Some of the most darkest and haunting metal songs ever weren't written about demons, curses, magic or anything. They were written about history. Slayer's Angel of Death, Cradle of Filth's Cruelty Brought thee Orchids. And this continues that trend amazingly. Human history is all the darkness and tragedy you need.
That's why I like Nile, their songs aren't violent for violence's sake, it's brutal because Ancient Egypt was brutal.
That's because the demons and curses and magic caused these wars

@@ДанЗмей They weren't the Serbs in Krajina suffered a lot during WW2 and were the large majority of the partisan movement.
And the only reason after WW2 they stayed as a part of Croatia was due to Jugoslavia and their guaranteed rights, which Croatia revoked started prasing NDH and was proviking the Serbs, they had no chose but to rebel.

This song has been stuck in my head for a couple of days. Such a powerful, emotional, dark and intense piece. 1914 are masters of modern Black Metal, like Mgła and similar bands.

Started to listening album and then suddenly I hear "Dobrodošli u Sarajevo" .. at first, no I´m imagining, then later I went to check back the lyrics, and indeed, they did it in our language haha... 🤘

I feel like this is what God Dethroned wanted to do, and I'm not knocking them, they are a great band. It's just that 1914 in its relatively short duration has shown so much more musical ability and can truly create the WW1 atmosphere.

i am not from the balkan or eastern Europe and don't know much about history in this area, i am from the middle east and i am here for the great music, those riffs were absolutely amazing, great song overall
Not just Balkan history, but European or World history in general. The song is about Gavrilo Princip
. He was part of a growing group of Bosnian Serbs, Bosniaks and Bosnian Croats who resented the annexation of Bosnia by the Austrian-Hungarian empire and ended up assassinating Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This assassination set in motion a chain of events that led to the invasion of Serbia by Austria-Hungary which started World War I.
The whole "I am a Yugoslav nationalist aiming for..." is what he said in court. And the title of the track is the model and serial number of the gun used in the assassination.
@@Voidkom i know about the WW1 because it was fought in the Middle East too like Europe, the whole Arabian revolt against the Ottomans and the invasion of Turkey. i know that it started by an assassination in Europe but don't know about the motives and details
@@Notyourbis The motive for WW1 was that AH (and Germany but they aren't as important in this OVERsimplification) wanted to expand like England, France and Spain but was late to the party. Then they saw the Balkans as the only way to expand, they annexed Bosnia, people didn't enjoy that, Gavrilo shot Franz, AH gave Serbia the ultimatum that compromised the territorial integrity of Serbia (AH inspectors would come to Serbia and "do their jobs" unobstructed by Serbian institutions) and Serbia accepted everything in that ultimatum except that one point. Serbia gave Europe the draft of their version of the ultimatum which was just a change in the one point they didn't accept (they offered a collaboration deal with AH inspectors instead in order to preserve territorial integrity). Everybody, even the German empire, agreed that the draft was good and should be accepted but AH wanted blood. They proceeded to make true on their threats and 4 years later AH was no more

Музыка для меня чересчур блековая, но сделано всё на уровне. Очень радует, что есть люди, вникающие в историю Первой Мировой со стороны точек зрения всех её участников. По-моему, в тексте Принцип нарочито показан парнем очень идейным, но политически наивным и недальновидным. В любом случае, после убийства эрцгерцога и его судьба, и судьба самой Сербии была не самой весёлой. Группе спасибо за пристальный интерес к теме, она неисчерпаемая. Было бы интересно послушать однажды вещь про Дикую дивизию, например) Мне как человеку с базовым историческим такие вещи всегда неравнодушны. Да, я из России, спасибо за музыку и глубокое владение темой.

The meaning of this song is horrifying. I just learned about it in history a couple of weeks ago, it horrified me to the depths.
The sad thing is that (hopefully) soon these guys can make a whole album about what their own country has had to experience.
