 for 4 fully rated Bridgestones didn't break the bank though. Gearbox? My previous Gen 1 2.7 was manual and I much prefer it to the paddles but using the PDK in auto is nuts! Happy driving.
I’ve been owning a 987.1 for 3 years, just love it , hope I’ll never have to sell it... it’s my first Porsche experience , now I can’t see anything but Porsches, want to have both this cayman 987.1 and a new 911 turbo s in particular.
This is a stunning stealthy looking Gen 2 S. Yep mine doesn't have the Xenons yet considering the rarity of the R then the lights were the least of my priorities of all the hallowed R must haves. This S has it all huh, what a find. What with the Lepsons refurb (best wheel place in the country) he's got it going on!
Wow! Enjoyed the info and learned a lot. Just bought my 987.1 after looking a long time. Wish I could have gotten a .2 so I could sleep better, but you’re right, perhaps I read too much of the negative issues. Mine only had 44k and once again you’re right, it needed a bit more maintenance attention that you mentioned. All in all I love it, but it doesn’t keep me from looking still.
987.2 owners don't shout out how great this car is. they just enjoy and don't share the fun they have. Last year I put this car onto my car collection and gave me a big smile! Latest 2012 s model with only 42000km. I just change the rim from 19 to 18 inches with more tires and it is so much fun to drive! If you owned one and had too much fun and consider buying 981 or 718 model, please drive newer model first before you selling 987.2 s model. They are totally different car! I am pretty sure with it. Trust me!
nice to see that others have that car too, I have the 987.2 pdk pasm + H&R.....but my hart goes with the 991.2 S.....my third one when prices come back from the moon.
987.2 base Cayman or Boxster is the way to go. No 987.1 IMS or bore scoring issues to worry about, and a completely new direct fuel injection mid-engine design as well.
hang on a mo...is this by chance the one at Paragon a month or so ago which is back on the market as the owner (as discussed on the owners forum) now wants a GT4. Is that one and the same chap?
Great video, super car and nice chat. It would be great to get a 987.1 S Sport featured on the channel- it's a rare car and commands a significant premium. Ha! Yes, manual R is hard to beat…. Incidentally my old S Sport sold recently on CollectingCars. You can still view it in their ‘sold’ section. 8 owners now I believe! (From memory I was no 4/5)

Actually, the 987 has a longer wheelbase than the 997.
