    Just picked up my first 2003 4.7 V8 4Runner. I've always has 1999-2006 Silverado 5.3s and I love those trucks but I was ready for something with a smaller feel to it with the same 6000+ tow rating. Think I'm gonna buy a second one of these as a backup since they're so underrated for the price when you find them priced correctly.

    Great vids man!! I too own a V8 4Runner(2003 Gold) and have done some mpg test. I think the idea for theses V8 4Runner to get good mpg (19-20 mpg+) is to keep it at 68mph and flat road. Highways 🛣 like I-95.

      Nice! Yeah sometimes a little rpm/ speed drop will make a difference. Towards the end of this trip it flattened out, I could see getting 19-20 mpg if its flatter

    Also worth mentioning that you got that 17.5-18mpg on what was I'm assuming (from the snow lol) a pretty cold day. With any of my cars over the years I usually see a 2-3mpg average drop in the winter months. More additives in fuel in cold climates kills the quality/octane, not to mention the effect the cold, dense air has on the car itself (denser air needs more fuel to balance out the AFR in the combustion chamber, and it's just physically harder for the vehicle to push through that air going down the road). I'm sure now that it's summer you're probably getting noticeably better economy.

    It is a shame that the 4.6L V8 never made it into the 4Runner. Because of that I went with a Lexus GX and never looked back. The 4.0L V6 is a great motor don't get me wrong, but it is underpowered in the 4Runner especially when it is loaded with people and gear. That V8 makes all the difference in the world and actually gets slightly better mpg.

    • @mj7791
      @mj7791 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You will want to add 3.3% to your overall mileage with that size tire before you divide by your gallons consumed. Your tire revolutions are 3.3% less than the stock 265/65/17. Your odometer is reading less mileage. So the good news is you are getting better than 14.5.

      Biggest things I'd check has the timing belt been done? (Usually done every 90k)
      Any corrosion or frame rust?
