- Dougal learns about friendship when he starts hanging out with a rebellious priest; Father Ted's picnic is interrupted; a whistle is stolen.
Beloved sitcom focused on three priests living on Craggy Island, a remote island off the west coast of Ireland. Father Ted Crilly is sent to the island as punishment for using charitable funds for a holiday in Las Vegas, but his true punishment comes in the form of Father Dougal Maguire and Jack Hackett, one a fresh-faced naive young priest, and the other a foul-mouthed, rage-filled alcoholic. Mrs Doyle is their nosy housekeeper, who makes plentiful pots of tea and never takes `no' for an answer. Despite their isolation, the priests get into their fair share of mildly sinful, entirely madcap adventures.

In all the episodes I cannot remember a single character being less than perfect in their performance. A superb show.

The acting is so good I genuinely feel sorry for Ted when anything bad happens, especially when he had a disappointing and insulting experience at the picnic. That part made me feel really sad. The fact that he tries so hard to make things work and stays hopeful, is what makes him a v sympathetic character.

My 16 yo watched the whole series during the lockdowns and absolutely loves it! Every time I call him down for tea, he shouts “I’ll be there in a minute” imitating Damo’s accent and I can’t even get mad at him 😂 this series will never get old
That's phopping brilliant.
The thing I love most about this episode is Ted trying to come up with the mother of all stories to protect Dougal even though just saying he found the whistle in Dougal's pocket is the easiest choice. I mean you get the feeling that Ted is mostly a decent person throughout the series, especially in that second episode where he wishes God to do something about Father Stone and then immediately regrets it, but here is is jumping on a live grenade rather than telling everyone that Dougal somehow had the whistle.

When i first began watching this show, i always thought there was an actual episode around the famous 'the money was just resting in my account' line
Ted should have been a politician. Money resting in his account would have been unnoticed.
Me and my old man watched this episode so many times we had to buy the tape twice because the first wore out. My favorite memory of him was repeating the lines of Damo and Doogle.
Dougal is delightful :)

Father Damien should have had a bigger role in the series, and be on exorcisms...I wonder what a conversation between him, father Dougal and bishop Brennan would be like...
With bishop Brennan it will be extremely short. He will throttle him in 5 seconds.
He will do great on exorcism though. Demon will leave his host and posses father Damien in a heart beat.
