I envisioned it like this- if it was a normal house instead of a parish house, Ted would be Duggal's single father(an unsuccessful writer) and Father Jack would be Ted's widowed father. Doyle will be Duggal's unmarried aunt, Ted's younger sister. Bishop Brennan would be their landlord often demanding their unpaid rent.

Or Father Jack would be the chaotic uncle with whom the two are living because Father Ted is such an unsuccessful writer, and Len, I mean the bishop is Ted's father. This would make a trend of sons disappointing their fathers.

I feel like one of the best gags was lost of the studio audience (and on other people that I've seen watching and reacting to this show): We hear about the Holy Stone of Clonrichert all the way back in Series 1, and I believe also see its picture on the wall in some other episode(s). All the while we expect some huge boulder-sized stone, and finally when the camera closes in on it (taking its sweet time), it's a tiny little stone.
Someone asked where the pictures were, and later deleted the comment before I could reply. Here's one, in this episode itself, at 4:17.

Frank had a very thick wig on he was okay, you could tell it wasn't his own hair. They talked about it in the DVD commentary I think.
One of the best comedy series ever. Loved it.

The end shot was perfect, the hippy van, hearse and ambulance all leaving together, signifying just how dangerous any visit to Ted's house was for other clergy.

Dara O Briain I think had the best logic as to why that would never happen, it boils down to nobody would get the jokes and so it's not worth the effort. Most of the Muslim majority countries where folks might understand the humor aren't really at a point where jokes about their religion would be well received either. I can imagine it happening someday but war and poverty are what religion feeds on and so for the foreseeable future the middle east isn't gonna be safe place for religious humor. Perhaps in Malaysia or Indonesia in a few years, but I think we're a long way off from anything like this in the middle east.
As for the West, Dara is right, we just don't know enough about Islam in the west to do well crafted and insightful humor and the audience probably won't be able to relate or understand the jokes.
You are only allowed to be irreverent about organisations that no longer have any power. Father Ted was produced and transmitted in Britain, probably it would not have made it in Ireland (a Western country, I believe). Comedy about religion, especially Catholic religion, only really started in the 1960s in Britain, when it was in massive decline. Wait until Islam is in decline, and you will see plenty of comedy about it. There is also a difference between organisations and individuals. There are plenty of jokes about Islamic people as there are about Jewish or Communist people from within their own communities. Go to an Islamic country like Iran and you will hear many jokes (and insults) told against the local Imam or against the religion itself, but they will be in private. Remember that there are many people who believe, and that this kind of nonsense hurts them. Finally, remember that you in the West are not allowed to be irreverent about climate change, the environment, government coronavirus measures. Your equanimity is another's enmity.

When you punch up, it's satire. When you punch down, it's bullying.
The muslim community and countries that primarily worship Islam face constant oppression from western countries even now. To make fun of the Islamic is to stamp on the down trodden.
It's the same reason jokes about the Jewish, Irish, Black, Pacific Islander, Mexican, Native American, Native Canadian, Indian or Romani people often receive negative reception, but you can make fun of the English, French, German, Italians, Greeks, Russians or Americans and typically get no grief
Christians, and Roman catholics in particular, are well known as the oppressors. Even in our own western "developed" countries, they mistreat minority groups, have excessive political power, and are known for terrible mistreatment of children causing lifelong trauma for many of their followers.
And if you're coming from a place of fear of terrorism, the regular missile strikes and oppressive military occupation the west has done far outweighs a couple of small scale bombings from Islamic fringe groups.
Those attacks are what cause the majority of anti-western sentiment and extreme political views in Islamic countries.
I'm not saying that all Muslims are shining stars by any means, but the worse Muslim individuals are no worse than the worst Christians.
Both religions teach both wrath and punishment, and peace and kindness.
Individuals take what they wish, or are forced into believing the words of their parents and local religious leaders.
Also that talk about being irreverent about climate change or coronavirus is utterly nonsense. Talking drivel will rightfully get you complaints, and making jokes in public forums is asking for trouble because many won't understand and are within the same rights as you to make that joke to talk back to you.
I watched plenty of comedy shows where jokes about those subjects are made. Some people just write bad jokes or present their political belief as a joke and then complain when people don't find it funny.
Anyway, back to religion.
