    What I kind of gathered from what he said (and from others' comments) is that he actually recommended to become a dispatcher first for like 6 months, then become a trucker lol. Or alternatively, if you start trucking first, to have someone else dispatch for you until you learn the ropes...then when you get good you can get rid of your dispatcher and dispatch for yourself if you want...but then when you're ready to scale and hire other truckers, you should get a dispatcher again to free up your time and hire your truckers as employees to improve your retention rate.
    I think if you want to lease under someone, you should make sure the owner is doing the dispatching for you or else you might be dissatisfied with the dispatchers they hire (either as employees or contractors), or you might be dissatisfied with the dispatcher you yourself hire if that is what you choose to do instead of using the owner’s dispatchers.
    So in summary, dealing with [inexperienced] dispatchers is a pain, and doing dispatching yourself can be a pain (until you find a few good brokers, which can make it much more easy). So you should drive contract for an owner who does your dispatching and lease from them. Or become an employee dispatcher first to get the training and to get exposed to the industry, then decide what to do from there...
    I might be way off... Someone please correct me if so.

    I dunno man, I can understand doing a dispatcher at the start and let them deal with getting you set up at the carriers, but the entire reason I got my own numbers is to self dispatch. Dispatching is the most important element of your income potential. A dispatcher is for the most part running your company because they are deciding what loads & income you make..
    I understand it works for some guys but I can tell you my biggest frustration when I drove semi's was never knowing where was going next, never being able to plan anything ahead of time and never knowing when I'd get my next load, not to mention not known how much the load would pay..
    You have to understand, by having a dispatcher, you are giving up complete control of your income potential. Yes sometimes that works very well for some guys, but man, I just can't do it.. I hated never knowing what was going on while waiting for loads.

      We’re dispatchers and we allow our clients to choose where they would like to drive into , we also give heads up on where there is more freight than truckers so that they have options on higher paying loads .
      We all try to negotiate for the HIGHEST price possible because we only charge 6.2 percent and the more your invoice is from manufacturers the more we get paid .

    I definitely believe in using a good broker that at least assures premium wage freight to be hauled . Of course not every load of going to be a King Kong rate paying load but at least 85% of the time . Once I worked with a guy in Memphis Tennessee that charged 15% but the loads were nice 97% of the time . So I can safely say you get what you pay for and cheap broker fees normally equals cheaper paying freight .

    Dispatch companies are a great business model for many reasons. Mostly due to the majority of guys in hotshot and trucking in general have zero business prowess or any basic business savvy. Although yes a dispatch company can be a usable service for a new operator, paying a percentage of the gross is idiotic. A 10% fee of gross is closer to 30% of the net. For those that don't get it think of this: you are paying a percentage for the fuel you are buying, also you are paying a fee for the income you pay yourself and every other expense of which there are many.
    If one was smart using a dispatch service it would be strictly on a flat fee per load basis. It's no more work to book a $4,000 load than it is for a $400 load.

    • @hlk466
      @hlk466 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's not true though. Anyone can go on there and pick the first load they look at (could be the very cheapest) A good dispatch will search and negotiate until they find a great load for you. It could mean the difference between 10 minutes and a few hours for your dispatcher.

    • @heavydoodie924

    • @hlk466
      @hlk466 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@heavydoodie924 I know its not a question for me but there are a ton of dispatch groups on facebook. Ive only seen a few flat fee and its usually a larger company that hires overseas dispatchers. The rate is usually 3-500. And the people on these groups say hotshots and box are very hard to find great loads for. The ones who take them usually charge 10% most of the time.

    I disagree with the rates. I’m a great dispatcher but for most I care about my drivers pockets. I know how much they have to keep up with as far a payments on trucks, insurance etc. My rates are low and they get the same Quality and Quantity as a dispatcher charging 10 to 15 percent. My drivers keep money in the pockets. They should never stress.

I figured another way to help drivers besides my videos was to provide a knowledgeable and experienced company that they can lease on to, and or use as a dispatch service. Unlike as I said in my video most services dont really have much invested and or dont have exp. Mine with have mc number and exp to back it up. If I can finish it I should be launching the video and website the same time. Hopefully monday 9-27-19.

  • @stephenmiller1958
    @stephenmiller1958 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry guys. Use your brains. A dispatcher should work on a rolling scale compared to your cost per mile. Cost per mile is easy to calculate and should include everything. Miles is actual miles. So a dispatcher should only get five per cent of your cpm if the rate for the load simply covers it. Then they get a rolling percentage increase for every 20 cents a mile above that. If you don't do this what is the incentive for the dispatcher to maximise your earnings per mile? The quid pro quo is that the dispatcher needs to know you will take all loads and the time frame you will be on the road and your hours of service. The only exception to this should be the load leaving home and returning home if you live in a bad area. If you are going out for 3 weeks the dispatcher needs to know you will drive for 210 hours and that they can book loads without consulting you. If you don't do this they will send you anywhere for $1.30 a mile. On this basis a dispatcher should keep you in the mid-west unless they have clients and contacts elsewhere. At say 7% a dispatcher who knows that you will pull all loads without consultation will probably profit more that one who has to consult you before every booking. But you have to let them know where you are and what hours you have available as well as area and weight.
