Your better off to get your own authority yes its harder in the beginning but it will pay much better because you will be the one who decides what a good rate is instead of just getting what that lease company decides what it wants to pay you.

Nice step by step price breakdown. Aspiring o/o’s keep in mind you can buy your truck and “lease on” (run under the operating authority of) an already established carrier. That will lower your start up costs. While leasing on you can save up to become independent if that’s your ultimate goal. Don’t confuse “leasing to” with “leasing FROM” a carrier. Leasing a truck FROM the carrier you run for is like the wolf guarding the sheep. #drivesafe

Geez you guys get everything cheap their .you wouldn't buy a set of steer tyres here in australia for the price of your truck registration (plates) .single trailer truck rego for comercial use is about $8000 tri axle trailers are $1000 fuel has come down a bit to $1.35 a litre here last time I paid insurance for my truck and to pull other people's tankers was $15000 in 2005 I paid $315000 for a new aerodyne kenworth .

That's really not expensive! Trucks cost way more than that, its probably used. I have a friend who drives and he spent $30000.00 just for the truck and it was well used @ 2,000,000 miles with a warranty to completely overhaul the engine which is about 27,000.00. So believe me this is not much how he's breaking it down with acquisition cost and fees??

VERY FIRST THING IS A FREE EIN FROM THE IRS. BE SURE TO NAME IT EXACTLY AS YOUR LLC FILING WITH THE STATE. I paid $500 for my LLC in Massachusetts. OOIDA will do the BOC-3 for free every year as long as you're a member. IFTA stickers will vary by state, Mass was cheaper this time at only $8.00. Drug consortium program from OOIDA is about $240 and includes the supervisor training. I'm surprised you were able to lease a trailer being in business for less than two years, most companies won't touch you. Don't forget about NY HUT, New Mexico, KYU, etc......
Is the age of the tractor or trailer ever a factor in being able to book a load with a shipper? For example if the age of the equipment is more than 10 years old we don't want you to move our freight?
It can be but its not always an issue. But if your going to be a leased operator to another trucking outfit then they are sometimes much more picky as to the age of your equipment.

Does any of what you listed besides the LLC, DOT, insurance, truck apply for starting a moving company?

I did all this but just slightly cheaper on most but I am in the heartland and my buddy does the Insurance..Bought a good older truck with cash No ELD as its older than 2000..
Im subbin and tryin to go to school for trucking as soon as it opens back up but im not doing to slave for someone else for another 20 years im trying to get experience and open my own company and your just what i was looking for!!

VERY FIRST THING IS A FREE EIN FROM THE IRS. BE SURE TO NAME IT EXACTLY AS YOUR LLC FILING WITH THE STATE. I paid $500 for my LLC in Massachusetts. OOIDA will do the BOC-3 for free every year as long as you're a member. IFTA stickers will vary by state, Mass was cheaper this time at only $8.00. Drug consortium program from OOIDA is about $240 and includes the supervisor training. I'm surprised you were able to lease a trailer being in business for less than two years, most companies won't touch you. Don't forget about NY HUT, New Mexico, KYU, etc......
I can put 5 trucks on the road with two car trailers for 60,000, all new equipment.

Is the age of the tractor or trailer ever a factor in being able to book a load with a shipper? For example if the age of the equipment is more than 10 years old we don't want you to move our freight?
It can be but its not always an issue. But if your going to be a leased operator to another trucking outfit then they are sometimes much more picky as to the age of your equipment.
You did a great job on the breakdown. As a person with over 10 trucks people need to see these numbers.
