    Love both knives for different reasons. The Paramilitary 2 is superior in every way, but at the end of the day it just sits around at home like a prince and never really gets carried due to the fact that I'd feel kinda guilty for scratching up a $120 knife.

    I know this is an old video but here's my take. I own the para2, the military, the manix 2xl, the caly3 cf and the salt 1 as far as spyderco goes. I bought my brother and grandfather the tenacious. He's spot on with the g10, the tenacious is smooth and the g10 texture isn't as raised. The para2 g10 is very grippy. I won't go into what he's said because hes basically spot on, but for the money you can't beat the tenacious. For what you pay, you get A TON of knife. I buy higher end knives (CRK sebenza, higher spyderco, ZT for work knives, ESEE, etc.) and the tenacious has been on my list because of the quality. If I were using it for anything other than EDC, i'd get the tenacious. I treat my knives well and will use them hard, but if I were planning just hard work whether it would be a fishing knife, a work knife opening boxes, beating on it while camping, etc., id have no problem picking the tenacious. The lock is fine. Anybody who worries about a lock failing, go ask your grandfather how he still has all 10 digits when all he had was a slipjoint. It's called common sense.

      I saw a lock test of the tenacious and they hung 380 pounds off of the handle and it was fine.

    I owned and used both the Paramilitary 1 and 2 and have been using the Tenacious for the past five years. My verdict is that as an EDC blade, the Tenacious is superior. The Para has functions and advantages that are not in the realm of my every day needs and to be honest, the Tenacious sits just perfectly in my pocket. Love both but for me, advantage Tenacious :) Great vid Sir

    I love my Delica Wave and Tenacious, so I decided to bite the bullet and order a Para. How much more difficult is it to sharpen S30V compared to, say VG10 or 154CM? I am not necessarily an expert at sharpening.

    Thanks for the vid! I like to see how similar yet different they are. I own a Tenacious and it's one of my favorite blades. That said, I'm looking to "move up" so to speak, and I've got a Para lined up.

    Dwayne Myers - don't be disheartened. I own the camo Para 2 and my son just took delivery of the (all black) Tenacious. Blade steel aside (which matters little for EDC) the Tenacious feels nicer in hand, is more well proportioned and much nicer to use. F**king about with the opening and locking mechanism of the Para 2 can be fun, but let's be honest - it's a knife, not a Rubik Cube. I'm buying a Tenacious myself and it'll be my new EDC instead of the Para 2. Don't beleive the hype Dwayne. :)

    Great comparison man, I own a griptilian and a tenacious and I've been watching videos on the para2, and I gotta tell you that blade is pretty sick, so yes, you guessed it, my black on black should come in next week!!!! thanks for the video, awesome.

    I actually like the smaller hole more. The tenacious hole is just big enough to fit the tip of my thumb so I get consistent spydie hole flicks. While a bigger hole is also nice, I sometimes place my thumb too deep in the PM2, and can't get a good flick when that happens

      @masongates246 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ATF6281914 Thanks for your reply! I love the 710 but i have always had love for the spyderco's. The 710 is just a little on the large side. I have never held para 2. Guess I'll have to find a friend or a shop with one to check out.

      @mboe7944 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I own both. I like my PM2 better right now, but I just got it. In reality, I wouldn't say one is better than the other. Just a matter of preference really. Different steels, different locks, styling, blade length, deployment method. Depends what you want.
      My only small complaint on the 710 is that the G10 is a bit slick. The PM2 is super grippy.

    Guys if you're looking for a beater knife you're better off getting a 20-30$ fixed blade that will serve you much better and for a lot longer. If you're looking for a quality, classy every day carry knife, the Para 2 is without a doubt the way to go. I got mine last week and I can't say enough great things about it.

  • @ATF_CA
    @ATF_CA  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree it's not the best comparison, but it's what he wanted to see so I delivered.
    When I first got into knives I was thinking like you -- quantity over quality. But after a while those views have changed and it's now vice versa. Nothing is wrong with your frame of mind as we're all different. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

    thanks for the review. Im set on the Para2. I too agree with the quality over quantity philosophy. In the end, how many knives do you really need? EDC knives are like dress shoes. Just get a few quality and rotate them :) Now I have to decide between digicamo and black... dang

    Hi AFT, I use a tenacious with half serations as a utility knife on a shooting estate, its great for clearing spring feeders on feeding bins, cutting bailing twine and all rough work plus I dont mind it getting beat up at the price. For skinning and butchering birds and bunnys I use a d2 enzo with scandi grind,but I like the look and function of the mil2. The coolness factor of the blade deployments is another factor, all you mentioned about the blade metal, made in USA and just the feel have got me thinking that I might just go a bit upmarket(for me) and purchase this well made hunting folder, I wont be cleaning feeders with it though, it will stay in the shooting hut for finer work.

    I'm glad there are guys like you out there because I bought my first Spyderco last month; an Ambitious. I was pleased so much that I bought the Para 2, camo with black blade. Maybe I'm just a knife novice but I was like "uh, hmm, I just spend 135.00 on this?" After seeing this I can appreciate it a little more. My main reason for buying was because I heard that it's one of the few made in the US Spydercos. I'm happy with both but I'm def not saying to myself "man I stole this thing" regarding the Para 2. This knife collecting this can be addicting! However, I LOVE my Cold Steel TiLite. Talk about a knife with an attitude! Thanks for the vid.

      It looks kinda fake to me, the logo is duller than it should be - cannot tell if the hardware is - although it does not matter because the fakes and the real ones use the SAME steel and similar G10
      Not trying to be a dick just saying you should check if you still have it - I lucked out and mine turned out to be real, but there are apparently fakes of the Tenacious going around too now (you can buy them on chinese wholesale sites for like 20 or less)
      Go on DHGate and find a picture of the same colored one, and do some comparisons to try and find out if yours is - again really hard to tell

    My ZT 200 is great. Love it. Slices like a mother. I have'nt EDCed it that much but like the feel and grip better than the PM2. I actually also got an Emerson Horseman aka CQCmini 8. The Emerson is now my favorite because it has the best grip. I EDC it everyday.

    These two knives are a testament to the greatness of the Spyderco brand. The Tenacious is probably one of the best EDCs out there for less than $40, but the Paramilitary 2 is just too damn awesome. Don't forget to mention those nested steel liners, one of my favorite features of the PM2. Just a great All American EDC.....New York made steel, North Carolina made PPG fiberglass(G10), Colorado craftsmanship.....How cool is that?

    Point taken..your right i got alot to learn still when it comes to knives.Only been collecting seriously for about a year and a half..Have about 23 Kershaw just 3 Spyderco and some cold steel and a rat1 things like that.Only knives I spent 100.00 or more on is a custom buck 110 with S30V and a special edition Kershaw Blur with CPM 154.Truthfully I'm not a heavy knife use guy and the better steels don't really matter to me because of that.I'm no steel snob :) Still learning to sharpen

  • @JDxBiUE
    @JDxBiUE 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @knifeguy98 Really depends what you like, the PM2 is slim and is more of a slicing knife and has Spyderco's triangle-shaped blade. The 551 is a little bit bulkier and is more of a work horse. The PM2 is geared more towards being a tactical knife and not such a tank like the 551. And the 551 is only $90 while the PM2 is about $124.

  • @mrteosanchezz
    @mrteosanchezz 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I would say about 80% of most production knives values is in their blade steel. S30V is more expensive, not only to produce but also to machine and work with. All the carbides in the steel cause wear on grinding belts and other factory tools that 8cr13mov just doesn't. That's really where your money is going.

  • @christianjobes5571
    @christianjobes5571 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Im just going to say that what Hurd was that the handle is a little bit grippier, the hole is a little bigger, the blade shape a bit pointier, the lock is a little bit more fun, and that the steel is a little bit better. Yes these things do add up but in my humble opinion these improvements don't make for a blade that is three times the price.
    An upside to having the tenacious is that if you edc it and lose it your not heart broken. In fact the tenacious will do the same basic tasks that the paramilitary will. It will cut if you keep it sharp.
    The only reason I would buy the paramilitary over the tenacious is the fact that it is made in the US over the tenacious which is made in China. If you have the money sure you should buy the paramilitary but I believe that if you bought the tenacious instead the money you saved could be better served doing something else.

      He said he 'prefers'. It's his own preference. Whether someone else heed to his preference to make a choice on purchasing a knife is entirely up to that person. What does your 40 years of experience with knives have anything to do with others preference? Because I can count a handful of people I personally know who have had to use their knives to defend for them selves. And I personally had 3 altercations where I ended up having to fend for my self with my edc knife I happened to have been carrying and I am no where close to the amount of years you have with knives.

    I'm with danny1441. I own both the para mili 2 and the tenacious. The pm2 is funner to play with, but if you're looking for value per dollar spent, tenacious all the way. I HARD use my tenacious almost every day as a beater and I cannot complain one bit for the overall function and design of the knife. It has NEVER failed me. Whereas the pm2 sits in my knife case. I've found that if you spend 100+ on a knife, you tend to use it a lot less. If you're looking for value, go with the tenacious.

  • @sl66ICEcuba

    Apples and oranges, both are excellent knives and have there high and low points and roles. P2 is more tactical while Ten is more a work horse. You do get a bit more for the P2 but than again the price is more, US made, S30v, etc. Ten is a great blade that I am not afraid to thump on because it is priced so well, however, 8Cr13MOV is a higher maintenance metal, rusts very easy. Both can stand the abuse but are you willing to do it to a higher priced knife? Depends on price and what you prefer.

    I'm wondering the same thing as knife guy. My only concern is that the BM will feel cheap.

    @ATF6281914 lol yeah its nice but not nice enough to do time over - it would need a damascus blade for that!

    I've owned the Para 2 and the BM 551 and you can't go wrong with either.

    I ages. I like the pointier blade on the para. And there is definitely differences in the quality of g10 out there. And the lanyard hole on the tenacious is so grad towards the middle of the knife I would consider it unusable. The lanyard position on the para is in a good spot. I haven't decided if I like lanyards or not but some do so its a consideration.

    Para 2 just has better steel and a cooler locking system. Honestly I think anything over 50 bucks is all about if you want a luxury item.

    You're talking about a cheaper knife that you can abuse. I'm saying the Para 2 is the all-around better knife.

    Kinda seems like tenacious is a good value if its going to be a work knife etc that you dont need to worry about. Youre kinda just stroking your knife that you like better when most people who actually use their knife daily might prefer the cheaper of the two

    you're talking about a knife that's $100 cheaper, and I seen a comment about comparing the manix 2 to the tenacious but I like my manix better than my para 2. the tenacious is a great knife for the $35 I paid for it at walmart.

    I respect Spyderco's quality i own seven of them however i tend to mostly carry the Tenacious or the Gayle Bradley. Not a big fan of choils (especially on folders) and the Tenacious and GB have minimal choils. To me a choil makes the knife bigger and longer without adding any more cutting edge. I wish Spyderco made more models with minimal choil area.

    @f60w What about the Resilience 41/4 inch blade and its a biggon {BIG} folder blade wise.You know your got a knive in your hand when your holding the Resilience let me give you the drum.The big difference though between the Tenaciuos & the Resilience is that the Tenacious has those Blar Blar-Brass washers what ever there called were as the Resilience doesn't. One might not think that's much but because of it The Tenaciuos will last a hell of a lot longer because of it.. GO SOG VULCAN VL-01

    Haha...that's what she said... great addition to the video! :)
    Anyway, great review, although I am about to get both of them. I recently picked up a Benchmade Griptilian, which is my first "nice" knife, and now I am looking at more... :)
    I want the ParaMilitary 2 to be my first Spydy knife, as well as my first knife with S30V... I want to get the Tenacious to be my "beater" knife and not be so upset if I should happen to lose it...
    Anyway, thanks for the review!

    My guess is that the tenacious is gonna last every bit as long as that paramilitary 2, and It will cut just as well. The paramilitary 2 is a great knife made in the USA and that's great but I really don't see $100 justifiable difference in these two pocket knives. I'd probably just opt for one of each of Spyderco budget knives versus one paramilitary 2. just my opinion though.

    Im new to the knife hobby. so far ive collected only 4 pocket blades and 1 fixed blade. Most of them in S30V or VG10. Your review reminded me when I was into guns. buying all those cheap plastic guns when I could just get a few nice ones like 1911's or sigs. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY PPL. dont be a cheap*&@ pay the cost to be the boss.
