I have about a dozen Spyderco knives. Not a big fan of the compression lock models, as they pinch my index finger 9 out of 10 times I open them, regardless of size. I picked up the 40 dollar version of the Tenacious, and liked it so much I got the CPM M4 version. Of all the Spidies, the Tenacious is one of the most comfortable and user friendly knives I have. I polished a set of copper scales for the PM2, and will never see my pocket, Lol.
This is an interesting comparison. Alex at Outdoors55 did an edge retention test between these two. The Tenacious actually held up pretty well. I think Spyderco does a really good heat treat on their 8cr13mov. That being said, the PM2 is definitely a finer quality piece. Thanks for the info.
Agreed, I was a little hesitant at first because of the steel, but it's so well done I don't regret it at all. The knife is a tank, the blade shape is great for most common tasks, there's not much to complain about for a daily use knife.
Ok its all a bunch of marketing b.s, honestly the tenacious is all the spyderco you should need.besides i dont mind sharpening my blades i love my stones and strops as much as i love my knives it all passion i get more pleasure from sharpening them than looking at them

I personally have yet to see any reason to pay $100+ for ANY knife. Personally, I've worked construction, and hunted and fished all of my life, and I would never pay over $100 for anything that doesn't take ammo.

Spyderco needs to either change the steel or lower the price. When you can spend ~$50 and get D2 on a Civivi Elementum or spend ~$80 and get S35VN for the same knife, the Tenacious doesn’t hold up. You’re just paying that “Spidey tax.”

Good review but saying it's not as good because it was made in China is incorrect. The knife was designed to be a budget/entry level knife so it has cheaper steel and made in China for lower labor cost. China can make the same high quality Para 2 with same steel, etc for less because of labor costs. For the same reasons, a US made Tenacious with the same materials would be above the $50 price point because of various labor and taxes.
These are good knives no doubt about it, but with that said I'm afraid I can't buy either. Nope, I just can't justify the cost of either knife. The Ganzo G710 is a much better value and I know that it's made in China but so is the Tenacious as well as many other knives produced by various other manufactures that are based in the USA. I really wish that American manufactures could compete better with off shore manufactures, but IMO, we only have our great and wonderful politicians and over-greedy American corporations to thank for the situation we are currently in. They have been selling out the American people and American manufactures for years and I don't know how that will ever change but I believe that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we are progressing towards it fast. If you really want to see American manufactures do better, then my advice to you is to pay close attention to American economic policy and really consider who you vote for in all of the upcoming election cycles. You may also want to consider which American manufactures that you do support because politically, they are not all created equal, recent events in the news concerning Benchmade comes to mind. You may disagree with me and think "what the eff does this have to do with this video?" and my response would be that it has everything to do with this video, American economic policy is the driving force behind everything that is manufactured in the USA, and production cost is a big part of the equation.
@@blueeyeswhitedragon9839 I am not against overseas made items, do not like China made though much at all. I have bought higher prices knives and failed to be impressed I have a griptilian in s30v and I will hands down take the tenacious over it. I also have a cheap esee avispa in D2 and the performance of that steel is no better than the 8cr13mov using them both on my job in a warehouse.
First thing: I don't know why people care how sharp a knife is "out of the box". You're never going to re-sharpen it? Second thing: People not liking liner locks because it puts your thumb in the path of the blade, and is "dangerous"? If you don't want to get hurt, don't play with knives!
I thought the Tenacious would be a really good beater knife. I purchased one with the FRN handles so I wouldn't baby it. It feels very cheap and plastic but it's lightweight with no play at all. It definitely covers the bases as a beater. It had so many pluses compared to negatives that I immediately ordered a Para 3.

Just watched a video of the s30 vs the 8cr13mov In real cutting tests and retention. The results are pretty funny for anyone who likes to run around and say how superior the s30 is. Tenacious is the winner here, unless you like to throw away $100 bills

Made in USA means everything to me, do I wear everything made in America? No but with knives I can make easier decisions choosing the made in USA! American made knives provide their workers a great life and usually have WAY better built knives and better warranty!
I can't argue with any of that, but I don't really feel that way about Spyderco. I carried a Japan made Delica 4 for almost 10 years, still do on occasion. I have knives from all their factories, except Italy, and I feel the quality of craftsmanship is up to par, but the materials used usually aren't. I have two of the Tenacious models, one in the Chinesium, and one in CPM M4. The M4 version was almost 3 times the price, but you can definitely feel the difference. They feel like two different knives. For a sub $100 knife, I think the Tenacious is a great option, and at around 130 buck or so, you can get one with some decent steel.
A Spyderco made in China is the same quality as one made in USA (some knives from China are even better). If the PM2 was made in China, it would have been the same because it's the same Company. American knife makers are not any better than Chinese knife makers.

18cr13mov with a good heat treat, is a much better steel, than Chinese D2. D2 is hard to put a sharp edge and also takes much time and harder, than normal tools. 18cr13mov, holds just fine and is more stainless resistant than D2, which is much more preferable for a folding edc knfe. Stop, that nonsense, with steel snobs etc. It is a marketing trick, as the knife batoning trick, that has not only sold, thousand of knives, but also, knife batoning makes knves break, so they sell even more. If you don't sell knives, and you only review knives. Leave aside those marketing tricks. 1stp of all, most people, buy those knives, to play with them and not use them. 2nd, blade geometry, general blade design and heat treatment, is what makes a knife cut and slice good. not the steel. Steel, should be the last, people should look for. Also, expensive super steels etc, are very brittle and very hard to maintain (sharpen-repair edge damage etc). Same goes for shootings, though it is a muddier area for A. an accident often is lethal B. a legal gun can be stolen and used on the streets, where liberals will aways protect the minority and in fact the legal owner might end up in court for having bad storage.
Went to comments to check if anyone counted how much times he said "It's going to be"
The "it's going to be" drinking game would be fatal
They can easily just upgrade the steel on the tenacious then I’d buy one.
No they can't easily do it. Sal has said their Chinese manufacturers refuse to work with better steels. I think he mentioned something about them not having the proper heat treating equipment.
Judgedbyall No need. They both hold the edge at the same rate. And ones easier to sharper. Been tested too many times on TH-cam. But buy American if it makes you feel good. Makes me feel good. Love that USA logo.
Once you have the pm2 in hand all is understood
Spyderco just announced a Tenacious with s35vn blade for around 98 bucks.
@Mickey McCracken Where did I say I wanted that. I just added info to the comments about upgraded steel to the Tenacious.
You should review nail clippers.
Lmao Jesus leave the man alone
Great for self defense tho.
The question here is..." do you need those little extras and the blade quality of the Paramilitary 2 vs. the longer cutting edge and monetary savings of the Tenacious ?"
For an EDC pocket knife...the Tenacious is A OK.
For military use, survival in the bush...the Paramilitary 2 might be for you.
Real life...Tenacious
Armchair warriors...Paramilitary 2
Liner locks are not dangerous, if you know what you're doing. For a person that actually uses their knives a softer steel is better.
exactly, i've never cut my thumb in 20 years of using these types of knives. I use the tip of my thumb as opposed to the middle portion
I have a tenacious and use it everyday at my job and haven’t had any issues or dulling of the blade (cutting rope and shrink wrap) it’s a solid knife for the price point …..I’ve had benchmade and lost all of them😡😡😡😡 tenacious is definitely cheaper to loose 😝
The compression lock isn’t like a liner lock in the back. One is an opposing force in one direction. The other is an opposing force in two directions.
Got both... and the PM2 is absolute another level then the Tenacious, but then again the price is also much lower. You just cannot beat the smoothness of the PM2. Its just like butter
You gotta try the Para 3 now. It's even better! If you like a smaller knife.
I got a carbon fiber tenacious I love it I recently just ordered a pm2 I can’t wait
My tenacious refuses to dull. It’s the blade that really drove home how crucial geometry is in blade shape.
Hmmm, I love my Tenacious. If it came in S30V or S35VN, it'd probably be the only knife I carry.
they make one in s35vn
Can’t wait to get my hands on the paramilitary 2 personally
are these knifes assisted or is he just flicking it really hard
Dude, I don't have the energy to look through comments to see is anyone else heard this, but you are McLovin' doing knife reviews...lol.
Great review "Knife Review". Quick question, r u the same guy from "Shade Review"?
Yes this is my third channel and my newest!
So thats why your voice sounded very familiar
Ok its all a bunch of marketing b.s, honestly the tenacious is all the spyderco you should need.besides i dont mind sharpening my blades i love my stones and strops as much as i love my knives it all passion i get more pleasure from sharpening them than looking at them
Looks as if you used a deburring blade on the para 2. You can lightly run a deburring blade on the tenacious thumbhole and that'll take care of any sharp edging.
😆 anybody can skew their own reviews any way they please. Personal experience is the ONLY absolute decision. Depends solely on your own use of the knife. I personally have yet to see any reason to pay $100+ for ANY knife. Personally, I've worked construction, and hunted and fished all of my life, and I would never pay over $100 for anything that doesn't take ammo.
Man iv never heard it put better than this!! Your comment is 💣💥
I feel the same way... But bought a manix 2 let for 65$ used with bd1n steel that's about my range for expensive knifes. Lol.
@@chrissexton6634, I bought a Spyderco Tenacious for somewhere around $45 even though I thought Spydercos were ugly. If I could find a Manix 2 for that price I'd be all over it!
@@ronstoner1823 I did for sure. And then bought the tenacious lw with black oxide coating. Lol have a problem.
@@chrissexton6634, I also bought the lw, no oxide coating. I don't do much black ops stuff. But yeah, I like it a lot, cary it a lot. I have no complaints. I also bought a Brother knife (budget Manix 2), pretty happy with it too. When the Brother knife finally showed up it was scary sharp out of the box. MUCH sharper than the Spyderco Tenacious lightweight.
I like the colors and the blade shape of the Tenacious. I would love to see a Tenacious in quality materials.
Spyderco needs to either change the steel or lower the price. When you can spend ~$50 and get D2 on a Civivi Elementum or spend ~$80 and get S35VN for the same knife, the Tenacious doesn’t hold up. You’re just paying that “Spidey tax.”
Seems like if you're more utilitarian the differences between these are less than negligible. They both open and close, they both slice, they both have good grip. I feel like if you're quickly whipping your knife out and using it you're not gonna notice damnear any difference
Hey buddy how can I get mine to open deploy fast man is hard I already messed with the screw and Nada still very hard to open nothing like yours I have that tenasious
CJ Barba I had the same issue you’ve gotta put a tiny bit of oil on the pivot and don’t the right technique
You sound like the comic book guy from the Simpson's 😂
And that is not a bad thing
Not at all
Worst. Post. Ever!
China is trash anything made in America is always better...
They’re both THE SAME KNIFE!
Like Zoolander’s looks.
🤣
Good video, got right to the point. You say Spyderco over and over again. We KNOW it's a Spyderco. Jeez man!
worth the money for the pm2
Harley Fillmore three times the price of the tenacious.
Fugly blades
Ex-Sub Sailor
I have the Ganzo g710 and the tenacious and there is simply no comparison, it’s a completely different kind of knife
Was interested in the Tenacious until you said "Made in China". I'll pass now and pay more for a "Made in USA" model, like the PM2.
Manix 2 is another great choice.
JB54379 :- Also trade in your phone, computer, tablet, TV...for a made in U.S. model...good luck!
Ouch!
@@blueeyeswhitedragon9839 I am not against overseas made items, do not like China made though much at all.
As you stated, many items are made overseas that we all own, but if there is a better USA made item from the brand I am willing to pay a little extra to support USA jobs.
Do you consider that wrong?
Awesome! Thanks for the great video
Thanks for watching!
“Going to” ?...?.?.
Dude... watch your videos and listen to how often you say “going to.”
Liner locker?
I have bought higher prices knives and failed to be impressed I have a griptilian in s30v and I will hands down take the tenacious over it. I also have a cheap esee avispa in D2 and the performance of that steel is no better than the 8cr13mov using them both on my job in a warehouse.
Just curious (I could just look up) but for the sake of people knowing.. does the tenacious come with the lifetime spydie warranty?
The only thing I don't really like about the Spyderco tenacious is the pocket clip too much of the knife sticks out of the pocket
James McIntyre Put a Lynch Northwest clip on it. Make sure you have a quality driver to take the screws out. They’re cheap screws
I have both of these I like them both honestly and if you didn’t know it in my opinion I don’t think u would say the 2 is 100 bucks more unless u know steels and knives obviously
$47 for the tenacious ❗️They're £80 in the UK 😫
Where can i get this version of the tenacious?
Blade HQ
Just watched a video of the s30 vs the 8cr13mov In real cutting tests and retention. The results are pretty funny for anyone who likes to run around and say how superior the s30 is. Tenacious is the winner here, unless you like to throw away $100 bills
Nice review yet again! Get this man more subs!
Thanks so much! I’m just starting be hoping to keep getting better
Knife Review just keep the videos coming! I love all kinds of knife videos and I watch reviews to decide what I want to buy! I’ll be coming to your channel a lot to see what I want next! If you ever need knives to review I can let you borrow some!
only if he cuts his nails
Why do you keep saying 'is going to be'? Like the knife hasn't happened yet... Did anyone else find this super annoying?
Meh
I got the $50 one cause I'm not a price barbie
I have the tenacious and i love it..im not a knife enthusiast tho
Those nails put squirrels nails to shame!
Shaper then the knife 😬
That blade is not worth a 100 dollars more no way is .
You think that up until the point you have one in your hand, and understand metallurgy. The PM2 is offered in many different, better classed steels, but even here with S30V, it's light out.
You're probably not a knife guy, but the PM2 will make you one.
Xrilliam7.62 yup. I bought a tenacious and decided to buy a pm3 bc the pm2 is too big for my small hands. Sold my tenacious instantly 😂
I want the tan one so bad and it’s never ever in stock
Great review man.
Dudes are complaining about his nails but it’s bothering me everytime he says “knifes” 😭😭😂. Cool vid tho
If you want a large folder in 8Cr13MoV try the CRKT Bob Kasper. Half the price of the tenacious.
And a really nice knife !
I will never be able to trust those locking systems 🤷🏻♂️
A Spyderco made in China is the same quality as one made in USA (some knives from China are even better). If the PM2 was made in China, it would have been the same because it's the same Company. American knife makers are not any better than Chinese knife makers.
You couldn’t be more wrong 😂😂😂
@@KnifeReview Explain why a knife, which is made by the SAME company, will be better when it's made in the USA than when it's made in China? Are you assuming that Chinese knife makers are incompetent?
There’s a reason why Spyderco makes all there shit knives in China. And there expensive nice ones in Golden CO.
WTF? Are you drunk or high? How dare you reply to me like this!
Your videos are 💩, not knives made in China! 😡
Let's play drinking game: every time he says "going to" have a shot :D
still can't find my tenacious. i want a pm2 but can't justify buying it. my edc is a reate D9=A. AND WOULD HURT FAR MORE IT I HIT SOMEONE WITH OT. IT'S HEAVY AS FUK BUT IN A GOOD WAY IMHO.
Yes the pm2 has better steel until you wind up with a fake pm2
I own both , both are excellent really but each in their own way , and obviously when comparing my s110 v pm 2 vs the 8cr of my tenacious there is zero comparison. Still though the tenacious is great for what it is and now that it is offered in better steel I may buy another .
Love my pm2 LH.
I buy American made spyderco's if I want less I buy crkt!
Or you could use 2 hands to close and open
The Tenacious has rounded handles, the PM 2 don't ☹️👎
I have a smith and Wesson knife that is $25.
Me too made by Gerber I heard
They’re just too big for me and I’m 6foot5. I wish I could see them in Person . I wonder if spyderco would ever do a para 2 mini ??
Try the para 3
I sure hope that the paramilitary it better, its $140...
Oh its amazing I own one had it for a year and haven't sharpened it yet and used it all the time and it still has a pretty good edge on it
@@joel5716 I have the tenacious right now and I was planning on buying the pm2. I was actually going to but the benchmade bugout caught my eye before I could get to it 😂. Im still going to get one tho.
@@christianhaykus452 🤣🤣 I feel that
18cr13mov with a good heat treat, is a much better steel, than Chinese D2. I just like truth, and hate money, sorry if my words hurt, it is the nature of truth. Take care
This guy knows what he is talking about!
Does spyderco sell nail clippers? 😂😂😂
Isn't the Tenacious made in China? That's worth the extra hundred alone.
I’ve had my Tenacious for years! Darn good knife!! No lack of quality even tho its made i n China!
@@redbertiethechampion1863 I wasn’t saying the knife was bad or poor quality. Only that it’s made by a country whose government is nothing short of evil.

Full of dog squeeze! Not gunked up! You took a sharpie to it. Why cant you just admit it????????????
I have Tenacious it is a great knife but I would like to have Para 3 it seems to be a better 😁 @djole8590 all the best form Serbia
You didn’t sell me on the extra $100. Your nails need to be cut, maybe it won’t take a chunk out every time you open the tenacious?
Geez what a prick, what's wrong find out your boyfriend's cheating on you
Use the para 2, to cut them nails 🤢
