Fun fact AC 4 is where miyazaki debut which is the easiest ac game and then he made AC For Answer which is a better/hard(/masochist mode if ya love retrying missions) version of AC 4 while the harder AC is AC Last Raven/ AC 3 which is why soulsborne genre are achievable for them, like they just have to add some elements for them in fantasy genre hence born bloodborne, Sekire, Elden ring etc Edit: also money is weapon in this genre...... (The number of bullets and missiles costs)
I know a lot of people enjoy for answer, but i feel like the ps3 games, were kind of built with multyplayer in mind while the others are more catered towards a single player experience, thats what i have heard at least
Like others have said, Armored Core 4 and For Answer are the most streamlined controls, and have the best customization of the series. I'm really hoping they decide to utilize that as the model for AC6 because it feels so nice.
Idk about best customization… but otherwise yea they are fairly streamlined, although they do a bad job of explaining what the stats mean, other games sometimes do a better job in regards to giving stat descriptions, and also I’m pretty sure either silent line or last Raven have the most customization options
Yeah it was kind of fun for me later, trying to figure out the controls since youre controlling a giant robot, but after playing 4th and 5th gen ... boy, am i glad we have analog sticks now xb
I hope your channel will grow rapidly in future. Iike the way you present your videos and the editing is very nice, much better as expected for such a small channel :)
It helps to remap your look controls to the face buttons, and movement to dpad, boost to l1, weapon swap to r1, shoot to r2, and left hand to l2. Makes it feel much more comfortable.
One of my favorite. You just get used to the controls and it becomes no issue at all. I did the same thing too, I changed strafe L and R to the L and R on the d-pad and used L1 and R1 for the turns.
You know you can ghetto rig all the AC games before AC3 Nexus to use dual analogue controls. You just have to perform a back-alley surgery on the control mappings via the emulator. It helps to have an image mapping out all the default controls and what the game thinks each button should do, then going to those buttons and making them go somewhere else. Swapping the bumpers (Which i vaguely recall were strafe?) to the L/R axis of the Left Analogue, stuff like that. Your menu controls will however be irrevocably FUCKED and you will suffer as I have. 😅
Yeah i have been told so xb but i still decided to play through all of these games with their normal control methods to get a better sense of the difficulty/balance :)
If you intentionally lose a bunch of money, your pilot gets "experimented on" to get out of debt, which essentially turns you into a Gundam New Type pilot.
when fromsoftware shows "mercy" xb i guess the system was suppose to help people who were sucking it hard but it is a very cool feature :) some people online think its cheating, others think its the best way to play the game
My first game to this franchise was Armored Core 2. Yes the controls are very complicated and hard to get used to. But once you figure it out, it's a great game. But the controls are deliberate so to speak. Starting in Armored Core Last Raven is when the right analogue stick finally works. But no, this game is super slow. Armored Core 4 is where the combat becomes fast .The early games are slow.
Oh i know , i havr played quite a bit of armored core up until now, its all in the channel if you wanna see it! But as a first timer, specially in 2023, it is definitely wild jumping into 3rd gen or below xb although i did enjoy AC3 a lot
I recommend you pass some time in the arena, you can get pretty a bunch of money for buy any part what you want(apart of this fight in the arena don´t cost any money so you can try without of problem). secondly press attention for the stats of the parts are VERY IMPORTANT, for example; you legs have stats for: moving ability(the speed of your movement). energy drain(this is important because your generator is the provides all energy for your AC, or in other words, more energy consumption = lower recharge the energy meter, or if you exceed the limit of your generator well good things no happens). weight(Limit the weight of part you can put in your AC example: You purchase a 5000 weight legs you can equip parts which combine weight don´t exceed that limit, and again if you exceed that limit bad things happens) Armor point(Your LP). ETC And the most important thing, the class of the leg, why this is important?, because each type of leg have different properties, Bipedal(standard legs), quad( allows you use back-weapon without stand in one place back weapons are for example: LASER and PULSE cannons, grenade launcher, basically any type of cannon), hover(hover around surface, for example: if you chose a mission with water as predominant surface the hover legs are your best option), tank(for heavy weapons) experiment.
Probably impossible unfortunately. That would require permission from Agetec (the publishers of oldgen AC games), and well, they don't exist anymore. Basically all of From's old games are stuck in publisher hell.
@@TheAntlionGuard if they don’t exist wouldn’t publishing rights transfer to from soft, also Bandai is currently publishing the game and they have money… so if they think there is enough interest I’m sure they would find a way to get them remastered on modern stuff. I have played 3 already (still need to edit that video) and quite liked it, very similiar to 2 but feels better.. after that i might hop straight into 4A
Welcome to Armored Core. By the time AC6 is released, rest assured the controls are modernized for your convenience but the game is still a FromSoftware game at heart. Enjoy learning to be a pilot of an AC. If you want a classic Armored Core game with analog support, try Armored Core 3
@@ruikiri they're referring to later AC3 entries, I think it was around Silent Line that they added them. tip do not learn while in a mission learn your movement first in the garage use the AC test and practice, practice until you can move like a nimble butterfly, "double tap" or feathering your boosts so you can go further in short you need to keep on tapping boost when flying this way you have small increments of energy recharge
Here an advice when playing the older AC games (AC1 to AC3:SL). Change the control layout to the newer PS2 Armored Core games (Nexus to Last Raven) to make it less confusing. Don't worry, even I question how I played AC2 back in the day as a kid with these archaic tank controls. Control Layout: L1 - Action/Blade L2 - Boost R1 - Fire Weapon R2 - Weapon Swap X - Look Down Square - Move Left Triangle - Look Up Circle - Move Right D-Pad Down - Move Back D-Pad Left - Look Left D-Pad Up - Move Forward D-Pad Right - Look Right L3 - Extension R3 - Overboost Hint: If you want to get Human Plus easy, buy the Machine Gun that has 1000 rounds, sell and buy parts so you have higher hp (the more hp you lose, the more credits it costs to repair). Fail the first mission by wasting your 1000 rounds then dying. You will easily reach almost -25k credits. Do it until you get -50k credits for a cutscene to play which will give you Human Plus but resets you back to the beginning of the game with 0 credits and both pilot and AC name erased. Human Plus upgrade (the upgrade is how many times you keep going to -50k credit): 1) Radar permanently available regardless head part or back radar equip or not 2) EN Recharge rate improved 3) Booster Consumption rate decreased 4) Cooling improved 5) Blade Wave activated on all laser blade weapons 6) Cannon Restriction Disabled (able to use cannon type weapons while moving regardless of leg type) 7) Missile Cancel/Counter regardless of core part 8) Weight Restriction Disabled (no longer gain overweight penalty)
Dude tried to play armored core with a slow methodical playstyle. This really is a dark souls player trying to play armored core. It might've been better to start with the first game, because it has the best tutorial
Yes i realize my mistakes now xb but the overall awkwardness of the controls wasnt giving me too much confidence in moving around at will, but ive been playing through ac3 and learning some things :D
@Ruikiri makes sense, I still think it would've helped more to start with armored core 1, the first mission is just 2 mts that you have to fight in a 2 story arena, and it's all about boost strafing and jumping. There's also this medieval armored core dreamcast game called frame gride that kinda reminds me of souls but plays like an arcade armored core
Do NOT play as if it is a shooter just because you got guns. Movement is very important. And with old games the controls aren't so bad. Many games still use those types of controls even though they're mostly platformers and racers. That's right, mario, sonic, pre-PS4(?) rachet & clank players, even MMO players, and more can do this just fine. Hell they'd be all over the GO FASTER button in a flash. You CAN try to rig the controls to emulate a modern shooter, but take it from a vet like myself whose been in so many games: don't. Just don't. >Learn how to move FOR REAL. >The customization and parts are not there MERELY as upgrades. Even though many of the default parts, except the core, suck, like they should. Focus on what you want. But seriously, replace some of inner parts. >25:00 It is actually...There's even weapons that are incapable of lock-on. Rockets and blades. Even though blades do have some tracking, especially if you are locked on with another weapon. >25:30 You see......This is made back during the time where the games came with a small manual booklet, which fell out of style during the rise of digital gaming. Even if you hadn't read it, it's very easy to figure out what button is the action/event button. Push buttons.
Why isnt Armored core more popular if it was so good? Me: ahh, that is a good question. But it is a question that i am not able to best answer. Please let me show you. (Walks over and opens door) Ruikiri: WTF IS WITH THESE CONTROLS!
Its true the challenge and accessibility are tough , its the type of game that while fun, its not something that everyone is going to spend time to learn it...which is classic fromsoftware i guess xb plus i feel like mech genre is somewhat niche :/
@@ruikiri just so you know 5th gen is the most controller friendly AC game there is but it was the second time AC as a franchise shifted its tone to the detriment of the fanbase but good luc just so you know Nexus introduced the dual stick support which takes place just after silent line but due to the drastic change on the back end you can not use your silent line save to transfer stuff
Context on why there are mixed oppinion on AC games AC2: Its basically AC Masters of Arena(Gen 1) but significantly improved, only downside is the game doesnt color code specific stat up and down that are supposed to be positive and negative like how more weight is bad and lower weight is good AC 3 and Silent Line: Basically 2 Games that are direct after each other, massively improved AC2 especially Silent Line and only downside is Heat system is really unbalanced in 3rd Gen Nexus and Last Raven: The 2 big changes of the franchise from Gen 3, Nexus introduce Joystick Controls but the game is too short and the balancing is unbearable, Last Raven tried fixing stuff but somehow made the game the *HARDEST* Fromsoftware title ever, not even Dark Souls 2 were this BS For Answer: Its the easiest story AC game(Except for the 3rd Route Final Mission on Hard) with the most INSANE Online PvP experience, 4th Gen Control in general are great even if the game is too easy
from what i gathered people really like 4 answer but 5 seemed to be a bit underwhelming... for someone interested in gameplay only (at least right now) is 4 worth trying? or could you just skip to 4 answer because its an improved version?
@@ruikiri AC4 is weird, its mostly underwhelming(Not bad but not great) except the story which involves around the Number 1 Arena Pilot Joshua O Brian who is also your Partner funnily enough and thats important for ACFA plot AC5.... is a mess, its the Dark Souls 2 of the series where Parts and gameplay design is just too weird and somehow 70% of the content went to Multiplayer Verdict Days the improved version TRIED fixing AC5, while it is actually better than AC5(Even has the most OST in the series including Remixes), 5th Gen is still the weakest title
@@ruikiri you only play 4 because the plot is kinda "integral" but not the gameplay itself that goes to ACfA, the criticism for 5th gen is well.... its more chromehounds than AC, but the worst game probably still goes to Ninebreaker. as for VD the more I observed the more it makes sense it corrected V's very vertically dense maps for more fA style open maps but thats also to the detriment of the movement abilities 5th gen has or the point of why the systems in 5th gen exists
AC2 got me into the franchise. I know people go on and on about Gen 4 and For Answer... But the best part of those games is the smoothing out (and maybe making it a bit too flashy and Gundam like) of the movement. Gen 2 and 3 had the best aesthetic and vibe overall! You should play Gen 3 and Armored Core 3 for what is widely considered the best of old gen. Also the old gen controls IMO makes sense because youre piloting a giant mech... It should take skill. Thats how it makes sense to me anyway, it should be mechanical and not feel like your own body. After that you should get onto For Answer. (Also you can't heal mid mission in armored core because then the debt mechanic wouldnt make sense! Only some longer missions have resupply trucks.)
The difference between 4 and For Answer is so night and day that I almost recommend people just skip straight to FA, but the significance of the companies and White Glint from 4 makes FA feel so much cooler. I really hope they decide to keep with the fast and flashy, but skill based movement. Fromsoft has never failed us before so I have high hopes
I 100% agree. Gen 2 and gen 3 feel like the true spirit of the concept. With the right remapping, they feel downright modern. I play a ton of gen 2, as it is my absolute jam.
@@LarroldTheCaveman I cant say I agree with wanting fast and flashy. I think quickboosting in 4A bordered on ridiculous. It should feel a little more grounded even with flying, I don't think you should borderline be able to perma fly. Not saying its bad by any means. I just prefer it to feel a little more grounded! I think given their expertise with souls games and balancing builds fast and zoomy wont be the default. But I think every build type will have trade offs for the good and bad.
Armored Core was telling players to "git gud" before the Soul's series existed. None of the PS2 games hold your hand, and Last Raven is the hardest of them all.
Think of it this way. Armored core and dark souls are different, but they are similar in Challenge. And the rewards are delicious once you get the hang of it.
these are not Tank Controls xb this is a system that should use two analog sticks but doesnt xb resident evil 1 for example have tank controls in which you move the character relative to herself and not the camera

Fun fact AC 4 is where miyazaki debut which is the easiest ac game and then he made AC For Answer which is a better/hard(/masochist mode if ya love retrying missions) version of AC 4 while the harder AC is AC Last Raven/ AC 3 which is why soulsborne genre are achievable for them, like they just have to add some elements for them in fantasy genre hence born bloodborne, Sekire, Elden ring etc
Edit: also money is weapon in this genre...... (The number of bullets and missiles costs)
I know a lot of people enjoy for answer, but i feel like the ps3 games, were kind of built with multyplayer in mind while the others are more catered towards a single player experience, thats what i have heard at least
@@ruikiri V and Verdict Day were built with multiplayer in mind. 4 and For Answer are still pretty normal.

It helps to remap your look controls to the face buttons, and movement to dpad, boost to l1, weapon swap to r1, shoot to r2, and left hand to l2. Makes it feel much more comfortable.

@@petervilla5221 sometimes. :P
This was my first AC game, and I've been in love since.
I recommend you pass some time in the arena, you can get pretty a bunch of money for buy any part what you want(apart of this fight in the arena don´t cost any money so you can try without of problem). secondly press attention for the stats of the parts are VERY IMPORTANT, for example; you legs have stats for:
moving ability(the speed of your movement).
energy drain(this is important because your generator is the provides all energy for your AC, or in other words, more energy consumption = lower recharge the energy meter, or if you exceed the limit of your generator well good things no happens).
weight(Limit the weight of part you can put in your AC example: You purchase a 5000 weight legs you can equip parts which combine weight don´t exceed that limit, and again if you exceed that limit bad things happens)
Armor point(Your LP).
ETC
And the most important thing, the class of the leg, why this is important?, because each type of leg have different properties, Bipedal(standard legs), quad( allows you use back-weapon without stand in one place back weapons are for example: LASER and PULSE cannons, grenade launcher, basically any type of cannon), hover(hover around surface, for example: if you chose a mission with water as predominant surface the hover legs are your best option), tank(for heavy weapons) experiment.
Thank you for the comment, i shall put this information to good use :)
I really hope the announce rereleases or a collection of the older games sometime before or after ac6 comes out
That would actually be sick , specially for pc... and imagine people start making mods for it too :D
But now that we have a release date, it’ll probably solely depend on the sales and general interest in 6… so buy 6!!!!
I really enjoyed that. Thank you for the memories.... and the laughs lol
3 and silent line is a good next two games to hope into. If you want something challenging get into some Last Raven. AC4 and FA will be a fun romp
I have played 3 already (still need to edit that video) and quite liked it, very similiar to 2 but feels better.. after that i might hop straight into 4A
@@ruikiri AND BTW, Last Raven has modernized controls before 4 and onwards so look forward to that i guess.
Welcome to Armored Core. By the time AC6 is released, rest assured the controls are modernized for your convenience but the game is still a FromSoftware game at heart. Enjoy learning to be a pilot of an AC.
If you want a classic Armored Core game with analog support, try Armored Core 3
Armored core 3 only supports 1 analog stick though xb
@@ruikiri they're referring to later AC3 entries, I think it was around Silent Line that they added them.
I personally should note that with emulators though you can "mimic" analog aim too, and I personally with that also in-game remap a lot of the actions to the shoulder buttons with looking to face buttons, since right stick is now controlling those for looking around.
@@pirateFinn i kind of like keeping the controls as they are since this was the way they were played, makes you feel more like your controlling a robot xb also nexus and last raven are the only ones with analog support, i checked :D

tip do not learn while in a mission learn your movement first in the garage use the AC test and practice, practice until you can move like a nimble butterfly, "double tap" or feathering your boosts so you can go further in short you need to keep on tapping boost when flying this way you have small increments of energy recharge
as a twenty years an AC player. Yeah, this seems about right. Welcome to the cradle, Raven.
Thank You :D i hate it here... just kidding xb honestly after playing some old and new games i kind of prefer the ps2 style of Armored Core...
Control Layout:
L1 - Action/Blade
L2 - Boost
R1 - Fire Weapon
R2 - Weapon Swap
X - Look Down
Square - Move Left
Triangle - Look Up
Circle - Move Right
D-Pad Down - Move Back
D-Pad Left - Look Left
D-Pad Up - Move Forward
D-Pad Right - Look Right
L3 - Extension
R3 - Overboost
Hint:
If you want to get Human Plus easy, buy the Machine Gun that has 1000 rounds, sell and buy parts so you have higher hp (the more hp you lose, the more credits it costs to repair). Fail the first mission by wasting your 1000 rounds then dying. You will easily reach almost -25k credits. Do it until you get -50k credits for a cutscene to play which will give you Human Plus but resets you back to the beginning of the game with 0 credits and both pilot and AC name erased.
Human Plus upgrade (the upgrade is how many times you keep going to -50k credit):
1) Radar permanently available regardless head part or back radar equip or not
2) EN Recharge rate improved
3) Booster Consumption rate decreased
4) Cooling improved
5) Blade Wave activated on all laser blade weapons
6) Cannon Restriction Disabled (able to use cannon type weapons while moving regardless of leg type)
7) Missile Cancel/Counter regardless of core part
8) Weight Restriction Disabled (no longer gain overweight penalty)
(Walks over and opens door)
Ruikiri: WTF IS WITH THESE CONTROLS!
Its true the challenge and accessibility are tough , its the type of game that while fun, its not something that everyone is going to spend time to learn it...which is classic fromsoftware i guess xb plus i feel like mech genre is somewhat niche :/
@@ruikiri just so you know 5th gen is the most controller friendly AC game there is but it was the second time AC as a franchise shifted its tone to the detriment of the fanbase
but good luc just so you know Nexus introduced the dual stick support which takes place just after silent line but due to the drastic change on the back end you can not use your silent line save to transfer stuff
Context on why there are mixed oppinion on AC games
AC2: Its basically AC Masters of Arena(Gen 1) but significantly improved, only downside is the game doesnt color code specific stat up and down that are supposed to be positive and negative like how more weight is bad and lower weight is good
AC 3 and Silent Line: Basically 2 Games that are direct after each other, massively improved AC2 especially Silent Line and only downside is Heat system is really unbalanced in 3rd Gen
Nexus and Last Raven: The 2 big changes of the franchise from Gen 3, Nexus introduce Joystick Controls but the game is too short and the balancing is unbearable, Last Raven tried fixing stuff but somehow made the game the *HARDEST* Fromsoftware title ever, not even Dark Souls 2 were this BS
For Answer: Its the easiest story AC game(Except for the 3rd Route Final Mission on Hard) with the most INSANE Online PvP experience, 4th Gen Control in general are great even if the game is too easy
from what i gathered people really like 4 answer but 5 seemed to be a bit underwhelming... for someone interested in gameplay only (at least right now) is 4 worth trying? or could you just skip to 4 answer because its an improved version?
@@ruikiri AC4 is weird, its mostly underwhelming(Not bad but not great) except the story which involves around the Number 1 Arena Pilot Joshua O Brian who is also your Partner funnily enough and thats important for ACFA plot
AC5.... is a mess, its the Dark Souls 2 of the series where Parts and gameplay design is just too weird and somehow 70% of the content went to Multiplayer
Verdict Days the improved version TRIED fixing AC5, while it is actually better than AC5(Even has the most OST in the series including Remixes), 5th Gen is still the weakest title
Best way to fix the default controls are to reconfigure them to support the analog sticks using PCSX2.
